I will talk about what we liked- lassi and daal rice were good. The kid enjoyed it. 4/5. The malai chicken starter was good too. It was not the best but tasted well and liked that it came with some salad. 3.5/4 Now we ordered fish in Goan curry. The curry flavor was okay but it was quite on salty and tangier side. They sent it with chicken instead of fish. 2.5/3. We didn't go inside but saw many people walking in. I wouldn't recommend delivery as they seem to have mess up things. read more

Doing a walking loop around the block and past Varsha was enough to make me circle back. Greeted right at the door by courteous and friendly people. Seated prop promptly and all questions answered. The non-alcoholic ginger lemonade iced tea is very good. You can order extra ginger for it too! No complimentary refills on it sadly... While waiting for the noms (and naan) to arrive, I took in the subtle charm that of Varsha. It's clean, organized, bright from natural light but not overly. Lunch was at first view kitchen of small, but that was my brain vs. stomach. While there could have been more protein in the main dishes, I did leave satisfied to the point I couldn't eat any more. And every bite was delicious. I'm looking forward to visiting Victoria again and thinking Varsha will be another delicious lunch stop. Check them out. Authentic and delicious. read more

Our server Balk (?) was very helpful, we are new to Indian cuisine, with how things would taste and spiciness of the curries. The service was attentive without being a bother. Our food was delicious and the portions were generous. The atmosphere is lively and comfortable. I should have looked through the menu more thoroughly there were several items I would have tried if I had looked longer like coconut chicken wings, etc. I highly recommend this restaurant. I was in Victoria five nights. We found Varsha on the second night as an alternate choice when our first destination was out of multiple dishes. I wound up visiting Varsha four times, which ought to give some idea of my experience. The first night I was still pretty stuffed from Red Fish Blue Fish eight hours earlier. I had the Kachumber salad. The dish was heavy on fresh tomatoes and cukes, delicious onions, and perfect mango. The dressing was out of this world. I would have been delighted, except my son's lamb vindaloo was so amazing that I was jealous. The garlic naan was outstanding as well. The following night I went back for a solo meal. I had the lamb bhunna, which was hands down the most delicious meal I ate during my trip to BC and Alaska. I would order this weekly if I lived in Victoria. I paired it with the coconut naan, which was unbelievable-highly recommended. Our third visit was just to get snacks for take out. I had the butter chicken samosas. These were delicious, but do be advised that the filling is not a mix of traditional samosa and butter chicken, but just the chicken. Very good, but not quite in the same league as some of the other options. Yesterday when we drove in to get the ferry, we all agreed that we needed one last fix. My son ordered the bhunna on my recommendation, and concurred with my opinion. My wife had the fish pakora; I was a little dubious about this, but boy was I wrong- delicious, and it went so well with the included chutney. And on that topic, the tamarind chutney is outstanding of this world, and well worth the upcharge. Finally, I chose the biryani with goat. Once again, I was amazed. It's so sad that my favorite restaurant is a four hour drive, a ferry ride, and a customs checkpoint away. I'll finish by adding that the dining room is attractive and clean, and it smells amazing! I visited late on a slow weeknight, on a very busy weekend at peak hours, and on a pretty busy afternoon when several large families were being served. Each time the service was efficient and polite, and all of the staff were charming and welcoming. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND including a visit to Varsha during your stay in Victoria. read more

Went here with my mom and my husband while we were on a trip from Oregon. It was a very cozy and colorful environment. I can't remember the name of what we ordered, but it came with four vegetarian Indian dishes, naan, and gulab jamun. Highly recommend; a wonderful price. We shared everything and we were happily stuffed.! we substituted plain rosemary garlic naan, and it was absolutely delightful! Tikka masala tasted very different than what I am use to in the US, not as creamy or sweet! But wonderfully delicious and was a medium spicy level. Turns out butter chicken is the equivalent of what I know as chicken tikka masala...creamy tomato sauce curry, which was good. Chicken in both instances was white meat tandoori, not overcooked at all. Curry came with basmati rice. We ordered 2 servings of Naan, 3 large pieces per serving, that was flaky and buttery and chewy. Recommend to eat here. read more

Wonderful food, great service. We got butter chicken, naan, and a vegetarian dish. So nice to have it called butter chicken, rather than having to look up the Indian name for it. Rather than guess about spiciness scale, we just said mild, and the mild was perfect for me and my friend, two middle-aged white ladies. Before they took our order the server asked if we had any food allergies, very nice! We have a lot of Indian restaurants back home, I eat it often, so I have a strong baseline for this cuisine, and this restaurant is top notch! The shared plate was too good of a deal to pass up and truly was enough for 2! The buttered chicken was probably the best I'd ever had! I'm glad the food was so delicious because it definitely made up for the lack of service that was offered. We prefer a minimal interaction when dining out but they really went above with minimal. We didn't get checked on once, empty cocktail and water glasses and when asked for the check, we didn't see the bill for a quiet some time later. Place also lacked proper heating. read more

Canadian Indian fusion? This was soooo delicious! I got the tiger poutine which had regular fries and yam fries, butter chicken, and cheese. The chicken was so good- sometimes certain meat grosses me out but not here- you could tell it was excellent quality and prepared perfectly. There was so much flavor and it was a large portion. I love Indian food and I was ecstatic to see Varsha on the corner of the street near our Airbnb in Victoria. The restaurant was busy on Friday night but we only had to wait a few minutes for our table. The menu contained a lot of unique dishes, like butter chicken poutine, a tandoori chicken quesadilla and tandoori burger, but I had a craving for my usual Indian favorite, paneer tikka masala. While the menu didn't have that exact dish, it did offer a butter chicken, which is a very similar curry sauce, and the waitress said they could swap the chicken for paneer. As the dishes can be made to order for spice preference, I asked for no added spice and was very happy with the dish. My boyfriend ordered malai kofta but forgot to order it spicy. He can handle the heat and prefers his food to be as hot as possible so he asked the waitress for something spicy. She brought him a couple of choices and, instead of trying a little to start, he dumped it all in. Turns out that spice seems to be a bit spicier in Canada than San Diego and he ended up paying the price over the course of the next day for that hasty decision. Be warned that the spice is no joke here! We also ordered the saffron rice and garlic naan to accompany our meal. I'm not sure when I'll return to Victoria again but if I do, I'd definitely return to Varsha and I'll gladly recommend it to anyone who happens to be in town and loves Indian food. read more

Stopped in on a Saturday night for dinner. While waiting to order, the table next to us ominously asked the server to follow up on their order. Our food was equally slow in arriving about an hour later. Somehow people who came in well after us had their food well before us. I had the coconut curry mussels with fries. The plight of those poor mussels haunts me even as I write this. They were over-cooked rubber and the dish was drowned in salt. It was obvious they'd sat because they were getting cold. The fries were overdone and akin to something you'd get at a waterpark concession. My dining partner had the Palak paneer, which she orders all the time and normally finds to be just the right amount of spice. Today however it burned with the fire of a thousand suns, leaving her scorched and unable to finish her meal. We had to conclude someone had spiced her food twice. Her side order of rice had also sat and was tepid at best. On the bright side, the naan was good. The servers were ok, and obviously trying to deal with an overloaded restaurant. read more
