Despite being disappointed with our pies in the last six months, we decided to give Varuni's one more chance, since it is super close. We specifically told the server that we had problems with a soggy middle of pies and we wanted our pie cooked well done, extra crunchy. Their first delivery, we did not get off the tray, it was a soupy mess. My friend explained our request and they made another pie. Even more of a soup soggy mess. Disgusted, I wanted to leave, but my friend got a box. When we got it home, I had my air fryer on 450 and cooked that pie more than 10 minutes before the crust was cook through. I was craving Neapolitan style pizza so I hopped on UberEats as well as consulted Yelp, and started looking for a place. Immediately, I was drawn to a pizza that ordinarily may not have caught my eye, in comparison to others I usually am drawn to like a Margherita or something with mushrooms and/or truffle. It sounded delicious though, and the reviews were promising. I ordered the Bastardo--Mozzarella, San Marzano tomatoes, pepperoni, Nduja (spicy spreadable pork sausage in ragu sauce), Pecorino romano, and basil. For my appetizer, I went with the Arugula Salad--Wild arugula, shaved Pecorino, lemon infused olive oil from Sorrento and fresh lemon juice. For an almost $30 pizza, the portion is very small. It seems like they cut small slices to try to disguise the fact that you're not getting much product. Regardless, it tasted delicious. While not very spicy, it was flavorful and satisfying. I warmed it up in my air fryer, which maintained the integrity of the pizza! Onto the Arugula salad--it is $12. This makes sense with Varuni Napoli's price range, but when you think about the fact that you're essentially just getting a bunch of arugula with shaved cheese, a lemon wedge, and lemon infused olive oil, it seems pricier than what it's worth. To be fair, I must also take into account that I ordered takeout. If I had dined in with an ambiance and service to enjoy, I'm sure I would've seen the price as fair enough. With that said, I would love to try more of Varuni's dishes! Most likely, I will choose to dine in instead to make the cost more worth it. Still after almost 10 years Varuni is hands down our favorite pizza in Atlanta...both Midtown and KSM locations. Our visit this weekend was to the original Midtown location and it was tops. Wasn't too crowded when we got there but it was pretty packed when we departed. We ordered the pepperoni pizza and it arrived hanging over the plate and chock full of perfectly cooked cup pepperonis. One would think they were in Naples when eating this pie. Nothing like US pizzas. Totally fresh and made to order and cooked in a wood oven. It had the great char around the edges. I have such mixed feelings about this location. They have better pizza options here than at their Krog location. Our go to pizzas are the Bastardo and the Maradona and we have dined here as a family over 10 times. The quality of ingredients are excellent. We love the freshness of the dough. Highly recommend ordering and dining in versus doing pickup or delivery. We have noticed that the quality of the pizza suffers if it isn't fresh out of the oven and doesn't reheat in the oven at home well either (compared to other style pizzas). The reason I don't give 5 stars is because there's something strange about the ambiance. My wife who is black doesn't feel comfortable dining in there, the staff have never been rude to us but they have been slightly unfriendly and otherwise completely indifferent to us. Given the frequency we have eaten here and the familiarity, and the fact that we are in Atlanta and they have black staff, we expected some southern hospitality or at least head nods of acknowledgement and have never received it. Our kids enjoy watching them make the pizza before putting them in the oven and we've observed staff interact with other people's kids and give them little tastes of things or make them laugh but we haven't experienced that so unfortunately we have stopped going because it just feels strange and we feel invisible despite how much we enjoy the food itself. I do like how clean the bathrooms are, esp for the kids, and the outdoor seating and general seating arrangements are plentiful and convenient esp for kids. incredible experience!! i planned a work party at the midtown location and it could not have gone smoother or had better vibes. the greatest part aside from the awesome food though was Marco!! he made everything so easy to confirm our reservation and the space was perfect for our event. day of, his service and attention to each of my coworkers was so special, making sure everyone was taken care of and happy with what they were drinking and eating. the semi private room was perfectly set up when we arrived(early), and it was right off of their patio space which is so nice. he and his team were AMAZING!! couldn't recommend more- we will be back! read more

This place was great! After an experience next door we crashed here and was NOT disappointed. We were greeted and reviewed the menu. Ordered the eggplant parmesan, meatballs, pizza and wine. We sat at the bar in front of the wood fire ovens. Got to watch our meals being prepared and had the most pleasant conversation with the pizza makers. The meatballs were FIRE! We got the margherita pizza with added pepperoni, which was fairly pricey ($26 total ), but i would say worth it when split between two people! I tend to be quite picky with the cheese and sauce ratios on pizzas, and i was nervous about not having enough mozzarella to counteract the sauciness, but it was the perfect ratio and they added tons of pepperoni! The white pizza was so delicious the first time, we had to return for more. First, the friendly staff greeted us upon arrival at the restaurant. We placed our order, were given a number, and selected a table overlooking the kitchen's open preparation and cooking areas. Several diners were sitting in the beautiful outdoor dining area. The tables are shaded and offer a great place to enjoy your meal. My better half and I decided to try the eggplant parmigiana plate as our appetizer. Wow, this was the best eggplant parm dish that I have ever had the pleasure of eating. No heavy breading smothering this eggplant but rather the flavor of olive oil and fresh tomato marinara sauce. Fresh mozzarella and basil complete this must try appetizer. This appetizer included two toasted slices of the most airy, light Italian bread. The Chiattona Benni pizza was prepared by the owner and General Manager and was perfectly assembled and cooked. This restaurant's white pizzas are made from scratch using the best ingredients and baked in their wood fired ovens. Their artisan pizzas are a must try. For dessert we shared a cannoli and a cup of gelato. The cannoli is freshly assembled when you place your order. The filling for the cannoli is creamy, rich, absolutely scrumptious and a must try. The gelato we tried was pistachio flavor and was very good. However, the cannoli was the star of the show for dessert. The ricotta was the chef's kiss. With tax and tip, it came out to about $60 for 4 people. We had one slice of pizza leftover! $15 per person isn't bad. These guys really take Covid precautions extremely seriously! I have been to this location several times but this was my first since the pandemic. I was greatly impressed by the way they have adapted to pandemic life. Both the entrance points are manned by staffers who take your temperature upon entering. They had touchfree sanitizers placed strategically around all tables. Glass dividers on larger tables for easy separate to handle many small groups. All staff were masked up appropriately( no dropping, below nose masking). Just impressive! It was a busy Saturday dinner crowd and I didn't see them slip up even once! The food as always was great. We got the margarita and Bianco pizza. I Preferred the latter. We also got mozzarella sticks and eggplant Parmesan. The eggplant Parmesan was the star of the evening. September 12, 2020 On a walk through Piedmont park our hunger pangs began and upon hearing the words Pizza we looked for the closest pie shop and voila, just a few more steps ahead, we arrived at Varuni Napoli! This is a certified Napolitano pizzaria. The wood fired stoves are authentic, from Naples and so is the flower which the pizza is made. We ordered there mozzarella sticks, Paco pizza, and chocolate chip cannoli for the starter, main and dessert. The sticks came with a hot marinara dipping sauce and were delicious. The pizza had beautiful leoparding on the dough which was nice and spongy. The cannoli was fluffy and creamy with a good crunchy cookie. We enjoyed the pizza and atmosphere with Blue Eyes singing in the background. Of course the open kitchen is fantastic too. Really helps to see how the pies are put together. Social distancing was also well enforced here, our temperature checked at the door, which provided some measure of comfort. Definitely would come again. read more

One of the best pizzas I've had outside NYC! I always love thin crust and tend to opt for cheese or margherita, but I heard wonderful reviews about the Bastardo here. It didn't disappoint with the salty cupped pepperoni and the star was the unique Nduja sauce with its spicy pork-y flavor. Because of all the toppings and how thin the dough is (I could see my whole hand through the pizza!), this pizza was more flimsy than I expected but I wouldn't sacrifice anything to change that one aspect. There's also a side area with a lot of extras like pickled red chiles, spicy oil, olive oil, fresh garlic, and fresh parm). Cool pizzeria tucked behind Piedmont Park next to Hobnobs pub. Pizzas and beverage orders are placed at the register and food is brought out. Prices are on the higher side, but well worth it. We kicked the meal off with arrancini and red sauce- perfectly crisped with some basil on the side. For dinner I had Peroni and Margherita pizza. My mom went with a red wine and a mushroom and truffle oil pizza. Perfectly cooked and all drinks come out ice cold. We sat outside on the back deck, well lit with string lighting and bubbly water sounds coming from the koi pond directly below our lounge area. The restaurant plays good music all night Over the outside speakers.
