Cool pizzeria tucked behind Piedmont Park next to Hobnobs pub. Pizzas and beverage orders are placed at the register and food is brought out. Prices are on the higher side, but well worth it. We kicked the meal off with arrancini and red sauce- perfectly crisped with some basil on the side. For dinner I had Peroni and Margherita pizza. My mom went with a red wine and a mushroom and truffle oil pizza. Perfectly cooked and all drinks come out ice cold. We sat outside on the back deck, well lit with string lighting and bubbly water sounds coming from the koi pond directly below our lounge area. Varuni Napoli's pizza is DOUGHpe! Came by one Saturday evening. We valet parked next to the building, in the lot between Varuni and Hobnob. The place was packed. It's a counter service restaurant, and they bring your order to you. You also seat yourself. There was a line at the counter to order. We were lucky enough to find a table for our group of 4. We shared a long table with other customers. The space is open and well lit. The open kitchen exposes the two beautiful wood burning ovens facing the bar. There's plenty of seating indoor and some out, though I didn't get a chance to look at it. We had just left an event that served food less than 2 hours before arriving, so we weren't that hungry but we wanted pizza. We ordered a Spacca Napoli $22. Service was fast and friendly. Within minutes, our pizza was at our table. The Spacca Napoli came with fresh Buffalo mozzarella, Taleggio cheese, oak roasted mushrooms, caramelized onions, Pecorino Romano basil, truffle salt, and black truffle oil. It was one of their vegetarian options, and it was excellent! Looks simple, yet full of flavor. For a group that wasn't "that hungry," we sure devoured that pizza quickly. I could have eaten a lot more. According to their website, their dough is made fresh daily with only four ingredients: water, sea salt, yeast, and 00 flour. The dough is probably one of my favorites, if not my favorite part of the entire pizza. The music got significantly louder towards the end of our meal, which was our cue to leave. The restaurant was so busy that people's orders were ready before they could even find a seat. One group had to send their pizza back because they didn't have a table yet. I've been a frequent customer so I know Varuni Napoli is good. My last experience unfortunately wasn't. The pizza came to our table extremely cold and it seemed like it had been sitting for a while. I think the worst was that the caesar salad had anchovies. I didn't look at the carefully (my fault) when ordering and I wish they would've asked since anchovies is an ingredient that is either loved or hated. We removed the anchovies when eating it, but the salad still tasted fishy.. I love this place, so I'll probably visit again but it was overall a disappointing dinner. read more

We live close by and decided to give it a try. We ordered one of their pizzas, a calzone and a salad to share. To start, the Caesar dressing tastes like mayonnaise. No flavor at all. A $15 little Ceasar salad and we had to eat it with dressing from home. The pizza was ok but the toppings were not over the whole thing at all. Mostly on 1/3. There were burnt parts in the bottom that was the overwhelming taste. It's one of their speciality pizzas with veggies and sausage and it didn't taste good at all. The calzone was just awful. It tasted like it had something that went bad inside of it. It was thin and mostly empty. I paid $65 for a meal that was really not eatable. read more

This is my all time favorite pizza place in ATL! My favorite (and only thing I ever order) is the the margherita pizza. The fresh tomato sauce, búfalo cheese, fresh dough and wood fire oven are reminiscent of my time in Italy. It's the only pizza place I'll order from! Highly recommend! PS. I can smash a whole pizza by myself but in effort to feel like I'm over paying ($22 min) I tend to eat 4-5 slices and save the rest for the next day. Varuni Napoli has been on my list for years, so I was excited to stop in for a laid-back meal after drinks on Valentine's Day. Although the fast-casual setup of the restaurant might make you think that this is a run of the mill pizzeria, the quality of the food is excellent, making it one of my new go-to's in the neighborhood for a quick bite. After ordering at the counter and finding a seat on the back patio, we settled in to our delicious and lemony arugula salad and baked eggplant parm starter, smothered in a fresh and bright tomato sauce. Next, came the main event- the most delicious pizza bianca, with the best chewy crust and dollops of fresh, creamy ricotta. We ended our meal with the most delicious pistachio cake- one of the best desserts I have had in a while. It's mind blowing incredible. We have been coming to Varuni Napoli for two years now, and every single time they are consistent. Now, YOU HAVE TO EAT IT THERE. Delivery and To-Go, NO BUENO. It looses its consistency and its just not the same than when it's fresh out of the oven. They have a variety of craft beers, red and white wines and cocktails. The line was huge! When I got in front of the guy to order he was so rude and didn't give me any attention at all. Maybe he's very rich and doesn't give a fxck to customers like me. We ordered 2 pizzas + Eggplant Parmesan. Pizzas 7/10 and Eggplant 10/10 was phenomenal,sauce was incredibly delightful. Ambience was super noise as music too. I'll never comeback to dine in but I'll order pizza's to go so next time I can give a better rate! One thing I'm sure: I DON'T WANNA SEE THE GUY AT THE REGISTER AGAIN! A great pizza stop in Midtown for artisanal pies! Because of the higher price point, I wouldn't say this is an everyday meal, but definitely one I would enjoy again from time to time. I ordered the Bastardo and my roommate got the classic Margherita and both really hit the spot. The restaurant is self service. You order at the counter and find a spot yourself, which I don't mind at all. (Very similar to Antico's). I was very impressed with the quality of the pies and the ingredients. OMG. THIS is pizza. The restaurant's owner - Chef Luca Varuni - is from Italy and brought his pizza ovens from Italy. And you can tell. You know it's good pizza when the crust is as delicious as everything on it. And that's what the pizza at Varuni Napoli is like. I arrived on a Friday night (around 7:30 pm), and it was crowded but not crazy crowded. I grabbed a seat at the bar, because I was eating solo. I ordered a glass of wine (a Montepulciano they had for $7/glass). The service at the bar was excellent, and I even ended up chatting with the woman sitting next to me at the bar who eats at Varuni all the time. I ordered the Oro Bianco (fresh buffalo mozzarella, buffalo ricotta, Taleggio cheese, pancetta, pecorino romano, basil, and black pepper - I asked for it without the truffle oil - because if it's not real truffle, I don't want it - that stuff is so pungent!). Without the truffle oil on top, this pizza was one of the best I've had in years. The crust was to die for - light and fluffy and full of air pockets. The cheeses on the pizza were amazing, and they did not skimp on the pancetta. I'm more of a white pizza girl myself, and this one was great. Their desserts looked amazing, but I couldn't even finish my wonderful pizza. If I lived in Atlanta, this would be a regular spot for me. I read the reviews and Had great expectations ... food was delivered under 45 minutes. Unfortunately it was cold pizza and uncooked. Towards the crust I could not even eat it as it was raw. The pizza was so cold and not even luke warm, you can't blame it on the travel time. Also asked for seasoning like oregano, garlic, hot chili pepper and not even a napkin was delivered. Even before my pizza addiction, I had been wanting to try Varuni Napoli, while trying to find an alternative to Antico's (not because I've gotten tired of them, but just to switch things up every now and then). While they don't accept reservations, I had 18 people coming to my birthday dinner so I called a couple weeks in advance, since thanks to a fellow Yelper's review, there is a back room that can be reserved. It can be a little awkward for other diners as they walk through the room to get to the bathroom, but I was able to ignore them and enjoy the meal. Parking is easy - we all parked in the large shared parking lot in the back. I ordered my personal pizza and gleefully shared wine and pizza with the friends around me. I honestly cannot remember the pizza I ordered, and looking back at the pictures of my pizza and the menu, I can't tell because they are all very similar. Everything was tasty, though, and went well with the bottle of Montepulciano my friend ordered for a few of us to share. There was a mixup with the check and turned out we were charged a little extra for a pizza we didn't order. The restaurant apologized and provided a small gift card in return. So now I guess I'll have to come back and try another pizza again - maybe I'll be able to verify which pizza I liked best. Overall, I feel like I still prefer Antico's, but Varuni Napoli is nice for when you want a small portion or to try multiple pizzas at a time. Lucca and the team do such a fantastic job. They always great you with smiles! We split a Caesar salad and built our own pizza with red sauce, pepperoni cups, mushrooms and caramelized onions. The food was superb. Hands down there is no better pizza in the state of Georgia (in my opinion). Additionally, they run a tight ship. The restaurant and bathrooms are pristine- so clean. The style of the restaurant is order at the counter, get a number and then they bring the pizza out to whatever table you sit at. I ordered the pizza with mushrooms, onions, peppers and sausage i believe. The pizza was incredibly good. So much flavor and all the flavors mixed well together. Everyone loved their pizza as well. The atmosphere of the restaurant is great & laid back. There are long tables inside & it's an open kitchen concept. After a few subpar Neopolitan experiences in the city, Varuni Napoli finally wowed me and represents my current favorite pizzeria in Atlanta. My fiance does not even like pizza and she routinely craves Varuni. This pizzeria's roots stem from nearby stalwart Antico, and comparisons subsequently seem appropriate. I do find the exemplary, perfectly chewy crusts at Antico better than the still great but thinner, slightly floppier bases here. That said, the topping selections at Varuni wins hands down. I, overall, find the topping combinations here to possess more inspiration and creativity than the good but more traditional leaning Antico. My favorite pizza, the porecca picante, offers spicy, sauce like nduja sausage paired with juicy cherry tomatoes and piquant peppers with a stellar tomato sauce that makes for a zesty, rich, and bright bite. Other flavor combinations I've dug include the smoky/fresh mamma and the pesto inflected filetto. If none of the menu choices entice you, Varuni offers total customization of pies with a wife variety of toppings. Additionally, this place offers a more complete dining experience with a tight selection of appetizers and salads. My one gripe with Varuni stems from the pie sizes. The pies cost $20ish bucks and are too much food for one person but not quite enough food for two hungry eaters. My fiance, fortunately, tends not to eat too much so one pie suffices for us, but I wish that the sizes resembled Antico's (i.e one pie plenty for two). Nonetheless, the craveable flavor combinations and solid, puffy crusts keep my fiance and I returning for our favorite pies in the city. read more

First off, am a big fan of this place and have eaten here many times since the Corona Virus began in an effort to support them. Several times we were the only ones in the restaurant (when it was still open) Will continue to support them and Hope this review helps others negotiate the 2 hour waiting times in order to support this business. Want them to do well. HEADS UP!!! This review is here to help you budget your time when you order. When you order online, the time they Tell you it will be ready is nowhere close! The couple in front of us waited an hour and a half after their online pick up time before saying anything. Only after they spoke up did the restaurant put their pizza in the oven. They waited close to two hours. We ordered our pizza online at 7:39; we were told it would be ready at 7:54. Figuring the couple before us was just an unlucky one off, we waited til precisely 8:54 before saying anything. They did not put our order in until 8:56:22. (Please see time on receipt in photo.) Online promised time was 7:54, actual pick up time was 9:23. So if you order online you still have to arrive and reorder before they will begin. Make sure you go directly to the window and speak to them otherwise they will not even start your order. It did appear that those phoning in their orders did not have to wait. Probably better not using ordering services and calling in your order directly. Hard to say since there was so much confusion. It is only fair to say that during normal times we never have to wait. But these are unique times, so please continue to support this restaurant by phoning in all your orders. Important point during this Corona Virus time is that due to everyone's frustration, and only one small window to serve from, absolutely no social distancing is being practiced here. So how perfect is this, pizza and beer? We had a guys night and were up at Orpheus Brewery, and my buddy Mark pinned this place to go after drinking beer. It's a short walk from Orpheus, utilizing part of the Belt Line and situated right off Monroe near Piedmont. You walk in and wait in line to order, and then grab a table. They give you a number. My buddy had planned a table for all of us. It's authentic Italian pizza. Reminded me of Antico at first (which I didn't like and will not go back to) but had the same wood-fire ovens as Campania (a place my honey and I love) in Alpharetta. I was hopeful it would be good. They had many types of beer here (Tropacalia Creature Comfort!). It's very modern here, and I liked the ambiance. We had about 10 guys so the table wasn't great for everyone talking but I loved they had water pitchers and plates ready for us. Noise level was moderate. I ordered the margharita pizza, and had to grab a piece of tiramisu from their dessert case. Authentic Italian doesn't give you some options you'd typically want (thick crust, pineapple, jalapeño) so you have some limitations. I was worried some, bc my son didn't like the margharita pizza from Antico before, and I didn't either. The tiramisu was delicious! Fresh, creamy and a great taste. I loved it. The pizza took less than 8 minutes to come. I was hopeful after the tiramisu and I wasn't let down. It was excellent! Semi charred bottom, lots of cheese/basil and sauce. It was perfect. I could have eaten all 8 slices but needed to save some for my son. My only star knock was pricing. $18 for the pizza. It was certainly great but I just hate paying that much. Varuni Napoli is a Neapolitan pizza restaurant that opened April 2014 in the Morningside-Lenox Park neighborhood, just east of Midtown. There are many great Neapolitan pizza places in the Atlanta area (e.g. Antico, Double Zero, Ammazza, Sapori di Napoli, Campania) and Varuni is right up there with them. The business is named after chef and co-owner, Luca Varuni, who is originally from Naples and has extensive experience in the industry. He was one of the top pizzaiolos at Antico. Varuni Napoli is located in the Clear Creek shopping center near the corner of Monroe and Piedmont. Other restaurants in this shopping center include Top Spice and Ru San's. Varuni has two entrances: the main storefront entrance on Monroe and a back patio entrance connected to the parking lot. The lot is accessible from both Monroe and Piedmont, but it's easier to get into from Piedmont. The restaurant has a very nice, modern build-out. It's spacious and open. The main dining area, wine bar, and kitchen are in a single congruous space. Seating primarily consists of long communal tables. The pizza bar can seat over a dozen customers. It faces the counter where chef Varuni and his pizzaiolos prepare each pizza. Installed behind them are two imported, wood-burning, 900-degree, tiled, Stefano Ferrara ovens. There's a large, semi-private table along with lounge-style seats in a back room. This room is connected to the elevated and enclosed outside deck. The ordering style is fast casual, where you order and pay upfront, take a number, and wait for your pizza(s). Reservations aren't typically accepted, but exceptions can be made for exceptionally large groups. The menu consists of 12+ pizzas (red and white), a small selection of calzones and salads, fresh mozzarella, and Italian street food. In addition, there's a display case next to the cash register containing various cured meats (e.g. soppressata, capicola, pancetta), other pizza ingredients (e.g. black and green olives), bottled drinks, and desserts for sale. As is standard at other Neapolitan pizza places in Atlanta, expect to spend roughly $20 per pizza. I think one pizza for every two people is a good way to go. My favorite dish here is actually not one of the pizzas, but the Reginella calzone. It's surprisingly phenomenal. You must order one. The Reginella is fried, not baked. The gently fried dough is magical. It's supremely tasty yet light and not too oily. The melty combination of fiordilatte mozzarella (made from cow's milk), buffalo ricotta, and Pecorino Romano (made from sheep's milk) is outstanding. Did I mention you must order one? Varuni's arancini are some of the best I've tried. His rice balls are big and filling as well as quite flavorful. The panzerotti aren't bad either, highlighted by the delicious Pecorino Romano cheese. Freshly made. Of all the pizzas I've tried so far, my favorite is the Oro Bianco white pizza. I'm a sucker for mozzarella and ricotta di bufala and this pizza has both. On top of that, there's mildly flavored Taleggio cheese, savory pieces of pancetta (Italian bacon), Pecorino Romano cheese, and truffle oil. It's simply excellent. Of the red pizzas, my favorite is the basic Margherita. It's simple yet gratifying. The Pako and Amore Mio are both good. The Pako is comparable to Antico's San Gennaro with its sausage and peppers. The subtly tangy artichokes and the mouthwatering soppressata (salami) are the highlights of the Amore Mio. When it comes to red pizzas, I think Antico still holds the edge for best in Atlanta due to taste and consistency. The cannoli are fantastic and some of the best I've tried (if not, the best). The cream filling is luscious and euphoric. Service is A-OK. The food is served in a reasonable amount of time. Varuni gets the five-star bump-up due to the Reginella fried calzone. read more
