This place is just kinda gross. In fact I have proof it's gross, from time to time I am forced to use the locker room before heading to work for the day, I kid you not, I develop ring worm on the bottom of my feet every time I use the shower EVEN THOUGH I WEAR SHOWER SANDALS. Have they ever cleaned the locker rooms? Also, the shower water is always cold. The machines are old and beat up. I've never seen anyone wipe them down after using them. many of them are non functional. There is usually a group of bros that just chills on the 3 bench press machines talking, oblivious to the fact there are others at the gym that would like to use the bench press. There is a serious shortage of free weights, there are never any 10 or 5 pound weights to be found. On top of all the crappyness I constantly get random charges on my debit card from these guys, then to get them off you have to call some number that puts you through to a call center. But for like $10 a month I guess this is what I deserve so I guess it gets at least 2 stars. read more

Greedy, dirty, careless, and irresponsible are the words that come to mind when I think of Vasa now. Gyms are crowded, little cleaning is being done, and more often than not machines are broken. Been a member for 5+ years (including when it was Gold's) and I'm officially fed up. Working out in your backyard with no equipment is better than going here. Also, good luck cancelling the membership because they've made it impossible to view your account on the app or online and I sat on hold for 15+ minutes to have the line hang up because they'll "call me back." Of course, I have not gotten a call back. Glad I paid them $100 to not use their facilities and so they can play a role in rising our coronavirus case count. read more

Let's talk about how VASA likes to lie, cheat and steal from it's customers. I decided to re-join the gym this past July to help my postnatal depression. I went in on the Sunday after independence day and joined up. The pushy rep tried to convince me to get the $20/mo membership, but I stood my ground and went for the $10. He asked if I ever considered personal training. I told him I had had VERY BAD experiences in the past, and even though I'd love 1-on-1 training, I was too worried about being stuck in a contract with a terrible trainer. He swore that vasa is different. Only the best trainers. And I could do 1-on-1 training for 30 minutes or "small group training" for an hour! Plus access to extra classes! Even better, fourth of July special savings were still in effect. He pushed me to sign up now, and when I wanted to speak to my husband first, he kept pushing me to sign up and talk to my husband later. He even told me that if I had a bad experience, it was easy enough to quit. He also said that if I didn't show up to train, my trainer didn't get paid! So there was incentive for the trainers to make sure I loved it. Feeling pressured but excited I signed up. I show up for my first session. Its with the head trainer, and is supposed to last an hour. Even though I'm on time, I'm told to sit and wait. Fifteen minutes late, I'm finally pulled in to the session, which is being shared with another newbie. We are put through a few exercises, lasting a total of 15 minutes, and that's it. We are brought to the desk and each told who our respective trainers will be. Appointments are booked, and I am wondering if I just paid $40 for my half of a 15 minute session. The day of my appointment rolls around, and I show up, eager to work out. Once again I've paid for childcare. I have already met my trainer, so I walk around the gym looking for her. Our session should have started ten minutes ago, so I head to the front desk to ask for her. A few minutes later, I'm directed to a sales rep who says they have no record of my appointment. The head trainer had booked the next two appointments at our first session, but apparently there was no record. The sales rep suggests we do a body fat analysis on his computer so I can see a representation of what my body will look like after the six months. I halfheartedly agree, and he asks my height, weight, etc. Then he asks my body fat. As if I know. When I tell him I have no idea, he urges me to guess. He plays with the dial on the computer and tells me to stop him when I think the models body matches mine. I am seriously incredulous. I tell him I just want to train, and he tells me he's putting me into a small group training with a different trainer in a week. I tell him I really want one on one training, but he says to try the group first. He's sure I'll love the small group. "Just you and one or two other ladies," he says. "It's so supportive. And I'm going to make sure you get a free t-shirt for your trouble." Side note - this never happens. Once again, a week later (by which point I've already been charged twice on my credit card...) I show up for training. The "small group" is actually six women, with another two that didn't show. My trainer is actually the assistant head trainer, and she's lovely and kind. The group is nice, but I still signed up for one on one training, and I would really prefer that. The next week, I show up and again it's a large group of ladies. Much of the session is spent waiting for equipment to open up because there are at least three other trainers teaching their groups in the 150 sq ft training cage. I have to miss the next week due to a family event, so I go back and forth with my trainer trying to book a one on one session. She can't fit me in, and eventually I just have to agree that I won't be training that week. The day before my next session, I get a text from my trainer. She's accepted a job at another location, and all training is cancelled and I have to find a new trainer. At this point I'm so pissed off. I've been paying for 6 weeks so far and have had only two sessions, both with a group, and I am not getting what I want or need. My depression is much worse. I try to book a one on one session, but once again I'm told there are none available for me. I finally make the decision that I want to be released from my contract. It takes a week to get ahold of the head office, and it boils down to this: not only am I not allowed out of my contract, but my contract does not guarantee one on one training at all. And my unused training sessions also expire after two weeks. So now it is mid-September. I have paid over $400 in training fees, on top of my gym membership fees, and I will continue to be charged through the end of December even though I have no desire to return to this deceitful gym ever again. Buyer beware. They will happily take your money, lie to you and not ever try to make things right. read more

This gym is really large and everything is very clean. I have been working out here for a couple of months. I started with the Studio Red plan with the group workouts - it's really nice classes, similar to crossfit and the bikes in the spin classes are nice. I wasn't really going to enough of them though to justify paying $30 more per month so I dropped down to a regular membership with regular classes. There's plenty of regular classes scheduled. I love doing cardio in the cinema room, it's nice and dark and you get to watch a movie while working out. There's plenty of work out machines, there's a big turf area for stretching out. There's a dead lift area, a cage area, free weight room, and a lady vasa area for women only. read more

This gym sucks. 24 hours transferred my membership. There are broken machines that interrupt my workout every time. I've kept track and the most recent broken machine took more than 30 days to repair. The bathrooms are dirty and the toilet seats come off. The lockers are filthy. I hate this gym. read more

This is my home gym! I first started in the gym a year ago with a Vasa trainer Matt and he is amazing! He supported me through the workouts when I felt like dying. He gave me information that has lasted through my fitness journey. Now I do the gym on my own and it's great! The main gym is updated and clean. It does get busy and sometimes equptment isn't available. The lady vasa gym is great too! I wish they would have more room in there and it was bigger with machines that told the weight and not a number (1,2,3,4). The locker room is always clean when I visit with plenty of lockers! The sauna is hot and relaxing! I also do wish this would be a vasa with the hydro massage! read more

For working graveyard shift it's not that useful for me as Gold's Gym was. Gold's realized people work all hours of the day. What is up with the short hours? I transferred to this location just recently. I had no problem transferring and it was my first transfer so it was completely free. I was greeted and the employees made sure to welcome me to this location and show me around. It is much larger than the brickyard location - but equally as clean and nice. It wasn't busy and I didn't have to fight for any equipment. I'm excited to be at this location. I can't see why anyone has a problem with it. read more

I have been a member for years, and didn't always think the service or facilities were the best, but I have had some really great service here in the last 9 months, and there have been many improvements made to to the facilities, too. For example, the other day I had a question about my kidcare account, and they took my info and checked on it. I didn't ask for a call back or anything, but Mindy called back the next day and left me a message to tell me the the issue had been resolved. The kidcare ladies are all super nice as well. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because the pool, steam room, and showers are hit and miss with cleanliness, and this the the area I use most. read more

Out of nearly 25 treadmills, only 4-6 work properly. And the members know this, so there is always people waiting to use thefew good treadmills. Vasa does not appear to have any desire to maintain or fix the treadmills, or get new treadmilss. One treadmill has had an "out of order" sign for going on 3 months. read more

I love this VASA location! The staff are friendly and helpful. I appreciate the variety of options offered here, for example having a steam room AND a sauna, plus a hot tub conveniently located in the middle of those two things. They have top-notch fitness and team training classes. All their trainers are genuine and dedicated to what they do, and always willing to help and answer any questions. They seem to fix any broken machines rather quickly, and the equipment is generally in good condition. They have a large turf area for stretching or using foam rollers. Their cardio cinema is a great option. Overall, I've only had wonderful experiences at VASA and this location has something for everyone. read more

I've have bin coming here for 5 months so far and I really like it. The staff is very nice a professional always have a smile on there face. The gym is very nice cleaner than the vasa in brickyard and bigger too lots of space to do your workout. Nice facility, generally everything is kept clean and you can't go wrong with how cheap it is. However, there is one thing I don't understand about the layout of this gym. The weight room could be way, WAY larger. There's dozens of machines that sit empty all day in the main room but the weight room, the room that is used by the most people is the smallest. By far. It is literally jam packed almost all day. If you use 15 or 20 pound dumbbell expect to wait around as I usually have to wait 10-20 minutes for them to free up. I wouldn't mention this problem if it didn't happen almost every time unless I go after 8 PM or very early in the AM. That's my only problem with this place, everything else is perfectly fine. Plus the employees are always very nice and helpful, and I never feel pressure to sign up for additional trainers or programs which is great. read more

Update: There have been drastic changes at this and I am told all Vasa locations. It's acually become quite filthy and equipment is broken down for long periods without being fixed and judging from the ridiculously high turnover rate, it looks like the employees are taking the blame for poor corporate decisions. Sometime, roughly a year ago, Vasa started a cheaper, $9.99 monthly "limited membership" and with those more affordable memberships came a LOT of filth and trash; The showers and locker room nearly always have discarded soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, q-tips, shapoo, lotion containers, etc. and it's unusual for the locker-room benches not to have protein powder and drinks spilled on them. After a shower, when you go to put on clean socks you will find the souls of your feet covered with a surprisingly thick layer of dark crud. The same is true with the Steamroom and Sauna & spa / pool area; they now almost always reek of people who haven't showered in a day or five. If I ever find myself alone in the steamroom I take the opportunity to thoroughly hose it down and cick oyt the wads of stinking, soaked paper towels and empty water bottles, which makes all the difference in the world, but it's not my job. Below you'll find my glowing review of facility and of my fantastic first trainer there, Mr. Hunter Manwill. Hunter was promoted to a group training position, which simply doesn't work with my permanent personal injuries and PTSD. My second, also fantastic and current trainer is Ramiro Aguirre who left Vasa to train in a private gym with older, but a tousand times cleaner equipment. ___________________________________________________ From 11/3/2015: I love this place! It's incredibly clean for such a busy gym. The staff have always been courteous, professional and very helpful which, in my experience, is unheard of in comercial gyms. Usually all gym employees care about is getting your money, but once you've signed that contract forget about customer service. Not at Vasa on Van Winkle, there are almost always personal trainers working with clients, but they are usually able to answer quick questions and if they are in the middle of something more intensive there are staff behind the counter and management in cubicles who all seem eager to help with questions or concerns. I've been working with Hunter Manwill, a personal trainer here and must say that he's been a real life saver. Went to this gym as a buddy on a friend's pass. It took about ten minutes to get in after getting too much information about me. In all, the facilities SEEM really nice and new but almost every machine I went on or went to use was out of order or on its last legs. Nothing seemed truly usable there. There also was a very "exclusive" vibe to this club. Essentially you had to be someone who was trying to win a competition too even work out there. If you weren't already muscular or fit, 99% of everyone else who was there just gave you dirty looks. Not a place I would want to return to. To go back to when they took down most of my information, they had sent me a text to see how my visit was. Just a way to get more people to sign up. Honestly, it felt like an invasion of privacy. Got kicked off the basketball court by a bunch of dudes who ran us off. Asked the manager Nate to help out and all he said was "I can't tell them not to play full court." Do not do business with VASA - they have horrible service. Their gyms are always packed and they have shady business practices. I signed up myself and my wife for their MONTH to MONTH gym membership, after 2 months I was done. I called their member services # @ 801-426-8644 and also emailed reception@vasafitness.com, I also took a letter into the WEST JORDAN Vasa requesting my membership be canceled. They're trying to collect over $200 threating to put it on my credit file and continue collection efforts. I have given proof of my cancelation and they say they have no record of it. Pros: Large facility, lots of equipment, lap pool, racketball, lots of cardio equipment. Virtually no waiting for a machine. Cons: No one seems to feel they need to retail the plates off the machines. They lift them just leave it. Also I seem to be the only one that wipes down the machines after use. I've never been to a gym where people just wantonly leave weights laying on the floor and on the machines with sweat dripping off the seats. To add to that, the wet towelette dispensers are few and far between. There is also no rule on working out with a towel like most gyms. Bathrooms could be cleaned more often also. In general, people who workout here seem to be too lazy to clean up after themselves and the management don't enforce any rules if they exist at all. But membership cost is cheap. read more

I have been coming to this gym for about a month. I wanted to give it a few weeks before I reviewed. I signed up for the initial $20/month that includes all locations and classes, etc and I also signed up for training with Matt for about $120/month because I need an accountability person for sure. Parking is always available. I haven't had to wait for a machine as of yet and all of the machines that I have wanted to use have been available. I really like the cardio and turf areas. I also love the sauna; it's really nice and usually not crowded. There's more than enough equipment barring you going at "peak times" which I haven't been going between 6-8am or 5-7pm so i'm not sure how it is then. So far, i'm a fan. There's always something to watch-not TV wise, but people wise. Great people watching here especially people playing racquetball! read more

VASA memberships can't be cancelled easily. Especially if you co-sign for a family member. If you are paying for a membership for a family member, you cannot cancel the membership when family member stops using the account and moves away. read more

The Kaysville VASA is not well maintained. If you take my money then you need to reserve some of it for MAINTENANCE! Hello VASA?? The mens locker is disgusting. The showers remain broken after several weeks and the grout is brown. The lockers are dirty and the finish of the floor is coming up. This is unacceptable. Additionally several of the machines are not functioning smoothly. I have reported the issues but nothing is ever addressed. read more

Okay - I can't say much for the whole gym, but I can talk about the spin classes. Specifically Lisa, Jill, and Ray's classes. They are the best instructors and make for a fantastic ride. I go to this gym almost exclusively for them. Lisa and Jill also teach great step classes too. The change to Studio Cycle with the Vasa belts has really upped the cycle game here. read more

Not the best gym in the world but enough to get by I guess. They charge a new member fee on top of your monthly fee to start. After a year they then charge you $75 to keep your membership on top of the monthly fee. Starting to sound a lot like them going back to their Golds Gym BS again. Now to the facilities. Their room with free weights and the CrossFit areas are awesome with lots to do and the artificial turf makes for good comfort while doing aerobic and strength exercises. I didn't do much on the machines but they seemed nice. The stationary bikes and treadmills were a little bit nasty from other people leaving their garbage or spilt shakes inside the cupholders. The basketball court was a nice break from the normal exercises and they have basketballs you can use. The locker rooms are pretty nasty due to other members just being gross in general but this place could be cleaned up a lot better. Let's just say I would never ever catch myself walking barefoot in there. Lastly, be fore warned about cancellation, they want it a month in advance and will still charge you a $20 cancellation fee. read more

I signed up in May for a gym membership. I was interested in a personal trainer but was unsure if I wanted to do it. The sales rep told me I could start out at 2x a week but could change within my contract period to 1x a week. I was very clear that I did not want to do 2x for 6 months due to medical bills coming up at the end of the year. When it came time to go to 1x after three months, corporate said I couldn't. The sales rep was helpful in resolving that issue, but resulted in another issue of me UNKNOWINGLY signing another six month contract. Now that I want to cancel upon completion of my original six month contract, I get the response of sorry you have three more months, or you can pay us $100 to transfer to someone else that I would have to find to take over the new contract I did not agree to. read more

Are there negative stars? It's important to note that I am a parent whose daughter wanted membership & the process was completed over the phone. I specifically asked about ALL fees, including when the charges would occur, up front. All of the fees were in fact NOT stated at the time of signing. Though I'm sure the "rate guarantee fee" is conveniently buried in tiny print somewhere, this was NEVER mentioned, despite asking. The worst part of this, is the continued blaming of the consumer for these blatantly obvious dishonest business practices. What do timeshare salespersons and gym sales persons have in common? WAY too much to feel comfortable. I went in today to sign three people up for your premium plan. Simply put you don't want my money. Was willing to prepay for 3 people but apparently the steroids have shrunken the brains of management whereby they no longer accept prepayments. When you look at all of the monthly billing problems/fees/mistakes/inability to "cancel" etc. incurred by others I don't want to be a victim of the same unethical practices. I also have had cards stolen and auto-pays rejected so i really dont like doing that. So congrats. No $800 in income today for Vasa and most likely none in the future either. As an aside in November I called to see if there were any Black Friday promotions. Couldn't get a straight answer from anyone. Person on phone asked for my phone number. I told them I didn't want to give any of that info until I signed a contract. Instead they took my caller id and had already texted me before I could even hang up width the dodgy sales people. Privacy -violated. Creepy stalker vibe with no boundaries also check. ONLY reason I considered Vasa at all after all of this was because my daughter has friends already as members. I joined a couple of weeks ago. I regret it. This place is so, so crowded, I can't ever get on the machines I want. The treadmill I used last time was rattling and sounded like it was going to crash apart every time I tried to go over 4. Wanted to switch, but no others were open. Tonight I tried another treadmill and it did the same thing the entire 15 minutes I ran on it. Tried the free weights area, and lasted about 20 minutes because it was so crowded. There were hardly any weights available, the benches were filthy, and the entire gym smelled terrible. I've been in hotel gyms where I got a better workout. read more
