It's like stepping into your very own French cafe but in Hawaii. Located in the beginning part of Waikiki tucked into a side road, you can park in one of the many lots around the area. The cafe itself is small with 5 tables inside and 5 tables outside, but has high ceilings and well lit. I was instantly drawn to the croissants at the front counter. They have a variety of flavors such as chocolate, pistachio, almond and oatmeal, and you can tell they're all well made. The croissants are big (worth the price) and you can see all of the different layers and perfect lamination. They have a variety of coffee options, and even more tea options to choose from. We ordered the Double Pistachio Twice Baked Croissant, Iced Hawaiian Latte and Iced Vavin Caramel Latte with Oat milk. The croissant was perfectly crispy and golden brown on the outside and light and buttery on the inside. The pistachio topping was slightly crunchy and not overly sweet. The portion was bigger than I thought and we were able to split it between two people. The coffee is on the sweeter side, I prefer more coffee. Next time I'll order it with another shot of espresso.
While in Waikiki on O'ahu, I had the most divine pastries I could have expected at Vavin Dessert Bar. This was a bougie pastry shop, sure, but heck if I didn't go back every morning while on the island to try a different one. While there, I had their Lava Lava Almond Croissant which was a twice baked almond croissant that was perfectly flaky with a creamy frangipane in the middle. The second item I had was the Pistachio Twice Baked Croissant. Imagine if a pistachio croissant and an Almond Croissant had a baby. That is what this was. The traditional Almond Croissant but on top was a Pistachio creme. The last thing, and I question whether to even call this a pastry or that I should have had it for breakfast, but a Crookie. You know it, you love it. It is a Croissant stuffed with cookie dough and baked with cookie dough on top. This one used a S'mores cookie to make it all that much decadent. ____
After a work appointment, I dropped by and glad they were still opened - it was around 1pm/1:30pm when I went. Some bakeries like Halekulani close around 11:30am and I wasn't about to go to Starbucks. By the time I went, only 3 types of croissants were left. I got the chocolate croissant which did not disappoint and the croissant toast. The last thing left when I was cleaning up my table was the Tiramisu croissant. The owner was super pleasant. Offered free water to go with my croissant that I ate while sitting inside which was nice because I was already caffeinated out previously. I have been here several times in the past and just love how soft and layered these croissants are. Personally I don't like going into Waikiki much since it's like Times Square for me, but I would go for them or their neighbor Castro's.
Vavin Dessert Bar was worth the hype! Probably one of the better coffee shops we've been to in the area. The shop is so charming. Theres a limited amount of seating indoors and outdoors. We tried two types of drinks, the Hawaiian latte and the tiramisu latte. Both lattes were solid, but I liked the tiramisu latte a bit better. The tiramisu latte was not too sweet, to my liking, and it had a bit of a cream dollop. The Hawaiian latte was a bit more sweet in comparison. I ended up swapping my Hawaiian latte for my husband's tiramisu latte. There are many types of pastries, and it was challenging picking just 1. The beef sukiyaki croissant we picked had a fine flakiness to it when it was heated up. The beef had a nice flavor to it, balanced with slightly sweet but primarily savory. Good ratio of croissant to filling. It was a steep price for a croissant at ~$12 but nice to try. If I didn't have a buffet to look forward to later that day, I would have ordered another pastry. Service was friendly! Can't really comment on the parking situation, as we walked here. Overall, if I visited Waikīkī again, I would definitely make a stop back to Vavin!
I had the triple berry tea. It was quite tasty and refreshing. Just enough sweetness. The vanilla pecan eclair was so yummy I just wish it was a little bigger. I think I finished in 2 bites. There is pretty much 1 person in front taking order and making the drinks so be prepared for a wait especially if there are a few people already in line. I recommend going closer to when they first open in the morning.
Popped in at 7am on a rainy, Friday morning and was one of few there. Service was quick. I ordered a warm ham and cheese croissant (which was loaded!!). I'd say it was good... would be curious to see if they could sub the Dijon mustard it comes with for butter instead since the croissant was kinda dry. $10 a bit steep, too. Didn't get to try the drinks but they did look very tasty. Edit: came back for an iced latte and it was 10/10!
Stopped by this place while vacationing in Hawaii and was surprised at how good everything is! It's a small shop on a side street next to the Eggs n things. The service was a bit slow as the guy taking orders was also making the drinks, but the line did move reasonably quickly. The pastries here are all huge and delicious. I tried the double baked pistachio and was impressed by how flaky and well balanced the filling was. It had crunchy pistachios on top and a sweet creamy filling inside. They even warmed it up!
Wow! This place is such a vibe. While staying in Waikīkī, I was in the mood for some French pastries and a latte. This cafe was a short walk from Hale Koa and satisfied my cravings! They have both indoor and outdoor seating available. We ordered a few different items to share; the rainbow croissant, passionfruit eclairs, and raspberry eclairs were phenomenal! The raspberry one was my favorite by far. It was the perfect balance of tart and sweet. The croissant had a cream filling that was equally as delightful. The service was also spectacular. My son had accidentally spilled one of our lattes, and the employee made us another free of charge. It was really a great gesture and made a stressful situation less stressful. We will definitely visit again when we are in the area.
This was a great Yelp find! My husband was actually looking for a new spot to try coffee and Vavin had great ratings for their drinks and pastries. We made the walk over from our hotel and found this cute cafe, it has a view of the park and has indoor and outdoor seating. There was a steady stream of customers, but the line was short and we were able to easily grab a spot outside to eat. We ended up ordering their Provence Citronelle Eclair ($6.25), Rainbow Croissant ($8.75), Tiramisu Latte ($6) and Ginger and Lemongrass tea ($7). We sipped our drinks and enjoyed the food outside while people watching. The drinks were delicious, and the desserts were beautiful. The eclair was our favorite and we would definitely order it again, the passionfruit cream and yuzu glaze were so flavorful and bright. The rainbow croissant was gorgeous, but the current white peach filling was just ok for us. The person who helped us was friendly and made some great suggestions on drinks. Overall this experience was one of my favorites for coffee during the trip.
Croissant bread: 5/5!! Delicately crunchy on the outside, fluffy moist and cloud-like on the inside. Beats any croissant at Kona Coffee or Halekulani Bakery. Almond croissant: 3.5/5. Rather disappointing, after the high bar set by the croissant bread. Any crunch came from the almond slices on top, not the croissant itself. Generous filling of almond paste. Latte was decent, but Castro's next door was much better. In the future, we'll get coffee from Castro's and pastry from Vavin. Loved the outdoor seating and the cute dessert plates!
Bon! pâtisserie! Tre bien! alright that's 3/4 of the French I know. So I found another favorite dessert and definitely my most beloved latte ever. We got here right before opening and there was already a line forming behind us by the time the doors opened. If he's a little late opening, be patient I promise it's worth it, and don't try to pull the door open to check like my husband did (there were chairs, tables, and umbrellas still in the front of the pastry display and lights were on, deduce Sherlock- still setting up durr) haha. I've never been to Europe but I imagine this experience is similar to what you'd find in Paris in terms of the look of the cafe, dish ware on the shelf, and of course, the pastry. I'm so glad my husband entertains my food excursions. We ordered the tiramisu iced latte, cappuccino, T35, pain au chocolate, and of course the tiramisu mille feuille. The drinks were so well balanced and no modifications were needed because it was perfection. It was a tiramisu in a cup but less sweet and less heavy. I enjoyed my latte so much, I saved half and had it the next day. The T35 croissant was so crispy and flaky on the outside yet fluffy and light on the inside. Pain au chocolate had a nice quality chocolate so it wasn't too sweet and contrasted nicely with the pastry. If you ever decide to be crazy and only get one thing (good luck), get the tiramisu mille feuille... the pastry on the bottom is extremely crispy and buttery and beautifully flaky, the mascarpone cream is light and fluffy and tangy without being too sweet, and the espresso component is perfectly bitter. I left the shop having eaten all the pastry but brought the box home anyway to eat the rest of the flaky bits left over. We will be back soon! read more

Randomly found this place for breakfast after seeing Eggs N Things too packed. Beautifully decored coffee & bakery place. I was disappointed the rainbow croissant wasn't ready even though it's in the display. I got the hawaiian latte & mocha which were both delicious and strong taste of coffee. Croissants were amazing and perfectly baked. I took a star off due to the price.. it's on the higher end for a bakery and wish they could have at least put our coffees in a mug. Overall we had a great experience. read more

I just love writing these type of reviews. From taking a sip of coffee and then biting into a croissant you can just tell the owner and pastry chef Jin has invested a lot of love and respect to each of his ingredients. We got the tiramisu latte, crookie, and the raspberry eclair. Crookie: 10/10! Best crookie I've ever had. The chocolate cookie dough with marshmallows is soo gooey and melts in ur mouth. I like it undercooked like this. Def recc. Raspberry eclair: 10/10! My friend rlly liked it. Had a bite, the cream inside is so yummy tiramisu latte 6/10: a latte. Don't miss out on the best bakery and coffee in Waikiki! The lattes where perfect, the best we have had in the island. Very smooth espresso, perfect foam and temperature. Absolutely the best croissant on the island. Those other bakeries don't even come close! I thought Kona Coffee Purveyors had a good croissant until I came here. The little shop is directly across the post office, next door to Castros. Small seating inside and outside but I prefer to stay indoors with AC and less noise. Only one person working the register and the coffee bar but the orders came out super fast. I had other errands to run so I couldn't pick up any eclairs but I will definitely come back this week to take a bunch to go. I cannot believe I haven't been by here. I've had the pleasure of stopping in a few times over the past month or so since it's right across the street from my bus stop. It's a cute little shop, perfect to stop in and escape the heat for a bit. The croissants are always consistent and are beautifully flaky, buttery and delicious. I've tried several of their drinks, but my favorite is the first one I ever ordered, the Tiramisu Latte. Although I work at a "competitor" up the street from them, I would choose them over the Siren any day (just don't tell her I said that). Jin has been behind the counter every time I've gone in and is always happy to see me and talk shop. You can tell he is very passionate about his craft and I wish him much success! read more

Officially my favorite boulangerie in Honolulu! Very traditional coffee, viennoiserie, and patisserie selection-- some traditional and most novel. My go-tos are the Croissant Toast or Lava Almond Croissant. Ask your order for here to get that Parisian morning feel right in the heart of Waikiki! I also saw a huge selection of loose leaf teas that if you ask it for here, it's served in a teapot--making for a great afternoon tea spot as well! read more

Very cute little hide gem in Saratoga street next to Egg n Things. Coffee and pastries are very good . Love the croissant but recommend to eat there. Found this place because I was looking for fancy desserts for girl's night. I got lucky and found metered parking right past the post office that still had 23 minutes left on it. This is great little dessert cafe and worthy of your attention. My wife and I saw Vavin as we walked by. It was brand new, so there were barely any reviews. But the pastries looked so amazing that we had to try it out. And we are so glad that we did. It is obvious that the owner is passionate about this food. Everything is meticulously crafted. And delicious. We got a liliko'i eclair that tasted bright and tangy, just like fresh fruit. But our favorite was the tiramisu-inspired slice of decadence. The balance of cream and chocolate were perfect. Definitely worth your time and money to eat here. read more

If you are into aesthetics, this little dessert cafe is for you! Near Hard Rock Cafe in Waikiki, this cafe has a cool and charming Persian flare. We stopped by at noon. Some options were sold out but they still had a great selection to choose from. The cashier was very kind and informed us about the menu and the popular items. I ordered the pistachio croissant! Nutty, warm, and buttery, this flaky croissant was 10/10. Be warned, it was a bit messy! The Vivian caramel iced coffee was nice as well. We were lucky to find seats inside. The space is small so seating was limited. Many customers were seen to order and take out. If you're in need of something sweet I definitely recommend this cafe! read more

On our 7-day visit to Oahu, we sampled a lot of popularly-rated food vendors, because my 20 yr. old son enjoys quality food for a reasonable price. He's the type of guy who tastes something and can identify 95-99% of the ingredients. After finishing at my husband's one restaurant request, Egg & Things, for brunch, I was quite full as I passed by Vavin which was just around the corner. It was brand new and had curb appeal outside and in so I entered thinking just to peek. The croissant display looked delicious, artistic, and reminiscent of our trip to NY when my son had gone on a croissant-craze, all-over town exploration of top-rated bakeries. I called my boy in and he chose a plain croissant (to best analyze the quality) and the Tiramisu puff pastry. I got myself a cappuccino and Chef Jin pumped in 2 pumps of sugar. It was the best, well-balanced cappuccino! As Chef Jin described, it was between dark and medium roast so there was no bitterness. 5/5. The plain croissant had many multi-layered, crispy, flakey, buttery layers. The imported French flour Chef Jin uses makes a difference! Crispy, browned layers outside and buttery, moist airy layers on the inside. I thought it was better than the NY croissants, 5/5. My son said it was good, 4/5, but 3/5 because of price. My husband enjoyed the food, ambiance and friendly service. For some reason, restrooms are hard to access in Honolulu. However, Chef Jin avails his restroom which has fragrant soap and plush toilet paper with sincere hospitality. Everything was good, but the tiramisu was the standout item for the 3 of us! The puff pastry gave it a solid base to drizzle the caramel-ly coffee syrup and fluffy, light mascarpone cheese cream. 5/5 I couldn't resist and had to try a tea as well! Mind you, I was FULL before entering. Chef Jin suggested the Triple Berry Organic Tea since I requested something light and "good for me". He said the tea had antioxidants, vitamins, and detoxified. It was refreshing with the perfect, fruity sweetness for a tea, 5/5. I took it to go on a warming, afternoon walk in Honolulu. Since we ate in, each item was served on beautiful China Chef Jin had collected over the years. Good food with visual appeal. Loved our accidental "diversion". read more

i got here at 7am right when it opened. it's right next to castro's which is a very popular breakfast place so the area was already crowded. the ambiance isn't the best due to the crowd. i got the oolong tea & it came in a tea set. very cute & perfectly brewed. i also got the bacon egg & cheese croissant as well as the chocolate croissant. i've had better croissants. it wasn't anything awe inspiring. the owner was very nice. next time i want to try the pistachio croissant or the crookie. i'd come back mainly bc the aesthetic tea set was so cute. read more
