It's like stepping into your very own French cafe but in Hawaii. Located in the beginning part of Waikiki tucked into a side road, you can park in one of the many lots around the area. The cafe itself is small with 5 tables inside and 5 tables outside, but has high ceilings and well lit. I was instantly drawn to the croissants at the front counter. They have a variety of flavors such as chocolate, pistachio, almond and oatmeal, and you can tell they're all well made. The croissants are big (worth the price) and you can see all of the different layers and perfect lamination. They have a variety of coffee options, and even more tea options to choose from. We ordered the Double Pistachio Twice Baked Croissant, Iced Hawaiian Latte and Iced Vavin Caramel Latte with Oat milk. The croissant was perfectly crispy and golden brown on the outside and light and buttery on the inside. The pistachio topping was slightly crunchy and not overly sweet. The portion was bigger than I thought and we were able to split it between two people. The coffee is on the sweeter side, I prefer more coffee. Next time I'll order it with another shot of espresso.
While in Waikiki on O'ahu, I had the most divine pastries I could have expected at Vavin Dessert Bar. This was a bougie pastry shop, sure, but heck if I didn't go back every morning while on the island to try a different one. While there, I had their Lava Lava Almond Croissant which was a twice baked almond croissant that was perfectly flaky with a creamy frangipane in the middle. The second item I had was the Pistachio Twice Baked Croissant. Imagine if a pistachio croissant and an Almond Croissant had a baby. That is what this was. The traditional Almond Croissant but on top was a Pistachio creme. The last thing, and I question whether to even call this a pastry or that I should have had it for breakfast, but a Crookie. You know it, you love it. It is a Croissant stuffed with cookie dough and baked with cookie dough on top. This one used a S'mores cookie to make it all that much decadent. ____
After a work appointment, I dropped by and glad they were still opened - it was around 1pm/1:30pm when I went. Some bakeries like Halekulani close around 11:30am and I wasn't about to go to Starbucks. By the time I went, only 3 types of croissants were left. I got the chocolate croissant which did not disappoint and the croissant toast. The last thing left when I was cleaning up my table was the Tiramisu croissant. The owner was super pleasant. Offered free water to go with my croissant that I ate while sitting inside which was nice because I was already caffeinated out previously. I have been here several times in the past and just love how soft and layered these croissants are. Personally I don't like going into Waikiki much since it's like Times Square for me, but I would go for them or their neighbor Castro's.
Vavin Dessert Bar was worth the hype! Probably one of the better coffee shops we've been to in the area. The shop is so charming. Theres a limited amount of seating indoors and outdoors. We tried two types of drinks, the Hawaiian latte and the tiramisu latte. Both lattes were solid, but I liked the tiramisu latte a bit better. The tiramisu latte was not too sweet, to my liking, and it had a bit of a cream dollop. The Hawaiian latte was a bit more sweet in comparison. I ended up swapping my Hawaiian latte for my husband's tiramisu latte. There are many types of pastries, and it was challenging picking just 1. The beef sukiyaki croissant we picked had a fine flakiness to it when it was heated up. The beef had a nice flavor to it, balanced with slightly sweet but primarily savory. Good ratio of croissant to filling. It was a steep price for a croissant at ~$12 but nice to try. If I didn't have a buffet to look forward to later that day, I would have ordered another pastry. Service was friendly! Can't really comment on the parking situation, as we walked here. Overall, if I visited Waikīkī again, I would definitely make a stop back to Vavin!
I had the triple berry tea. It was quite tasty and refreshing. Just enough sweetness. The vanilla pecan eclair was so yummy I just wish it was a little bigger. I think I finished in 2 bites. There is pretty much 1 person in front taking order and making the drinks so be prepared for a wait especially if there are a few people already in line. I recommend going closer to when they first open in the morning.
Popped in at 7am on a rainy, Friday morning and was one of few there. Service was quick. I ordered a warm ham and cheese croissant (which was loaded!!). I'd say it was good... would be curious to see if they could sub the Dijon mustard it comes with for butter instead since the croissant was kinda dry. $10 a bit steep, too. Didn't get to try the drinks but they did look very tasty. Edit: came back for an iced latte and it was 10/10!
Stopped by this place while vacationing in Hawaii and was surprised at how good everything is! It's a small shop on a side street next to the Eggs n things. The service was a bit slow as the guy taking orders was also making the drinks, but the line did move reasonably quickly. The pastries here are all huge and delicious. I tried the double baked pistachio and was impressed by how flaky and well balanced the filling was. It had crunchy pistachios on top and a sweet creamy filling inside. They even warmed it up!
Wow! This place is such a vibe. While staying in Waikīkī, I was in the mood for some French pastries and a latte. This cafe was a short walk from Hale Koa and satisfied my cravings! They have both indoor and outdoor seating available. We ordered a few different items to share; the rainbow croissant, passionfruit eclairs, and raspberry eclairs were phenomenal! The raspberry one was my favorite by far. It was the perfect balance of tart and sweet. The croissant had a cream filling that was equally as delightful. The service was also spectacular. My son had accidentally spilled one of our lattes, and the employee made us another free of charge. It was really a great gesture and made a stressful situation less stressful. We will definitely visit again when we are in the area.
This was a great Yelp find! My husband was actually looking for a new spot to try coffee and Vavin had great ratings for their drinks and pastries. We made the walk over from our hotel and found this cute cafe, it has a view of the park and has indoor and outdoor seating. There was a steady stream of customers, but the line was short and we were able to easily grab a spot outside to eat. We ended up ordering their Provence Citronelle Eclair ($6.25), Rainbow Croissant ($8.75), Tiramisu Latte ($6) and Ginger and Lemongrass tea ($7). We sipped our drinks and enjoyed the food outside while people watching. The drinks were delicious, and the desserts were beautiful. The eclair was our favorite and we would definitely order it again, the passionfruit cream and yuzu glaze were so flavorful and bright. The rainbow croissant was gorgeous, but the current white peach filling was just ok for us. The person who helped us was friendly and made some great suggestions on drinks. Overall this experience was one of my favorites for coffee during the trip.
Croissant bread: 5/5!! Delicately crunchy on the outside, fluffy moist and cloud-like on the inside. Beats any croissant at Kona Coffee or Halekulani Bakery. Almond croissant: 3.5/5. Rather disappointing, after the high bar set by the croissant bread. Any crunch came from the almond slices on top, not the croissant itself. Generous filling of almond paste. Latte was decent, but Castro's next door was much better. In the future, we'll get coffee from Castro's and pastry from Vavin. Loved the outdoor seating and the cute dessert plates!

Fantastic plain croissants and eclair! Friendly service. Great cafe ambiance. I really like their hot and iced teas (even if these need to steep ~5 minutes). Wasn't intending to write a review because I don't want everyone rushing here but really worth a try. For my first review in a very long time, this place deserves a login and shout out. Within walking distance for most hotels and near parking at the post office. Having been to Paris for a brief, lovely minute and in that very short amount of time, I ate many croissants, this place is quite good. The owner and wife have studied and worked in Paris and now sharing their talents and creativity here! Will I be back? Yes probably too soon and right after I finish the virtual marathon this month. They're open from 7am but tend to run out of their popular items around 2p so go earlier in the day to snag your fave items. Grabbed a Rainbow Croissant, Crookie and Province Citronelle Eclair. Literally the best croissant that I've had on island. It's buttery and flaky, but not overly buttery that the oil gets on your fingers. The cream that is filled inside of the Rainbow Croissant is light and not too sweet. The Crookie has the cookie batter with brown sugar bits inside of that croissant. That Crookie is massive and I had to eat it in 2 sittings. The Province Citronelle Eclair had a passion fruit citrus flavor that was strong enough to hold its own on that eclair, just the right sized amount of everything. And they also have coffees and teas, in which my colleague mentioned that the Hojicha Latte was very flavorful and spot on. Ample seating inside and outside of the shop. The workers are not much of talkers, but they do get the job done. The gentleman/chef who works the front and the pastries was efficient. And when we went back a few days later, he seemed to recognize us and gave us a little smile and head nod. We saw Mille crepe cakes and a few other pastries that we wanted to try on our next go around, so we'll be back for those! read more

Who would've thought the best croissant outside of France is in Waikiki?! A mile high, flaky, soft in the middle, light, fluffy, not too rich or greasy... perfection! The almond croissant has a ton of fresh slivered almonds on top with warm almond paste. Delicious!! I had the lilikoi eclair which was small but delicious and tasty. Wish we had more time to enjoy yea service, which looked divine. Slower service, with only two employees, but the main guy looked Japanese. If you know anything about Japanese, most are masters of perfection, and this bakery is proof. Enjoy!! read more

***2.5 STARS*** Vavin Dessert Bar is a new and trendy cafe located in Waikiki, specializing in French-fusion pastries. Stepping into the cafe for the first time, the establishment was gorgeous--brightly lit with a display of fresh baked croissants. I was hopeful after seeing how huge and delicious the croissants were, but unfortunately my experience at Vavin fell short, mainly in terms of customer service. Starting off with the better part of our experience, we ordered the Pistachio Croissant and the Hawaiian Latte. We also wanted to get one of the eclairs as well, but they said they would not be ready for another 3 hours... we came in at 10:30 AM and they open at 7 AM. The Pistachio Croissant was pretty tasty--the pistachio flavor was spot-on. It's definitely on the sweeter side, but I didn't mind that at all. However, the croissant was not really flaky and had a rather mushy mouthfeel, maybe because of all the cream filling inside and the pistachio glaze. The croissant ends were crispy though! The Hawaiian latte was not bad, but honestly, not too memorable. Customer service, however, was subpar. Although my partner ordered the Pistachio Croissant at the register, they brought out an Almond Croissant to our table. When we asked about our order, we were confronted in an unkind and unprofessional manner. He even brought out the receipt, which sure, said Almond Croissant. He also kept saying "You got the Almond one." I'm not going to argue who was right or wrong since it's all hearsay anyways. However, we would've appreciated it much more if the owner just corrected the honest mistake--regardless of who made the mistake. This made us feel uninvited. He also came by a second time to ask us to pay the difference, which was fine. Overall, I'm not sure if I'll come back after these interactions, which is a shame since I really wanted to come back to try the eclairs. read more
The Hawaiian honey and sea salt croissant was perfectly flaky on the outside with crisp layers. The inside was just moist enough and not too oily. The honey glaze gave it a touch of sweetness so you could eat the croissant alone. The pain Au chocolat had great quality chocolate. It was a bit more on the bready side and there were several big bites without any chocolate. They are unable to offer their special drinks as decaf. Cute little pastry/coffee shop on the outskirts of Waikiki with indoor and outdoor seating. Appreciated the nice to-go box. Parking was difficult as street is hard to come by and paid parking rates at the post office across the street are steep. read more
This is a must try if you are in the area! My only regret is that I didn't get a chance to go back to try more! The service was so great and you can tell that they use fresh high quality ingredients. Ambiance is also adorable as a rest stop for a coffee and pastry while checking out the area. I had a Hawaiian latte which I asked for less sweet and it was perfect! It had a salty milk foam on top that was incredible. Just a perfectly balanced sweet latte! I also had the cinnamon pastry which was not too sweet and the perfect compliment to the coffee. My friend had a rainbow croissant that he loved and another friend had the raisin pastry which she also loved. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the pastries here! If I ever get the opportunity to come back to this area, I'm coming back for a croissant!!! read more

My friend and I went there for breakfast on Veterans day. Fortunately parking was easy to find (maybe because its a holiday?). The food was simply amazing and service was fast. We sat outside and it was comfortable because it wasn't too hot. read more

This place is super cool! The owner you can tell takes pride in his work, everything is handcrafted and delicious. We went on a Friday late and they were almost sold out of everything, so we came back again Saturday morning for some more treats. We tried the rainbow tree croissant (delish), almond , and Hawaiian latte. I definitely recommend Vavin for a treat! It is slightly on the expensive side but you can surely taste and appreciate the artisanal craft from the chef and this is a unique experience. It's like Hawaii + France combined! read more
I walked by this shop purely by chance and decided to poke my head in and take a look. I'm glad I did. They had a beautiful array of upscale pastries and it was difficult to pick which ones to try. So I went for two classics - the almond croissant and the chocolate croissant. They were presented beautifully in a box suitable for gifting. The croissants were huge and delicious. The chocolate croissant was especially appealing from a visual standpoint. Service was quick and the person was warm and friendly. I look forward to returning to try more of their items. read more

Don't let the name dessert bar shy you away from coming here for breakfast! We came here twice on our 7 day vacation and were impressed every time. The coffee is amazing, and the baked goods are straight off the streets of Paris. Between our visits we had the Ham and cheese croissant, the rainbow croissant, the sea salt and honey, and my all time favorite chocolate croissant. Loved the small cafe feel and the service was quick. Worth a stop! read more

Paris! "C'est bon!" Nostalgia for latte, bonbons, and delightful cafes made me go on a hunt for a fine Parisian bakery in Hawaii. Vavin! Voila! Where have you been?? Delightful in every essence. Fine china and silver dessert forks. A true chef connoisseur from Vavin, France! The cheesecake is divine. There is nowhere that makes cheesecake taste its absolute French finest as you can experience here. I loved the local fusion lilikoi eclair, the push and pull croissant so fluffy and crunchy on the outside, with a hint of delicately brushed sweetness- so mouthwatering. Let me just say it's a taster's paradise. I tried what I could there then brought more to share with family. The tiramisu logs were divine. No tiramisu on island has that eclectic French flair. That latte -iced or hot- so French. So enchante! Park across from the post office and cross the street. Conveniently located next to eggs and things, look for the white umbrellas! I shall be back! You delightful morsel of goodness!! Go early! More than half were gone by the time I eagerly got there by 12:00. read more

Heard about this place from friends and decided to go get one the day after Halloween. Located on Saratoga, it's a small quaint place. Kind of what you'd expect to see in France or even New York. They had a variety of flaky croissants and a large assortment of drinks. Since it was my dad"s birthday I decided to get him the Pain Au Chocolat- a croissant filled with Valrhona chocolate. I also got the twice baked pistachio, honey and sea salt and the T45 which is their original croissant. Ate the original when I got home and it was so good! The outside was flaky and light, the interior was soft and had a nice chew. It was the BEST croissant I had. It rivaled the ones I'd eaten in Japan and was even better than the ones I'd eaten at Bouchon in Vegas. This one was so good my parents ate the rest. I plan to go back for more croissants and maybe a basque cheesecake or eclair. Don't sleep on this place! read more

Really cute cafe! They have plenty of different croissants! I got a couple of stuff and pastries as well. I gotta stay it's really good! The rainbow and chocolate croissants were my favorite! I also got a tiramisu latte and that was delicious as well! The service was quite fast and welcoming! The atmosphere was great! And cute little seating areas for your coffee and desserts. I enjoyed looking at the desserts and eating it! I would recommend coming here again! The bad part about this location is the parking. If your local it's gonna be hard finding parking in Waikiki especially when you don't wanna pay $10 for parking. You'll be lucky to find street parking. This place blew me away with exceptional pastries and coffee! The owner behind the bar was nice and his passion is apparent in the attention to detail in everything, from the food to the decor. There are some outdoor tables, but there is also a comfortable space inside, which was perfect to wait out some unexpected rain in Waikiki. I had an iced Hawaiian latte and my husband got a (hot) cappuccino. The drinks were tasty and the presentation was cute and thoughtful. The real star was the pastries. We got a chocolate croissant, the rainbow croissant, and some sort of eclair. The rainbow croissant was pretty, but it somehow tasted even better. Honestly, it was one of the best croissants I've ever had. I only wish this place was near my home, because I would be a regular! read more

Ordered their croissant and pain au chocolat which were both yummy and a cappuccino. Was looking forward to having cappuccino in a nice cup for the photo but it was in a to go cup. Other then that their pastries here seems legit and it's a great place to stop in if you're craving for something like this in Waikiki! read more

I wish I found out about this place sooner! My wife and I were out walking our dog near fort DeRussy and we stumbled upon this place and couldn't help but walk in to see what they were selling. Their desserts or incredible. There is nobody on this island selling croissants like this! The service is outstanding as well. The owner makes all the desserts himself and serves it with a smile. I can see he is proud of what he is putting out. The attention to detail is by far their best quality. The craftsmanship in the work that was done in this cafe is beautifully done. Just as good as his food and coffees are you see that reflect in their choice of contractors and designers. Their plates and cup options are so nice makes you feel like you're in a cafe in Europe. I can not wait to go back and make this our new weekend coffee stop. read more

I went here almost everyday on my weeklong trip to Honolulu! I almost never go back to the same place when I travel but their pastries and coffee were just too good! The sea salt foam on their lattes was amazing. I would ask for extra foam everyday. My favorite pastries was the Hawaiian honey and sea salt croissant and the raspberry eclair, but you really can't go wrong here. We also got tea while waiting for some pastries once and you can get it in a cute tea set while you're there! read more

The pastries and drinks were fantastic! I've been recommending the hojicha latte to all of my friends. The cafe has a good amount of seating indoors and outdoors but the doors do stay open so we were swatting flies away from our table almost the whole time we were there. There also seems to be a little drama with the next door restaurant over outdoor seating and it made our dine in experience a little uncomfortable. I'll definitely go back but I'll probably just do take out. read more
You must come here!! We ordered theee desserts to share between the two of us and although it was more food than we needed... we ate it all. Everything we got was delightful, the tiramisu dessert, the fraiser, and the passionfruit/yuzu eclair. The chef was so kind and everything was plated/prepared when you order so it is all fresh. Definitely get here earlier than the closing hours as the shop closes when sold out. Couldn't recommend more. read more
Very cute little French themed bakery in downtown Waikiki that had the most amazing pastries! We watched as the baker hand filled each one and packaged them up for us and wow! Each one was so good! The croissants were flaky, the fillings were flavorful without being too sweet, it was beautifully packaged, with great attention to detail. Also possibly the most expensive pastries I've ever bought, but the craftsmanship and the fact that it's Waikīkī prices makes it make sense. read more

Friendly service. Went shortly after they opened on a Saturday morning. They sell out and close earlier than the displayed hours daily - so go in the morning if you can. Good options: butter croissants, valrhona chocolate croissant, double pistachio, rainbow tower, and nice eclairs. read more
