I knew Valter/Sustainable Solutions had done the hardscaping at my house about 10 years before I bought it, so I already knew his work was solid and stood the test of time. I chose Valter because he was the only person who really listened to my specific vision rather than pushing his own standard, cookie cutter ideas. His team extended my pavers, built two new fences between my neighbors, created a perfect dry riverbed, and even installed artificial turf. If it involves an outdoor renovation, chances are they can do it! What really sets Sustainable Solutions apart is Valter. He is personable, responsive, and genuinely cares. His prices are fair (not necessarily the cheapest) but the quality was excellent and it's his own team doing the work not sub contractors. Most importantly, he didn't lowball the estimate and then upcharge me as the project went along. I always felt I was being treated fairly. I had such a good experience that his team will now be doing a project at my elderly mother's house. That probably says more than anything about how much I trust him. I asked Robert Palacios to stop by and give me a ballpark estimate on building a short decorative wall in my front yard. I showed him an example of the look I was trying to achieve, and he made several suggestions on how it could be better. The bid was very reasonable and within my budget. During the process of the job, I asked him to bid on installing an RV driveway made of pavers to match the decorative wall. This was going to be an improvement that I would put off until later when my cash flow would be better. The bid came in at such an attractive price that my wife and I decided to take advantage of the offer. Robert worked with me at every step to arrive at a final result that complemented my property with a mix of functionality and aesthetics. Everyone that walks by the house while we are in the yard feels compelled to say how great the paver work looks. Even though some of the features that were designed in after the original bid cost more, Robert held to his original bid. This goes counter to my experience with contractors who take advantage of every upgrade to make up for the original low bid. We also love that when he came out, he actually had sample grasses for us to pick from on the spot and a booklet of all the paver options, so it was easy to visualize the end result. This wasn't a case of us going silent and then springing complaints on you after the fact. You were called multiple times about the issues with the lawn and hardscape, and I sent you photos documenting exactly what needed attention: pavers that were chipped and needed to be replaced, sections of grass that needed to be redone, and rocks the size of a computer that were dug out from underneath the sod after installation. That's not normal settling or post-installation damage on my end -- that's material that should never have been under the turf in the first place. I did my part in reaching out and giving you the chance to come out and make it right. The follow-through and the level of expertise just weren't there. On the grass itself: you specialize in turf, and that's exactly why I relied on your recommendation. A cool-season variety on a south-facing lawn in the Santa Clarita heat was the wrong call from the start. That's precisely the kind of judgment call that should have come from your expertise -- not something I should have had to catch myself as a homeowner. And the grading, plainly, is still bad. It wasn't caused by me digging around to troubleshoot brown spots -- it was there before that, and digging to investigate a problem you hadn't resolved doesn't change that the base grading was off to begin with. I want to be fair here: you're a genuinely nice person, and I did tell you early on that I was satisfied and would consider recommending you to neighbors. That was true at the time. But the issues that surfaced since then, and the lack of resolution on things I'd already flagged, are what led me to write the review I did. I
