We had to take Daisy to this VCA last week due to what we thought was a gastrointestinal issue. The doctor kept her all day and ordered necessary tests. A few things were wrong with a few tests but none what caused her issues. The next day we called back as she had a rough night. They said they had done as many tests as they could and had us go to an emergency vet. I want to say that the help our doggie received was great. The doctor and all who helped deserve a special thank you. I am sad to say, after 5 different vets, it was discovered that she has something wrong in her brain and a mass on each kidney. The wait time was super long yet nobody else was there. They over charge Only reason I came is because my normal vet was closed due to a fire. Absolutely horrific experience. This clinic should be ashamed of the way they treated both me and my dog. I brought in my 10-year-old pit bull because he had stopped eating for about a day and a half and had a lump on his abdomen. Without running a SINGLE test, biopsy, scan, or blood panel, the vet immediately and aggressively pushed euthanasia, insisting my dog had terminal cancer and there was "nothing" that could be done. When I asked for a biopsy or any actual diagnostics, the dr basically refused and told me it "wouldn't change the outcome." They even told me I needed to "come to Jesus" and accept that this is what happens to dogs. Completely disgusting, insensitive, and unprofessional behavior toward someone terrified for their family pet. The most disturbing part was when I said I wanted to take my dog home for a second opinion. Instead of respecting that decision, they threatened to call animal control on me for animal abuse if I didn't follow their recommendation. I felt bullied, manipulated, and emotionally cornered while trying to make a life or death decision for my dog. I ended up leaving with pain meds for my dog so they wouldn't escalate the situation and so I could take my dog somewhere else's The second veterinarian actually did their job. They examined my dog properly and determined the lump was BENIGN and removable with a minor surgery. They told me my dog was actually in relatively good health for his age. After surgery and antibiotics, he is now recovering and doing great. This clinic was fully prepared to have me put down a dog that did NOT have terminal cancer without even bothering to do the bare minimum testing first. That is beyond unacceptable. If you love your pets, stay far away from this place. read more

I should've made this review years ago, I have always meant to but just hadn't gotten around to it. The staff here truly cares about animals and gives the best care. My dog Roxy had a medical emergency back in 2022 where she choked on pizza crust. I rushed to this facility but they were unfortunately closed. Thankfully there was staff in the building and after knocking on the door and letting them know my dog's life was in danger, they took her in despite being closed. They saved her that night, but I was told she had a tumor which was on her heart and this was why she had choked. Unfortunately Roxy was 14 so surgery wasn't the best option. She died around 2 months later. Im thankful for the fact that VCA saved her and gave me a bit more time with my beautiful girl. I trust VCA and will use them should any of my other pets become sick. read more

Twice VCA refused to see my dogs. They claimed that there were booked but the parking lot was empty and no one was in the hospital. I told them that I understand that you claim to be booked but this is an urgent care facility, and they still said that that cannot help me. My dog's canine tooth fell out, and he had an infection that needed immediate treatment. They recommended me to other vets in the area. I've used VCA for the last 20 years and I will not go back to them ever. If you pull into a parking lot and its empty and the lobby has no patients or fur parents hanging out, take that as a red flag that customer service is not a concern to them or your pets. read more

We didn't have any choice but to visit VCA Central Animal Hospital. They are very flexible with their appointment times. My first impression of the place was that it is very clean. The employees are very helpful. The presentation of the treatment plan is on point and the doctor who helped us is very detailed with his explanation of what our fur baby was going through. Our only issue is of course the fees involved. For an emergency visit due to an ear infection cost us $500. If not for a HIPAA reasons, I'd post the receipt on here. Dr. Ho was amazing at explaining to me her condition and what was going on. When he said that we would possibly have to discuss end of life care, I was devastated. He was so kind and empathic. I have CareClub and was told by my usual location that I could go to this Upland location for emergency services. I recently went for a hike with my dog and suspected she drank some river water. I was pretty worried when she threw up because it's blue green algae season. When I called to get help on determining how urgent the situation was and/or if I needed to bring her in right away, the front desk was what I would consider negligent considering the circumstances. In blue green algae cases, because there is no cure, the best attempt at treatment is to flush the system or provide activated charcoal - but this only works if you catch it early enough. The front desk told me the only availability was for 5 hours later and when I asked whether waiting that long was okay, she told me that she didn't know because she had never heard of blue green algae before. That's fair, nobody knows everything but then she should have asked the vet for advice or recommended I try a different emergency hospital if they were booked lol. Thankfully I was able to call an emergency vet I had gone to in the past and they were able to actually provide advice befitting of an urgent care location. I don't know about their other services, but do not depend on this location to properly assess the situation when it comes to potential emergencies. read more

I made my dog an appointment for anal gland expression (takes less than 5 min). I was told the price for this service over the phone. When I got there, the receptionist charged me double the price. I was told $32 when I made the appointment then charged $60. The person who scheduled the appointment should be held accountable. This review is going to be one of the hardest reviews I've ever had to make. Back story this review is from our first experience with VCA. My cat Ivorie she was 16years old. In the beginning of this year she was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease. I knew it was her time to cross the rainbow. Unfortunately we had a bad experience with an employee at her Vet Chino Hills Animal Hospital. I decided to look elsewhere to take her for her last vet visit before she crossed over the rainbow. Unfortunately on 11/19 I notice she was hardly getting up. She hadn't eat or drank water that day or the day before I called over 12 Animal Hospitals and for some reason VCA stuck out to me. When I called them and the timing was perfect. I felt it was meant to be. I was given an estimated amount of what it will be which I appreciated. I would like to thank Kimberly for helping me this day. You don't understand how your kindness made this process smooth. I wish I would have remembered the Vet's name that helped my Ivorie cross over the rainbow peacefully. When we got there we were taken into a room and were able to have as much time as we needed which I was so grateful for. As soon as we entered they had the lights dimmed, a fake candle, tissue and a poem that was so sweet. I began crying once I saw that. I wasn't expecting any of that. It was so nice of them to do that. The Vet explained how it was going to happen. We paid before it was done so that way we can leave after without worrying about paying. The Vet tech brought her in with her IV. He said he was giving her some love in the back. I appreciated that because he's never met her and is giving her his love. I was able to be cheek to cheek with her. Kissing her and telling her how much I love her. Me telling her that was the last thing she heard as she crossed the rainbow. She was left for us to say our final goodbyes. When they came to get her we were able to take our time and weren't rushed to leave. We asked the Vet for her paw prints as well as some hair. I paid for private cremation so I will get that back in 2 weeks from 11/19. Also we had a separate door to exit but thankfully we were the last ones to leave. The other employee gave us her condolences. Overall I am so glad under the circumstances I picked VCA. Thank you again for treating us with compassion during this difficult time. read more

I had taken my Boston Charlie here throughout his years. We moved further away so our visits became more occasional, especially when I couldn't be seen by my typical vet. I ended up taking him here for his last appointment. I took him in because he was sick for a few days and after a conversation decided it was best to have him put down that same visit. They let me have as much time as I wanted from start to finish, dimmed the room and let me hold him until I was ready to leave. They spoke kindly and gently to me. They were so kind when I picked up his memorial boxes and even sent me a card in the mail a couple of weeks later sending their condolences. I will never forget their compassion. I am so thankful there are professionals out there who love your pets like you do and treat you with kindness in the hardest moments. read more

My husband and I chose this place because it was highly recommended but I WOULD NEVER recommend this place to anyone I know with pets. We brought our cat in due to blood in her stool. They tried having us pay 2000 dollars for X-rays and some bloodwork after we told them twice we just want the bloodwork. We ended up paying 700$ just for them to give us medication for dogs which consisted of cinnamon which can be fatal to cats. When my husband called them to let them know they tried to say it was our fault for not telling them right away. We trusted this place with our baby and they're not taking it serious. We took our 3 year old Beagle who was suffering from extreme pain in his back to VCA. Dr. Wachowiak examined him and recommended that we get some imaging done, as he suspected that it was a herniated disc in his back. He al recommended surgery to remove that disc. We agreed and left Copper there for the night. Turns out it was a severely herniated disc. Copper had surgery that next day and we picked him up the following day. I can't say enough about Dr. Wachowiak and his staff.....they were so helpful, compassionate and just simply wonderful. Copper is completely out of pain now. I highly recommend VCA to anyone in need of a wonderful vet. He was truly an answer to prayer. read more

My little guy (a senior gray and white short haired domestic tabby cat), was really weak when we drove into Upland VCA after a 9 hour trip from Carson City, NV. By the way.....you know your on a mission when you can hold your own 'sensitive organs' from spillage when driving 9 hours just to get your weak little cat to an ER asap. From the very beginning of walking into the office at VCA Central, the staff was so gracious and understanding. I think due to the Pandemic maybe? It is really, really difficult to get a pet seen in a reasonable timeframe. Appointments seems to be 2 months out for most vets these days. I had been struggling to have my KitKat seen for the past 6 months (due to our own hectic traveling schedule as well), but finally, we really had no choice but to drag him into an ER facility after a very hot August 9 hour drive down from Northern Nevada. I really thought KitKat was on his 9th life, but Dr. Geiger and the staff at VCA worked their detailed loving (*although expensive) magic on my little guy. They put up with my calling in every hour on the hour upon dropping him off and they were just so very patient and kind with me. THANK YOU beautiful VCA staffers!! I was definitely a "Nervous Nelly" leaving my little fragile guy there overnight, but again, just talking to the very compassionate Staff was so very reassuring for me. I had a TOTAL GOOD feeling that KitKat was in good hands. The loving detailed care of Dr. Geiger (and staff) put all my nerves to rest. Lo and behold, I finally received that long awaited call in the morning from the doctor exactly when she said she would call me, and KitKat had made a complete turn around due to their true LOVE, CARE and SCIENTIFIC knowledge of what it took to get him back to baseline. Thank you VCA Central! Here is a picture of KitKat's Prayer Bear (and kitkat keeping warm on a cold No. Nevada night). I used to place his Prayer Beaer little by his side every day when we bottle fed him to health (and life) after being abandoned by his Feral Cat momma cat back in 2007. He was only ounces in weight (he was so small, he could fit in the palm of our hand) when we took him in from being left on our back patio and now 15 years later, he gives us his love and appreciation just by being HIM; a cranky old man now, but a loving, beautiful cat FUR SURE!! Prayers are heard Yelp Readers! And Angels do exist.....at VCA Central Animal Hospital in Upland, CA. Thank you Katie and Dr. Geiger and all who kept a close eye on our Grumpy Ol Kitkat...sorry if he growled a lot, but that just means you saved his life. I was informed that the appointment would be a walk in that is scheduled for a specific time. I waited a total of two hours and was told to pay an extremely high amount after my pet was seen. I normally do not like giving negative reviews, but due to this poor experience I will. Long story short, I found a kitten on the freeway and rescued it. I called and made an appointment, and my spouse took the kitten in. She explained we had a dog and kept the kitten separated and wanted to ensure the kitten was healthy and had no health problems. The vet came in, gave him medication to deworm him and a routine shot. Told us the cat was male and that is all the information she received. Visually looked at him, told us the cat was "healthy" then left. At the end of the visit a nurse asked us how old the cat was and my spouse said she did not know. She was surprised in the lack of information the vet provided. She retrieved a separate vet that provided us with the weight and age of the cat then charged us 130 dollars. This is the kicker.... After being home another few days, I noticed my dog getting rings on his nose and losing hair on the his nose. I also noticed that the kitten had small rings of dead skin on its ears that I noticed when I found the kitten but thought it was due to being a stray 6 week old kitten. The following day myself and my spouse noticed red patches on our skin as well.... The cat gave us ringworm. The cat that this vet told us was healthy and charged us 130 dollars to see. After finding the ringworm, we recalled and tried to schedule a new appointment for both of my pets. They said it would be 140 dollars per animal for a next day visit or I could choose a regular visit for 80 dollars per pet and wait a week. I kindly chose another vet. Since then, it has been about 2 weeks and I have spent approximately 900 dollars at a separate vet on getting both my cat and dog's skin tested, medication, shampoo. Although, my pets are now getting better, this would have been completely avoidable if this first visit would have gone like it should have. The vet wanted to go home more. My spouse was the last appointment of the day. read more

Me and my girlfriend went to take our cat to be checked out for a huge lump in his throat. At first, we were quickly taken care of, then it took almost 20 minutes for the doctor to see us. Then, he came in and looked at our cat for less than a few minutes, confirmed his diagnosis, and gave us little to no information on what the infection was, how he could have gotten it, and how it could be prevented. It felt very rushed and he left pretty quickly. Then, 20 minutes later the nurse comes back in and gives us a quote with 3 different medications and no information about what they are and why these medications. We asked to see the doctor again for further clarification and he came in and explained his diagnosis in an extremely condescending manner to my girlfriend when we were just asking questions to double-check since we didn't get much information to start. Then it took another 30 minutes to get the medication:) read more

We are on social security. We cannot afford that and our pet insurance doesn't cover it unless it's medically indicated. Overall, I would continue to use this office for my pet care. read more

I needed to put my dog to sleep after 15 great years. Its a hard thing to do anywhere at any time, but the staff here made it much easier. Everyone from the front desk to the Doctor was compassionate through the whole experience. They brought out a gurney to the parking lot so I wouldn't need to carry him, I could start the process at any time instead of waiting until the end of the day, they never at any point rushed us and even sent a card afterwards. Not that it really matters in that situation but they were also half price compared to the other pet hospital much closer to my house. read more

I appreciate the hard work and dedication that Veterinarians and their staff provide to help us with our fur babies. However our initial visit with this clinic was way below our expectations. We recently adopted a dog from a local shelter that provided a complimentary wellness exam with VCA. During our initial intake that veterinary assistant asked if we had any concerns regarding our new dog. We mentioned that she had a lot of scabs on her ears and scratched them a lot. When Dr. Li came in, he performed a very cursory examination (including her ears) and then said everything on her looked good and healthy. We were flabbergasted by the fact he just missed her ear issue and only mentioned that our dog had some plaque but didn't offer any treatment options. He didn't seem very interested, and came across as wanting to rush us out. At the end of the visit we were provided a first time visit "goodie" bag. When we got home we noticed the goodie bag was for a cat, with cat related items. One of which was a laser pointer that didn't even work. I guess coming in with a certificate for a free exam results in not receiving quality care. We were willing to pay for any tests or treatments that were required to help our pup, but were never offered any. read more

Although its clean, and has a friendly staff, every time we visited this (5 times was too many), it was like starting over with our pet's history with them. I don't know if it's purposely shady, to get clients to buy dupliacte services/Rx, or if it is just their aniquated paper records, but they always said our pet needed services, even when it just got that service the last visit - VCA: "X needs X." US: "X just got that last visit." VCA: "O sorry, I didn't review record...it's not in the record." This is the same case with their online system - it's never updated with current records and always shows things as outstanding even if they've been received, at their own location. Again, not sure if shady or just really poorly run, but moving on from this place. read more
