I found the VCA after trying three other vets in the area. Thank goodness. I really can't say enough good things about the VCA - they have a wonderful staff - everyone from the receptionists to the techs to the vets are caring individuals who really love animals. Excellent bedside manner all around - and when your pet is sick, this is really important. I often wait for a long time to see the vet, but I never really mind because once I'm in I receive excellent attention. I never feel rushed or hurried, and the vets always take as much time as I need to get all the information I require. And I have never once felt that anyone was attempting to up-sell me on my pet's care. This is a great place - your animals and you will be well taken care of! read more

Don`t go to this hospital, they are unusual expensive and took extra check fees(about 60 dollars for only "check") without telling you. And, let me tell you how they do the "check": They touched my cat`s ear, and used a stethoscope to listen to her－－－That`s all!! It lasts about 5 minutes! What`s more, we spent over 200 dollars every time！And works nothing to my 1 year old cat who has nothing serious. read more

I was really scared to try to find a new vet for my cat after moving from the middle of Pennsylvania to the Boston area. There are a lot of vets around and it's difficult to tell who's good. But when I was worried my poor cat was getting sick, I had to take her somewhere fast. I ended up calling my old vet in PA and asking them to recommend another American Animal Hospital Association-accredited vet, and they pointed me here. When I called, VCA Everett Animal Hospital was able to give me an appointment the same day. I've got to say, the VCA Everett Animal Hospital doesn't look like much from outside... or inside. You walk in to a fairly dull waiting room (which unfortunately smelled like dog pee, but it IS a vet's office) and sit on really uncomfortable benches. But the desk staff is really nice. After a short wait we took the cat into the office. The assistant and doctor were both very friendly and seemed knowledgeable. Dr. Berard pet my cat the whole time she was talking to us, which I thought was sweet. They answered all our questions and didn't pressure us to spend money on costly (and potentially unneeded) procedures. They said that if kitty's health declined to call the office and they'd see her again as soon as possible. I give VCA four stars for their friendly staff and competent doctors. Took off a star for the gross waiting room and for the unfriendly chick we paid at the end (me using a coupon to pay for my cat's visit does not necessitate sighing and eye-rolling, thanks), but everything else was satisfactory. For your reference, an office visit is $59, but they've got a coupon you can print off their site for a free first visit, which is hard to pass up! read more

I started coming to VCA Everett after I got my first dog 4 years ago. Now, I have four dogs and they are all seen here. All four dogs are on the care package, which includes vaccines, spay/neutering, and unlimited check-ups for skin problems. In short, I come here a lot and they're probably sick of me. I have met with all of the vets here. Bottom line, I always feel like my pets are taken care of. Staff is kind, the veterinarians are very patient and knowledgeable. After some dental work, spay and neuter for 3 of my dogs (and the 4th one coming up), they've all come home fine and heal well. I'm always asked if I have any questions. I never feel rushed. I am never pushed to do any testing or diagnostics I don't want. I have never been billed for any suspicious charges. This is not a place that is trying to make money off of you as some other reviewers have suggested. The building is also nice and clean (recently renovated) with lots of parking. Pets are not cheap because a life is not cheap. Vet school is expensive. You're paying for services from a professional... This is just the reality of it. All four of my dogs also have health insurance so I'm prepared for the unexpected. It's not a facility's fault if you cannot afford to take care of your pet. I also have a parrot that I take to VCA Wakefield where there is an avian specialist. All in all, I trust the VCA with all of my animals, and you should give them a try if you're looking for somewhere to go. read more

VCA Everett is amazing! However, last night they went out of their way to help us! Our dog escaped and got hit by a car when while we were at my in-laws in Maryland! Thank g-d he just has a bruised hip but it could have been much worse! However, VCA kept me calm when I called freaking out for Murphy's records! This place is pretty solid. I brought my cat in to have several teeth removed. The surgery went well, and while the bill was high, it wasn't as high as it could have been. Initially, the vet tech tried to sell me additional services that were unwanted. When I explained there was only so much I could afford regarding dental work, she backed down. I have the feeling that you have to know what services aren't needed to keep the costs down. Regardless, my cat came home and was fine the next day. I spoke with a friend who is a vet about giving my cat medication the night after the dental surgery. He was already so loopy so I chose not to and am glad I did. He finally started to settle down and act like himself. He was hungry as soon as he got home and was fine with eating. I know it's because the clinic did a really good job taking care of my cat, and that is all that matters. On the two occasions I brought my cats in, the clinic called me the next day to make sure all was well. I appreciate the service and in general how nice everyone is. read more

Everyone at VCA Everett was amazing. After a horrible experience with another vet this morning, I called looking for a same day appointment. Janet and Vernice were able to squeeze us in to a cancellation and assist in getting records from the previous clinic. Dr. De Vivero was great! He was so thorough with my dog's medical records and exam and suggested new seizure medications with less negative side effects. It was such a pleasant experience for me and my dog. We took our 3 y/o dog for her annual visit with Dr. Mazzola and I can't say enough about our experience. We had a rough last visit at our former vets office where we had to wait over 2.5 hours to be seen. This caused a lot of stress and anxiety for our dog and we were overcharged for blood work that wasn't able to be completed. Our appointment this morning at Everett Animal Hospital went SO smoothly and Dr. Mazzola and all the staff were very kind, soothing and understanding with our anxious dog. We were in and out in under an hour and the visit bill was a fraction of the bill from our former vet. I highly recommend Dr. Mazzola and Everett Animal Hospital! read more

They take consideration of what you think is wrong with your pet as well. They are so gentle with animals as well, they will never force anything harshly into or on an animal. We arrived at 11:20 for our dogs appointment which was set for 11:30. Prior to our arrival, we called an hour before to double check the time for the appointment. The woman on the phone verified that it was at 11:30. When we got to the hospital, we checked in and were told to sit in the waiting area which only had one person at the time. Time goes by and more people come in and it's already 11:45... our problem was not that it was taking to long to be seen, it was that 3 other people were already taken in even though they had come after us. We walked up to the desk to make sure we were checked in correctly and we were told our appointment is not until 5:45. We never changed the time. The woman at the front desk insisted we were wrong and gave unnecessary attitude. I have already been told that the Everett clinic is unreliable, and that I should switch to the Revere pet clinic, but because of location, Everett is just closer. I'm really disappointed in the way we were handled today. We ended up waiting until 12:05 but we ended up having to leave because of work & we couldn't get our dog seen at all. read more

Thank you Dr Matthew for your compassion in treating our cat. The call to check on us the next day made us feel like you cared, and we were not just a number. You made time for us even on a busy day with no openings. Your patience in answering all our questions put our minds at ease for his treatment plan. We felt you had the best interest of getting him better in mind. But at the same time was also respectful of the financial side of the house. The prices here are much better then the "big name" hospitals in Boston. A procedure here to remove the fluid from the chest cavity of my cat with CHF was $185. The hospital in Woburn estimated $700. Echocardiogram was $400. Other places charge less- maybe $350, but don't let that fool you, then they add other fees like the cardiologists time, so in the end it's close to $700. We have our kitty diagnosed now and on meds. We can only pray he gets out of heart failure and can live comfortably with his new med regimen. I've been bringing my dog here for nearly 13 years. We saw Dr. Dan a few times and then it was known as Wholepet before becoming the VCA Everett Animal Hospital. We've always gotten excellent care and have never had anyone try to sell us anything or pressure us into unnecessary tests. In fact, now that we have an older dog, they've been very frank with us when discussing our options and whether or not certain procedures would be worth it at this stage. I think their pricing is pretty standard for the area and find their hours convenient. About 4 or 5 years ago, my mother in law had to put down her cat and they were wonderful - very understanding. They whisked her away to a cozy private room as soon as she arrived so she wouldn't have to deal with the waiting room where others might ask questions about the cat, etc. The building is plain, functional and clean - inside and out. They have the usual magazines in the waiting area and even a little kiddie table and chairs with coloring pages to keep the little ones busy. I wouldn't consider going elsewhere. read more

This was the worst experience of my life. The "necessary "physical exam will cost you 73 dollars, and they just touch your pet say everything is well. They even can't find the any problems. If you are 10 minutes late, they will let you wait for 30minutes, then tell you that your appointment already been canceled when you ask. read more

Dr Alyssa and Dr Matthew have been GREAT with our tripod cats, super informative and keenly in touch with their personalities, and unlike prior vets making no judgments or assumptions about our interest in homing the "disabled". Even facing unfortunate terminal news in one case there was no rush to push him out the door, no pressure to use their euthanasia/cremation services, just empathy and sympathy. The offices have recently been renovated and are much nicer and more spacious! I don't want to imply that I'm playing "favorites" as both Doctors we've seen have been great, but Dr Matthew is uniquely animated in his enthusiasm for his animal patients; and Dr Alyssa was incredibly comforting while bearing bad news. I don't know about the rest of the staff but if you get either of them you're in particularly lucky luck! read more

Billing Practices killed this place for me. Being a person who has raised all sorts of breeds of animals in my life, ranging from reptiles, to sugar gliders, I understand what a reasonable bill is considering the services rendered. VCA is definitely over priced. The most recent addition to our family was a kitten rescue found online. Between the usual cocktail of shots and spaying I've already spent upward of 650 dollars. This figure DOES NOT include the follow up appointment needed for boosters. I managed to talk my way into their "Kitten Care" package which is initially 350.00 (include 3 office visits, first rounds of shots...doesn't include medicine and makes the spay operation 199.00 instead of 400.00). Turned out, our rescued kitty had a pretty stout ear mite infection, so we wound up spending 80 bucks on medicine and cleaning. Had we not been able to get into the kitten care package this entire ordeal would have easily crested into the 8-900 dollar range (not so funny meow, is it?). To me, that is just WAY to high for the 'usual" things. This wasn't a special case or anything. Ridiculous pricing aside, the staff was really nice. The vet who initially saw our kitty, while really nice, seemed very new to her profession and almost seemed like she was talking to us like we in grade school....a mix between a first grade teacher and snow white, with a pinch of Lumburg from Office Space with the "yeeeahs" and "mmmhmmmmm's". Not a big deal, just kinda annoying. The more annoying part was when I dropped kitty off for the spay (had there been more time before her first heat to research vets closer and more reasonable, I would have). I had spoke with a nice dude on the phone the day before and was told "Sure no problem, we can put you on the Kitty care plan". I bring Kitty in the next day for drop off and the Vet Tech came in with the estimate (450-550 dollars, we had just spent almost 300 a few days prior for the first round of required shots). I explained to him that I had been put into the package and that his estimate was incorrect. He seemed to have gotten frustrated, disappeared for a bit and came back. He then told me that I was in the package and started to break down the charges, which several of them were already paid for in the previous visit. He got more flustered, and even said "This is I work with animals, they don't talk". At first I was like "WOW, did this russian dude really go there??" Then I thought about it for a second. He's a tech. It's not in his job description to handle billing questions. So i shrugged it off. I told him not to worry with it and I would take it up with customer service when I paid the bill. which I did. We still all in all spent around 650.00 dollars to give a cat shots and remove her lady parts. That's just too steep if you ask me. I'll be going back for the follow up boosters, but after that i'll be researching a new vet that's closer to where I live. If it weren't stupid expensive I would totally come back. But, if the most basic of services cost me half a pay period, I can't imagine what it will be when something serious happens. Seriously, I've replace wheel bearings and brakes in my car for less than what it costs for a Vet to give two shots here. read more

I only went because of the free first visit offer. Let me list all my cons... Lobby: small, dirty, smelled like pee, not much to look at. Receptionist: They seemed very friendly at first but after my visit was done they kept me standing there for 20mins then finally said ok heres your receipt, really? Advice take care of your customers IN FRONT OF YOU first. Exam Room: Floor was covered in dirt and fur!! The table was full of dirty paw prints and slobber stains. My cat was very uncomfortable and hid in the corners because of all the scents and dirtiness in the room. I gave my cat a bath when I came home thats how disgusting it was. When I first started coming here 5 years ago I may have given 4 stars. It seems as time goes on this place puts the financial squeeze on you. I know it's your pet and money should "be no object" but unfortunately it is money, and it is an object that I prefer not to throw around. Just this year alone I have noticed a tremendous push to offer more services right off the bat. Here is my cat example. My cat has a UTI. I bring him in. Exam medicine etc = close to $200. The myriad of suggested services pours in (ultrasound, xray, on and on). I suggest let's just try the medicine since we know it's a UTI due to the bacteria count before worrying about crystals etc. One thing at a time right? They agree, but if you are someone that will pay anything and everything for your pet, This bill for me would have EASILY pushed into the $600+ mark. They wanted me to bring the cat in for a follow up exam to make sure he was ok. I bring him in for the follow up two weeks later and they charge me again for an exam, as well as additional medicine which he did need for inflammation. I now need to bring him back in a week. Guess what? Yep charged AGAIN for an exam visit. The thing that really killed me/ is the week after I got the UTI finalized and done, I get a postcard saying that my cat is three weeks overdue for his rabies shot!!! Now I get to bring him back in AGAIN to get charged AGAIN for another exam, when they could have just given him the rabies shot while I was there one of the other three times in that month. I am really getting tired of this place. Dr. Lightbody is great but even more recently I have noticed that the first thing up for discussion is money and cost of services they feel should be performed. I don't like that. Dr. Berard is even worse, plus when she is talking to you she sounds like she is about to slip into a nerve induced coma. Otherwise the people are really nice here. They finally figured out a way to get the urine smell out of the waiting room. read more

I had a great experience here. My dog had to get a tooth extraction after breaking a tooth and VCA Everett took great care of him. They sent me text updates during his procedure, and called back the next day to check up on him. The people working there are super nice and seem to genuinely love animals. My dog was fine and spunky again after a days' rest following the procedure. read more

Niki DiIeso, Niki has been a patient of the VCA Animal Hospital of Everett since she was six weeks old. She has received nothing but the best of care from everyone at the hosptial. **Update: 03/04/13** While I cannot forget the first experience I had with this veterinary practice, I am forced to revise my review. I will, however, leave the original post up because it did happen and I'm still not pleased about it. This weekend I noticed my dog was urinating orange. Within two hours of seeing this, I was sitting in the doctor's office for my appointment. I was shown to the room within 10 minutes of my appointment (completely reasonable,especially for an emergency visit). The room was very clean. The vet tech was very very kind and treated my bullie with the same respect she treated me. She handled him very gently. The doctor was good about listening to my concerns. He explained what it could be and how he proposed we handle it. He did not sugar-coat anything but did speak to me in a way which helped me relax about the issue. I was given antibiotics and instructed how to get a urine sample. My dog was also due for a physical, which they did since we were there. To me, this was an "added bonus" since he needed his yearly anyway. I am only giving them 4 stars because of the debacle I initially had; however, I will bring my dogs back here. It is convenient and given the quality of care I had this weekend, I trust my dogs with this practice. I should note that the practice reached out to me, but I never responded. I was so angry, hurt, and confused as to how my initial experience could have even happened, there was nothing anyone could say that would change the situation for me. ______________________ As the owner of two English Bulldogs, I am pretty meticulous about the care they receive and the places we take them. Prior to moving to East Boston we lived in Worcester and used the Northboro VCA because they were and are amazing. When we moved I asked for a recommendation and mentioned Everett VCA. They suggested that VCA's are typically better than other vet practices and I would probably like them. Boy. Were they wrong. Upon changing vets, we brought them in for a physical where they tried to override my decision for a particular vaccine that is not necessary but suggested. I had discussed this at length with my other vet and they always understood my position. The Everett VCA was adamant, so I cancelled the appointment. That was around the beginning of 2012. In June of 2012, one of my bullies got a hold of a baseball and possibly ate the entire leather cover off of the outside. In a panic, I called the VCA in Everett to make an appointment. On the phone, the person told me that people "REALLY need to watch their pets more and how could we let this happen". I got off the phone with an appointment for that evening, but I was in shock. Look...you can never watch your kids or your pets 24 hours a day...it's just not possible. We do the best we can, and sometimes, shit happens. We weren't even sure if he ate it, we just knew we could not find it. So, less than 24 hours after we presumed he had eaten it, I bring in my dog. 1. Floors were FILTHY, gross, and had something on them because my bully kept trying to lick the floors. 2. Toe nails from other dogs were strewn about the window sills and in the corners of the room. 3. I was once again told (by the vet tech) that I should have watched my pet more and better. 4. I was given a harrowing story by the same person of another dog who just that weekend ate some stuffing from his toy. For 24 hours the dog seemed fine, but then just that very day I happened to be there, the dog was in for emergency surgery and "...we hope he makes it". The tech goes on..."not that I'm trying to scare you". Oh...No? Then what exactly are you trying to do. I was in enough distress as it was. 5. The tech said, "well...he looks okay". (No shit Sherlock..he looks fine, eating fine, acting fine....that's part of why I'm here...) 6. I was kept waiting for 45 minutes after my 7:00pm appointment. 7. Finally at 7:45 the Vet comes in and said, "well, he looks fine". I then asked for an x-ray. There was concern (and rightfully so) that the leather of the ball would not show up in an x-ray and the only thing an x-ray would tell us is if there was a blockage...so....I should just keep an eye on him. 8. I had to BEG for an x-ray. 9. When my dog came out of the x-ray he was quiet and shaken. I have no idea what they might have said or done to him to get the x-ray done, but whatever it was, it shook him up. Turns out there was no blockage, but we wouldn't have seen that if an x-ray wasn't done. It would have been a couple of days of worry. While we were still unsure if he ate it, if he was passing it, it would be fine. Unprofessional, filthy, dirty place. I will never take my animals there again and plan to either find a new vet in South Boston or take them back to Northboro VCA. If you don't care how you are treated, then fine...this is the place for you. -Tatj read more

I toyed with the idea of giving this place three stars, but finally settled on four. The truth is that the office staff (receptionists and techs) are absolutely amazing. They're understanding and sympathetic and funny and so sweet. I've been taking my animals here for just under a year and I've never had an issue finding an appointment when I need one. I've even come in with fifteen minutes notice and they handled my situation with nothing but ease and empathy. If I was judging this place just on the office staff, they would get five stars. However, the vets are another story. While they're nice enough, they have rarely made me feel at ease. I've now met with them all (except one who isn't there all of the time) and I can wholeheartedly say that the only thing they make me feel is rushed. I don't get the feeling that they care about my animals. In fact, I get the feeling that they only see my animals as a job. Which, technically, they are but I just feel like they should work harder at establishing a more personal bond. I trust their expertise and I don't doubt their ability to treat my animals to the best of their ability. But each and every one of those vets that I have taken my dogs and cat to, SERIOUSLY need to work on their interpersonal skills. This is not a bad place to take your pet. It is clean and the vets are knowledgeable. I am giving it three stars because I felt like the service was only adequate. No one took extra time to help me. For example, when they told me to brush my dog's teeth, all they told me was "get a toothbrush and brush them." When I switched vets, that vets office gave me more tips on how to ease into brushing. Trustworthy, Reliable, and Kind The staff at VCA Everett are all top-notch, from the front line personnel at the desk to the Vet Techs and all the veterinarians. If you're complaining about the costs, you need a reality check, because across the board in Massachusetts, veterinary care, like human care, is very expensive. VCA's pricing is competitive w/Angell Memorial in JP and w/Boston Veterinary Care in the South End (part of Animal Rescue League). They may not be perfect, all the time, but then, who is? You can definitely trust their diagnostic skills and care-taking abilities. read more

I stopped taking my dog here because of the way my dog was treated. He's terribly afraid of men, and when I explained this to the male tech he said "oh it'll be fine" and then basically dragged my dog around instead of allowing me to hold the leash. The actual vet looked at him for all but one minute and then decided that he must be fine. The clinic seems understaffed and all the workers are running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Your animal will not get quality care here. Called to ask about where to purchase vet tape to bandage my dogs paw. Receptionist or vet tech on the phone had me waiting for 10+ minutes, when I finally was able to talk to her she was extremely unprofessional and down right rude. The list goes on. read more

I recently adopted a 5 month of kitten and was given a free first visit to the VCA. I took my kitten in on Friday 10/21. After spending about 5 minutes with my kitten, Dr. Berard decided that his lymph nodes were swollen and he needed bloodwork. I was informed that I would hear the results first thing Saturday morning. When we got home, I took my kitten out of his carrier and he was COVERED in blood! At 6pm on Saturday, I received a message from Dr. Berard to please call back and speak with Dr. Pell as she was out until Tuesday. When I got a hold of Dr. Pell, she spoke to me in such a rude and condescending tone and asked me what it was I wanted. After explaining to her that I needed the results and next steps, she suggested we do a procedure, but could also start on an antibiotic. Why would a procedure be the first course of action? Clearly the VCA is looking for the highest paycheck. She then told me she could not guarantee the medicine would be ready by noon, which would be 3 hours later. I told her I would like my records as I will not be coming back. I did receive a call that the medication was ready. When I arrived, both my records and the medication were not ready. The service and care for my animal that received were unacceptable and inhumane. Do not go here ever! read more

We took our cat to VCA Everett and had a very nice experience! The waiting room was clean and calming for the pets and their administrative staff was helpful and gracious. The technician who took vitals, weight, etc was gentle and calm, in addition to the veterinarian (Dr. Lightbody) who was careful and gentle with our timid cat. She took her time with us and made sure to answer all of our questions and address all of our concerns, which we very much appreciated. I also liked that they had all of their exam and vaccine fees available in each waiting room, and we were willing to draw up fair quotes for specialized procedures. We felt that their prices were very fair considering the area - in fact, we brought our cat to VCA Brookline last year and felt that they were higher priced and not up front about their prices or procedures (I was quoted $600 to clean the cat's teeth!). All in all, I thought VCA Everett was a wonderful practice and I look forward to going back routinely. read more

I have had animals all of my life and have always used a vet in RI where I am originally from. However, for basic shots and such I would come to VCA. However, the way they do business has made me realize that I can't bring my pets there anymore. I have had so many experiences where all they are trying to do is sell you a bunch of tests the animal doesn't need. They care about making money not about the well being of your animal. My dog was urinating frequently and I caught urine to bring in. I figured I was a client there, they could test the urine and see what was going on and then I could make an appointment. They wouldn't even look at the dog's urine without me making an appointment. Now, I understand there could be a million and one things wrong, but I caught the urine and I thought it was reasonable for the vet to check it out, rule out UTI, then bring the dog in---considering I was a client. Nope. We needed to make an appointment before any tests could be done. If they cared about the animal they would have run the test and then let me bring the dog in if it came back negative. This is a place that I have taken all my cats to. . They are a great staff and wonderful doctors. Last week I needed to take my cat Merlin. Came home from work and there was something seriously wrong with him. I called VCa and they were ale to take him. It turned out that he has a urinary blockage. they did blood work, xrays and IV. Then came the time where I needed to transfer him to a hospital. He needed more care. This is were is gets ugly. The place they referred me to was Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital Woburn Ma. the place was a nightmare. I will never take my pet companion to that hospital, But VCA is great read more

Jermaine, Alex and Dr. Berard are all fantastic!! My puppy had not been feeling well the night before and I went in to the office without an appointment. I was able to see the veterinarian within 30 minutes and they were very kind and accommodating. I would highly highly recommend this veterinary clinic!! read more

I have been bringing my dog here for 8 years and really like it. The staff is always very kind and helpful and even know my dog by name since we have been going there for so long. They are a little pricey I think, but I we have not gone anywhere else so it is hard for me to really compare it anywhere else. The facilities are clean and they pretty much keep to their appointment schedules with reasonable wait times. Overall I would recommend VCA Everett to anyone. read more
