Dr. Olga has been seeing my (now 6 year old ) dog, Alaska, for well over a year now and each visit I've brought to her attention that Alaska seemed sick. I've mentioned specifically that she wasn't eating well, she was lethargic, she had diarrhea, and that she seems shakes and seems weak. Each time I've visited I've been told Alaska is fine and am prescribed something and sent on our way. Our last visit was on Wednesday 5/17/23 - during this visit I expressed extreme concern for Alaskas health. She hadn't been eating for several days and because Alaska ate treats from the vet Dr. Olga's response was "don't make something out of nothing" and then suggested blood work and vaccines and sent us on our way ($300 later). Fast forward three days later, Saturday 5/20/23 and Alaska was still not eating and her drinking started to slow. I brought her to a NEW vet and they drew blood and IMMEDIATELY found abnormalities and suggested further tests. Alaska had to stay the night because she wasn't stable - $3,800 later - we found that Alaska has Addisons Disease and almost died. Dr. Olga either ignored the signs or didn't know enough to treat my dog properly... either way, it's not okay. This doctor and this clinic have lost all trust. read more

Got charged $60 for the "office visit" while getting some vaccines. This was a surprise, so I said that it was okay I didn't want a check-up as our dog had already had his annual, just the vaccines, thinking they had misunderstood the visit as an annual check-up. The vet responded "if you wanted that you should have gone to petco." It was super rude - could've just said it was policy and it would have been fine. In addition to this experience, the vet clearly either didn't care or isn't very good. Our dog is missing 4 teeth from a dental cleaning he had done after he was rescued. She didn't even notice that he didn't have these teeth when she checked his teeth out. We were new to the clinic, so I expected the vet to notice and ask about the four missing teeth when doing a check-up if they have not seen the dog before. We didn't fill out anything beforehand or hand over records that indicated his teeth cleaning, so she should have brought it up. My impression is that the vet just wants the money and gets away with it because it's a convenient location for many people. I will not return and regret giving this clinic my business. Last point - we also waited one hour after our appt time to be seen, but I almost forgot to mention this because the rest of the experience was so negative. read more

So I got a puppy with short notice and I needed his vaccines ASAP. I called around and everywhere was booked. I knew what I was getting myself into because I read the reviews. The $70 vet fee was okay because I needed him checked out anyways, but to pay this every 2/3 weeks would be crazy. My issue is the vet said I would get samples of a flee and tick medicine. I got home and realized I was charged $75. I'm the fool here, I should have looked at the bill closely. This is my first time every going to a vet so I thought the price was fair because I had zero reference. I went to a new vet for my dogs next round of shots and i'm so happy. My new vet cut my little mans nails for free and gave him a toy. This place is run down and dirty. Only go if its life or death. read more

Ever since the vet Dr. Sykes left this place has gone down hill tremendously. Dr. Sykes actually gave a crap about the pets he cared for, and the owners. He was patient, caring, understanding, and extremely negotiable with pricing. He'd often take off the initial $60-$80 office visit charge that you're automatically charged with every time you come in for an appointment. He'd regularly take that off. If you didn't have money for medication he always tried to help out as much as he could. The communication, transparency, customer service, and animal care was the best I've ever seen in a vet. Fast forward and few years since he's left, and pretty much all that is gone. The vet is almost impossible to get ahold of. I don't want to hear about how "she's busy" if my primary care doctor (who was also a doctor that worked on the COVID vaccine) can make time to call me back when I leave a message for her, a veterinarian most certainly can. But she rarely calls back when we leave a message, and when she does get back to us it's always through text message, quick 1 word answers. Her communication is also awful, she just comes off like she wants you out of there. She's not lenient or negotiable with pricing at all. In fact, sometimes it feels like she wants you to come back for extra visits because she wants to charge you more. She's just all around cold and unpleasant. Allot of clients/patients that I see there are upset with the service. The regular staff there are good though, the women who work the front desk are great. And they deal with allot of angry people because of how lousy the vet is, so I admire their patients and I try not to take my frustration out on them. The only positive this place has since Dr. Sykes left is that compared to other vets in Boston, this place is cheaper. Which probably makes sense, you get what you pay an all. But as I stated, even though the price tag for each service is inexpensive, it's still expensive in the long run because the vet is trying to nail you with every charge she can. Oh and another negative is that unless your dog has an obvious injury, like a cut, or an obvious sickness, like worms, the vet rarely knows exactly what's bothering your pet. It's always a "we think" and a "maybe" and a "let's just see if this works". Of course then they will try to send you to the other office with the x-Ray and hit you with, take a guess? Another office visit charge!! I see this with many owners that go there. One owner got really mad that he spent all this money and all he got was a bunch of "we thinks" and "maybe"'s. Anyways yea, I'd pay any money to get Dr.Sykes back as he was a legend. As you can see, most of the good reviews on here are from when Dr. Sykes was there. The Google reviews are like that too. Any review with Dr.Sykes name in it is good, no Dr.Sykes and it's mediocre to a bad review. If you don't have much money and no other option this place is at least good for shots. Just make sure you tell them to keep tracked of your records because I've seen them even lose peoples records before. Just all around unprofessional. read more

We are so happy with our first experience with Charlestown Pet Clinic. We spoke with an amazing admin, Mary, who usually works with the Revere branch of Boston Pet Clinics. After going through an absolute nightmare with our local vet, (overpriced, never calling us back with answers to questions, constantly raising prices on meds and procedures last minute, never giving clear estimates on procedures), Mary was able to give us information on every question we asked and easily booked us an appointment for the very next day. I explained our situation to her: Our sweet puppy is bilateral cryptorchid (his testicles are up near his stomach), and every vet we have called was booking months in advance. Our current vet gave us an estimate of $2,800 and told us there was a good possibility it would be well over that price by the end of his surgery. Mary was so kind and empathetic towards us. She found all the information on pricing and was able to give us an exact price range, not exceeding $850 and including meds, a cone and a followup appointment. I was overjoyed. Our puppy would finally be taken care of without us being taken advantage of on pricing. read more

Pretty awful service from Dr. Olga. Brought my cat in for an emergency visit. Little to no conversation or eye contact. Couldn't tell when the appt was over, literally had to ask, as she simply turned around and stopped looking at my cat. Never heard the results of the blood work, that were supposed to be back within "24 hrs" (per the bare minimum spoken word of the Dr during the appt), outside of a text saying, "to get a second opinion" that came 3 days later. Phone calls (4) not returned (even when I was told to, and did call, the Revere clinic where she was working that day (day 3 of no results). Shameful to take people's money with little to no care for their pet and literally no communication even when I initiated contact day after day. My cat, still unable to walk, had to go to Angell where they took care of her promptly and compassionately. Terrible experience. Beware. read more

Dr. Olga really is great. She's knowledgeable, caring, cleared up all of the issues our dog had after we rescued him. The vet techs are good too. But it's an overall bad experience. Our information was wrong in the system so they could never find your records, or forward them if needed and the waiting rooms are tiny and hectic - pets are only seen for 2 hours 1 day per week so everyone is there during a small window and you can wait for an hour and my claims were never ever submitted to insurance, but the bill is always sent on time! My dog had what turned out to be a benign cyst removed, but the lab report said it was "terminal lung disease". Needless to say I had a meltdown and called 10 times to try to find out what to do, if that was even the right report, anything. The person on the phone said, "so why are you calling?" (!!!!) Finally, I got a response, an email that only said, "it might be terminal lung disease or it might not be", with the bill attached. It blew my mind. Now that we're at a different vet, I see how non stressful the experience can be. read more

Brought my puppy Maverick there for his first appointment today and was very happy with my experience. It's a small clinic with a check-in area and two examination rooms. The check-in lady CJ was was very efficient and gave Maverick a warm welcome. Dr. Martin did an amazing job with Maverick and answered all of my questions. The clinic is spotless and very well organized. I know Maverick will be in good hands here moving forward and the pricing is fair and transparent. read more

Mikayla was extremely rude and dismissive with me today because she was unable to handle my dog. I have a rescue who clearly has anxiety and trauma in his past. After he got overly excited about another dog in the other room, they took him cornered him and tried to muzzle him then were surprised when he started to become aggressive. He just needed to be redirected from the other dog and calmed down instead of shoved in a corner while already upset. On top of this she prescribed sedatives without telling me ANYTHING about them. She made me feel like my dog was a monster and would not give him a chance. It's a shame people like this become a vet, people need to understand the trauma a rescue dog usually has gone through. When telling her that my dog was going to the kennel for the weekend and explaining that he has had been around other dogs before she was extremely dismissive in stating "whatever it's your dog". Yes it is is my dog and he will certainly not be returning to you. As a health care worker, bed side manner is pretty important to me and I was appalled by the way this was handled, she could barely even make eye contact with me. He was traumatized for literally hours after this experience. As a Vet I expect them to be able to handle an anxious dog but clearly there was a huge lack of experience. Judging from the other reviews I certainly wouldn't trust this place and regret ever going. I should have listened to my neighborhood dog walker who was very adamant to not recommend this place. read more

Met Dr. Olga for the first time, previously loved Dr. Sikes I believe his name was, sad to hear that he has moved. Dr. Olga was great and looked my dog over, called right away with test results and he is now up-to-date on all his shots. I am awaiting to hear about a quote to remove some fatty tissue cysts that my dog has. CJ, front desk assistant was great and definitely knows her stuff. Would definitely recommend. read more

I had my first appointment with this clinic and it was an awesome experience. I got there a little early and CJ was right there and was immediately friendly with my new puppy. She was so helpful throughout the whole process of the appointment and called ahead of time to make sure I would have all the right information when I got there. I felt very welcomed the whole time and both she and Dr. Martin were both very attentive to my new pup. Dr. Martin was also very helpful and was able to answer all my questions about being a new dog owner. After the first round of vaccinations my new puppy was even following her around like nothing had happened. I'm so happy to have such a great Vet close to where I live and look forward to the next appointment. I highly recommend coming to this clinic. read more

If there was an option for zero stars, this place would get it. We are here working for a few months and Took our dog here for annual checkup, vaccines, and treatment of a wound on her paw. We weren't allowed in with her due to CoVid, which is understandable. My fiancé stood at the door and watched as they did everything right in the hallway, in plain sight. She supposedly had a full annual exam by a vet along with having her paw evaluated and receiving her vaccines despite the fact that a vet never went anywhere near her. They then sent out a bill which was paid and then a feint desk person brought the dog out and walked away. Zero explanation of the issue or treatment, zero contact with a vet. When asked for information, we got not even a telephone conversation with a vet but just a rude, arrogant, vet tech with zero knowledge. He told us they had no idea what was wrong with her paw and "these things just happen with dogs" and while the paw was already on the verge of being infected (hence the reason for the visit) they only gave us an anti inflammatory spray and a no-lick spray and told us to come back it it got worse. When we told them we didn't want the expensive sprays that won't help, they refused refund. We attempted to get more information in person to no avail and called later to no avail. Just rude staff replied that they provided written info and that was good enough. $400 of my life I will never get back again. There are lots of options for vet care in the area, DON'T CHIOSE THIS ONE! I am filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and encourage others to do so. read more

I went recently with my cat, and saw the male vet (I don't recall his name). We were told when we adopted my cat from the MSPCA that he had a number of health problems, including a heart murmur and a fractured canine that needed dental work. The vet we saw at Charlestown Pet Clinic was great at double checking all these problems, and we are so glad he did! It turns out that my cat does not have a heart murmur at all, and that is fractured canine is not problematic - the vet assured us that it would be more painful to take the tooth out, since the fracture doesn't touch the nerve right now. You always hear horror stories of vets telling owners that they *have* to do unnecessary procedures, so I was thankful that the vet was upfront and told us that we did not need the tooth out just yet. He was very friendly with our shy cat, and did all his tests and check ups as quickly as possible (we were in and out in under 10 minutes). It didn't feel rushed however, he was just doing his job very well! Because it was such a quick general exam, we were told that there was no fee too, which was a nice bonus. Will definitely be coming here again! read more

We just saw Dr Sykes again and had a good visit. My cat had blood in his stool, and Dr Sykes promptly sent off a sample for testing, and in the meantime did an exam and gave us some antibiotics to calm down any potential gastro-related issues while we wait for the test results. Dr Sykes is not one for small talk or chit-chat, but was cordial and professional and tried to do his tests as quickly as possible for my nervous cat. The total bill of $105 for the visit, the medication, and the stool sample test I thought was very reasonable. The only reason we didn't give 5 stars this time round was that Dr Sykes didn't remember me or my kitty - that would have been a nice touch as we saw him before! read more

This location doesn't offer the same schedule as some of their other branches (Revere, South Boston, etc) so make sure you call ahead and make an appt. to see Dr. Olga or Dr. Sykes. You will not be disappointed! Non-nonsense, affordable, honest, and expert care. They love your pet just as much as you do. Give them the chance to prove it to you. I have been taking my dogs to the two of them exclusively for the past 10 years and I have NEVER been let down. Just yesterday, I took Tuukka into their location in South Boston, saw Dr. Olga, and got exactly the treatment and advice I (and he) needed. On December 26th I made an appointment to meet with a vet tech to get my puppies stitches out the day prior with their receptionist. Showed up the appointment on time to find the office completely empty and shut down. I waited outside for 30 minutes in complete frustration calling the Revere location for possible answers. The response: we cannot get ahold of anyone from the office! Not only did I waste my money (on 2 Uber's) and time, my poor dog was anxiously crying outside the door with stitches that could've easily been removed if their associates were on time / had any communication amongst their reception and the technicians. Out of curiosity I gave a call back to the office at 11:10 AM to see if anyone at all had shown up to work that day. A woman (I assume veterinary technician said "I am here now if you want to come back in" and we reminded her we had an appointment over 30 minutes ago and she rudely hung up on me! I will NEVER bring my pet to one of these clinics ever again after these stitches are removed. I warn others to STAY AWAY due to such lack of decency for their customers & their pets! Wasting time with our own busy schedules is absolutely not okay & they lacked any sort of sympathy. 0 professionalism. read more

We have two dogs. One's leg was suddenly lame and she was in obvious pain. We called the Charlestown Pet Clinic and they were booked. They told us about the Blue Pearl Animal Hospital also in Charlestown. We went. It was fine but pretty expensive. Our dog tested positive for Lyme disease. We made an appointment with the Charlestown Pet Clinic the next Saturday and were so relieved to meet Dr. Olga! She is so competent she is wonderful! We thank God that we have a Dr. Caring for our dogs who obviously has a God given gift that all the training in the world cannot give. Everyone there is great so friendly and helpful! We had to go to Revere Pet Clinic for x-rays and again another time and everyone there was really nice and friendly and helpful as well! That means a lot to a pet owner at such a difficult time. I do recommend that you know exactly what your pet weighs before going to any Clinic because medication and flea protection dosing depends on the pet's weight! Very important! read more

Had the absolute worst experience when I brought my new puppy here. We had just gotten our pup and he was having trouble eating enough, despite our attempts to find foods that he liked. We only had him for 36 hours. We suspected that our pup had a case of hypoglycemia when he would not accept food and was starting to act wobbly and as if he were in a "drunk state." We brought him in on a Sunday evening and the staff told us we had nothing to worry about, that we probably tried to give him too many kinds of different treats (?) and upset his stomach. Ok fine. We brought him home and the next day he was not any better and in fact even worse in regard to his appetite and mobility. I brought him back to Blue Pearl only because we had already paid a bunch of money for the initial exam fee, and was hoping they would know his case enough to give him proper care. I was wrong. The next day we were met by a doctor who was extremely rude on the phone with us (due to COVID we could not go inside). Refusing to answer questions point blank, and actually stating that our puppy has a neurological issue. This entire time I knew he was probably in a hypoglycemic state and I truly just wanted to take him back home. They said they had to keep him for 24 hours maybe more. When I said absolutely not I will be getting him after the 24 hours that I've already paid $1800+ for, they tried to argue with me and convince me to let him stay for longer to monitor him. I asked about test results and they said he tested negative for hypoglycemia. Not 3 minutes later I got another phone call saying actually he is hypoglycemic. They then said that could be due to a liver shunt or neurological issue. We agreed to a liver shunt test just incase, which came back negative. Could you not consider the fact that maybe the puppy is hypo because he's not been in the same place for more than a few hours and is not comfortable? They tried to get more and more money out of my partner and I for more tests, and it was all clearly a scam effort to get us to pay a ton of money for terrible pet care. We picked up our puppy as soon as we could, brought him home, and fed him and monitored him closely and he was absolutely fine. The practice continued to call us and tell us we should get him checked at a neurologist. No thanks. Our puppy's Vet checked him out at his first puppy check up a few days later and gave him a clean bill of health. Complimented our puppy on how sweet he is etc. Our Vet said there was no sign of neurological issues and no cause for concern. If you've made it this far, just know that this place is not a place I will ever be taking my puppy to again. They used our fragile emotions to try to get more money out of us, messed up test results, and they even one time called us regarding someone else's dog by mistake!! Absolute mess and for an abused amount of money I might add. read more

The staff was super friendly -- especially nurse / assistant / office manager CJ -- and the procedure was swift and without complications. The pup healed up fast and had such a great time at the clinic (really!) that he was super excited to go back for his postsurgical recheck. These folks know and love pets. read more

I would like to thank the staff at Blue Pearl - Charlestown for everything they did for my Rascal this past weekend. Thanks to them, I'm able to still hold my little guy! My dog was in critical condition and I had to emergency rush him to their clinic to try to save him. Upon walking in the door they knew the urgency and took my dog in the back immediately to start treatment on him. Everyone was so warm and compassionate, which was much appreciated knowing the distress I was under thinking I may lose my dog. Kristina at the front desk was so helpful in answering questions to ease my mind. My dog ended up having to stay the weekend, but I'm glad to say he's almost 100% back to normal thanks to everything they did. Dr. Katz was wonderful in explaining all the necessary treatments and giving an estimate of what potentially would be needed. When explaining my financial situation, she was so helpful in determining what was priority for Rascal, and then leaving the decision for further recommended treatment up to me. It was so nice to be kept informed and understand what was happening with my dog, as opposed to other "money hungry" vets you go to who just deliver you a bill, but don't explain diagnosis or anything. Blue Pearl's pricing was very reasonable and I will definitely be using them for any needs going forward. The care Rascal received, alone, is reason enough to return. I have a 5 months old Shiba Inu boy and have been looking for a good vet in the area for a very long time... CJ who attends you at the front was extremely nice and helpful with setting up an appointment. We've previously been patients at a different vet in Brookline, but prices and the corresponding quality weren't coherent with each other. Found this clinic online and am grateful. Very decent pricing policy, our doctor Olga was extremely nice, caring and helpful, she explained everything thoroughly, you can see that she truly cares and loves animals. Furthermore, we really liked that she took her time to explain what would also be the best for us as clients. Their services and price list is also on the website which I found to be amazing. For giardia medicine, some food, 2 vaccines, fleas & tick medication, and a physical exam we've paid around $150, which is waaay more affordable than most clinics like VCA or BVC. Overall, really good experience, highly recommend! read more
