Do not take your pet here . I've had my blessed Palm Chi for 12 years she's been extremely healthy until recently. I took her in last month and the vet did a lab work and said she had hypothyroidism . She prescribed levothyroxine one tablet 0.1 mg twice a day . Trusting her I began the medication she was to return last Wednesday and she did to have the blood drawn to see her level . Wednesday afternoon she began having continual diarrhea vomiting wouldn't drink water I was having to give her Pedialyte and water as it turned out over the next several days by syringe , I called 2 days in a row for the lab results kept being told they haven't come in . I stopped giving her just something told me not to give her any more thyroid so on Friday I did not give her the evening dose Saturday and Sunday I decided not to give her any because she was still having diarrhea I was still having to give her water by syringe and I'd had her on nothing but rice for several days . I went to bed on Saturday night praying what is wrong what do I need to do and I felt inside get up and look up the dosage . Well it's supposed to be dosed 0.1 mg per 10 lb of body weight . My little dog weighs just a couple ounces over 11 lb . She was getting overdosed by almost double what she should be getting and if I had not looked it up and not stop the thyroid it could have killed her . Now I don't know if the vet made the mistake in her prescribing or if in the people in the back who are feeling the prescriptions made the mistake . But it would seem reasonable to me that no medication should go out without that vet having the last look when it was filled to make sure it was filled correctly . And I am sad because I'm retired RN and I generally would have checked but I trusted this vet I figured she had dosed correctly I will never do that again I'll never assume . But what really got me is this morning I called for the lab results that I still haven't gotten now on Monday I started back giving her one in the morning I gave her one yesterday and one this morning because she's improved she's quit the diarrhea she's not vomiting she started eating again and she's drinking on her own . So I reversed the issue with her being overdosed thank God . But the icing on the cake was this morning when I called for the lab results the lady at the desk looked it up and said oh yes they're in they're on her desk but she won't be back till Friday . Now this is a critical new diagnosis and his lab values are critical to know and you would think that if she was going to be out of town that she would have appointed a vet to look at these Labs as soon as they came in and notify me . That's what a caring vet would have done . I will never take my dog back to her or to that clinic again . I will feel refill the medication and give it once a day until I can find a new vet but I am so heartbroken and disgusted at how close I came to losing my dog because of carelessness . I told the lady at the phone that answered the desk what had happened and I got in response I'll put a note in her chart . That's How concerned this Veterinary Hospital is For the first time since last Wednesday she has had a normal BM Pom/chi , voice text doesn't always print what I said Mistakes can happen , but this was a serious mistake and one that I would think if there was any real caring here that I would be contacted and made right I mean truthfully somebody needs to consider the mistake and why it happened was purely not accurate oversight to make sure that the dose for my dog was correct . Because it wasn't in any way . Never being sick never being on any medication and not to see that the normal starting dose would have been 0.1 mg once a day or half of that twice a day . But not 0.1 mg twice a day because it almost killed her . Today's the first fully normal day she's had since last Wednesday and it would have never happened had I not looked at the normal starting dose for her weight and her age and paid attention and I'm sorry I didn't do it the day it was prescribed . But I would have never guessed that that prescription would have gone out the door without the vet verifying before it did that it was the correct order. I do pray going forward that they will make some procedural changes for the safety of All Pets . And if the Vet's going to be out of town turn the responsibility of looking at lab work and notifying the pet owner with another vet especially something critical like just starting a pet on a new medication that has the possibility of the serious ramifications that my dog suffered read more

The incredibly friendly staff made booking an appointment very easy. As a new-to-the-area client I was concerned about finding a new vet and they made the decision to choose VCA Kootenai much less stressful from the get-go. When I arrived at the facility I was welcomed warmly and Duke, my very large, very sweet, 2 year old GSD, was treated with care and kindness. They obviously love their patients and they treated him like one of their own pets. Dr. Reijm was outstanding. Even with the Covid protocols and challenges he never made me feel rushed and took plenty of time to get to know me and my dog, Duke. To top it off it was snowing and he had to stand outside, by my car, talking through the open car window. Even though he must have been freezing he asked tons of questions, listened intently, and really invested time in us. In addition, we were there for some intestinal issues that Duke was having and Dr. Reijm ran every test possible, at my request, and discussed options for us if Duke continued to have issues. He never once "pushed" tests, procedures, special foods or medications. He offered advice and supported our current care of Duke. To top off the great service, after our visit Dr. Reijm personally called me twice to deliver the test results as they came in (even during a holiday week). That is exceptional service. I am extremely impressed and so happy to have found VCA Kootenai and Dr. Reijm. We not only found a new vet for our pup, but we also think we found the best vet and veterinary practice in the PNW. 1st of all let me say that I have been going to the Kootenai animal hospital for over 10 years. I have not seen them be so negligent as they are now. My dog had a tumor and had surgery. The area that they prepped for surgery was shaved so hard that she has a pussie abrasion. When I went in to express my concerns. Doctor Rogers informed me that it was my fault. That I had waited too long. That he did a brilliant surgery on a tumor that most vets would have said put him down. She's a a girl. He didn't even know my animals sex. The arrogance, blaming me and lack of taking responsibility is astounding. If you want a subpar vet experience with a joke of a check-in process and want to be taken for your money. Go here. Otherwise, find somewhere else because ever since they partnered with a corporation (VCA) it is an endless stream of signatures, initials, and then you get to do it all over again on an ipad. Our golden retriever was very lethargic and was drooling profusely. We live in Spokane but heard of this place and were desperate. Once they got us in (they were busy) they examined her very thoroughly. They were gentle with her and understanding with her hysterical mom. We found out she had pancreatitis and they explained what it was and how to take care of her. They answered all of our questions and we didn't feel they overcharged us. We will Definitely use them again even though it's a drive. read more

MASSIVELY OVERCHARGE! Always go to the highest dollar "treatment" and present it like it's the "only" option. When I brought my cat in with a partial blockage urinating I asked for a litter box as soon as I got in the room so they could get a sample and give him something to help pass the blockage. They came back with a $1500-$3000 + overnight charges to sedate and put a catheter in him (worst case generally for a cat with a complete blockage) I told them he's passed them before and he's still able to pee please give him a litter box. So they come back with a $350 charge for x-rays, steroids' and antibiotics, I agreed to do that yet still no litter box and it's been almost 2hrs since I parked in the parking lot waited for 40 mins before getting into a room. The vet came back in after giving him the steroids, tells me she doesn't know how to read x-rays and leaves. I was under the impression I was going to leave when a different vet came in took my cat and left not saying a word, shortly after the other vet came in and told me we got to put a catheter in him to "reset" him as his bladder was "angry" and left... I was perplexed as I had already told them no to the catheter and he was still able to urinate on his own, but she was already gone. While I was in the room next door a couple had brought their dog in for something got blood work done finding the dog has diabetes $630 bill!!! Quick research, national average for bloodwork is $100-$120 even with an $80 emergency extra charge they got the shaft as well! The vets assistant came back in with a new bill for $600+ when I asked why she couldn't give me an answer. After awhile I got my cat back far worse off than before I took him in. I got the x-rays, talked to a couple different vets and researched on my own, confirmed they basically forced the only way to save him now was to pay over $3000 to have a catheter put back in for minimum of 3 days as they inflamed his urethra from the catheter so now he wasn't able to pee at all. Of course they called me the next day "concerned" about him and wanting to see him again to give him the "treatment" (over 50% get another blockage in a month). Both the other Vets said they would have given a day or two after the steroids' to see if he passed it on his own before recommending a more drastic procedure. Unfortunately my cat died 3 days later. The tiny partial blockage was less than 2cm from coming out on the x-ray. These people prey on your emotions and assume your an idiot while only seeing $$$$$$ when you arrive. If I could give less than 1 star I would. read more

Today I had my dog fixed. I've never had to fix one of my male dogs in the past. Don't get me wrong, my pooch is headstrong as all get-out, and It needed to be done, however, it was not the easiest decision for me to make. If anything, it was a little sooner than I would have liked. My mother came with me today for support. She even offered to pay for his procedure, which was more than generous. I visit Idaho every summer, and have been coming to this very veterinary office for years. For the most part, the staff has been very friendly . Today, however, I had the misfortune of dealing with a "less than pleasant," less than professional receptionist/book keeper. An older woman, that enjoys her gossip -amongst her fellow coworkers- within earshot of the customers. That's right, my mother and I overheard your conversation as we were headed out the door. When my mother and I first walked in, my mother took note of this particular woman garing at us; The woman did not say a word to us. I used to work at the animal shelter out on Oahu. I also aided with the in-processing of dogs and cats that were foreign to the Hawaiian soil. If anybody knows about transferring an animal to Hawaii, they understand that it is a strict and tedious process. A process I am quite familiar with. My mother is the type of woman that likes to get a second opinion. So she asked one of the sweet natured ladies behind the desk about the blood work process ( so that the dog I plan to have transferred, does not have to go through the required 90 day quarantine). The blonde haired woman behind the desk was very informational, and very patient. The Other Woman working behind the front desk -the elder woman with the short brown hair and with the less than Pleasant demeanor- personified herself as this- pushy, know-it-all. To me, she came across as annoyed and slightly hotty. I understand what to expect with the Hawaiian domestic animal in-process. I don't need your backhanded, uppity comments about my "lack of knowledge." I understand the expenses; and I also realize that the shots, the records, the paper work, the timing, the signatures, and that the stress is only the tip of the iceberg when shipping a dog to Hawaii ( it's a cruel process and a real pain in the butt). To be honest, I probably have a little better understanding than you do. Not only because I aided with the in filtering an in processing, not only because I have been a resident of Hawaii for years, but also because I have already, personally, transferred three dogs to Hawaii already. One of which came from the Continental US, two of which came from Australia. I understand that my mother wanted a second opinion. I understand that my mother loves to make conversation. What I don't understand is your attitude. I tried to politely dismiss you several times over. And I promise you now, I am not going back to your veterinarian office. Especially, after we heard you gossiping about me and my dog on our way out the door. I'm sure it will be a relief for you to not have to deal with me again. Next summer, when I come to visit, I will find a new vet. Which is a shame, because I have only had Pleasant things to say about this vet's office up until this point. read more

We recently moved to the area and I had used VCA where I used to live. First time I called during the week and got my dog in for an appointment in a couple of days. Second time my other dog needed to be seen and it was on a Sunday so I left an email which they never responded to. I contacted them late on Monday when I didn't hear back from them and they said they hadn't checked there emails and it's not something they are in the habit of checking. I asked what was the best way to contact them on a weekend to get a response and they said by phone. Last weekend my dog was having a hip issue and again it was on a Sunday so I left a voicemail and it's now Wednesday and I still haven't heard back from them. Won't be calling again! read more

I took my little dog in because I thought she was going to have puppies. We saw Dr. Gutter. He did a ultra sound and said he saw two maybe three puppies. He told us to come back in two weeks and they would be able to tell us if it was two or three. Found out today after another x-ray that there are no puppies and probably never were. Went home talked to another dog expert and was told we got overcharged, that either a x-ray or a ultra sound should of been sufficient enough, that both was unnecessary. So not only am I left with no puppies but I had a almost $400 dollar bill. FOR NOTHING. I would never take my dog to this place again. Sent my mother with instructions 1. Find out if she has UTI OR NOT. 2. Express anal gland & trim nails. No temperature no red flags, nothing. $364.00 later they had done x-ray, ultrasound guided test just to get a few drops of urine. NEVER have I seen a vet. Dr. Incapable of squeezing a bladder of a dog needing to pee. Got full sample sent to the lab DR decided without asking that it was my best bang for my buck for EXTREME test just to say if there was an infection or not. Promised results next day. 3 days later I had to call. Tests all negative. Put her on antibiotics with no infection. I will NEVER return. Incompetent. Her Dr. At Ponti veterinary figured it all out via dip test from squeezing bladder for a few drops. They know what they're doing. Avoid Kootenai and unnecessary outrageous bills. Complained to Clinic Manager to no avail. I never authorized the tests, no calls nothing. Very disappointed. I even spoke with the clinic Manager. read more

Miracle Workers! Dr Reijm and the staff at VCA Kootenai worked with me and my Russian Toy dog in a caring compassionate manner at our weekly appointments over a 7-month time period for severely fractured front leg. Everyone was so cheerful and positive towards us AND even were willing to learn a few words in Russian for my dog. (Dog is trained in Russian). Dr Reijm was cautiously optimistic as to whether my dog's leg would even heal. It was a horrible break that was made worse by a Vet in another State and surgery was not an option due to location of the fractures. The bones were slow to heal - delayed union is the technical term - but I followed his instructions to a T and now my little tiny dog is walking on all 4 legs again and doing physical therapy to gain back his muscles in that leg. It is a long journey and a very successful one! I really appreciated that the doctors and staff were "budget conscious" and provide options when they can. Where most vets would simply say "amputate", the doctors at VCA Kootenai said "Lets try to heal that leg". Dr Reijm and Dr Rogers monitored my dog closely and when the last set of xrays showed the bone was healed, I think Dr Reijm and staff were ALMOST as excited and happy as my dog and I! The best way for me to describe VCA Kootenai is simply Miracle Workers. My dog and I will be forever grateful to them all. My dog continues to "visit" VCA Kootenai and Dr Reijm for wellness and vaccine boosters. In fact my dog really likes the Vet Techs who meet us at our car in the parking lot and take him in to his appts. I appreciate the covid safety protocols. After appts Dr Reijm comes out to my car with updates - he takes his time and answers all my questions thoroughly. I feel that Dr Reijm and the staff at VCA Kootenai really do care about my dog and they treat us like family. They accept emergencies without an appointment. It is easy to set an appointment online, receive appointment reminder text messages and e-mails, and view my dog's online patient account too. If you are like me, and consider your pet as a valuable member of your family, then I truly believe you will like VCA Kootenai too. They are easy to find - on Seltice Way in Post Falls Idaho. Ever since VCA stepped in the "care" has gone down hill here. The vets we trusted left and now only inexperienced, incapable, condescending vets work here. Your dog and you will only be a number, and your dog will suffer at their incapable hands. They don't return calls and will treat you like child. Yet in all their arrogance, they are unfamiliar with tick born diseases both acute and chronic. Dr. Williams in particular would have missed the diagnosis in our dog all together if we had not insisted she test. She undertreated and sent our dog into liver failure, in very short. The VCA veterinarians only want to do "bread and butter cases" - she said this! - and they would rather let an animal suffer then trust the professional judgment of another physician who has seen both acute and chronic tickborne diseases in their dogs and cared for them successfully. They would rather send you to specialist costing your more time and money for what should actually be "bread and butter" diagnosing and managing tick born diseases. Dr. Williams was also supposed to look into dosing and starting a pain medicine, Amantidine, for our dog who has a lot of pain from her now chronic tick born disease that she mismanaged in the first place. Dr. Williams NEVER called back with the prescription for this. She is condescending, unprofessional, and does not know how to practice both the art and science of medicine. Her arrogance and inexperience is dangerous. read more

6 years ago I drove all the way from Portland to Idaho due to the excellent reputation and fair prices of this clinic. Dr. Rogers saw my dog, Poppy for what was diagnosed as a joint disease known as OCD. The clinic was very nice and we felt so comfortable leaving Poppy there. It turned out Poppy didn't have the disease we thought he did (3 different vets from 3 hospitals thought he had it). Dr. Rogers didn't charge us for anything but the x-rays, even though Poppy had anesthesia, and was operated on. The Dr. Had opened up both his elbow and shoulder, which took some time. This vet is a seriously good person, an ethical vet. I would recommend him to anyone. I've not forgotten about this experience, it was that positive. read more

Went to this place for the first and last time this week. One word to describe the service: perfunctory. One word to describe the vet: detached. One word to describe the fees: GOUGE!!!!! We actually felt grossly overcharged and misled about the fees for our pet's visit. Staff told us to expect a $200 + bill during the exam, but we were given a $400 + bill upon checking out. There's always that bank phobia that comes with taking your pet to the vet when a problem arises. Today I noticed an infected spot on my pup's paw and immediately knew she'd need to go to the vet. By the time I noticed the spot, it was a couple hours away from closing but I called anyway and they were happy to get us in right then. All of the staff were friendly and helpful and got her checked out. Vet said she would need three weeks of antibiotics but luckily didn't need to make an incision or anything, but I still cringed thinking what this might cost. Walking up to the counter to pay, all anxiety was lifted with a very doable payment of $65 and we were out the door with three weeks of antibiotics and a happy family. Be prepared for a huge bill for a everyday problem. Every time we go there to get my dog checked out for simple allergies we wind up spending $150-$200 for simple medicines that you can get at Walgreens. I've told him time and time again that I have the same medicines at home will continue to give them those medicines and they are adamant that we need the new $50 a month steroids for her allergies. We're changing veterinarians I can't afford half a car payment every month to go and see these people they completely over charge for nominal services. read more
