I cannot say enough nice things about Roberts VCA. We made the switch and have received excellent care for our dog Peter Barker. He has gone in for several vaccine appointments where the techs were so sweet and gentle with my rescued boy. He went in for a dental the other day; the doctor Michelle Politano did a fantastic job cleaning up my boy's teeth.

Isaac - unable to walk independently - must travel in a stroller and use a full body support harness. VCA did this to him via misdiagnosis.

Three weeks ago my dog was walking and hiking 8-10 miles daily. Dr. Marion Patillo assessed him on 10/13 and diagnosed him as having colitis. Not trusting her diagnosis, I rushed Isaac to Angell Medical where he was diagnosed with meningoencephalitis and admitted to the CCU for a week. Now, he is unable to walk, is undergoing intense physical therapy, and has cost over $13,000 in medical bills. To date, VCA has refused to reimburse me for the original charge of $1800 - less a lab test that they lost. Marion Patillo cost my boy his legs and almost his life. Do not trust these people with your beloved pets.

I never write reviews but had to after getting off the phone with Dr Cosman, Veterinarian at Roberts VCA in Hanover. I am so pleased with my experience tonight. My 10 month old mastiff pup gave me quite a scare so I called the nearest animal hospital (VCA Roberts). The woman who answered my call was kind, compassionate and most importantly-helpful! After hearing my concerns she instructed me to bring our pup, who they have never seen before or have any records on, right over to be evaluated. Dr Cosman did the eval which was reassuring that she was not in acute respiratory distress as I had feared. Dr Cosman reviewed with us his findings and discussed options for plan- further work up with labs and X-rays, although lungs clear so not necessarily indicated, or to bring her home for close monitoring with clear parameters of when to have her re-evaluated. He explained everything clearly, validated my initial concerns, listened and provided support and answered my questions. Of course our dogs health is most important but I really appreciate that Dr Cosman did not pressure us in completing a full, and very expensive, work up!! Bonus points- I received follow up call from Dr Cosman later that night to check on Maggie's status. She's doing well and resting. I know what to watch for- thanks to the clear instructions from Dr Cosman. What an excellent team tonight over there a Roberts VCA! Thank you!

I rushed my dog in after hours in terrible condition. The doctor on call had so much knowledge and experience he was able to diagnose the problem immediately and put me and my dog at ease. My thoughts went from the worst to relief in moments. It will take a few weeks but she will be fine. The staff was incredible with me over the phone and when I arrived. They rushed out to the parking lot with a stretcher to help her inside. I saw the doctor right away and got a full explanation of what was happening and why. I can't thank the hospital and staff enough for being so compassionate and caring.

Tux when he was found almost three weeks ago.

Here is my experience: Yellow lab, diarrhea for a week and started vomiting, progressed to having poop accidents in the house and vomiting even when she hadn't ingested anything, which eventually resulted in blood in her vomit. During this progression I was out of town on a business trip and had to fly back and take her to urgent care. Urgent care just pumped her with IV fluids and gave her anti-nausea medication. I provided fecal and bile and they just said "we dont do that here". But, they do X-rays though, thats a good chunk. $750 for xray, fluids, prescription, and no actual resolution. They just straight band-aid the problem and send you on your way with nothing. I asked them "Why aren't you prescribing antibiotics?" They said "We don't see anything that would suggest she needs it." I was absolutely dumbfounded. Moving on 1.5 weeks later after doing everything they suggested, pills and blande diet, she is right back to where she started. We called them back and asked for a refill of the anti-nausea prescription and they're telling us "No, you have to bring her back in." Everything about this place screams money grab. DO NOT GO HERE. TAKE YOUR PET UP THE STREET TO WILLARD VET. Its a little more expensive but they get the job done, get it done right, and get it done the first time.

Dr. Estes explained everything clearly--what was happening, the prognosis, and what we should do next. The techs / nurses--Kim Nguyen, Kendra Baker, and Jennifer Ducharme--were also wonderful: professional, patient, and very caring. They were attentive throughout the entire process while our Pomeranian was undergoing sedation, and you could tell they genuinely cared. I'm sure they see situations like this every day, but they still treated our dog with the attention and care he needed. Small things like that matter. These are clearly very capable people who could work in many different fields--including human medicine--but they choose to care for pets, and it shows. I would absolutely recommend this clinic and would return again if needed. My one tip: call ahead so they can prepare for your arrival.

My husband brought our cat in on May 27 and waited from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m., yet only one test was performed and no diagnosis, treatment plan, or meaningful care was provided. The next day, I returned and was presented with nearly $5,000 in additional tests. Initially, I was told the ultrasound specialist was unavailable until the following day. After I declined some of the recommended testing, I was suddenly told the specialist was available immediately and the ultrasound could be done right away, which raised concerns about the necessity of the recommendations. Staff repeatedly discussed the possibility of cancer and even chemotherapy for pets (my cat is 11 month old), which put me under significant emotional pressure. I agreed to a biopsy, but afterward I was told to go home and wait for a call that never came. My husband later had difficulty getting our cat discharged, and we did not leave until around 11 p.m. No veterinarian discussed the results or treatment plan with us, no medication was provided that night, and our cat came home in worse condition than when we arrived. The lack of communication, questionable recommendations, and poor patient care made this an extremely stressful and expensive experience. I cannot recommend this hospital based on our experience. AVOID this place.

My last visit would sadly be my last as my family made the difficult and painful decision to put him down. Its taken me a little over a week to write something but I know I wanted to tell everyone about this location. They even managed to entertain him with some classical music when he was a little yappy! He lived a long, happy spoiled life. I miss him everyday. My first pet out of high school, we were almost never apart. I think that knowing he was in the best possible hands near the end helped take some of my guilt grief away. Every single person was amazing and I just know that profession cannot be easy. God, my sister and I cried for hours and we were never rushed. Dr.Silverstone, thank you for always being straight with us but also extremely professional and kind. They contract out to help with end of life arrangements and cremation, if you choose. 'epaws' or something. The arrangements were done quickly but not so quickly that you worry about disrespect, you know? A week later and I have his urn and we've set up a memorial in the house for him. No one wants to think about these things but pricing is transparent and gotten out of the way quickly. And yes, it's pricy but what isn't? This is emergency care. Get pet insurance!!!! Honestly, I would have gone bankrupt if it helped but there is unfortunately a limit to things that can be treated and the doctor said it best: "age is not a disease". So hopefully your fur babies live long, happy lives and that you only have to go for minor inconveniences but if you do have an emergency, this location was clean, professional and fairly easy to get to. I had broken my ankle last year so walking has been a challenge but I got around just fine, even carrying around my 20lb lump of love. Thank you all again. I don't know when I'll be ready for another pet but I don't regret all the years of love. We didn't have time to stick around for the final decision, but I do hope it did recover. The staff there was really friendly, thanked us for being good Samaritans, and had us fill out a form. They recognize there needs to be improvements to the customer experience, while still protecting their employees from customers that lack and amount of human politeness and can be aggressively rude and threatening. Whereas I didn't experience that during this visit, I am well aware that there are humans that are less than humane when it comes to treating other humans. No amount of pain for our pet does not justify behaving unkindly to the staff that goes out of their way, overworked, understaffed and more than likely underpaid, to care for you beloved companion. Many people don't understand either that the venture capital greedy monopoly veterinarian care system puts enormous pressure on veterinary care to sell services and control the out of control emotional costs for care that is not necessarily covered by pet care (and is worse if you don't have it). It is EXPENSIVE. And coverage leaves a lot to the imagination. Pet ownership comes with many caveats and that is one of them. But that is NOT THE EMPLOYEES at the front, fault. They DONT set the cost. They DONT set the standard for care or the protocols. They are there to greet you, tend to you baby, take the payment and dispense the medication the VET sends to the pharma. I have no doubt that with their attention to Customer and Client experience, they will figure it out! In the meantime, thank GOODNESS, our Lulu is getting better every day! I'm trying to find the right words to adequately praise Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital…read more(MVRH), its staff, and Dr. Kelly Larabee, an Emergency Physician whose compassion and professionalism made an extraordinarily difficult day more bearable. While traveling from northern New Hampshire to Boston, we stopped in Woburn and discovered that one of our very elderly dogs could no longer get out of the car on her own. When she finally did, her rear legs collapsed beneath her. In addition to the weakness in her hind legs, she was breathing rapidly and drooling excessively. As a longtime dog owner, I recognized the look in her eyes immediately--the look that says, "It's time." Fortunately, we were less than a mile from Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital, a Level 1, 24-hour emergency and specialty veterinary hospital. We arrived without an appointment and were met by a team that was immediately welcoming, compassionate, and remarkably efficient. It was clear from the moment we walked through the door that MVRH has built a system of care designed to deliver expert treatment with both urgency and empathy. Our dog was promptly brought into the treatment area and made comfortable. Shortly thereafter, we met Dr. Kelly Larabee, whose kindness, professionalism, and genuine concern were evident from our first conversation. Dr. Larabee confirmed what we had feared but already suspected--that the time had come for our beloved companion to cross the rainbow bridge peacefully. Dr. Larabee and her team brought an extraordinary degree of humanity to veterinary emergency medicine. They treated our dog with dignity, tenderness, and respect, as though she were a member of their own family. During one of the most difficult moments a pet owner can experience, they provided not only exceptional medical care but also comfort and compassion for us. I am not sure the average pet owner--or member of the public--fully appreciates the expertise, systems of care, and operational excellence that make an institution like Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital function so effectively. Having spent much of my career in process engineering, I was deeply impressed by both the efficiency of their operations and the quality of care they delivered. Every aspect of our experience reflected a well-designed system staffed by highly skilled professionals who never lost sight of the human and emotional side of their work. Dr. Larabee and the entire MVRH team were as compassionate as they were capable, and as caring as they were efficient. Their professionalism and humanity turned a heartbreaking day into one marked by dignity, peace, and gratitude. We would all be fortunate to receive the same standard of care in human medicine.
