One may complain that they have a limited menu options but freshly prepared food outweighs that. All menu items are priced dirt cheap (as per bay area standards) and it seems to compensate they have self-serve service. Its not a fancy place where knife & fork are wrapped in napkin but food there will definitely remind you of home! If you are foodie and enjoy Indian (vegetarian) food. You must try this place as they serve authentic Indian food and not the "Orange Gunk" that you are served elsewhere under the name of Indian food. The food is amazing, and very affordable. wife and I get take out from here like twice a month and have been ordering from here for the last 2 years or so and we have never been dissapointed. The strip mall it is in has a poppeyes, a indian bazzar, a liquor store... basically you don't expect to find a great place like this. the inside of the restaurant isn't much to look at, but we don't mind because the take out is awesome! Best INDIAN FOOD EVER. The prices are so cheap and the food is absolutely amazing. My favorite is the Samosa Chat. The woman at the counter is extremely kind and nice as well. They have a perfect blend of spices in each dish that they have. Mango lassi's are also absolutely delicious and cheap! The place is slightly hidden on sonoma boulevard but once you find it you will not regret going there. All of the food is vegetarian and they even have Indian sweets that they make fresh each day. I would say this is probably one of the best and underated places in Vallejo to get quick, fast, and cheap meals. On the one hand, I'd like to keep this place all to myself and other the hand, I'd love to see this place succeed in the 'jo. I've driven all the way to Berkeley many times (Vik's) when right here in my own backyard, there's a viable competitor. Sure, there's no meat (yippee for vegetarians) but I've not been disappointed in the food and am ecstatic at the (very, very) affordable prices. So far I've had the samosas, the dal makhni, and the bhature cholle. The bhature is a bit chewier/thicker than Vik's but holds up better in the pickle dipping and filling. I plan to slowly work my way through the entire menu. I only wish they would use paper plates and biodegradable utensils but if they get more business, perhaps we could make it more green. Yahoooooo! I haven't had Indian food in a long time and I had the sudden craving for it. It was satisfied. You can't beat the prices. I paid $7.30 for Chana saag with rice and a samosa the size of my first. The Chana saag served as two meals for me since they give you so much. So good. And I love that it's vegetarian for those days of lent when I can't have meat. The mango lassi is super creamy and sweet. I have to resist. Also, the interior is like any classic eatery. You pay and order up front and sit wherever, minimal decoration. Great food, I love curry and masala but their Khadi Pakora Curry and Paneer Masala are delicious. The Khadi Pakora Curry is like a fried dumpling loaded with spices and drenched in curry sauce. Came here for the first time tonight and man I was so surprised there was actually good food in Vallejo, especially good vegetarian Indian food! We ordered the veg korma (which was my favorite) and the Aloo saag with the 2 piece samosa chaat and a side of naan, all were so good but could have been a little spicier for me which I will be requesting on my next visit where I can't wait to have the vegi biryani (only served weekends). The samosas were spicy enough but a little doughy and rich for me however my husband loved them. All of this food for about $20.00, enough for 2 adults to have 2 servings at dinner and 1serving each of leftover's for lunch. Although the food was very good, I have to give this place the lowest rating because of the exhorbinant amount of trash they produce, and the worst kind of all - styrofoam. There were two of us and we were served with 9 pieces of styrofoam and plastic spoons, all of it destined straight for the trash. Nothing recyclable. I was mortified! Do they not know how bad stryrofoam is for the environment or is it that they just don't care? So bad it's been banned in cities like San Francisco and Oakland and most businesses know better than to use this nasty stuff. Best chaat in the area. Vallejo isn't known for having an eclectic food scene, so you can imagine how happy I was to discover Vaishnu Express Cafe. The prices are extremely reasonable (as if one was in the fatherland) while the layout of the restaurant small and cozy. I always enjoy the aloo paratha and aloo tikka. Coming from Southern California, I didn't know what to expect here. It's a really low-key joint with minimal, if not zero, decorations. First off, the lady at the counter was super nice and helpful. Second, the vegetarian food is so tasty and flavorful that it's hard to believe it's vegetarian. We ordered the aloo saag (vegan), pani puri, samosas, and mango lassi. Sidenote, the sauce that comes with the samosas is on point! I could put that on anything and it would make everything taste amazing. Third, the prices are more than solid. Mango lassi is, on average, 2.50-3.50 in SoCal. It was like 1.75 here for a decently big one and it was one of the best tasting mango lassis I've had! Score! The pani puri was such a good choice and the chickpeas it came with were so good! Man, I would love to have this restaurant closer because the food is amazing. read more
