When he told MedVet he could not afford to keep the cat there, they discharged her 'against medical advice,' charged him $400, and called the state and reported our family for 'cruelty to animals'. Horrible experience. Extortion and unethical.

From that first appointment through to May 29, 2025--when Choo Choo passed away peacefully in his sleep--Dr. Boostrom, Zachary, and the entire team showed us nothing but kindness, compassion, and true dedication. I want to sincerely thank Dr. Boostrom and everyone in the office for the incredible care they provided these past couple of years. I'm so grateful that thanks to all their work and expertise, we were able to have those extra years with Choo Choo--years filled with love and memories I'll always cherish. Everyone at this office is genuinely kind and clearly devoted to what they do. They always treated Choo Choo with patience and gentle care--even though he was an anxious little guy (though the Trazodone probably helped, too!). It meant so much to see him feel calmer here than he did at most other places. If you're reading this and trying to decide which veterinary oncologist to choose for your pet, I 100% recommend Dr. Boostrom's office. Dr. Boostrom and Zachary were incredible to work with, and I truly can't thank them--and the whole team--enough for everything they did for us. Thank you all so much.

I unfortunately had to take two pets to the ER on two separate occasions and the staff is compassionate and very very accommodating. I called this practice and they immediately connected me with a vet to talk through her symptoms. They suggested I bring her in just to be safe. When I arrived, I was checked in right away and even offered a drink or snack. A doctor quickly came out to make sure nothing was urgent, and after about a 20-30 minute wait we did a full exam. The team was so patient and kind--consulting with each other, keeping me with my dog the whole time, and making sure she was comfortable throughout. Thankfully it ended up being full anal glands and some irritation. They took care of it and gave me guidance on meds (which I already had on hand). Checkout was the biggest surprise: only $205, which feels incredibly reasonable for Northern Virginia. The clinic was clean, organized, and calm, and it was obvious the pets there were genuinely cared for (even the ones in cones having a rough day). For a stressful night, this place made it a really good experience.

VEG-ER is the best…read more Eariler this week one evening, we had to take our Siamese boy, Pablo, to VEG-ER not long before midnight. You know you've heard that if your indoor-outdoor cat who always comes home one day doesn't come home one day, something has happened. Well, it's true. Usually, Pablo (a.k.a. Bunky) comes back within minutes after being let out, but this day was different. We looked for him and looked for him, but came up empty-handed. Pablo has an AirTag and, curiously, it showed he was on our property. Finally, he appeared around 10:00pm at the back door. We were relieved, but noticed he had wounds on his hind legs. Because of our excellent experience we had last year with VEG-ER, we brought Pablo here. Pablo received top-shelf compassionate treatment from the VEG-ER staff, each of whom has a heart of gold. I really admire, respect and appreciate people that devote their lives to the care of pets. They're a blessing. We were told Pablo did not experience an animal attack, but maybe got stuck on a fence, and slipped. Pablo is home recovering now, getting stronger by the day. We basically live in the woods, and realize fully now that it is just too dangerous here to let him outside unsupervised anymore..

We've been to many pet ERs/urgent cares in the 8 years we've lived in NoVa and this the only hospital where we spoke to a doctor within a few minutes of walking in the door. They were thorough, took time to explain our treatment/testing options and answer questions, and made us feel like Norman's care mattered even when more severe emergency cases came in. At VEG, you can see everything, stay with your pet, watch their treatment, and staff are readily available to talk to or answer questions. That alone eased so much anxiety. Kenzie, one of the nurses that was assigned to Norman, was so kind. It was clear that everyone in the room cared about making these animals feel comfortable. More than one nurse came over to introduce themselves when we were preparing to leave Norman overnight. They offered us a room where we could stay with him if we wanted, and even asked what he liked to watch on TV to create a comfortable environment for him after we let them know he suffers from separation anxiety. The discharge and follow-up notes were also incredibly detailed, which made following up with our primary vet so much easier. No one ever wants to bring their animal to an ER, but this is now the only place we will go when we need urgent medical care. A HUGE thank you to everyone at VEG Alexandria for taking such good care of our dog!

My sister and I had been…read moretaking our pup to Dr. Adkins for a few years for dry eye disease...but I'd never met her face to face. When our dog got diagnosed with diabetes I took him in since I was worried about the potential eyesight loss that comes from that and she basically told me in very similar words: "if the diabetes doesn't get him the dry eye disease will". And left it at that, with the expectation that our 2 minute conversation would suffice. When I pressed with questions, I also learned that she had in her clinician notes that our dog had been basically blind in the left eye for last 3 years but had never told us that. We were only told over the years that he had "scarring" in left eye but never informed that meant he could not see at all. And one of the worst things, she was happy to tell us she can fit us in for pre-op whenever our dog does get cataracts (due to the diabetes). BUT never told us she doesn't actually do the surgery herself, or at hope center. So even if your pet did need emergency surgery, while hope center can do the pre-op, they will not be doing the eye surgery. It was very misleading the way she told me that and I only learned later that she doesn't even do the surgeries. I was heartbroken at seeing a doctor behave with such little empathy. Please avoid this doctor if you can, there are other local opthamologists that actually care about your pet that you should go to instead.

We initially loved taking our doodles to get groomed here when Jina was the owner but they've…read morechanged ownership since then and we've decided to part ways with Pretty Paws. There have been several changes implemented due to new ownership: 1) They no longer have cage free grooming and they put our dogs into kennels while they wait for us to pick them back up 2) Prices have gone up about 2-3 times due to the rise of inflation which is understandable but wanted to share to other dog owners for awareness 3) They use an assembly line process for grooming which is faster so our large dogs are typically in and out within ~2 hours Although our doodles typically came out well groomed for the most part, they both began to dread coming in and felt more anxious than usual, which wasn't a good sign to us. Additionally, the new front desk staff (male) could work on his customer service etiquette as he has came off as condescending multiple times to both myself and my husband regarding the care of our dogs. Our other friends who also brought their dogs here have shared similar sentiments. This is not their fault, but the location can be challenging to get to during traffic hours (they close at 4PM Monday through Saturday) since it's right on 50 and a lot of cars are going out west.

I have been going here for over 6 years - I found the post I originally made about this place…read more WELL. 5 stars no longer applies. I moved away to NY for 6 months and when I came back I went straight to the same groomers my Pup had been to since he was a puppy. I called to make my usual appointment and was asked To resubmit veterinary information again in a rude manner. Then when I arrived I was greeted by a new face at the desk. A man who said he was hired to do everything the right way unlike "before". Yet when I Asked if they were under new Ownership the man said, "NO" Here are my following reasons for their 1 Star- 1. New ownership Yet the man at front desk outright told Me ownership did not change. WHY LIE About the switch? 2. Price- increased and they even charged me. Handling fee bc they said my Dog was unmanageable, yet, the previous owners LOVED HIM. 3.customer service- new guy upfront-He was unprofessional and unpleasant. I shouldn't have left my dog especially because I felt Something was off with this man's energy. But I summed it up to maybe he was having an Off" Day. He was just rude and unkind, unlike previous owners. He would go on and on about how he was there from out of state bc his mom was unwell so I also felt bad for him, but I was also on a tight schedule. I just found this to be extremely unprofessional. Get this- I tried something new with my pup for the first time and had his tail Colored ( safely of course bc this is practically my Son). The man comments- he's not a fan of Color but to each their own. That owners who dye their dogs should do their research on how bad it is for their pets... uh really? I just ignored his unwarranted opinion but was quite upset by it. 4. going to trust myself and my pups initial reaction when picking him up. He use to love Going to the groomers and now he's terrified. 5. I paid extra for teeth cleaning which I could tell was not done and they did not trim his dewclaws which was previously always cut. At pick up, even though I was trying to get out of there as much as my dog was, the man proceeded to lecture me about taking care of my dog at home, so that he is not so matted, and that is why they had to shave him all the way at this point, I was so traumatized I just wanted to get the heck out of there, so I just paid and left as unhappy as my pup was. Oh and before I could finish paying the man asked if I was going to tip bc it is customary... really!?! I'm in the service industry I'm well aware... Never going Back - sad about the changes!
