    Triage area
    Cheryl M.

The staff of all women were very accommodating and knowledgeable. They have an open floor triage area and individual rooms if you and your pet need it. They were friendly to our pit bull and played with her to get her to relax and become comfortable. We called before we came and told them what was going on. They took our information over the phone and were ready when we arrived. It was late at night when we brought our pet in. They took her immediately and began a routine examination to determine what was causing her distress. We got some of the answers we needed and will follow up with our vet in the morning but when we left our pet was fine and they gave us instructions on how to move forward. I would recommend them in the event of an emergency and can't get to your veterinarian.

Mango with his toy they sent home with him.

I am so grateful for the care this emergency vet gave my cat, Mango. From the moment we arrived, the staff was incredibly friendly, attentive, and genuinely caring. It was clear they truly cared about Mango and his comfort, not just treating him as another case. The facility was very clean and calm, which helped during such a stressful time. Mango was given a comfortable bed in his cage and everything possible was done to keep him as comfortable as he could be. The team was also very efficient while still taking the time to communicate and reassure us. I couldn't have asked for better care for my cat during an emergency and highly recommend this vet to anyone needing urgent care for their pet. They even sent us home with a little goody bag including this lovely toy!

My dog's paw bandaged up after she tore a nail off the quick, replete with holiday decorations.

I have been blessed with pets for most of the four decades I have lived here. As such I have been to multiple emergency animal hospitals in the area. I've had good experiences at most and great experiences at a few. VEG blew them away, hands down. Firstly, their intake procedure is very quick because they assume people want to get their pets treated ASAP. Secondly, they took us back to a large examination room where everything was done. No taking my dog away to draw blood. I got to stay with her - and she has separation anxiety - the whole time. I was also allowed to help as much as I wanted. Which was a lot. My dog is my registered Emotional Support Animal so me staying with her was extremely important. And let me tell you, Dr. Boyer and vet techs Ray and Amber were angels. So compassionate, so gentle with my dog, and so understanding of my emotional state. I cannot recommend these people highly enough. They're brilliant. And look: my doggie's bandage has a reindeer on it.

I want to add a huge thank you to Veg/ER for Pets right there at South Park Mall! Everywhere we called was booked up or had 4-5 hour waits, this place took us right in let me, Eryne and Landon go back w her to a triage area. Let us stay w her while she got a shot for pain, and another shot to knock her out before they took her! They was prompt, quick and I loved all the staff!! There's a manager on duty that is always coming around checking on you and for what all they had to do I don't think their price was unreasonable ! I have been to other after hours pet ERs and they make you sit in car and won't even let you inside the building .

Fergie ready to cross over Rainbow Bridge
    Charlie Z.

In my unfortunate journey to cross Fergie over the Rainbow Bridge, I did a lot of inquiries . Some were reasonable, some were ridiculous & greedy money gougers but Thank God I found the right one. Veg ER for Pets. They are open 24/7 , local in the Southpark area of Charlotte & were kind , considerate & gentle in this journey. Death is hard enough but when one has to purposely do it to something one Loves, it is much much harder.. . Anyway I cannot say enough about Veg ER for pets. ..

    Entrance

I came here on a Sunday afternoon with my dog who ate a corn cob I chose them after I called around to a number of places in north Charlotte and everyone was slammed and another place recommended them. The staff were sooo nice upon entering. I have a reactive dog who doesn't do great in stressful situations or around other dogs. There isn't really a dedicated private space upon entering if you have a reactive dog. So if you're like us beware... upon telling them about her reactivity they let us stay in our car and did check in with us outside to minimize her stress which I so appreciated! For it being a Sunday afternoon I think they got to us as fast as they could being that it was a a time sensitive issue. I was out in about 2 hours and they quickly induced vomiting to prevent the obstruction. When leaving they helped me navigate my reactive dog out the back door so it wouldn't stress anyone out. I only wish they had more private rooms and spaces!

    Carolina Veterinary Specialists Matthews

I cannot say enough good things about my experience with Carolina Veterinary Specialists Matthews,…read moreparticularly their Oncology and Surgery teams. I was originally referred to CVS Matthews by my primary veterinarian, Dr. Zack Yasin; he specifically recommended Dr. McFadden and Dr. Parfitt when my 10-year-old dog, Henley, began needing Oncology care in July 2025. Dr. McFadden has overseen Henley's primary oncology care, and I have been incredibly grateful for her thoughtful, measured approach. Henley began developing mast cell tumors (MCTs), and Dr. McFadden clearly walked me through all of our options, including various types of chemotherapy, without ever making me feel pressured to pursue treatment before I was comfortable doing so. We initially chose a more conservative surgical approach and only moved forward with chemotherapy after Henley developed five MCTs over the course of approximately one year. We began chemo (vinblastine with prednisone) in July 2026. Dr. Parfitt and Dr. Estebrooks have also been wonderful while administering Henley's chemotherapy treatments. She has tolerated treatment extremely well, and most encouragingly, her most recent subcutaneous MCT can no longer even be palpated since starting chemo. Throughout the process, I have felt like Henley is being carefully monitored as an individual patient rather than simply being put through a standardized treatment protocol. I also have to recognize Dr. Annemarieke de Vlaming and the Surgery team. She performed a complex vulvoplasty on Henley that both removed an MCT and corrected her hooded vulva. It was not a simple procedure, and I was extremely pleased with both the surgical outcome and Henley's recovery. My primary veterinarian has also commented on how well the procedure was done. One thing I especially appreciate about CVS Matthews is the collaboration between specialties, as well as with Henley's primary veterinarian. When your dog has multiple complicated medical issues, having Oncology and Surgery available within the same specialty hospital provides an enormous amount of reassurance. They also proactively send Henley's treatment records to her primary veterinarian after each chemotherapy session to keep him informed and involved in her care. The front desk staff also deserves special recognition. Everyone I have interacted with has been consistently kind, courteous, and helpful, which makes a difference when you are walking into a specialty veterinary hospital already worried about your pet. I have not personally used CVS Matthews for emergency veterinary care, so I can only speak to my experiences with their Oncology and Surgery departments. Both have been exceptional. Entrusting a beloved dog to specialists for cancer treatment and complex surgery is never easy, but I have tremendous confidence in Henley's team and am incredibly grateful for the care she has received here.

He went blind. It was a 100$ deposit then. I swore I would never go to them again. In 2018 or so another dog of mine had a similar injury and I had him seen after hours at Urgent Vet in Ft Mill. He recovered nicely and kept his sight. So last night I tried to go back to Urgent Vet and have my Collie seen but they had another dog in front and told me to go to CVS to get hom stabilized as he was losing fluids . I didn't know they had opened a location in Rock Hill. It is very hidden back off Dave Lyle. So I called for directions from Target. The girl answering the phone seemed annoyed when I told her I couldn't find them. Mind you, this was about 9:30pm. When I get there she is behind the desk on the computer and or her cell acting as if I am interrupting her. My dog was bleeding and wrapped in a blanket in my arms. Dead weight and breathing hard. Noone offered to even open the door. I observed a stretcher to the left in the door entrance but my hands were full obviously. Not to mention I am trying to emotionally hold myself together. That receptionist did absolutely nothing. Not even call for assistance. Again, it appeared all about money. They took the 200$ deposit, I told them I suspected a blockage of some sort. At least 40 minutes went by and the Dr. comes in basically regurgitates what I told them I suspected as their diagnosis. No x-rays, no bloodwork, no tests of any kind. Just visual and manual observations. According to the invoice they gave him glucose, hydromorphone fluids pcv...$373.90. They probably googled the symptoms simultaneously telling me that they need 3-4 grand. According ordinary to the tech they had not even stabilized him. They ask me if I called poison control & gave me number. Dr. wanted to keep him overnight, I asked for a breakdown of charges. Basically, it was going to be 3-4 grand just to 'explore' with no guarantee he would survive. Suggested euthanasia. The doctor said I was rude because I wanted a breakdown of the charges, prognosis... Plus my tone was reflecting how disrespected I felt by the intake person who was snippy dense and uninterested and focused on her phone? So much so she didn't seem to know what a pecan was? I am the one paying as in customer, I am the one who should be shown r-e-s-p-e-c-t. I said I would take him to the primary vet in the morning. They basically covered their asses by having me sign a waiver that he may pass in 24-48 hours. More concerned about liability and image than you or your pet. I was going to wait to see a real vet Saturday morning if he survived the night. He did not. Rock Hill just seems to attract these chains, franchise businesses of all sorts who only care about the bottom line. And then they are referred by the locals for after hours care. A good, CAPABLE, Professional, reputable vet should think twice about doing that. They are capitalizing on the short supply of just that. So it seems Urgent Vet, Petfolks and Healthy Pets are the only good choices. Btw, no need to contact me CVS. This was my experience and my opinion. Either do better or deal with the consequences. That is known as accountability. I hope noone else has to endure such callous treatment.

No stones/crystals. What should have been done was a test of his urine for a UTI-I asked for that before the X-ray but it was never addressed until AFTER the overpriced X-ray. We went to our animal hospital Sept. 2 when the problems returned & he had an ultrasound, urine rest & was put on meds for a UTI. She never stated that vestibular disease was treatable and didn't offer any options at all while my husband and I were under great shock and pressure over what we had witnessed. Because of the stress we were under and only gave us 5 minutes to make a decision that our decision was a mistake. Upon doing research after returning home I found out that vestibular disease is treatable and many old dogs recover very well.
