Brought my Beagle to VEG ER for Pets.
Frankye J.

My dog was throwing up a lot of saliva so I took him to be seen at Banisfield his X-rays were taken ($345) and blood test for possible infection ($367) but because they couldn't see what it was (unbelievable) we had to go to a more specialized hospital type get further help. I took him to VEG ER Hospital for pets. The staff is very knowledgeable and provide top tier in caring for my pet. They couldn't tell exactly what he swallowed but it was small and they could keep him overnight to observe for $1200 I said I can do that at home. I was charged $31 for pills to stop diarrhea in which he did not suffer from. I was also given 4 cans of dog food for diarrhea. I took my dog and prayed that he pooped whatever he swallowed and he is fine now. However, I did witness several emergency situations and saw that the staff is highly skilled!

Triage area
Cheryl M.

The staff of all women were very accommodating and knowledgeable. They have an open floor triage area and individual rooms if you and your pet need it. They were friendly to our pit bull and played with her to get her to relax and become comfortable. We called before we came and told them what was going on. They took our information over the phone and were ready when we arrived. It was late at night when we brought our pet in. They took her immediately and began a routine examination to determine what was causing her distress. We got some of the answers we needed and will follow up with our vet in the morning but when we left our pet was fine and they gave us instructions on how to move forward. I would recommend them in the event of an emergency and can't get to your veterinarian.

My dog's paw bandaged up after she tore a nail off the quick, replete with holiday decorations.

I have been blessed with pets for most of the four decades I have lived here. As such I have been to multiple emergency animal hospitals in the area. I've had good experiences at most and great experiences at a few. VEG blew them away, hands down. Firstly, their intake procedure is very quick because they assume people want to get their pets treated ASAP. Secondly, they took us back to a large examination room where everything was done. No taking my dog away to draw blood. I got to stay with her - and she has separation anxiety - the whole time. I was also allowed to help as much as I wanted. Which was a lot. My dog is my registered Emotional Support Animal so me staying with her was extremely important. And let me tell you, Dr. Boyer and vet techs Ray and Amber were angels. So compassionate, so gentle with my dog, and so understanding of my emotional state. I cannot recommend these people highly enough. They're brilliant. And look: my doggie's bandage has a reindeer on it.

Fergie ready to cross over Rainbow Bridge
Charlie Z.

In my unfortunate journey to cross Fergie over the Rainbow Bridge, I did a lot of inquiries . Some were reasonable, some were ridiculous & greedy money gougers but Thank God I found the right one. Veg ER for Pets. They are open 24/7 , local in the Southpark area of Charlotte & were kind , considerate & gentle in this journey. Death is hard enough but when one has to purposely do it to something one Loves, it is much much harder.. . Anyway I cannot say enough about Veg ER for pets. ..

Entrance
Ingrid J.

I came here on a Sunday afternoon with my dog who ate a corn cob I chose them after I called around to a number of places in north Charlotte and everyone was slammed and another place recommended them. The staff were sooo nice upon entering. I have a reactive dog who doesn't do great in stressful situations or around other dogs. There isn't really a dedicated private space upon entering if you have a reactive dog. So if you're like us beware... upon telling them about her reactivity they let us stay in our car and did check in with us outside to minimize her stress which I so appreciated! For it being a Sunday afternoon I think they got to us as fast as they could being that it was a a time sensitive issue. I was out in about 2 hours and they quickly induced vomiting to prevent the obstruction. When leaving they helped me navigate my reactive dog out the back door so it wouldn't stress anyone out. I only wish they had more private rooms and spaces!

I cannot express enough gratitude to this team. My dog got bitten by another dog and required 13 stitches. It truly was one of the worst days of my life, my dog is my whole world. The team was deeply empathic and was incredibly detailed with explaining every little thing my dog would experience for her procedures and how I needed to care for her, and I've never felt more cared for in any medical facility - animal or human. I especially want to shout out nurse Elizabeth for her kindness. VEG Charlotte Team, I know what an emotional toll this sort of work takes, and I am deeply grateful for each of you. Thank you.

The correspondence from the vets was consistent, detailed, informed and warm. Every staff member that I had the pleasure to interact with was extremely kind, knowledgeable, truly seemed like they liked being at work and cared about what they were doing. My cats resting on my bed tonight because of the work that these professionals did, I cant give a better recommendation than that. Thank you for everything.

By far the worst experience at a vet location. Arrived here as a "transfer" from their Rock Hill…read morelocation after my Dalmatian had experienced a seizure or similar event. While we could not determine what happened to him earlier in the day we agreed 24 hour monitoring and additional tests were needed as a mass was discovered during his physical exam. When I arrived, the Charlotte location had no clue or backstory of why I was there. After re-explaining the situation and expecting to drop my dog off for monitoring and additional tests, I proceeded to wait for 3 hours and never spoke to a vet. After subjecting myself and my dog to 7 hours in a small exam room, I decided it was best to get him home and find somewhere else to continue treatment. For what its worth, the first location was $370 for a physical exam, minimal blood panel for electrolyte levels and minor things, as well as some sort of low level ultrasound which was not sophisticated to determine what the mass was the vet found in the physical exam. I want to add that I'm sure there were other emergencies going on and I'm empathetic and understanding that other animals needed care and not just my own. The lack of communication between locations and their inability to essentially transfer him as it was explained to me was very frustrating. Considering I did not see a vet in the three hours I was there, I did not have much confidence that my dog would actually be monitored very well.

When we arrived, Stella was very weak and near the end. As soon as we pulled into the parking lot, staff members immediately came outside to help carry her in so she wouldn't suffer any more than she already was. That simple act of kindness meant more to us than they probably realize. They were also able to keep her comfortable long enough for our family to say our goodbyes, which we will always be grateful for. During the entire process, everyone we encountered--from the receptionists to the technicians to the doctors--was compassionate, patient, and incredibly caring. I'm not someone who typically writes reviews, but when you are faced with something this heartbreaking, the way people treat you truly matters. The entire team treated Stella and our family with dignity and compassion, and they made us feel like Stella mattered just as much to them as she did to us. Thank you for going above and beyond during one of the most difficult moments a pet family can experience. We will always appreciate the kindness you showed to Stella and to us.

CVS sent us back home with our cat while he had a 105 degree fever without really suggesting that he stay to be monitored. The vet at CVS mentioned that he could have FIP and said they would not prescribe meds to treat it until the lab results got back (4 days at the earliest bc it was a long weekend), assuring us that he would be okay through the weekend. He was getting worse so we took him back and wanted to keep him there the next night overnight, but there was no vet on call to care for him, and the vet did not seem to think that transferring him elsewhere was necessary. Our cat died later that night from a seizure at a different ER who had just diagnosed him with FIP and planned to start treatment. While CVS is not the only vet at fault here, I was highly highly disappointed in their lack of urgency for our cat as well as their lack of knowledge concerning FIP. I would not take your cat here because it does not seem like they have a great understanding of when a cat is stable enough to go home. For comparison, by the time we got to the urgent care, they were alarmed that any vet would let him out of their sight until his fever had reduced substantially for 24 hours. My biggest regret is not taking him to a more knowledgable and careful ER as soon as they sent us home with him the first time.

Tamela graciously apologized as soon as she came from the back explaining that reception hadn't arrived while we waited. We hadn't even waited that long. She even left a long voicemail and happily repeated the info when I returned the call without listening to my voicemail as soon as I saw I missed it. Also very easy location off 77! I picked this place solely because I didn't want to go into Charlotte and I am glad I did.

Dr parker and her team took in my 16 month old Shiba who had been in the birth process for roughly 13 hours at that point. they made me feel welcome, listened to what the situation was, and formed a plan. they did some blood work listened to her body, checked the other puppies just to make sure they were good, and performed an ultrasound. The last puppy was there, heart beating... just waiting to be delivered. calcium was low, they administered fluids and calcium via IV... we waited.. started a course of Oxytocin... nothing and finally decided that a c-section was required... momma and puppies are doing well! I told Dr. Parker, and im telling you, they changed my opinion of emergency vet care! expensive? yikes yes! worth it? absolutely! would i use their services uf needed? absolutely! they made me feel welcome as part of the process, they took excellent care of both momma and babies and they were happy to help no matter what! thats why 5 stars!!

We brought our cat to this emergency hospital immediately after we saw him swallow a fabric hair…read moretie. We called straight away, explained that we had directly witnessed the ingestion, and were told to come in immediately so vomiting could be induced. We followed those instructions, yet we waited almost six hours before our cat was finally seen at approximately 3:30 a.m. During the wait, we were told the team was extremely busy handling euthanasia cases. We understand that an emergency hospital must prioritize the most critical patients, but we were deeply concerned that a confirmed foreign-object ingestion was allowed to wait for so long without treatment, reassessment, or clear communication about the increasing risks. By the time our cat was examined, vomiting was no longer offered. We were instead told that inducing vomiting "doesn't really work for cats," which directly contradicted the advice we had received on the phone. After being confined to his carrier for almost six hours in a stressful emergency hospital environment, our cat became extremely distressed and had to be anesthetized so he could be examined. An X-ray was performed, and we were told that something was visible in his stomach, but the team could not determine whether it was food or the hair tie. We paid approximately $750 and were sent home without a clear diagnosis, a confirmed resolution, or a meaningful follow-up plan, despite having directly witnessed him swallowing the object. For the next six weeks, we monitored our cat closely and lived with the fear that he could develop a serious or life-threatening intestinal blockage. He eventually vomited the hair tie completely intact, confirming that it had remained in his stomach the entire time. We are incredibly relieved that our cat survived this experience, but we are deeply disappointed by how his case was handled. We came immediately because we were told the object could be removed through induced vomiting, yet the prolonged wait meant that opportunity was lost. Because the ingestion was witnessed, our cat was already under anesthesia, and something was visible in his stomach, we do not understand why additional imaging, endoscopy, removal, or referral to another facility was not discussed. Our cat was left at risk of a potentially fatal obstruction after we followed the hospital's instructions and sought immediate care. We left with a large bill, no definitive answer, and six weeks of unnecessary fear and possible discomfort for our cat. This experience was unacceptable. We hope the hospital seriously reviews how confirmed foreign-object ingestions are triaged, how delays are communicated, and how diagnostic and treatment options are presented to pet owners.
