This Pet Emergency Hospital is by far the BEST! I didn't want to delay in writing this review. Our dog wound up in the emergency room at 3 this morning. We phoned ahead and spoke to Jackie who took the number for the ASPCA Poison Control and by the time we got there they had already called Poison Control regarding our case and they were ready to treat Winkie. My husband just said it best, we were treated like family. We were able to go inside with Winkie, which put all of us at ease. EVERYONE there treated us with such kindness and compassion and the care Winkie received was exceptional! He is home now and expected to make a full recovery! We want to express our sincere gratitude to the wonderful doctors - Dr. Brianna Mcguigan and Dr. Zach Schmauch who treated Winkie with the BEST care, the wonderful Nurses - Jackie, Jess, Nikki Veronica and Nick, and the wonderful staff Michelle, Jennifer & Ashley (if I forgot any names please know everyone there is WONDERFULLY kind and caring!). Our dog Adonis was rough playing running with his ball and hurt his leg. We have been to several other emergency hospitals in the past with our other animals on long island and would not return to any of them due to the horrible treatment and care. We knew we definitely had to try a new place and went on the internet and discovered this facility in Commack. Very close to our house, in Northport. From the initial phone call we thought MAYBE we finally found a great place. The girl that answered the phone was very friendly and put us on the phone with Dr. Donavan to discuss our pets issue. They are also very transparent with upfront pricing and do not skate around the issue when you ask about fees. We registered on line to bring in Adonis on Sunday. When we arrived the girls were so friendly and warm it was a pleasure. They treated Adonis who is not always the friendliest with such care. We decided to wait in our car instead of waiting in the facility until it was our turn. The receptionist called us to let us know the Dr. was setting a broken leg on a dog and might be a while. She asked us if we wanted any water or needed anything. WE KNEW RIGHT THEN WE FOUND OUR PLACE. They respected our time by keeping us posted. We didn't care that we had to wait. The communication was great and we actually didn't even wait that long. 20 minutes later she called on our cell phone and we went in. They put us in a room with no table just a bench. Dr. Donovan came in with her assistant. Both beautiful people. The Dr. asked us to put Adonis down and her and her assistant got on the floor to make him feel comfortable and then examining him. Yes, on the floor. The service here is spectacular. Every girl at the front desk was professional and caring. Dr. Donavan is a sweet heart. We were not hit over the head with any exorbitant bill and paid exactly what we were quoted over the phone. This is the best animal hospital on the Island. We are grateful we have a place that we will always go to and feel good about in case of an emergency with our dog. I took my 9 month old pitbull here today because he broke my sisters necklace off of her and swallowed the cross. I called on my way in and, because he had to be treated before he started digesting it in order to avoid anything extremely harmful, they took him in right away. Within 20 minutes of pulling up to VEG, they had Turbo throw up the cross without harm and had me all ready and checked out to leave! They're reasonably prices, everyone was so sweet and caring and truly showed compassion for Turbo and myself and they work in a very timely and professional manner. Animal hospitals are a huge fear of mine due to past experiences but I could go on forever talking about how great of an experience i had here. Let me just say if you love your dog avoid this place at all costs. I'm leaving out the part where this location was responsible for my dogs death back in July because of incompetent drs who take no responsibility for their actions but none the less they sure as hell gave us a close call this afternoon with our newest dog (a 7month old puppy no less) who now after proper and attentive medical treatment is healing. Did you know if a dog looks stable, that they are? I guess that means if a human doesn't look like they have cancer then they must not either. Our dog presented with a cough this afternoon, and because their rooms were apparently all full my mom had to wait outside in the parking lot in the rain where after vitals were taken she was told she'd only have to wait a half hour for a room to be open and be seen. An hour in, I went in to see what the hold up was and was met with one of the rudest employees I've ever met. A red headed female who told me and I quote "the rooms are filled with actual sick dogs, fern is stable, you can keep waiting or find some place else." Excuse me?! I can find some place else?! What happened to first do no harm?! So, because unlike this practice we don't give up on animals we took her to another well known emergency vet and by the time we got her there she could barely breath because she was coughing so badly. The diagnosis? Severe kennel cough, but she was stable? The arrogance and sheer ignorance of your practice and the people who work in it are a reason why I will never return and will tell those I love with animals to not return. If they were so badly filled to capacity maybe tell us that from the start? The real kicker? When we got our fur baby to the other emergency er, they weren't surprised when we told them we were turned away by this joke of a practice! DO BETTER! I only wished I'd gotten the name of the red head I spoke too, maybe she needs to learn some customer service etiquette! Our Havanese was limping on New Years Eve. Was referred to VEG by our regular vet whose office was closed. Wow - so grateful to learn of this 24-7 emergency hospital. Check in by link via text was so easy. Kelly, the Assistant Manager, was warm and helpful answering questions about the practice. Once inside, loved the open concept, you can see everything and everyone working together. It made for a very different kind of emergency experience overall where in past personal experience, the most stressful moments are the minutes waiting in an empty hospital room alone holding a hurt dog. I went in asking for an x-ray but Dr Neuer did such an amazingly thorough physical exam beforehand, she discovered the cause for the limping and the xray was unnecessary. How about that. read more

My overall experience at VEG was positive! Everyone was so welcoming and helpful. I trimmed one of my dog's nails too short and it wouldn't stop bleeding. This was the only ER clinic able to see me. Once I arrived I was swiftly checked in and immediately saw the veterinarian. She took care of the quick that I nicked and the vet tech trimmed the rest of his nails for me. When our 13 y.o. cat Meow started having trouble breathing, our vet advised us to rush her to emergency care... and we found VEG. Unlike other veterinary emergency practices, here you can see what is going on and remain with your pet the whole time. Meow was immediately stabilized with oxygen. It was a complex diagnosis, a difficult and scary process, but the VEG staff treated us -and Meow- with skill, honesty and compassion throughout the whole ordeal. Dr. Nicole Delivo was the angel who saved Meow's life. We will never be able to thank her enough. But it doesn't end here. Days later, we were having trouble to refill a critical medication for Meow. Even though Meow was no longer her patient, Dr. Delivo found a pharmacy that carried the medication for us and sent them Meow's prescription. read more

Saw three different vets, each of which were caring and compassionate. Ultimately had to put my poor sweet baby down. The compassion from the staff was so comforting. My 12 year old cat had a really scary kidney disease flare up Dec 2022. My regular vet recommended I bring him here. I was a complete wreck, but the staff handled both me and my cat so well- and my cat is a lunatic with vets. I was visiting him there for 3 full days and met several different doctors and vet techs and they were all very competent and skilled. They let pet parents stay at long as they want, open 24/7, you can touch and comfort your pet. Yes the bill was huge, but that's why I have pet insurance. I cant praise the staff at VEG enough!!! Brought my Bernese mountain dog there late evening Friday and they made It their priority to make sure my needs and dogs needs were met with nothing more than compassion and honesty. The doctors were upfront from the beginning on what needed to be done, in order for my dog to come home. I trusted them more than ever. My dog was held for two nights and had surgery unfortunately but I knew leaving that location my pup was in amazing hands. The staff updated me daily and even allowed visits. Each visit, the staff was there 100 percent for my family. I truly can't thank them enough for what they did for my dog. Hopefully, no more emergencies but if there ever is! I unfortunately had to bring my dog to VEG. Before I left the house, I called them up to see what the process was, they took all my information over the phone and told me to call when I arrive. Called them when I showed up and they took my dog right away and was seen by the vet tech for vitals, history and what was going on. Shortly after the Vet came in and recommended what to do but did not pressure me or make me feel like I was doing the wrong thing. Everything was explained to me with what they did, what medication I was given and the break down of the bill, which wasn't bad for an emergency vet. Definitely recommend VEG for all your needs. My dog Jasper had been attacked by another dog and was in bad shape and I had heard good things about this place. On my initial phone call the girl on the phone was so nice. First of all the place is immaculately clean and the first thing that you can't help but notice is unlike every other vets where you sit in a waiting room while they take your pet to the back and you don't know what's going on while you worry here you see everything and what 100% comes across is how much they care about your pet and how professionally run this place is. From the first person who came to take our information and the second person who took his vitals and then the vet and her assistant who worked on Jasper EVERYONE WAS SO KIND AND REASSURING. Last night, our perfectly healthy dog, Simba a 10 year old German Shepherd died after having surgery performed by Dr. Mario Acosta (Veterinary Emergency in Commack, NY) who initially gave us false hope. Simba was seemingly diagnosed with bloat earlier in the day and his stomach was decompressed (at Veterinary Emergency in Carle Place). Look at the photo which was after coming out of the procedure. We were told that he was in great condition and a perfect candidate for the procedure. Unfortunately, later in the night the family received calls from Dr. Diana Rice (Commack) informing us that Simba's heart had stopped several times. How could a perfectly healthy dog with strong vital signs make a turn for the worst? We believe that he was misdiagnosed and the other alternatives should have been suggested. This does not make sense and appears that money was a major factor. The perplexity of bloat in dogs is understood, however this can easily be misdiagnosed. It appears that was easier to slice Simba open than to attempt to take the time to determine what was probably an upset stomach. He was not sick, he had been playing and did not fall under the symptoms of bloat! When Simba went into cardiac arrest (7 times), the technicians and the night shift receptionist were compassionate while fulfilling their duties. Dr. Diana Rice appeared to do her job to the best of her ability but as for compassion, she missed the mark. I brought my puppy here after an accidental fall late at night. The receptionist, tech, and vet were all incredibly kind and gentle with my little guy. I was very impressed by the professional and sterile environment as well as the care he received. It's nice to know that there is somewhere open 24 hours that offers premium care. That comes with a price ($170 emergency fee), but I was happy to pay it for peace of mind. The staff at VEG consistently provides exemplary service. Sadly, a beloved four legged friend of 20+ years suffered a medical emergency and my family and I had to made a difficult and selfless decision. Dr. Rice and the staff at VEG made us feel special (even though there were many other families experiencing the same emergency type of situations). The level of care, empathy and attention my family received from Dr. Rice and the team was amazing in all aspects. From the time we were greeted we were treated with compassion and service. Unfortunately, I did not get the name of the young woman that admitted us at the front desk but, she consoled my partner and I throughout our visit and ensured that our cat Princess was memorialized in a memorable and meaningful manner. She was truly a gift and an angel (keep in mind its days before Christmas and I just lost my pet so I have every right to be a little over the top). I have called The Veterinary Emergency Group several times with questions in the past and have found them very helpful on the phone. Today I needed them in person. My seven year old chihuahua was in pain and, with a history of pancreatitis that almost killed him, I needed to make sure he wasn't moving into a danger zone before I could get him to his regular vets. I asked them to do what was necessary to rule out anything life threatening, but that I would be taking him to his regular vets tomorrow so anything that could wait his regular vets would tend to then. He was seen by two vets after the first wanted to confirm her findings with a second opinion and both vets were of like minds. They explained to me their diagnosis and gave me literature to educate me on his condition, then advised me as to what would constitute a need to seek veterinary help before tomorrow's regular vet appointment should his condition worsen. They sent him home with pain medication to manage his condition until his regular vets could treat him. Unlike another veterinary emergency place I've been to, I never felt pressured to do tests that could wait and they kept the cost of today's visit within a reasonable amount for such a visit. The vets and vet techs all were courteous and pleasant, and I was impressed by their facility. It is small but well managed, clean, and made good use of its space with all the advanced equipment I could see. I was able to stay with my dog the entire time and keep him calm. I will certainly use them again if I need emergency services and do recommend them. read more

There's a doctor there with long curly blonde/reddish hair who will make you feel like your a bad dog owner. She so keen on making you look stupid that she failed to thoroughly examine my dog for fleas. My dog was wailing after less than 24hrs from visiting their office. She implied that my home was the cause. An hour later my dogs eyes swell up and I find the flea on my dog. This all happened less than 24 hrs after our visit and I was told to pay the exam fee again after spending almost $400. Not one of my dogs issues are resolved. read more

On the phone when we said we arrived the woman said "okay we'll be out in 2 seconds." Fifteen minutes passed and nobody came out. You think when you hear the phrase "dying animal" you would rush to come save it. This place clearly did not care enough to save this animal's life. What a disappointment. The doctors and techs at this practice very clearly love animals, and act accordingly when one's beloved pet is in need. Our little guy saw Dr. Haake last night, and she was both compassionate and thorough. This stands in contrast to the larger emergency practice we took our dog to, where the medical decisions were driven by an interview with us and very little time spent with our dog. Our dog Nobu was acting lethargic for two days. However he was eating and drinking so we were watchful. He did not leave his bed, he did not accept treats or play. However, late on Sunday night when all vets' offices were closed, he made some yelping noises and was frozen into place on the floor. We immediately became concerned that he was in pain. We called our vet's office and got message referring us to 24 hour Veterinary Emergency Group in Commack. We called and were able to speak on phone to Dr. Matt. He listened as we described symptoms There was no pressure to bring him in but we decided to bring him in.It was a very positive experience and we recommend VEG highly .Dr Matt was wonderful, the vet tech was wonderful and the receptionist was wonderful. Dr Matt examined Nobu thoroughly and watched him walk. When he pressed one area on his back, Nobu reacted. Dr. Matt believes it may be a back injury, such as a sprain/muscle spasm. He offered several different treatment options and explained each in detail. We chose the option of pain medication and non steroidal anti- inflammatory. He advised us to see our regular vet in five days and of course, to observe our dog. We were able to sleep that night with knowledge that Nobu did not have any serious life- threatening illnesses. We recommend this emergency facility highly. Also we found the fees to be in range of normal vet prices. Their priority was the animal, not the money.We were very impressed with Dr Matt and the whole facility. read more
