Loudoun Urgent Vet - My sick boy feeling a lot better thanks to Loudoun Urgent Vet

Unfortunately, due to unforeseen complications, we had to make the heartbreaking decision to put him down. Throughout this incredibly difficult time, the doctor was clear, honest, and compassionate in her guidance, helping us understand the situation and make an informed decision with empathy and respect. We never felt rushed or pressured. Every single staff member at LUV treated us and our pet with deep kindness, patience, and genuine care. Their compassion and support made an extremely painful experience a little easier to bear, and we are truly grateful for the dignity and love they showed our beloved companion during his final moments. We sincerely appreciate the care and humanity shown by the entire LUV team.

I want to be clear in my review and say I met some truly delightful people at this facility and I'm…read moresure they do good work but my experience was truly terrible. The ladies at the front desk are wonder. Super kind and courteous. My dog is in the middle of health crisis... my vet and I have formulated a plan we're both comfortable & confident with where she gets her core treatments at their office and there is some home care treatment. I ran into a relatively simple issue (her port for fluids had clearly slipped) and that required the assistance of a tech to help correct. Because this facility was open after hours my vet had suggested I go see them. When I arrived the first thing I was met with was inappropriate questions about the plan my vet & I put in place for dog. I was lectured on the dangers of providing care for my dog at home, and ultimately she didn't correct the simple issue I originally went in for. I'm sure the vet had the best of intentions but she knew nothing about me, my background, and my experience. And quite frankly I didn't feel compelled to give this woman my resume or list of credentials. Given that my dog is under close supervision by our vet (who has MANY YEARS of experience she does not); her attempts to impugn his decision & abilities (and quite frankly mine) were unprofessional, inappropriate, and completely unacceptable. My advice is simply this... you're an urgent care, address the immediate problem someone needs, don't question the decision of another veterinarian when you clearly don't know what went into making those decisions; and check your personal biases and opinions at the door. I paid $180 simply to be lectured and judged; and my sweet girl never received the care I went looking for- that was extremely frustrating. So I visited my vet first this morning and got my baby squared away. Wishing Loudoun Urgent Vet many years of success, this was one experience and while it was disappointing it won't deter me from going back if I absolutely need. I hope my next visit, whenever that might be, is better.

No call back so we showed up just before closing at 6. We were asked to take a seat and wait! It took over 8 hours to administer a single rabies shot AND SHE HAD NOT BEEN TREATED WHEN WE ARRIVED! When we finally left she was anxious and frazzled. I know I would be upset if I were locked in a cage for 8 hours and ignored for 8 hours! Keep in mind that my dog is a 12 year old Golden Retriever (she's basically like a 90 year old human). The bill for a rabies shot was $146!! At 6 pm, they presented me with a treatment plan for all kinds of unnecessary stuff for a senior dog as they were closing for the evening. They had 8 hours to call me to sell me on unnecessary medical procedures but there was no communication attempt and out calls were not returned. I will not use Banfield Pet Hospital again.

But then I called corporate and confirmed new pet means new pet, not new family. So I called back and explained and they booked the appointment. I asked if they had a doctor with experience with this breed (newfoundland) and they said yes and booked me with that doctor. Later when I met the doctor I get the feeling her experience is she's seen one or two before. Sigh. They did do a nice sales pitch about the wellness plan... which I decided I would consider once I saw how the visit went. I was there for routine puppy stuff, mostly... except for the concern about the shape of his shoulders. The vet wasn't able to articulate anything other than "he's growing" and she basically downplayed my concern. She talked slowly, but despite taking a long time (no wonder she was late to our appointment) she still left out important stuff. I went ahead and paid for the shots - but what cost me $30 I could have done myself with shots from Tractor Supply (anyone can buy them and give them) for less than $10. They did not discuss that my dog has goopy poop, they did not suggest a fecal sample. They should have. As I have had my dog for nearly 2 weeks now I am convinced he worms. Deworming stuff is also available at Tractor Supply for cheap and from what I have read it doesn't hurt them to be wormed even if they don't have worms...so I suppose that I'll be picking some of that up today. I was concerned about eye discharge and she said she needed to do an eye stain to make sure there wasn't an injury. I said that would be odd since it's the same redness and same discharge in both eyes, but she insisted. $44 later and she agreed with me. No injury. And then she... offered nothing except to anecdotally explain it is allergy season (every season is allergy season in VA). She told me to "call back" if it didn't go away on it's own. Grrr.... So my free visit was $78. And I got... $10 of VALUE! Oh - on my way out I realized I never asked about food. I said to the girl checking me out that I had concerns about food, I asked if they could call me since I knew she was late for her next appointment. SURE! No problem, I was told. Days later - still nothing. I called back and left a message. Again, I was told no problem, that she could call me. So today I called the manager and explained I no longer care about the answer but that I was disgusted that in days I could not get a call back. I'll be taking the advice of random web sites and facebook pages... of course, the doctor didn't seem all that credible (though she was very nice) anyway. Anyway - skip the coupon, it doesn't have value. As you can see, despite my $78 free visit and the time I spent making and going to the appointment, I'm still getting advice from the internet and buying medical supplies at Tractor Supply and playing vet all on my own.... because... I suppose I care more than she does.

During my time as a member, my dog's vaccinations were mishandled on multiple occasions: she received double doses and incorrect vaccines. This is a serious medical error that should never happen at any vet practice. Beyond the medical mistakes, my dog was visibly terrified every single visit -- a sign the staff wasn't handling her with appropriate care. The final straw: when I applied to adopt a cat through a rescue organization, Banfield reported that I was not a fit pet parent. This, despite the fact that I was literally locked into a contract with them and had no choice but to continue using their services. I was paying $80/month and they used that relationship to undermine my character as a pet owner. I would strongly caution anyone against signing a Wellness Plan without reading every line of the cancellation policy. And if your pet is showing fear or stress at visits, don't ignore it -- I wish I hadn't.

My rating isn't for the cost, however, it's the fact that the fresh dog food I purchased expired two weeks prior. I routinely checked the expiration dates when buying their food from nearby Costco and got comfortable because the date was always several months out. Not paying close attention to the dates is on me, but their lack of remorse or concern for my INCREDIBLY ill dogs and selling batches of expired fresh dog food is on them. I couldn't get my dogs to the vet for days after they first consumed the expired food because of the snow. Avoid this place at all costs. It's disgusting inside.

Other than never being able to figure out whether I was due for a free dog wash after my six visits, I always had good experiences with this location, that all changed today. Today's issue happened to be that I got a call 15 minutes before I was supposed to be there saying that they needed me to come 30 minutes late to my scheduled appointment, when I said, I would split the difference and be 15 minutes late because I already had the dog in the car and was on my way. I was put on hold and then told that would be OK. Upon my arrival I was put in a room that had so much hair from the previous dog that the tub would not drain and I walked out covered in hair that was blowing around when trying to dry my dog (that was after having to move the dryer as they did not have the 2 that are normally there). Meanwhile, they were having one of their employees groom another dog in the room next-door instead of having the self wash stations open for self washes for their customers. Then to top it off the price to wash my own dog (with someone else's dog hair) is now $30 for a 20 minute time-slot, a teaspoon of shampoo and some of their water. I've been frustrated that it was difficult to call to schedule an appointment. Their website was/is cumbersome and not conducive to actually scheduling a time but gives an "afternoon/morning/evening" option. Then they would reach out to you with what times were available and you'd go back-and-forth trying to iron out a time instead of just being able to call. Very disappointed at the direction this new ownership has taken this establishment. This will probably be our last visit here...

Then I asked them after seeing the bill if there is anything that doesn't need to be done today. They said nope everything is mandatory and that they proactively charged me 79 dollars for a fecal test I have to collect at home. They wouldn't refund me the 79 but would give me store credit. I was recommended Old Towne Pet Resort by a coworker, and I will now be recommending them too!…read more I called to make a 2-week dog boarding reservation 30-days in advance for the peak Christmas season, and they miraculously had availability at one of their three locations (Bethesda). The gentleman on the phone was so helpful and informative and made it easy. When it came time to drop my dog off the staff were so friendly and kind, and they were extremely attentive and took detailed notes of all the items I brought with my dog and any of her quirks (e.g., severe allergies, doesn't play well with others, etc.). The space was so clean and large. I felt very reassured dropping her off as I went on vacation. When I came back to get her, the staff was helpful and, again, extremely kind and talked about her time there with details that were definitely unique to my dog. She was happy, healthy, clean, and well groomed. All of her toys and leash items were accounted for and they even ran a toy out to my car that they had forgotten in her kennel. Bottom line: 5/5 do recommend!

Two years after boarding my dog at Olde Towne Pet Resort, I am still dealing with health issues…read morecaused during her stay. I am not one to complain, especially in a public forum, but the lack of care my animal received was egregious. During her stay, my dog experienced an ear infection so severe that she developed acute dermatitis from scratching. The sore or 'hot spot' on her cheek was unmissable when we picked her up, but The staff tried to pass it off as if everything was normal. The groomer who prepared her for pickup had the gall to pretend he didn't notice a massive weeping sore on her face. For her condition to have reached this point, she would have needed to scratch constantly for days and not be noticed by the staff that were supposed to be spending 'cuddle time' with her daily. As anyone who has ever had a pet with an ear infection can attest, the behavior is far from subtle. Any remotely observant and competent person would catch it. Worse, I reviewed the update photos that were sent throughout her stay, and red spot on her cheek is visible in every shot and getting progressively worse. This means that the staff overseeing playtime let an animal run around with blood on her face for days without investigating. This is utterly unacceptable. My dog also came home with constant bouts of diarrhea that we assumed this might have been a bug she picked up in boarding, but it turned out to be colitis. Our veterinarian confirmed that this was most likely stress-induced. It has made me wonder what trauma my dog experienced while being boarded that would cause her to develop a permanent bowel condition. Her colitis has caused her enormous suffering and I am still trying to manage the condition years later. As others have reported here, the staff did not feed my animal the way they were directed, and returned what was supposed to be an empty bag of dog food to us half-full. So to recap, they underfed my dog in addition to neglecting an ear infection and resultant severe, pus-weeping skin infection, then tried to pass my pet off to me as if nothing happened. Whatever they did or neglected to do for her led to a chronic bowel condition that has rendered her partially incontinent. I was appalled by the dishonesty I experienced from the staff, but decided at the time to let it go, and simply swore never to give Olde Towne my business again. I figured my dog would bounce back, but she didn't. Reflecting that she has never been the same and that she experienced pain and neglect at the hands of the people I entrusted her with, I feel the need to let other pet owners know what they might be in for if they board their animals here.

It has taken me about a month to be able to write this review so that I can try to be as objective…read moreas possible, and to dissipate the anger I felt upon my return home. The good news is -- my dog was still alive when we returned from a cruise. Stephan provided in-home care in our home the greater Palm Springs area while we were away. Because our dog appeared to be okay, we give 2 stars ("it could have been better") instead of 1 ("Not good"). (Frankly, I'm being generous). That's the good news. The bad news is: * Our home was pristine when we left. It was dirty when we returned home. Filthy, really. Off-white rug was strewn with lawn debris and a visible track of foot traffic and dirt appeared where it had never been before between the sofa and the back door. The kitchen, where cooking had occurred, had not been wiped up, dishes in the sink. The sofa was disheveled and 'lived-in' with an odor that required steam cleaning to remove. Our ordinarily pristine home was in general disarray in every room, and the house emitted a mysterious, but pungent smell. There appeared to have been no attempt whatsoever to clean up his own mess or to straighten the house in anticipation of our return. * We came home a couple of hours earlier than expected to find not only a home we had to re-clean in order to resume normal life, but multiple windows and doors open and the A/C on (presumably to air out the mysterious stench). * The cost for this service, requiring up-front payment, was nearly double what others charge in the area, but we (perhaps stupidly) believed the many 5-star ratings. We did not receive 5-star service. * The pre-prepared and measured food for our dog's daily meals was only partially consumed. * Our housekeeper came by at her scheduled time (by accident, forgetting we had cancelled her visit during our trip), but was not able to enter since no one answered the door, despite the petsitter telling us that he 'never left the house' or our dog alone. * Our dog, who is normally very friendly and approachable, appeared skittish in photographs during our trip -- tail down, ears back, avoiding rather than approaching and playful. I noted it during one text exchange with the petsitter and was told that 'this dog is NOT scared.' I beg to differ. I know my dog. * The patio plants, which we agreed would be watered daily (desert), were bone dry and wilted when we arrived, requiring immediate attention, although the hose was stretched across the lawn, presumably from some earlier use while we were gone. * In addition, the petsitter had many demands for his own comfort and convenience, which were 100% provided. The same courtesy was not returned to us, even though we discussed very clear expectations for both our dog and our home prior to our departure. * Our planned departure for a cruise was delayed for about an hour because the petsitter locked himself out of his car in the street, requiring a plan to avoid having his car towed. We allowed him to park in our garage vs. the guest parking lot. Rather than making our departure and trip less stressful, we found ourselves being more stressed because of the petsitter's own challenges, both before and during the trip and especially after. We had several conversations and a couple of site visits prior to the trip to introduce Stephan to our dog and to clarify the assignment(s). I wrote a detailed list of Q&A to guide any questions that might have arisen, including providing multiple vets and emergency contacts. I had reservations about some of my observations pre-departure, but we had already paid a non-refundable deposit of $500 and we were out of time to arrange anyone else. At a cost of $1500 per week for housesitting/pet sitting, I expected far better and more and got substantially worse and less than what we had discussed and reasonably expected. I'm just glad our dog was generally okay. Hence, 2 stars instead of 1. I wish I could report a 5-star experience and recommend this company and sitter to others. Unfortunately, I cannot.
