This place is filled with amazing and caring staff. My family and I took our dog there when he wasn't feeling so good and they immediately saw him and started treating him, we received some bad news but the staff was so incredibly kind and supportive, they came around with waters and snacks and would check up on us. They even gave us a room for privacy. All the test results came back and they went over it thoroughly and we truly felt like they cared and sympathized with us. I really wish I wasn't writing this review as the desk people were so kind, however i do think people need to be aware and cautious bringing their pet here, especially cats. I bought my cat in for lack of appetite and lethargy, and after being asked to pay close to 2k UPFRONT, for xrays, blood work, a urinalysis and an IV, the vet told me that there was nothing of concern for my cat and to take him home and watch him for a few days, recheck him on monday. My cats condition did NOT improve, and upon taking him to another vet to be rechecked, they repeated the xrays and told me that my cat needed abdominal surgery. this was not a new condition, and had shown up on the original xrays, but i was told by VEG Oakbrook that there was nothing of concern on the xrays. Please please please, be cautious and follow your gut instinct if you bring your pet here, as the cost is outrageous for such a concerning lack of care and direction. I left my appointment feeling shaken down for money, and my cat did not feel any better. read more

Hi Reader - I'm sure you're reading this to see if this place is a good option to take your pet to or waiting on your pet because you've already brought them here and you're wondering if you did the right thing. I'm here to inform you that you made a good decision and tell you what to expect as I spent 35+ hours here in need of emergency assistance. When you get to the door, there is a buzzer button on the left side (I didn't see it there because I was holding my cat in a blanket) and panicking. Once I was buzzed in, we were quickly corralled into the room where the vets do the work. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to stay there or go, but I placed my cat on the table where 4-5 people were there to assist. I opted to move out of the way, but I did see some folks who stayed at the table while the vets were working. They informed me what they thought was wrong, took him to get x-rays, and we had to wait for the x-rays to come back for the next steps to happen. Once those came back, the doctor then provided us with paperwork, the options, and the costs, all right there. We were a little shocked at being provided this at first, but as things have calmed down, I really appreciated the fact that we had all of the information right in our hands. We stayed in that same room from 11 am to 10 am the next day, we sat next to our cat the entire time (he was in an oxygen box), and saw every single thing that they did from checkups to medicine. When he didn't need the oxygen tank anymore, they moved us to a more private room with a bed because he still needed to be monitored but things were getting better. They checked in on us every 20 minutes and every time, still asked if they could do anything for me. Some even shared some of their personal stories with pets or just talked with me about him and even gushed about his handsome-ness. Everyone was really great. When things got bad again and there was nothing left for us to do, we were provided information, options, and we were able to say our goodbyes with him in that room. We were able to grieve privately in that room. We were given options on what to do next and how we would proceed with after-care. Over-all, the experience COULD have been us sitting in a waiting room away from him. Waiting to get information that took too long to get to us, and having nothing but anxiety about what was being done to him. It wasn't. We got to be with him in those last 35+ hours. We felt that he was less afraid with us there. We made sure he could see us and touch us and smell us the whole time. We were there rooting for him and hoping that any piece of what we did would help him even though the chances were low to begin with. I really am so grateful I was able to be with him that whole time. The last thing I want to say about VEG: Staying in an ER overnight as people who do not work in emergency situations was crazy - but it was eye opening. The fear that we came in with had settled, but we were there for every single time a person came in with a pet emergency and saw the same fear in their eyes. The staff treated each patient the same as us - with compassion. It must be such a difficult job to see these things every single day and night and continue to have empathy for each and every human who walks through those doors. Give them as much grace as you can, even though it is so difficult to be in the position you are in. Thank you to the Oak Brook VEG staff, every single one of you deserve more praise and money than I could ever give you. DO NOT BRING YOUR ANIMALS HERE! If I could give this place zero stars I would! I waited to post this because I was extremely upset with this facility and how me and my dog were treated. I'm starting to think all these positive reviews they have are fake. I went back in October for my dog who was EXTREMELY jaundice. I spoke with someone over the phone about the situation and how me and my family had to wait to bring our dog to our local vet because they were closed. They advised us to come and that we would be taken care of, THAT WAS NOT THE CASE. As soon as we arrived we waited for someone to come out into the waiting area and check my dogs temperature. When they finally did I was advised that my dog did have a very high fever and that she would be seen by someone soon. After waiting 35-40 minutes they finally came to the front to get us. When they brought us in back they put us in a room behind the vets in the back that looked like a closet and left us there for the next couple of hours. We waited and waited and waited and anytime I asked what was going on we were told we'd be next in line. Fast forward 3-4 HOURS LATER after getting very frustrated some vet tech with long blonde hair came up to the door didn't even come in let alone introduce herself to check on my dog look at my dog check any vitals NOTHING! just asked if my dog had had any vaccinations recently. I told them yes they were up to date and got a smirk and a laugh stating that's not what she asked" then with what info we had from our local vet we gave to the vet tech and continue to wait another hour until the vet tech came back and said okay the dr will be in with you shortly but first their going to send you a text to confirm payment before" how does that make any sense? I've worked in the vet field before and never have I seen a vet charge before even seeing the pet. My dog was LITERALLY DYING! These people didn't care!!! We checked to see what was going on the vet techs and drs were just standing around eating their lunch laughing! It wasn't like there was a dire situation that needed to be tended to or a surgery going on they literally were just sitting around as many other people were waiting as well. We ended up leaving because we got there at 7 and didn't see ANYONE it was around 11 o'clock by the time the vet tech came to the door. We found out the next day after getting our dog into our local vet that she was dying and bleeding internally and yet against my better judgment I chose this establishment thinking they would've been able to help when it was just about the money. We had to put my dog down a couple days later and I'm so heartbroken thinking they could've possibly done something to help. I've had many dogs throughout my years and never have I ever went through something as traumatic as that night. To whoever is reading this PLEASE THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU BRING YOUR ANIMAL HERE. My dog was dying and these people were just laughing chit chatting not a care in the world and these people are supposed to be the ones who care for our animals? I had to take my puppy in a few weeks ago and was immediately greeted by the most compassionate staff who took incredible care of my pup. They gave him cuddles while he got his testing done and the best part is I could stay in the room during his exam. We got to sit in back and wait so my dog was nice and calm. The open concept didn't seem to bother my dog whatsoever. Everybody was very transparent, however when I had a question about the medication for the veterinarian, she got a little surly with me which kind of put me off a little bit When I'm paying that kind of money for an emergency vet ,and when I'm giving my dog medication, I want to be clear what the instructions are!! One wrong dose, and it could potentially kill your pet!! I understand they were busy that night but understand where I'm coming from as well! Thought this was a full service emergency vet . Brought my dog in with what we thought was pneumonia. They took an x-ray and we had to wait an hour for someone to read it . They give him a sedative while we waited . Results came back with what looked like a lung lobe torsion. At that point they charged me $900 for an x ray and sedative shot ( that didn't work) only to tell me that I had to go somewhere else for a CT scan and possible surgery. I brought my pup in for foreign body emergency surgery and I could not be more grateful for my experience at VEG. He was in bad shape, in a state that I hope to never have to see him in again. They immediately took him in, took vitals, took blood, performed X-rays, and hooked him up to fluids. They allowed me to be right by his side whenever I wanted to give my pup a little extra support and even asked if I wanted to watch his surgery. They let me know that I could come and visit him whenever I wanted and they even said that I could've stayed the night with him as he healed. Post surgery, he had some difficulties - not eating, lethargic, not himself. I brought him back in and once again got him what he needed immediately. He ended up staying a couple more nights so that they could insert a feeding tube and keep a close eye on his vitals while pumping him fluids. All in all, I highly recommend this place to anyone that is looking for around the clock care, emergency treatments, and a vet staff that makes you feel like family. They saved my dog's life and were there for him when he needed it most. They're amazing! read more

This is a paste of the same review I left on google. I want to warn as many family's as I can, do NOT bring your loved ones here. My boyfriend's cat was hit by a car and we brought him to this shelter. He was 3 years old and healthy and as my research has shown, was a perfect candidate for saving. This place asked us for $7,000 on the spot and we told them we couldn't afford it but that we could put down $1,000 at the moment and pay the rest off in a short amount of time. All we needed was some fluids and pain meds. They turned us away and instantly told us to put down the cat. We tried so desperately to reason with them and get help, but all they cared about was the money. The cat's name was Cloud, and he was only 3 years old. He has a mama and 5 siblings back at home who are absolutely devastated by his loss, as is our family. He was one of the sweetest and friendliest cats you would ever meet. When I first met him he flopped on the ground instantly and begged for belly rubs. He deserved better doctors and a shelter that cared. I cannot recommend the care and compassion for your pet enough at this emergency vet. They took the time to thoroughly examine our deaf dog Maverick when he ingested something strange. They were patient and calmly and clearly explained everything going on. They were so patient when he was wiggling getting some shots and fluids, and they let me help hold him which made me feel very comfortable. Everyone was so sweet and kept asking if there was anything they could get for us or do for us. The vets were all knowledgeable and I felt very comfortable trusting their advice and expertise. I would never want anyone to have to go to the emergency vet, but if they need to, this is THE place to go. I can't recommend this place enough. We had an extremely unfortunate incident happen at home between my two pups and we rushed our one girl Bell who got the brunt of the incident (I have been extremely Ill and Luna thought she needed to protect me). I called while my husband drove so they knew we were coming and they were ready when we got there. I was able to stay with her the entire time while my husband ran home to get our other pup Luna. My husband got to stay with Bell as they put her under to work on her wounds, while I sat in a private room with Luna. I'm very glad that I chose this ER. I don't think my heart would've been able to handle handing my baby over to someone and not be able to see her whenever I wanted. I think having us with her really helped make her more at ease as the vet and techs worked on her. My husband got to help them along the way and that really helped him see that she was getting great care. Bell has healed extremely well and the only remnants are the scars on top of her head. Her front legs that were the worst of her injuries, now almost look like nothing ever happened. Obviously, they continue to be closely monitored for behavioral changes as I continue with my medical journey with nurses in and out of the house and my hospitals stays, some being as long as 2 weeks. I called yesterday with an emergency situation with my dog. I did speak with one of the "doctors," who, basically, told me they could not help me. My dog was bleeding severely from a cyst that had been disrupted by a game of tug o war with her rope toy. She had been bleeding nonstop for several hours and I became very concerned and called my regular vet- who is in the city. I just moved to the western burbs and haven't found a new vet yet, so my current vet referred me to Oak Brook Emergency Vet. When I spoke to the "doctor" he was fairly nonchalant regarding my dog's issue, and without seeing her, determined he could not help her due to them not having a cauterizing laser and that I should hold ice on her cyst. Ummmm, not sure this "veterinarian" has tried to hold ice on a dog that was not anesthetized, but, I can assure him that is easier said than done. He diagnosed that he could not handle my issue without even seeing my dog in person. What. A. Moron. So, who should I call when I have a pet emergency? Is there a place called: "The ACTUAL Emergency Vet Clinic? I did find another Emergency Vet in Countryside that was able to help my pupper. Thank goodness. Had this situation turned into a much sadder ending, the Oak Brook Animal ER and the "doctor" seems like they would've been fine with it. I guess becoming a veterinarian isn't about the love of animals anymore. And, please, don't mistake me for a, brave behind the keyboard, type of person. I would be more than happy to speak to this "doctor" in person. UPDATE: Spoke to the office manager. Felt like I was speaking to a mediocre politician who dances around real questions I wanted answers to. My guess is that she wouldn't bring her pet here if she had an emergency either. I was here just the other night for my guinea pig who was in critical condition. He ended up passing away but the care and love he and I received was unmatched. Everyone was so eager to help and be there to comfort me. Although i'm heart broken to have had to take him home in a box I could not have asked for better care in his last moments. They even were very generous about aftercare options and my medical bill. I will absolutely recommend them to everyone and wish I could do more to thank them. Yesterday my cousin, our dog and I got attacked by a Pitbull while we were taking our dog for a walk. It was the worst experience of our lives. We took our dog here to get his wounds taken care of and it was such a relief to have found this place open on a Sunday night. The staff were incredible and so compassionate. They catered to all of our needs. They took care of our dog and even helped my cousin clean up her dog bites. My dog was in a crisis situation due to a situation (hemangiosarcoma) that developed suddenly. The staff at VEG was extremely compassionate from start to finish, and informed us every step of the way. They answered all of my questions thoroughly and with great patience. My dog was never separated from us during the procedures, and the staff treated him with such respect and warmth. Sadly, my dog needed to be euthanized, but the staff made the process as painless as possible. They provided us with a very comfortable room, including blankets and an orthopedic bed for my dog. They gave us all the time we needed to say our goodbyes. The prices were very reasonable considering this is an emergency vet clinic. While I hope to not have to use their services any time soon, I am so grateful that this facility exists and highly recommend them. read more

We found Mr. Breyers a few houses down from our house(he's a stray). After a long while goose hunt with other hospitals and police stations, we called this veterinary service. As soon as we called and asked if we could take him they immediately said we could take him in and if they needed to they could put him down if they needed to. Mr breyers was paralyzed and couldn't feel his back paws, his back or his tail. The veteran told us it would be the best to put him down. I'm very greatful for this emergency service and to put Mr.breyers out of his misery that he was in. Everybody was so kind and caring! read more

My 8 year old dog needed emergency bladder surgery due to stones with a possible obstruction. Dr. Hayward was awesome, everything you would want in an emergency scenario with you fur baby was excellent at this clinic. Hillary the receptionist, the first person I interacted with was so helpful and kind. The entire staff was wonderful in such a scary situation. I highly recommend this clinic for all emergency treatment. Our first visit to this clinic was very upset by a difficult night for all of us. We had a sick dog and the clinic had a busy night. Our dog seemed better and we left without seeing a Vet because she was so busy. Symptoms were better for a day but sadly returned on the weekend. We returned after calling the clinic and explaining our situation. We were able to speak to a Vet immediately and our pup and we received excellent care. We can't thank the doctor and her staff enough for the support and help we received on this visit! We had an emergency with out LAB ROCKY he developed a tumor on his spleen and appeared to be bleeding . I called VEG they told me to bring him right in , and after several test and procedures recommended surgery . I can't start to let everyone know what this group of people are like most sincere caring well schooled in vet field and went over the top taking care of our pup . I am on Disabilty income and they went out of there way to help us to be able to afford this major surgery I can't say enough good about VEG as I would never go anywhere else a week later and Rocky is doing so much better. My dogs ate a full bottle of my parents' dogs pain medicine. VCA had a 2-3 hour wait so I rushed them to VEG in Oakbrook since they had a 1 hour wait. Even though I previously had a bad experience there. I figured it's not hard to induce vomiting and that they'd be able to handle that...We had the worst experience there. The staff was extremely unprofessional, had no sense of urgency and the vet there is extremely rude and cold. My dogs missed the ideal window for inducing vomiting based on the neglect and lack of urgency. They had plenty of staff standing around joking , who would have been available to help. After pushing for them to induce vomiting, they finally did it and a lot of wrappers and medicine came out. I then had them transfer us to VCA since there's no way I'd trust them with my dogs' 48hour care . If you love your pet, and have an actual emergency please go to VCA for the best care read more

Last night we had to take our dog there because he was not acting normally and turned out to be very dehydrated. I have never seen such an efficient and interesting system. Intead of being shut in a room wondering what and when something was going to happen, there are benches spaced throughout the central core of the business. You can see what is happening with your pet, the vet techs and drs. are right there to give you a smile and reassure you. Our dog who is normally easily agitated by being in a place with alot of movement, was interested in what was going on, but not scared by it. I loved that we could see what was happening to him, like getting the IV bag, right in front of us. Everyone there knows what to do, where their place is and they do it all expertly. I know was dog was a in the best of hands when we met our doctor. I hope I never have another emergency, but if I do, I know where to go. I can not recommend VEG enough! I found them, like many others, in the worst possible situation any pet mom can be in with a pet in crisis. Our 8 year old lab mix was in respiratory distress, with his body shutting down in the middle of the night. From my initial phone call, to helping carry him from my car, making him comfortable, making me feel better that I hadn't somehow missed something that could have prevented this happening, to handing me tissues I didn't realize I needed, to the doctor re-explaining all of our limited options to my husband on the phone because I was too incoherent to comprehend what he had just told me; they were incredible every step of the way. Unfortunately, there was nothing we could really do to save him and we were forced to let him pass, but they made him comfortable and even let us switch so my husband could say good bye. I had my dog there 2-3 times over the Christmas holiday... walked in the door asked why we brought him in and took directly in the back for treatment, just that fast. The dr's and staff were excellent and good. They were very kind to my pup. No one ever wants to end up at the ER with their baby but if you do I highly recommend them. We came in under time constraints per another vet to get into an emergency room within 2 hours for dog who had swallowed part of a rawhide whole. Everybody was very friendly, compassionate, and reactive to the presented situation. The dog was seen very quickly so we were able to. The doctors examined the dog and took the particulars about size etc of what the dog ingested. The dog actually didn't need ER care which this vet told us instead of running up a large bill for procedures that could have done more harm than good per the vet vs a dead frozen squirrel another dog had swallowed whole that did have to come back up via a different ER years ago. That matters either way and I can't recommend them enough. The open concept was also nice because you are present for what they do and their work on other animals who did need ER services and were getting them. read more
