I recently had to put my elderly dog to sleep. The staff and vet at Countryside were incredibly patient and kind. Their process allows for privacy, grieving and support. I love their vet and the care they provide, but I have to say I'm disappointed that I was forced to give my dog the flu shot even though she didn't need it. In my opinion, that should be optional, not mandatory -- especially since the canine flu shot is very similar to the human flu shot, where not every dog necessarily needs it. While I still trust the vet's care overall, I really believe this policy should be reconsidered. Pet owners deserve the choice when it comes to what vaccines are appropriate for their own pets. read more

My cat had the worst ear infection and the staff gave me an appointment within 30 minutes when I called at 7:50 am before they opened. My appointment was set for 8:30 and when I got there at 8:25 I was taken back immediately. Within 5 minutes they came in and examined my cat. I thought long and hard before placing this review. I wanted some time. After reading others reviews, they are absolutely correct. They only care about the money. My dog Lucy came in ill and they did blood work (twice) for no reason, an ultrasound and X-rays. Yet, still insisted on vaccinations knowing she had very little time left and billed me for those too. I went back in and they told me she had 12 to 24 hours to live and they would be open until 7 to euthanize Lucy. No sympathy, just flat to the point. Oh, and it will be $700.00. I left never to come there again. Lucy was put to rest with a wonderful company at my home. I now take my other dog to Le Par in Evergreen park. They are wonderful. Don't take your animals here. I have been in love with this place for years. Then COVID happened. Now, I am going to preface this by saying that I work in the medical field. I am vaccinated (3 vaccines) but I know it's scary. I still see patients every day and since I'm a dental Assistant, my patients don't have a mask on. But, I digress, I called CVC and literally begged them if I could come with my shih tzu who is almost 16 years old and I have some concerns about. I stated I would show them my vaccine card and would wear a mask at all times. Their answer was still no. I don't understand. They say that our pets are important to them but you are going to put my almost 16 yo dog in a kennel without his mom or dad - it's crazy. read more

This business is a joke. I wrote a review after another horrible experience here and the response is baffling. A productive conversation was attempted but this business isn't capable of handling conflicts in a professional manner. My dog has gone to their grooming for approximately 2-ish years. They would push heavily on administering the bordetella vaccine because it's beneficial for animals who are boarded on a regular basis. However, my dog is not. The visit is about an hour or two long and she would go about once every six months. In the past, I was allowed to sign a written waiver of consent and responsibility. Apparently, that is no longer an option. You would think they would be aware of the past waivers in her history and update clients of the change in policy. When I checked-in the receptionist right away said she was not up to date, and I informed her that she goes elsewhere for her veterinary care but I can get them sent. Then, I spoken to with an unnecessarily attitude. I brought up a waiver (as done so in the past) and was told no and when I tried to explain I have done so in the past I was spoken over. I stepped aside to call my vet to send over her records (Only had proof of rabies on me at the moment) and a tech came out to grab her. I was not comfortable sending her back without them even having the required records or clarification on being able to sign a waiver again. The receptionist eventually said she would "find out". Another woman came out and went on a rant about hospital policy. I'm sure it has been hospital policy, but again, I was allowed to sign a waiver in the past. Frustrated because they wanted to bring my dog to the back before any resolution, I told them to cancel my appointment and I left. My mom called shortly after I left because she has assisted me in taking my dog to grooming appointments and has also signed the waiver in the past. The manager was very disrespectful and couldn't care less about our concerns. Even went on to tell my mom "This conversation is over!" while my mom was seeking clarification. So, responding to a review asking for respect is a joke. When a client mentions a concern and is automatically spoken to with an attitude and displays no interest in listening shows this business has no respect for paying customers. How they treat/speak owners can only represent the care (more-so lack of) they give to your pets. Especially since the care is conducted mainly outside of your presence. If you take your animal here, you should start to reconsider. read more

STAY AWAY FROM HERE PLEASE I PROMISE YOU. It took 5-6 hours to be seen by somebody and my dogs eyes were swollen red and bloody. I didn't mind the time it was vet that made so disappointed in this place The vet responsible: dr. Alicia Sweeney who saw my dog (Thor) eyes all red and blood shot and swollen looked at him, and said it was inflammation and sent him on his way spent five mins with him all she did was check if he had a scratch on his eyes I knew it was more than that, thank god for google and my dogs eyes look nothing like what she claimed. I luckily got an appointment at petco hospital, and it turns out my baby had eye cancer and that medicine wasn't going to do anything for him. All they did was take one look at thor and KNEW something was serious wrong and took him straight to the back for multiple testing. My dog could've went permanently blind and died if I listen to you, it's incredible unprofessional and you should not be allowed to operate as a buisness since care and quality is not your strong suit, I wish I could get a refund from the exam! My dog is my son he means the whole world to me and helps me battle my depression, to think I trusted a place with my whole world and they couldn't even take the time to make sure he was okay.... That vet should not be allowed to work there until she realizes the serious of her job and the quality she should give. It isn't about pushing people out. Overbilling and not refunding the money. Beware. We brought our cat in for a lip growth. He needed ear medication, and post op tests ok. We go back the next day for surgery. Brought our own collar/cone, but were charged 22. For a new one. Asked for an EKG, test was not done properly, so Vet Dr Nick called and said we would get a refund, that was over 1 week ago, still no money. Beware of their overbilling practices. Went on 2/28 with my cat for possible ringworm and had a culture done. I was told the results take 3 to 7 days to come back. I called 3/9 to see if the results came back and was told they were and the vet would call me back later that day. I didn't receive a call back so I called again yesterday and was told again that the results were there but that the vet was seeing patients and would call me back later that day. I again didn't receive a call back so I called again today and was told the vet wasn't even there the past two days when I had been told she was and that the results hadn't come yet even though I had been told that they were. Now I was told the results might be in on the 14th. Everytime I have called I've been told a different story, at this point I feel like I spent $250 on a test I'll never get the results for. I asked to speak to a manager and was told he was busy but that he would call me back in a little bit, but of course I never got a call back from him either. read more

Not sure why there's bad reviews. I had a great experience! Everyone was so kind and they took great care of my dog for his ACL surgery.

I came here many years ago and for at least a couple years at that time. My reason for going here in the first place was because they were a walk-in, no appointment facility. I had a hectic schedule and the ability to bring my pet(s) in at different hours and on weekends was appealing. My reason for leaving was because they are a walk-in facility with no appointments. It got to a point that the center was so busy, and I could not sit and wait for hours to take my pet to the vet. It was also annoying because the wait was in the huge waiting room, which was always filled with many, many animals. I have rescued pit bulls. Some have been dog friendly and some have not. Usually as soon as I walk in anywhere, many people still glare in either hatred or fright. Some have not cared about letting their dogs walk off on long leashes. That is not a very respectful nor a wise decision around ANY strange dogs. Many small dogs would be non-stop yapping and going crazy, but if my dog barked, we would get all kinds of looks and even comments of disgust. I don't need it, frankly. I did however, love the doctors, almost always. There were a couple in particular who were absolutely amazing. However, in my opinion, another downfall in the process was that you really could not choose what doctor you could see. One doctor in the past told me that my pet had a heart murmur and we should see their cardiac specialist on staff. We all love our pets and want the best for them so of course, I said yes and paid for the specialist. The specialist immediately poo-pooed the diagnosis and said that while there was a heart murmur it was to no level that the previous doc said and that it was in fact very slight and most likely NOT because he was eating non-grain dog food as the other claimed. The doc (heart specialist) even went so far as to say that it was ridiculous the claims, especially against Fromm dog food. I really respected him for that. He could have signed me up for a bunch of expensive tests and I would have paid lots of money for them. My dog went on to live a long and normal life. Then later, I vowed never to return after with that same dog, my beloved Buddy, was very elderly and sick and almost ready to cross the rainbow bridge. We sat in that stupid waiting room for hours and he was miserable and I was furious. There was little to no comfort in the facility when you are there in the front and waiting. It was horrible. SO THE GOOD NEWS: I returned today, frankly out of desperation. The vet that I had been going to for many years could not take my dog for a week and a half and my dog had an ear infection and was very uncomfortable with it. All the other appointment facilities in the area also had at least a one week wait. We were going out of town and in addition to the ear infection, he was lapsed on his rabies shot. While he has never been a biter, I did not want to take any chances so I contacted Countryside. They have new options for getting into see a vet and I was skeptical but decided to try. While there is an option to drop off your pet at either 6 AM on weekdays or 7 AM on weekends and let them see the doctor without you being present, I was not up for that. There was also the option of showing up and waiting and then finally to call in at the start of the day and put yourself on the waiting list and they would call when I should head in. As I say, I was extremely skeptical but also desperate. At 8 AM when they opened, I immediately called in. I was at first put on hold and then disconnected in 10 minutes but then called back and with an apology and an excuse that they were short staffed, they put me on hold again but in a few minutes got back on and took my name and number. Surprisingly enough, I received a phone call with a couple more questions and a request to head on in at 9:06. I was in the office within 15 minutes and although I did have to wait about 20 in the waiting room, it was a reasonable wait. I cannot say enough about the vet we saw. A young lady who was thorough and filled with common sense and great suggestions to deal with my dogs continuous ear infections. She gave me options and allowed me to decide how I wanted to proceed. When she mentioned that this dog had heart murmur and I could not help but be a little suspicious at first because, honestly. What are the chances? However, she followed it up with The fact that she usually suggests patients monitor the murmur and have them check it the next time the Pet was in the office. She told me that of course some people prefer to take the next step immediately but I really appreciated that she allowed me to decide how I wanted to handle that as well. Overall I would say it was an excellent visit and while I am still not completely in love with the no appointment situation on a long-term basis, it definitely has its benefits and again bottom line if the doctor/vet you see is a good one, it is often times worth the trade-off. read more

I wanted to wait a bit before reviewing this animal hospital because, despite some of the unpleasant reviews, I needed to experience this place for myself. To be clear, this clinic is on a walk-in basis only. They do not do appointments and they are absolutely not an emergency veterinarian hospital. I have personally seen clients walk in and expect emergency services and then leave upset because staff directed them to take their beloved pet to the ER. I have also seen and read reviews about how upsetting the wait is. As I mentioned, this is a walk-in, first come, first serve clinic. If your pet is a new patient, expect to wait 5-6 hours before your pet is seen. If your pet is already a patient there, expect to wait 3-5 hours before your pet is seen. The earlier you check in, the better for you. If you come in too late in the day, you may have to return the next day for your pet to be seen because, if the wait extends past their closing hours, they cannot see your pet that day. Also, you can check your pet in, leave, and wait for a callback when the doctor is available to see your pet or, you can leave your pet there and pick him or her up when the doctor is available to see your pet or after they have completed their visit with your pet. They take GREAT care of my cats when I leave them there and pick them up later. They're always provided with a kennel and the essentials. I have zero complaints about that. And, since I know and expect a wait, I am prepared to drop my cat(s) off and go on about my day until they are ready for me to come pick them up. As far as front office staff, they always seem agitated. I have only experienced two staff members who have welcomed me warmly and treated me with respect and kindness. I wish I knew their names but, I don't. The other staff members I have dealt with, appear as though I am bothering them. Their voices, verbiage and demeanors are always rude and it's off putting. But, I don't let it bother me too much. I assume they are under at least some amount of stress with the volume of clients they have each day. Although, that does not excuse their behavior; hence, why I give the clinic four stars, not five. Finally; the doctors are EXCELLENT! I mean, seriously the best! They have taken excellent care of my cats! They have helped my sick, male cat twice, and I am so grateful! Yesterday, they spayed two of my female cats and the perfection of the incisions, stitches, and even the way they shaved their fur is incredible! I have had many cats spayed throughout my life, elsewhere, and have never seen such care taken on a spay surgery. I'm so impressed. I don't know which doctor performed their surgeries but he or she is amazing and I'm so, very grateful. read more

I took my dog here for about 1.5 years, ever since she was 3 months old. I invested with the wellness plan and daycare but most importantly, invested my trust. Recently, my dog started displaying some concerning symptoms of kidney failure at the young age of 5. I remembered that I had her previous records from Countryside, and started to review them to see if there was any evidence of kidney disease. In 2016 prior to her spay, she had blood work that was indicative of early kidney disease. This information was never discussed with me. Certainly I would not put my dog under anesthesia and have medications that are hard on the kidney be administered to her without further work-up. Long story short, my dog has congenital renal dysplasia, and while this is a diagnosis that can't ever be fixed, had I known about it 4.5 years ago, I would have modified her diet, added in supplements, medications and done everything to sustain her short life span. I will note in 2018 I brought her in for a UTI and was told there was no bacteria in the urine but concern for dilute urine and small protein. No further recommendations were brought to my attention at that time. It shouldn't be the responsibility of the pet owner to interpret lab results and "catch" something so major. I am concerned for other pet owners who may never request access to their records, or once they do get them, do not review them until there is a concern down the road in their pets health. The veterinarians who participated in Stella's care are no longer at this clinic but I really hope Countryside will make a plan going forward so that other pet owners will be fully informed of their pets critical results. read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would. So I decided to wait to posts a review after I cool off, then my anger towards this kennel was lit again!!! READ ENTIRE REVIEW! At the begging of October we took our 2 dog kids to be kenneled. One is good with other dogs and the other hates other dogs besides her sister. I informed the kennel staff around 5 times. Why 5 times, because they constantly forgot to note it and when I checked them in, they did not have it noted and when I informed the desk staff for the 4th time, they mixed it and again had to informed them of one being aggressive to other dogs. Long story short, we picked them up bi even tipped. When we leashed one of them in THEIR LOBBY, our hands were bloody and we panicked!!! Staff saw and they simply said "she bites the cages and gets bloody". WTF!!!!!! I asked for a manager to call me!!! Days passed and the first manager that called was short and simply didn't care! I asked what happened to the manager, she didn't know!!! She had to ask!!! Lmao I let her speak... after she made excuse after excuse, I simply said..... "So let me recap what you said, She has been bitting the cage to the point of harming herself? Yet nobody called me? Nobody called! She was in an area with many other dogs but not in the area for dog aggressive dogs where there is little traffic? Nope! You said that she did this but no call to me. Did a vet check her? Nope!!!! So if we did not see out bloody hands when we picked her up, you would not have said anything? Quiet! Crickets! I hung up and but asked for another manager or regional manager.... In the mean time, I called my other two kennels (couldn't book them bc they were full), they both confirmed both never had any type of aggression and not even a growl! If they did, they would call us to pick them up or have other plan in place, that is protocol. If one is wounded while being kenneled, policy is to call the owner and take to the vet at kennels expense! They also both confirmed that Countryside vet center is a negligent kennel and they told me some stories! So the main building manager called me! I told her what both my other vets and kennels said! She could not give me a straight answer!!!! Just some petty apology and yada yada yada, we will note it. I asked for her to be seen by their vet bc she was bleeding (yesterday) but also bc she seems sad, quiet and it is not normal of her. She should have been seen immediately while in the care of the kennel when she did "what they said". GET THIS!!!! MANAGER SAID THEY CAN SEE HER BUT I HAVE TO MAKE A LINE TO BE SEEN AND IF TREATMENT IS NEEDED, THEY WONT PAY FOR THAT. EVEN THO ALL THIS HAPPENED WHILE IN THEIR CARE WITH NO CALL TO ME. I HUNG UP!! I did mention to her that I confirmed with both my regular kennels and they have never had a bit of issues with both of them and that They even remember them bc of how loving they are! I also told them that they did mention negative information they get from other customers at Countryside vet center, they know bc people mention the bad stories. Reposted them to BBB! Get this! So I take our dog babies to get kenneled at their regular place! We know a couple people there bc they are amazing! GUESS WHAT?!!! If I could give this place NO STARS I would. My Maltese had a bump in her stomach that was growing slowly over time. They informed me that my dog needs surgery and that she has cancer. Told me to bring her to Buffalo grove. After making me bawl my eyes out, I brought my dog to Buffalo grove animal hospital and we saw a cancer specialist WHO INFORMED US MY DOG NEVER HAD CANCER. We raised hell and we complained about doctor Sutter like you wouldn't believe. For my shih tzu who has aggression issues they told us to pull her collar until she stops. So to clarify I asked.. pull her collar to choke her? They said yes because eventually she won't have the energy or the breath to continue!!!!! WHAT!!!!! I also boarded my 3 dogs here when I took a vacation to Las Vegas. After the first night we received a call that my eldest dog was didn't look like she was going to make it through the night due to labored breathing and no energy..they wanted us to get her so we can spend the last moments with her. Once again, bawling, I had a family member pick her up- GUESS WHAT- she was fine she was just very nervous. She lived 2 years longer. also, my friend use to work here as a vet tech and informed me that behind closed doors they aRe not nice to animals and that people who aren't even properly trained insert needles into our 4 legged loved ones. Our pets have been patients here for years and we used to really like them but it's gone completely downhill. You cannot make an appt!!!! It's walk in only and the wait is typically 3-4 hours.!! How utterly absurd. You have to take an entire day off of work to sit in their parking lot to get your pet vaccinated!! Who thought this was a business model that served customers and was good for pets. Sitting for hours had our dog so wound up by his exam he was a mess. And still pet owners are not allowed in for a consultations and exam with their pets. Not even with a mask and being fully vaccinated as an owner. You turn your pet over in the parking lot and the vet calls you. You can't really explain pet illnesses or issues as well over a cell phone as you can in person. Good luck getting anyone on the phone or a return call to renew a prescription. Service has become atrocious. Too bad.... it used to be the best vet around. *****Response to owner- While I appreciate your prompt response to my review I have to reiterate that my family, and many more, do not see the advantage in the " no appt" model given the extraordinary wait times. My dog does not need a bordetella vaccine because she is not boarded on a regular basis. I was pretty much told oh well, she's going to have to get it. As I am sitting to the side to allow others to check-in and calling my vet for her records - a tech comes out to grab her. I tell them my dog is not going back until I get verification that she will not get the bordetella. Then, that is when I was told the "hospital policy" has changed with zero formal notice to clients of the change. I told them we're canceling & then left. My mom called to speak to a manager after I explained to her what occurred. The manager could have cared less, and told my mom "This conversation is over". Terrible service, irresponsible staff with no answers. Kept our 3 month old puppy for almost 8 hours when the original estimate was 2 to 3 hours and asked if we would drop him off. for a 2 to 3 hour trip a drop off is fine but for almost 8 no. No one seems to be responsible for anything, everyone responds with "well I didn't tell you that." After the first call to them at 4 hours they say it will be about another hour, 2.5 hours later the vet calls, they still haven't done the vaccinations but we can come get him in 10 minutes, I tell them I can be there in 15. From that phone call it takes them another hour to get him to the door, where they want us to stand outside. Yet none of their staff can understand why I'm angry. This place has steadily declined since we first started coming here. None of our pets will be back. read more

Dr. Alicia Sweeney was amazing! I called in at 3 pm and was told they had one spot open at 6. (They don't take appointments/first come first serve basis) we didn't get into our vet room until 7:30ish so expect the long wait. Dr. Sweeney was great at respecting our dog's space (unlike the other vet we went to where our dog got traumatized and won't let any profesional nearby him anymore) and listened to our concerns. In total we spent about $300 for medication that actually works for his interdigital cysts! But by the end of our visit, our dog gained trust and Dr. Sweeney was able to offer him a treat without getting aggressive/lunge at. Overall the place is great! Will definitely come back! read more

Completely unorganized and chaotic front office. They may be cheaper than most but you get what you pay for. Be prepared to wait hours. We showed up at 10:50 and told us they would call us when we could be seen. They called me at 3pm to come in and we would be seen right away. At 4pm I asked the front desk how much longer and they said at least an hour since 4 pets were still ahead of me. This was my second experience with this clinic. The first time around wasn't much better. I was giving them a second shot. Shame on me. read more

We've been coming here for years with our Husky and later, our Chug, that we adopted from here. Great services all around. The husky adores the daycare playtime and attendants. We are on the yearly treatment plans and prices are more affordable to us that way. read more

I like the walk in only setup, no appointments needed. We never wait longer than 20 min and are always entertained by the other cute pets. The office is very clean and the staff is so friendly. For my kitty we got the package deal which includes all shots, endless visits, and fixed surgery. Saved tons ! Piper currently got spayed and is recovering. They even called to ensure she was doing well and answer any questions or concerns we had. They're very attentive. Tip: Give them you're email to receive emails regarding shots due for your pet. read more

The doctors here are great, but the process for checkin, the communication, and the front desk staff are horrendous. They stand around, they are not diligent or prompt and make you wait without communicating updates, emergencies or expected time to get your pet in. They need to work on this process. I checked in my pet and have been waiting over an hour to get her in for a basic check up for what they told me would be a quick wait. They don't call you or message you to inform of delays and they seem to have no clue how to estimate wait times. Again, I think the doctors they have there are nice and sweet but it way be time to switch. The front deck joke of a staff I dealt with: Lisa and Amanda. Lisa told me one hour. At this time waiting 2 hours and 45 min. No kind hello, please wait, can I help you?!?! Customer service is non- existent and disappointing. UNACCEPTABLE. We will be taking our business elsewhere. read more

No longer will use this facility for any services. My dog had ingested grapes. Refused to see my pet. Grapes are highly toxic and ingestion can result in rapid renal failure. I currently have 6 animals on their wellness pan. The clinic was open but as usual they stopped seeing animals hours before they closed. Frankly at this point I wouldn't bring a corpse there. read more

We used to adore this place. We have been going for over 10 years. Unfortunately, within the past 2 years, this place has gone downhill. There doesn't seem to be communication between people working there, and the animals suffer because of it. I've had lab results lost, just to have to bring my cat back the next day. (You know how much sick cats love leaving the house.) I've had doctors order tests, just to have the follow up doctor say it wasn't necessary. That stuff adds up! I don't think they're, intentionally, trying to milk people for money. The vets at this practice genuinely seem to care. I just think the place is managed by someone completely incompetent. We've moved on to another place. I don't trust my babies in the hands of this business. read more

Every time I have come to this vet I leave very happy. My dog is owner aggressive so I get very anxious about taking him to the vet around all those animals and people. This vet worked with me and my dog. They offered solutions to help calm my nerves such as taking him in through a different door and so on. They actually communicate with me and make sure I understand what is going on, something my last vet did not do. This is the only vet I take my dog to now and I recommend it to others. There are some days where the wait is very long, as you would expect because it is a vet but the kindness and care they offer is worth the wait. read more
