Probably the best most fresh and moistest almond cookies on earth! a…read morecrusty outside and super almondy and soft insid. an intense almond flavor and use of high quality almond paste. A triumph! Delicious cookies and Italian pastries just like Nona's because they are made by people who bake with love.

Lombardi's is an utterly charming, old-fashioned Italian bakery located in downtown Torrington…read more It's family run, cash-only, and incredibly well priced. The pretty loaves of Italian bread are only $3 -- and they taste exactly like my mother's homemade Italian bread, which I would gobble straight out of the oven as a child. (My siblings and I would fight over the heel, excavate the innards, and fill it with butter!) Also on offer: -- Lattice pies / tarts, half lemon, half apple for.... drumroll........ $14! -- Eclairs -- Italian cream puffs -- Chocolate chip cookies -- 2 for $1! -- Lots and lots of colorful Italian cookies Not all of the baked goods were fresh out of the oven, but that's not surprising given that it was (1) Sunday and (2) there are so many items available that they cannot possibly keep everything in rotation day-of fresh. We have access to world class bakeries and are spoiled rotten. By our hyper-picky standards, the baked goods were just fair. But given the pleasant owners, bargain pricing, and lovely bread, I have no trouble seeing why this place is a local favorite.

It not…read moreonly has the best Ice Cream in the area, but the shop itself is quaint and reminiscent of an old time Ice Cream shop. They have a fantastic selection of Ice cream flavors, do some seasonal flavors each year, and also offer Ice cream sodas, floats, Sundaes, and many topping choices. They also have Ice Cream in tubs to take home and some small "old-timey" snacks, candies, and gum. The hours are really good and sometimes they are open at the most unsuspected times, later than posted at times, which is always a good surprise! The prices are reasonable, I am sure some would say a bit on the higher end, but the quality is so good it is worth it. The lady who (I believe0 is the owner and all the staff are always very pleasant, and the service is very good as well. If I had any small issue at all, I would say it would be great if they did try some brand new flavors. As mentioned above, there are some seasonal flavors that come and go, but never anything brand new and I do think that would be a great addition to an already incredible place. Some notable flavors are our favorites: Banana, Coconut, Toasted Almond and Peppermint around the Holidays, I don't believe we've ever had any flavor that wasn't very good as well. Highly recommended, a really great and groovy place!

It's cute the people were like the icecream... not exciting.

I sniffed in here with dad and we got java and pastries…read more The CANNOLI BAR candy bar tasted more white chocolate style and had shrapnel from a cannoli shell. It was not my jam but could work for some. They offer real maple syrup from the White family for a $1.00 charge. I do not know if my MAPLE _________ latte had it or not, but it was too legit to quit. Not too sweet either. Clear maple taste. Whole milk requested. Served in a mug with quality java. RATING = A. The interior is country quaint basic and not going overboard but rather erring simple and open without crowding with stuff. The location is great at the bottom of the slope in downtown. APPLE FRITTER with MAPLE GLAZE: -- I would have preferred a plain cake donut or old-fashioned cake with maple glaze, but this was good -- semi-firm -- medium-sized -- moderate amount of maple glaze has authentic color and taste -- not a sugar bomb -- dark color to bread -- not soft inside, medium-soft inside -- up to medium sweet -- not oily or greasy, tastes more on "slightly" healthy style RATING = A- SFOGLIATELLE pastry: -- this clam shell looking pastry is filled with sweet ricotta cheese -- moderate amount of cheese -- lightly sweet -- tasty -- bread is semi-firm -- I am more of a Zeppole fan, but this is good RATING = A They have bags of Ethiopian coffee which is funny because everywhere we go we see Ethiopian coffee for sale lately. Ah, I am utterly charmed! This cafe / eclectic tchotchke store is chock full of homemade goodness:…read morefrom jam, soap, and crocheted cozies in the store section, to sandwiches, salads, cupcakes, Lebanese baklava, and other baked goods in the cafe section. They bake everything in house, with specials on some days (e.g. Sweet Bun Sunday). The selection is vast, especially considering that everything is scratch made in-house. Aromas are enticing! We picked up an orange cranberry dream bar, studded with plenty of white chocolate chips, coconut, and dried cranberries, topped with orange cream cheese frosting and more dried cranberries. It was *enormous* and easily served as dessert for four. Also in our order: a streusel topped blueberry cake, as moist as could be and filled with fresh blueberries. It was also generously proportioned, large enough for at least two. We didn't try any salads, breakfast platters, or sandwiches on this visit, but they looked fantastic, based on what I saw on other customers' plates. I found that the super friendly owners are of Lebanese descent when I asked about the Lebanese baklava at checkout -- and evidently, they sometimes have Lebanese meat pies on offer! I cannot wait to come back to try every Lebanese food item they have, since my family is passionately fond of the cuisine (and really, everything else, too). I had no idea such riches could be found in Torrington! You can't throw a rock without hitting an Italian-American in this town -- not that I would ever throw a rock at an Italian-American :) -- but this is the first I've heard of a Lebanese-American contingent in these parts. I'm so glad Yelp led me here!
