So glad there's a veggie heaven location closer to home! My parents have been going to Veggie heaven for years now, and they're always telling me about how that restaurant made going out to eat so much easier for them. We went to the new Somerset location for my mom's birthday and everything was amazing. Our service was quick and the server was so sweet. We got a lot of food and thankfully had leftovers to eat the next day too. I was so focused on the food I didn't even take pictures of everything we got LOL Here's what we got and what I thought about it: Crispy Thai Lemon Chicken Nuggets - 10/10 General Tso's Chicken - 10/10 House special lo mein - 7/10 (we added some chili oil and soy sauce and it tasted better) Scallion pancake - 9/10 Malaysian Curry Chicken noodle soup - 9/10 I love Veggie Heaven, and am so glad they're in central NJ now!!

My friend and I dined here today. We know the staff from the veggie heaven in Teaneck, NJ. We were here for 3 hours and ordered lots of food (half of it was to go). Really nice ambiance! Friendly staff anf delicious food!!!

Located ironically across a live poultry and meat shop! It is like a neighborhood chinese takeout and sit down restaurant but totally vegan. Offers 5% discount for cash payment. Good food ad down to earth prices unlike other "vegan" restaurants.

Everything at Veggie Heaven has been incredible--the wonton soup, steamed dumplings, orange chicken, ginger beef, and even the green tea cake--simply superb! The ginger beef has a tantalizing glaze that's bursting with flavor. Joey is such a kind and attentive server, making the experience even better. I love everything about this place. I've never had vegan meats this flavorful and high quality!

We are beyond excited that this restaurant opened here! We've been to all of their other locations but only when we are in those areas which is rare. The menu here is smaller than the other locations, but they also have some unique things we haven't seen. The restaurant is small - 8 tables. We had our favorite veggie spare ribs. They never disappoint! I didn't get a picture of them because we were too excited to dig in. We also had the bbq pineapple drumsticks. There was even a little stick to make them look more realistic. They were t my favorite, but my husband liked them. Our main dish was "chicken" with mixed vegetables. It is served in a brown sauce and was delicious. The servers are friendly and professional. The prices are reasonable. I hope everyone will come try this place so they stay here!

All the food here is deliciously vegan. It is a delightful surprise for non-vegans who may have preconceived notions about what vegan food is. Veggie heaven blows vegan food right out of the water water. I have been a fan of the longer standing locations and this new location is no different. Great food, amazing service by Joey who helped us. The ambiance is relaxed and more casual than the other locations which I prefer. I highly recommend the sesame chicken, hot chicken and beef, and their carrot cake.

It is Vegan...don't let the menu confuse u. I am a serious carnivore but decided to give it a try for lunch. Btw, newly renovated, super clean, excellent service, looks like family run! Orange Chicken (vegan) was excellent (see pic) comes with small spring roll and white or brown rice. Best unsweetened tea! You will be pleasantly surprised. Finally, they have homemade vegan cakes. I had the chocolate... very good.

We ordered cauliflower wings and one empanada as apps and a kid's chkn tenders along with a bakon burger (sub chkn) for our mains. It took 28 minutes before we saw any food. The cauliflower wings were large and def made with fresh cauliflower (with that familiar raw crunch). The batter was raw inside- my guess is the oil temp was high so the outside cooked fast but left a lot of mush inside. The empanada was okay, very light on the filling. Another 19 minutes go by before the kid's chikn tenders come out. Apparently the cook is new and messed up on the bakon burger forgetting to sub the chkn so had to wait yet another 7 minutes for that. Chkn tenders were pretty much the gardein seven grain product and the kiddo seemed to be pleased. The bakon burger, when it finally arrived was a huge disappointment. The bottom bun was dry and hard. It would clank when I tapped it against the plate. There were a few drops of mayo in the middle leaving the entire sandwich dry with a cold slice of cheese- no attempts at melting. I did provide this feedback to our server, who was polite and even went to the back potentially to see if an accommodation could be made. However, none were made and we walked away knowing this was a one and done restaurant.

A short walk later, I found myself at Destination Dogs, a place I had seen in photographs that suggested capaciousness. In reality, it is smaller.  This is not a complaint, just an observation.  I remember once hearing something about the contents of small packages. At 12:30 the place was full. Packed with humanity and appetite. I was seated quickly, as if someone had anticipated my hunger in advance. From the bar came the sound of construction crews discussing their midday rituals. Apparently this is where they come on Fridays, to repair themselves while they repair the city. It explained everything. Service was swift and attentive, a minor miracle given the crowd. I began with a Scotch egg, an item that seemed to have wandered in from another story entirely. I ordered it for that reason. I had always imagined my first Scotch egg would be eaten in an English pub under low ceilings and older regrets. Instead, here it was. Perfectly crisp, warm, and generous. The universe does not ask for permission. Then came the main event. The menu is an atlas of hot dogs. Domestic. International. Proteins in tube form arranged like possibilities. There is even an invitation to build your own, which I accepted. I attempted to recreate a favorite from Crif Dogs, a thing called the Spicy Redneck. Bacon wrapped dog. Pickled jalapenos. Coleslaw. Simple in theory. Destination Dogs improved upon it in every way that matters. The bacon crisped with purpose. The jalapenos spoke clearly. The coleslaw behaved. The hot dog itself seemed proud to be there. All of this, plus a 16 ounce beer, cost me about twenty five dollars with tip. A small price for order in a chaotic universe. Five stars. Not because perfection exists, but because this comes close enough to make the argument.

The system worked beautifully at first. Their website promised pickup in 20 minutes. I left the The Heldrich Hotel and made the ten minute walk, only to find my order already being bagged. Efficiency like that gives a person hope. Hope, as it turns out, is fragile. Back in the room, I opened the containers immediately. Spicy beef noodles with hand pulled noodles in a beef and pork broth, along with steamed pork soup dumplings that had been spoken of with reverence online. The dumplings were cold. Not warm, not cooling. Cold, like they had been waiting longer than I had. They had fused together into a single tragic mass. When I tried to separate them, the dough tore open and the soup filling spilled out into the container, abandoning its purpose. How this happened during a ten minute walk is a mystery. The more likely answer is that it did not. The noodles were at least hot. The flavor was fine. Not offensive, not memorable, just present. You eat it, and it disappears from your mind almost immediately. This is a place people seem to love, which makes the experience feel like a clerical error in the matrix. Perhaps it was an off night. Perhaps I caught them at the exact wrong moment, but on this particular evening, dinner felt less like a meal and more like a misunderstanding.

They have a self serve salsa bar with the three salsa, the smokey roja, salsa verde and habanero. Let me just say I tried all three- fantastic heat to flavour ration and I poured the habanero on my tacos so good! in fact the smokey roja with the salsa verde is a great combination !! As children and adults, using your hands to eat was frowned upon. Fried chicken and a few other dishes were exceptions. Although, to be honest, I'm one of the few people in the world who grew up eating fried chicken with a knife and fork. Let me introduce you to Ethiopian food, where utensils aren't usually used. I guess you could call it a hands on experience. The best way to experience it in central New Jersey is at Dashen Ethiopian Cuisine in New Brunswick. https://www.dashenethiopiannj.com/ Dashen, managed by a husband and wife team - Alemayehu Hailu and Tsigereda Lemlemayehu, also offers a full bar and a big screen TV for sports events. It is a delightful place for a special meal. They also do catering. The meal starts with injera - a spongy, fermented flatbread that is spread over a large serving plate. The other foods are placed on top of this sort of sour dough bread. All of the dishes - meats and vegetables - are well cooked with fragrant sauces. They are served with a pile of folded injera. How do you eat it? You rip off a piece of injera and use it to grab some meats or vegetables or scoop them up. Then you pop it into your mouth. The sourly fermented bread and other dishes make a great combination. Whether you go for meat or vegetables, the keys here are the spices. There's a chicken dish called Doro Wot. It is simmered in a special spice sauce with onions, garlic and ginger. And served with a hard boiled egg. There are dishes of cubed beef and ground beef, and lamb. There's a lamb stew called Yebeg Alicha with onions, garlic, ginger, peppers, turmeric and other spices. The same spices can be applied to a fish fillet, salmon or shrimp. But my favorites are the vegetables. There's Misir Wot, split lentils simmered with special spices, onions, garlic, tomatoes and ginger. Gomen is collard greens with onions, spices, garlic, ginger, tomatoes and jalapenos. Tikal Gomen is cabbage with the same spice combination. Kik Wot is yellow split peas cooked with garlic, ginger, tomatoes and special spices. Dinich Alicha looks like a mixed vegetable plate with potatoes, carrots, string beans, garlic, ginger, tomatoes and spices. The food can be very spicy or quite mild. Talk to your server so you order the dishes that are to your taste. The best way to eat Ethiopian food is on a combination plate. Go with a small group of friends. Have a combination plate of meat dishes. Order another combination plate of vegetarian dishes. That will give you eight to 10 different dishes to sample. Different beans and meats and vegetables. There's a variety of textures and flavors. And eat it slowly. In fact, don't just eat it. Savor it. Really enjoy each delicious taste. Eating Ethiopian food at Dashen is not just a meal. It's an experience. You can get takeout or delivery. But it is so much better in the restaurant. I urge you to get out of your culinary rut and visit Dashen. I understand places get busy but management at FC has to be really clueless when it comes to "switching on" the availability on those platforms. Every time I call to ask if they deliver, I usually get a sarcastic response like yea duh of course we do but again staff is totally clueless that they haven't made themselves available on the platform. I wonder how much these guys are losing on deliveries or maybe this is a subtle hint that they don't want to deal with it because they're taking a loss on Postmates, Uber Eats, and Doordash. I can't be the only one experiencing this. To management: if you guys don't want to deal with these delivery services, cancel them and stop misleading people that you deliver. If you decide to keep them, talk to your account manager at said platforms and educate yourselves and your staff on how to use them so you can be more profitable in the delivery space. It's tough out there and it would be a shame if you guys lose business and the other Mexican spot in the neighborhood closes you out because they have staff that stays on top of operations. I'm done trying to give this place business and reminding them to update their availability.
