One of my new favorite places! Great food and nice staff. I came here with a friend of mine that is vegan and it definitely hit the spot after a long day in Seattle! I got the caprese from the "not so secret menu" and it was so fresh and creamy. Was surprised to find a vegan restaurant front and center at University Village. I had heard some great things about Veggie Grill food and I was anxious to give it a try. I have been to a wide variety of vegan restaurants, food trucks, and shops of all sorts. I'd place Veggie grill right in the middle in regards to nutrition and healthfulness. Plant-based whole foods are the vegan nutrition goal in a perfect world. But knowing that goal, the food at veggie grill mimics real dishes and vegan meats are used freely as well as fries and desserts. But there are some other items that are very nutritious to balance things out. Plus the food here is delicious and bound to encourage many to eat a more healthful diet. Food: I had to try the pastrami sandwich. Fried rye bread, sauce, sauerkraut all grilled to perfection. This was a must-try for me and it did not disappoint. It came with a side and I chose lentil soup which was good and healthful to boot. My carrot cake with imitation cream cheese frosting was also very good. My companion had a grilled chicken sandwich with fries and she loved it. Service: Friendly and helpful with a Spanish language twist. COVID 19: Take out and delivery plus dine in. Like some other reviewers said, the food is really consistent. You're never going to order one thing and have it taste wildly different one day vs another. I'm consistent about ordering that Santa Fe Chiken sandwhich and it tastes great and the same, here, in OR and in San Fran. I've had a few mix ups here since I've eaten here for years and at least two dozen times, but the hosts are always quick to fix it. If you don't take part of their rewards program, it's a pretty decent program for a food joint! Visiting this veggie grill makes me sad that I don't have one closer to me! This is a winner whenever we come up to the University village. Whether we are craving solid vegan comfort food or something healthier, we can get something delicious here. Service was friendly, restaurant is clean with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating (with heating), and a clean bathroom. I got the kale power salad with tempeh and my husband got the Reuben. It was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!! The tempeh was sooo perfectly cooked and for a bowl, it was so satisfying. My husband's Reuben was soooo tasty. It's better than what I remember meat reubens taste like. The only critique was that it was small for him. It's a weird day when you catch me at a vegetarian/vegan place, but I'll do my best to be fair at least, given that I'm a huge carnivore. Upon arrival around 4pm Sunday the food wait was 30 mins coming out from the kitchen. The Tempura Green beans were the best, addicting and crispy with a good garlic ranch sauce (so good I dipped my regular fries into it). The Sante Fe "Chicken" sandwich was good, but I imagined it to be a healthier (more bland) McChicken with avocado and whole wheat bun. Looking back at my photo, they actually forgot the spicy mayo on it, but I was probably too hungry to care. The Mediterranean salad was not my cup of tea. The falafels (only 3 included) are actually well seasoned with spices, but the salad and soggy flat bread leave more to be desired. Take my ideally meat-eating 2 cents for what it's worth. Will I come back to try their "burgers"....for the expected taste and price probably not, but it's a healthy option out there. For a healthier version of fast food, this is a good option. Great place for vegetarians and those looking for healthy options. It's a walkup order and then you get a number and then you find a seat. We ordered the Mac and cheese and side salad for grandma, taco salad for grandpa, chicken fingers and fries for my son and my husband and I shared the corn bisque and chicken Adobo bowl. The chicken was not chicken but a tofu substitute. So make sure you read the descriptions carefully since this place is primarily vegetarian. The chicken strips for my son was real chicken. The strawberry lemonade was really good. Definitely the highlight. Overall it was a good option. I liked it, but the rest of the family wasn't a fan. So depends on how you feel about vegetarian fare. I would say 4 stars but the rest of the family said 3 so I was outnumbered on this one. So if you like vegetarian options, this place is pretty good. First review: The food would've been good except I specifically asked for no cilantro in my sandwich to go, and I checked with them before taking it "no cilantro right?" And they confirmed. I get in my car, drive away, open the sandwich and take a bite. Full of cilantro. Update: the manager was extremely kind and apologetic and offered me a free entree at my next visit. I went to get the entree and they even threw in my limeade for free. Their customer service continued to be wonderful, as one employee even offered me a to go cup for a refill before I left. I recently tried the 'Beyond Beef burger' which is touted to be very beef-like, complete with sort of a burger-bloodiness, which I hear they achieve by using beets I think? anyhow, does it beat any respectable real burger? of course not! but its the best approximation of a burger I have had! other stuff tried: hail kale salad: tasty salad with candied walnuts tempura green beans: how do you make anything better? deep fry it! yum! the staff always seems so friendly and happy to be there! maybe the lack of meat in their diet keeps them smiling? I love Veggie Grill and prefer this location to the other 2 in the area as it has a parking lot. It can be crazy at U Village and you may have to park a distance away from the actual location and walk. This place is always crowded which makes me very happy, I love that others are enjoying veg food as much as I do, especially when they are non vegetarians. I recently had to convince someone that this was in fact a vegan restaurant as they thought it was more of a healthy place and served chicken. Once I saw a famous person while dining here. Sometimes the hectic pace of this place does leave the tables a little dirty. I love that the menu is always changing and having seasonal specials. My long term favorites are the buffalo wings and the carrot cake, I love the later so much that I often just drop in and buy one to go even if I am not hungry. I also really like the seasonal beef barley soup and I am dying to try the new VG Beyond Burger. I will admit that I have had many items here that are not crave worthy, but I don't believe there is a comparable veg restaurant in Washington and I am more than happy to try to eat my way thru the entire menu. My non veg bf and non veg bff are also huge fans and are usually easily persuaded to join me in a meal here. Although perhaps my friend mistakes this for healthy food, which might be hard to argue. I love the efforts VG makes to get non vegs to try their food. I enjoy the promotions they have on seasonal items. The MVP emails often encourage you to come in and try a new item with a special discount. It also usually includes a birthday surprise. Man, I am sad to update my review, but I have had some issues at this place lately. This is a restaurant I frequent because it is close by and accommodates my vegetarian parents. The first incident was when I ordered Korea Street Tacos, something I frequently order, and the presentation was sloppy. They were difficult to eat without making a crazy mess, even by normal taco-eating standards. I was willing to let this slide and gave U Village VG another change. Then a couple weeks later, my husband and I both got the BBQ fried chicken platter, and both of us received extremely cold food. Then just the other day my B-Wing salad was missing avocado. The woman sitting at the table behind me alerted a server that her meal was also missing avocado. She received a pretty unfriendly and confused response, so I decided to keep my complaint to myself. I have to say that the B-Wing salad was super spicy without the avocado to complement it. My husband also got a completely different item than what he ordered. He ordered the Backyard Spicy Fried Chicken Bowl but I think received some variation of the Filipino Chickin' Adobo Bowl. I also had to exchange my drink cup because there was food and a foreign hair in it. I don't usually think that's a big deal, but when I exchanged it, the employee was frazzled and said she was running low on cups. Anyways, I hope to see some resolution to these issues, because I would hate to see the U Village Veggie Grill go downhill. My friend and I swung by for a casual, late-ish dinner around 8 on a Tuesday and I was immediately overwhelmed by all the options... I'm not used to being able to consume nearly everything on a menu! I should have perused the menu before attempting to blindly select my dinner at the counter. Thankfully it wasn't super busy and no one was waiting in line behind us. I ended up going with the House Veggie Burger ($10.95), which included a house made black bean and mushroom patty, pepper jack "cheese," arugula, pickled onion, roasted baby tomatoes, and chipotle aioli on a toasted wheat bun. We took our number and chose a table outside. Our food was ready in 10ish minutes? Idk it wasn't super duper fast but not slow either. Overall the burger was decent but not amazingg. There were some tasty flavors going on, and the patty + cheese and aioli were pretty good. I do like pickled onion and arugula, so no complaints there. Cherry tomatoes do not belong on a burger though--they kept rolling out onto my plate. I prefer the flavor of fresh sliced tomato too. The bun was a bit dry... I would swap in a brioche bun and regular sliced tomatoes next time, if possible. And request more sauce to moisten it up a bit. Avocado would be a tasty addition of course! I had a bite of my friend's Crispy Buffalo Chick'n Sandwich ($11.25), which included crispy chick'n topped with creamy ranch, buffalo sauce, lettuce, tomato and pickles on a brioche bun. The Buffalo Chick'n Sandwich was a bit better overall, although I don't know if I'd want to necessarily consume an entire sandwich of this variety. TLDR: Healthy. Good food. Mix fountain drinks. Some plates are dirty. Walk in, order at the register, find a table, wait for food, and eat. Average noise. Sometimes it's hard to find a free table during peak hours. I do have to mention that the plates were not as clean as the place seemed. Plates felt a bit sticky and had a brown hue that was easily rubbed off. Not sure if the plates are being cleaned properly. A bit off-putting for such a nice place. A tip for getting drinks: mix it up! Make a lemon tea by mixing 1/2 and 1/2 of lemonade and a tea of your choice! The sky's the limit! All Hail Kale: crispy and so healthy it hurts. It tastes really good but after the 3/4 mark you start to feel that surge of health and too much of a good thing really is bad for you. I recommend getting the 1/2 All Hail Kale with snack combo to mix things up because a plate of pure kale salad is just too much in my opinion. Power Salad: Personally, I prefer this over the All Hail Kale. It's got more substance and the quinoa helps counter all that kale. Plus the mint is a nice touch. What I find nice about this place is that take-out boxes are provided for your convenience near the fountain drinks. Just grab one, pack up, and go. No waiting to flag a waiter down to get a box or a check (since you pay up front). read more
