Good, but nowhere near as good as my first visit. This time the Island salad was almost entirely cucumbers. Very odd! The broccoli "beef" and brown rice hot pot were pretty good. Best Vietnamese vegetarian and vegan food! My meat eating husband and I shared the tofu egg rolls, the shaking "beef" and the vegetable chow mein with tofu, "chicken", and "beef". The egg rolls were very crispy and hearty, while the chow mein was very proportionate with all of its ingredients. I thought the "beef" balls were a little oily, but he enjoyed them. Service is very friendly and helpful with choosing a dish. Although the server never came over to ask how the food was, I guess they could tell from behind the counter we liked it. We were able to summon the waiter over to get the bill (very reasonable) and I let him know that although the chow mein had mushrooms, (despite my request) my husband ate them and the food was delicious. 100% vegetarian, mostly vegan, mostly tasty (4/5 Green Stars, also). Veggie today is pretty casual and brightly lit, so it has more of a café atmosphere than an intimate restaurant. We had four items and thought that two or three of them were good. The foo young appetizer was a highlight - it was large but not as heavy as other versions that I've had in the past, and had good flavor and a little crunch. The wonton soup was mixed: good flavor in the soup but maybe too heavy on salt (I was so thirsty after it!) and the wonton wrappers were a bit thick (but the filling was good!). The caramelized vegan chicken had good flavor and a nice chewy texture but the dish could have done with a bit more spinach (to justify being called a "bed of spinach" on the menu). The tamarind beef was our least favorite - it was just too sweet for both of us. But other people seem to love that dish so don't let me put you off ordering it; perhaps it's just me - I've rarely found a vegan "beef" dish that I love. Vegan chicken (or just good-old tofu) always seems like a better bet. Both of the protein dishes were pretty light on veggies (esp. the tamarind beef) so bear that in mind when ordering. I'd like to go back and discover some favorites. I'm also giving Veggies Today 4/5 "green stars" for social and environmental impact, based on these reasons: * As stated on their menu: 100% vegetarian. * Almost all items on the menu are vegan (check with your server). The wonton soup is specifically labeled on the menu as not vegan so I think there are only a few dishes that are not vegan. * As anyone who's trying to go plant-based knows, restaurants where you can order almost anything on the menu are a blessing for the movement! * No information about sourcing on the menu (e.g., is the tofu organic?). That's the main downside for me - I like my tofu to be organic, if possible (rice & veggies too). * Drinks are provided by Coke (so they could do better there, but they do have tea). * For people getting take-out, they use standard Chinese take-out boxes and plastic bags (a third area for improvement: compostable boxes and paper bags). I mean Veggies are good for you right. :) My friend hit me and was like lets go eat but I want it to be healthy. So, I said well let's try Veggie today since I had it book marked. We walked in and it wasn't too busy. The place is small but cute. We got our menus and began browsing. I kept seeing dishes on the menu mentioning meat. With all due respect it's not meat so PLEASE don't call it that. I settled for a vegetable dish with brown rice on the side. The food to me was bland and tasted like cardboard. I would have been much happier eating veg at an indian restaurant where I would have more flavors. The egg rolls had no flavor I had to put soy sauce and other sauces to liven it up. I also could not justify paying $9 for my meal full of vegetables. The sad part was I got hungry an hour later. Another bummer was that the very nice waiter we had couldnt name all the veggies in my dish prior to me ordering. I think I will take my $9 and buy my own vegetables to eat all week long. read more

Im not a vegetarian, But this place was phenomenal! Their food was superb. I ordered Curry Vegetables, and I have to say, I was impressed. It was tasty, cooked well, and had many good veggies, which I enjoyed. I asked for no mushrooms. They served the food hot, and fresh. All meals are to go, but still very fresh. This is a great find! It's in the bland, Arian, Asian inspired food, everything was very flavorful. The waiter was very patient and explaining things to us. We have. Had the broccoli beef, the spicy noodle soup, eggplant, and basil and vegetable sauté with vegan chicken. They were all very tasty and these particular dishes are all gluten-free as well. Wondering if I caught them on a bad day... The combo soup was really good - fresh ingredients and tasty, but it was all downhill after that. The drumsticks appetizer just didn't have good texture or flavor and the included sauce couldn't save them. My Mongolian chicken didn't look nearly as fresh as the other photos I saw on Yelp - the bell peppers were that faded color that definitely makes me think they were out of a can, and the whole dish wasn't particularly flavorful as a result. Salt & Pepper Shrimp was bomb - reminded me of a jalapeño cheese popper. Loved the veggies too, reminds me of Thai mango salad. I'd come back just for this dish. Spicy vermicelli curry - kind of sweet but I liked it. The potatoes were bomb. I just wish there were more noodles, I felt like there was barely any noodles. I had been waiting for VT to open up for dine-in ever since the start of the pandemic. They're finally open for dine in again and I know I'll be coming quite often. I love their spicy noodle soup! That's my go to every time I eat at this restaurant. It's a little spicy, flavorful, hot and comforting. Not only does it contain the noodles and vegan beef, it also has tofu, veggie meatballs (very tasty), and is garnished with thinly sliced onion, jalapeño and sprouts. It's perfect for the cold winter weather. The restaurants ambience is usually calm and quiet, which I appreciate. I like to have Friday dinner dates here for this exact reason. This is my favorite Asian vegan place in the east bay. This place is able to mimic delicious authentic Vietnamese dishes with plant based proteins and flavoring. Also, the best part is that their dishes are not oily like other places for dishes like: bun bo hue, stir fry noodles, egg rolls, etc. Our go to orders are curry chicken, lotus salad, veggie combo soup, bun bo hue, and curry soup. In quick summary: delicious. Found Veggie Today on Yelp and decided to give them a try. Small restaurant in the middle of a block of other restaurants, with maybe 12 tables. Very friendly service. We didn't know what to order having never dined before, and settled on the lemon grass chicken ginger chicken, salt and pepper shrimp (omg!), and brown rice. My beloved favorite Thai restaurant who shall remain nameless because of my love them, has been dethroned on the curry tip! The ginger chicken o-m-g! Absolute best I've had! I have no idea how the cook made soy taste like chicken chicken but God bless 'em! The potatoes were cooked down perfectly, not too soft not too firm as were the carrots. Service was enough for three meals (hello leftover heaven!). Curry "sauce" had the right thickness, not thin but not overly thick/stiff. My sister had the lemongrass chicken and said it was ok (I did taste it). The salt and pepper shrimp was the star of the night. I literally got out of my seat, walked to the counter and demanded the chef give up the recipe and tell me how soy tastes like shrimp lol. Family secret. Boooo oh well I tried! Sorry to be such a killjoy and mess up all these five star reviews but I just can't do it. I ordered the Mongolian beef and I did not like it at all. The texture of the meat was just too weird for me and the sauce was sickly sweet. I didn't find the white rice that great either. I couldn't eat my dish so my husband kindly swapped his spicy noodle soup with me. His soup was much better. Even the 'meat' texture didn't seem quite so bad. I do have a knack for picking the worst thing on the menu so I'll definitely give this place another try but I expected better with so many five star reviews. You can clearly see we did not touch the soup as it was way to sweet to eat, and when we told the waiter he said that they always make it that way. This is an amazing vegan restaurant that is hidden in Concord! Ambience: the place looks old and wore down but that is part of the charm. (FYI: the passed Health inspection report was posted on the wall. Good sign!). The service was great attentive and quick. The food: they don't say anywhere on the menu but everything here is vegan. We got chicken drumsticks and I swear it looked like a chicken! Two chicken curry dishes were amazing so was the eggplant basil. Both the fried rice and chow mein were good. But I preferred the rice, since the chow mein was over cooked. What I really liked about all the dishes, was that every single one had a unique taste. They didn't just add salt or soy sauce to give it flavor. I tasted turmeric, ginger, peppers, curry etc. I loved the way they used spices and made every dish to taste different. 3years ago I started this tradition that I have to give up something for a week during Lent season. So those years im only eating vegetarian food for a week until Easter. We were at Concord area and starting to get hungry so we end up looking for a place that served vegetarian food and we found this. (Thanks yelp!) I gotta say im Wowed! Was one of the first vegan potato curry's I've had and it's still up there as one of the best. And please try the "foo young", it is an absolute must. All non-vegans I bring here love that dish; probably because it has the fried crunchy goodness they're use to. Oh, and the Sweet and Sour soup is really really good! Came on a Friday at 1240 pm. I ordered the salt and pepper squid $13.50 for shrimp but I was craving it. Also brown rice. The shrimp looks deep fried or at least fried. Texture is a bit off but it is vegan. So great for being vegan. The entree came with veggies underneath cauliflower, green bell peppers, broccoli,carrots and zucchini. The veggies were dresses in a sweet and sour type sauce. I was not expecting the sauce Taste was Good but I did not expect the sweet and sour sauce. I would not order again not because it was not good but because I did not want the shrimp fried I give five stars because I want to come back and try other entrees. Service was great. We were very pleasantly surprised by this restaurant! I've eaten a lot of vegan/vegetarian food and tend to not eat the meat replacements, but decided to try the Ginger Chicken. It was delicious! The flavors were delicious and the vegetables (broccoli and carrots) were cooked perfectly, not too crunchy, not overcooked and soggy (which is almost impossible to find or do!). My husband had the Curried Fried Rice with brown rice, and again, delicious, interesting flavors. I typically eat gluten free because of an intolerance but forgot to ask, and suspect the meat replacement probably isn't gf. But I would eat whatever they serve that's gluten free, the flavors are so good! Excellent service. We will definitely be going back! read more
