The cheesy crema in the cheeseburger had a bit of smokiness to it that was kinda addicting. I liked the thick slice of radish too. The lo mein noodles, made with zucchini and kelp, were tossed in a dressing that was slightly sweet from the raisin sauce. Raw vegan food places are one in the few, but they are definitely up and coming. When I searched on Yelp the name Veggos was familiar since I always buy their raw onion bread (available at Mother's market, Erewon, and Rainbow Acres). I was excited there was a small cafe tucked away in a strip mall in Lake Forest. There is plenty of parking and seating. They aren't open for many hours so make sure you check before you go. We saw a lot of people ordering for pick up. You're greeted by friendly Ron when you walk in and he is a great owner who is preparing what you order as well. The prices are so much more affordable than most vegan places and they have dessert as well. If you love their onion bread get it here because it's fresh and cheaper than the markets. The tapas were a good way too try the main items and the cheeseburger and pizza were my favorite! Ron is so hospitable and made sure everything we order was to our liking. We left with some desserts for home, onion bread, and the onion toppers which are delicious on salads or any bowls. I can accept the prices if it was sit down with white tablecloths, but it's not. It's fast food. He said he can't control yelp's inaccurate price posting, I guess it lures vegans in. He said his website has accurate prices and he didn't apologize for how high they are. Everything was several dollars more and then the menu he handed me. Couldn't get a small to medium sized meal (lunch) for one $10, nor $15, nor $20. Everything is over $20. When the perfect vegan Democratic for the restaurant walks in hungry (& can't afford to eat & drink for under $25) leaves hungry while Food rotts in the kitchen. Can't comment on the taste nor appearance of the food as none was ordered. Never got past the fact that it's not a good value. Too bad, I wasted gas attempting to try this place. Finally got to try this place out for lunch today-- I had it bookmarked for a long time! My mom and I got the tapas plate which includes a smaller portion of the lo mein, hummus sandwich and burger. My mom and I both loved the hummus sandwich -- it comes on a crispy onion cracker/bread and has hummus, tomato and avocado. The other dishes were okay but not great. The service was good, especially considering only one person was working. I was glad we came when it wasn't busy! I gave it 4 stars because it is fairly high in price for what you get. The tapas plate was $12. Also, they have a fish tank up at the front register and the water and tank were filthy. It really bothered me how poorly taken care of the fish were. Even with our last disappointing raw/vegan experience still fresh in our minds (expensive and not good), hubby was a little less open-minded about coming to Veggos. Eventually, he gave in and agreed to visit with me on the condition that if it wasn't good, we would have to go to Sizzler's down the road for dinner #2. Thankfully, Veggos was as tasty as its Yelp rating indicates. We ordered all the recommended things - caprese stack, hummus sandwich and the v'gos cheeseburger. All were super tasty and I was very impressed with the cashew cheese and the pesto used in the caprese stack. Hubby had the mixed veggie soup with his hummus sandwich and I got the salad with green onion dressing. Surprising, hubby's soup was not "raw". It was cooked veggies, hot and almost had a meaty quality. It was overseasoned (read: salty) but otherwise delicious. I also enjoyed my side salad. The green onion dressing was a great combination of light and almost creamy. I almost asked for extra! They could do a little more with the ambiance of the place...softer lights? Nothing else was really wrong with it but it almost felt like we were eating in a small industrial warehouse or storage room. I'm glad we tried Veggos though we don't see ourselves eating this type of food on a regular basis.
