TL;DR: delicious and affordable raw vegan food, but take it to-go. This place is an anomaly for south Orange County: a vegan/raw foods place that is actually affordable. The quality of the food is great, but the menu is quite small (4-5 appetizers, 4-5 entrees to choose from). However, the portions were generous and the prices were fair. I had half of a house salad, which was $4.95 with balsamic apple vinaigrette. The dressing didn't remind me of balsamic vinegar or apples, but it was good nonetheless, and the salad took up the entire plate. My friend/lunch partner got the hummus sandwich, which was $7-8 and awesome-ly messy to eat. It was topped with nearly half an avocado and came with a vegetable/lettuce medley salad. The restaurant is casual and take-out style, but my friend and I sat there for three and a half hours talking. I think I saw maybe 5-10 other customers during my time there -- it's not a very busy place at all. I think most of their customers come in for shakes/smoothies rather than food. I would not recommend dining in, especially for a long period of time like I did, because the smoothie machine is explosively loud and in use about every 5 minutes. The customer service wasn't stellar -- when I got there, there was one person behind the counter making a smoothie for an invisible customer. She took a few minutes to come up to the register. While we were ordering she wasn't friendly or helpful and seemed interested in getting the transaction over with as quickly as possible. read more

I am writing this review as a non-Vegan. Also as someone who has a high palette for flavor and who has been blessed to travel the world and taste some of the best food of all traditions. Taste: We had the "laguna Pizza" and the "hamburger". Both vegan and raw. They were very tasty and filling. My wife and I were blown away and frankly surprised about how great it tasted. Service: This is a very small place and owner operated. The owner is very kind and is passionate about his work. Price: Very reasonable. Good price. Location/ambiance: Clean. But not a cute place. But it's a great balance with the food and owner's hard work. Meaning it's clear he has put in his heart and soul and therefore something has to give. Raw/Vegan does not provide as high of foot traffic sadly as does a steak or burger joint so he has to balance the cost of quality food vs. nice decor. This is my personal opinion. This actually made me appreciate the food even more. Overall: Amazing taste. Felt great after eating the food. My 1 month of raw diet is making me thinner with high energy. I love this place! Excellent food, it's SO filling and keeps you full for hours but you feel incredibly light! Not sluggish at all like cooked food! You need to read this! Currently, I spend about two days a week deep in OC ( Irvine ) and am usually met with a challenge. Where the hell do I eat?! Yelp is always helpful and of course, my old stand by's Mother's & Whole Foods can get old but sort me out if need be. I like anything that boasts an exclusively plant based menu and the Raw Movement is one I am now beginning to consider. Thus, off to Veggos I ventured. Menu is minimal and matches the interior of this somber strip mall situation. For crying out loud, they are missing half their ceiling squares and the walls are rather puke green. Never a good look for an eatery. The fellow behind the counter takes your order, makes your order and is polite enough that I don't wish to give a negative review. Aside from not scooping my avocado out if it's goddamned shell!! Who does that?! I opt for the "CheeseBurger" which is full of mushroom, other greens and a pretty tasty sauce situation which I can only compare to cashew cheese. Salad was good and their home made hot sauce was tasty. They serve it on a flat onion bun which adds to the texture And flavor. Room temp water at every table. Raw food is definitely a new experience for most people. If you haven't had it before, Veggos is a great introduction. The service is very fast (since they don't have to cook anything in the usual sense of "cooking", and they weren't too busy), and the prices are great. It's worth noting that there isn't traditional "bread" or "chips" here, since those are not raw. Instead, the bread is more like a cracker made of dehydrated onions. Don't be scared, it doesn't taste overpoweringly oniony. We started with the nachos. They're individual pieces of the onion crackers, topped with familiar things like guacamole and salsa. But the best part is the creamy Mexican style cheesy sauce on top. These are worth getting for that cheese alone. It's probably the best vegan cheese I've ever had. You can even buy a cup of it to take home, which I'm probably going to do next time we're there. I had the lo mein. It's not like traditional pasta because the veggie-based noodles are more like glass noodles than anything else. It also has pieces of red cabbage and red pepper, all in a sweet sauce. And it's much more filling than you'd expect. The entrees come with a side of soup or salad. I had the soup of the day, which was mung bean. I'd never tried mung bean soup before. It reminded me a lot of lentils. My husband had the salad, with an excellent apple balsamic dressing. He also got the cheeseburger, which he loved. If there is one thing that really sets Veggos apart from other vegan restaurants, it's the awesome cheeses they have here. Do yourself a favor and try it. read more

Best raw/vegan foods in Orange County! And yes, that include Au Lac. Let me first start by stating that I'm a meat eater. If they've walked, crawled, climbed, or swam anywhere on this earth, I'm all over it. I especially love a nice med rare filet mignon with a red wine reduction/blue cheese sauce over the top. Having said that, I really enjoy the foods at VEGGOS. I don't know how the chef does it, but his plates are amazing. I have tried several items off the menu, and I can honestly say that I've thoroughly enjoyed them all. I especially love the caprese stacks from the appetizer section. From the mains, I've had the v'gos cheeseburger, the laguna pizza, and the hummus sandwich. All were delicious. And... they filled me up. Chef also creates some fantastic desserts. Go for the chocolate. They're not too sweet and offer a perfect ending for the palate. The only negatives: the ambiance is quite spartan, and he serves on paper plates. We have been waiting a LONG time to try this restaurant.... We are not Vegans, so you have to REALLY impress us to enjoy a vegan meal. We were over-the-top excited and pleased with our first experience.... The atmosphere is very welcoming, brightly colored annd clean, with a large family-style table at one end. There are many regulars...and we met one guy, Aaron, who made suggestions, raved about the food and brought excitement to our adventure. Our first attempt at ordering, we chose the Tapas Platter, which had a selection of 3 items from the regular menu (oriental lomein, hummus sandwhich and v'gos cheeseburger). We also shared a BLT and a Laguna Pizza. Most meals come with a side of soup or salad.... We decided to get the special butternut squash soup with one meal and try 2 different dressings on another side salad, the balsamic and the green dill-herb dressing (cannot remember exact names of dressings). WOW!! We dove into the first dish, after taking pictures. I was instantly smitten with the delicious lomein, which had a nutty, tahini style sauce, peppers and was served cold. Was spectacular. My son fell in love with the Laguna Pizza. It comes with 2 slices that are really filling, but he wanted a double portion. We were blown away by the bread, which was a dark bread with dry, carmelized onions embedded in it for texture and deliciousness... Most dishes are made with this bread. I found the BLT staggeringly delicious. It was served with 3 layers of what looked like Humus, but had various textures...served in a lettuce wrap. There was tomato flavor comming through and meaty flavor, along with the crisp and deliciousness of the veggies and lettuce wrap. We also had the soup, slightly sweet and lower salt, served piping hot and my son licked the cup, clean. The hummus sandwhich was also delcious, serrved with sliced avocado and tomato. The dressings complimented the salad...with one sweeter (the green) and another more tart (balsamic). I just ate so much and felt incredibly lite and healthy. I was not hungry later....despite filling up on veggies and liter foods. We got to meet the owner, who was a long-time RN, deciding to eat healthier and take on a new way of life for his own health, creating such an amazing restaurant....with prices that anyone can afford on a regular basis. It's about $8 - $10 a plate...and that satisfies most appetites. It's a great addition to eating healthier and being good to your body! MUST TRY EVERYTHING.... I'm literally freaking out right now as I'm eating at Veggos raw vegan deli! EVERYTHING is homemade from their almond milk to their salad dressings. EVERYTHING is raw, sugar free, gluten free, and dairy free! And when they say sugar free they mean it. They don't use artificial sweeteners, just fruit to sweeten their smoothies, juices, shakes, raw brownies, .... I'm telling you... this place is the most legitly healthy place I've been to that doesn't compromise on health OR taste in any aspect I got the cheeseburger (made with a nutty patty and onion "bread") and it came with an amazing raw salad with apple balsamic vinegar for only $8.50! We really enjoyed Veggos. We split the hummus sandwich, a nacho appetizer and the pumpkin soup. Then a tasty chocolate shake for desert. All delicious. Really nice and knowledgable staff, great service. If you want to try something different, light, nutritious, very healthy and fresh then give Veggos a try. Phenomenal raw vegan food! The Laguna Pizza with a salad was so fresh and delicious! Very reasonable prices. I also had a healthy V9 juice with all sorts of greens to wash it all down with more nutritional goodness. I'm so glad that I was persistent as Google Maps led me a block away, but look for the Smart N Final, as Veggos is next to it. Ron, the owner/chef/dishwasher and is everything in between does an amazing job working alone to make such fabulous food while running the restaurant. I was disappointed to say the least. I read the reviews and had VERY high hopes. I've been a vegetarian for over a decade and I love trying new vegan/veggie places. I got the avocado/tomato "sandwich" and it came on 1 "slice" of "bread" (cracker) that I can only assume they had been stock piling from 1990 when your mom was eating these stale-tasting crackers for weight loss. It wasn't pricier than any other veggie place but that's a given when you find a little gem. It was, however, down-right expensive for a piece of cracker, a slice of tomato and avocado. It was late, I was starving though, and so I took my order to go and I asked if I could have another cracker for the top of my "sandwich". The person behind the counter looked at me confused, paused awkwardly, and blatantly said "no, but you can buy a bag [of 6] over there for $6." Small strip mall restaurant with a simple menu. I had the taco, which is wrapped in a big leaf of lettuce as opposed to a tortilla. The hummus and avocado pair really well together, along with what seemed like an almond-based spread. My girlfriend had the "cheeseburger," which was good, but I liked my taco better. I was curious to try this little eatery. I went in around 3pm, after the rush of the day. The cashier was friendly and courteous; answered questions I had about ingredients. I wanted a snack, so I chose the onion "bread" which is onions, sunflower seeds and flax baked into a cracker and bagged for $6. I thought would go perfectly with my cashew dip, which was a blend of herbs, spices, cashews and red peppers. It has a smooth texture and perfect for the onion cracker bread. I also picked up a banana chocolate pie. It tastes overwhelmingly like overripe bananas, which isn't pleasing to me, but that's my opinion. If you like banana, this is a wonderful dessert option. I also picked up a slice of cheesecake and it is very nice. I could see it topped with fresh fruit or a fruit sauce, and it would go over the top. I like that they have a cold case on the left right as you walk in, filled with desserts and salads and dips to go. Great for the person on the go. All in all, a nice little place-props to them for going for it and offering a full vegan menu (although as of late, they also offer poke bowls). The vegan pizza was flavorful but it fell apart so easily and the serving was not enough to satisfy me for lunch. My order came with a side of soup or salad, so I went with soup. The soup of the day was veggie soup and it was awful. I imagine this tasted like the mush they serve in prison, nutritious but not delicious. I've had good tasting vegan dishes before and I was hoping this would be a good spot, but I was slightly disappointed. The place was empty when I got there at lunch time on a workday, but the man was very hospitable and nice, so that's a plus. The place is very clean and there's plenty of tables to sit and enjoy lunch. I originally wanted Veggie Grill for lunch, but this place is much closer to my job, so I decided to try it out. I am a vegetarian, not vegan, and not gluten free- but I would consider it after tonight. I had the tapas, which consisted of a burger, lo mein, and a hummus sandwich. I also had the nachos, the berry lemonade, and the pumpkin spice ice cream. I am not a fan of lo mein in general, but it was tasty. The burger was incredible, take it from someone who has tried every veggie burger in Orange County. The hummus sandwich was was perfect. I thought that this place would just be a lower quality version of Veggie Grill, but after coming here I think it's way better. A bit hard to find, but this place is really delicious. Cheap, tasty and vegan, can't get better than that! I ordered the pizza, which had this really delicious tomato sauce and fake "cheese." I couldn't believe how tasty something could be without meat! Even if you are a dedicated carnivore like I am, you will find something here that you like. The food came with a really tasty veggie soup. My partner got the "noodle" salad, which had a really nice gingery kick to it. When we arrived, it was before lunch so we didn't have to wait to get any seating, but I can see how more people might come later considering this is the only vegan restaurant in the area. I've been to other vegan restaurants and they charged a lot more for food that wasn't as tasty and is not raw. Next time I come here, I will definitely try some of their smoothies.
