We came in from lexington and found it was well worth the trip. I hadn't even heard of this restuarant. Great goodness! !! 2 ribeyes for $24.99. I'll take 2 of those for sure. I actually got mine cooked rare which is one of the few times I've ever had it cooked just right. It was tender, juicy and flavorful. Our waitress was great too. If I ever have to choose my last meal in earth, Vella's Blue Mountain (blue cheese) Raw Fries would be on the menu. Beer is cheapest in town -even when they aren't running their specials. They usually have 2-3 southern local craft beers on drought too. Only complaint is that the women's room door doesn't shut completely; you don't want to sit by it or you will have a nice view of the stalls and women washing their hands. read more

Neat place. They have a good burger, and their shrimp night is good. The food was a bit heavy and a little greasy, but I enjoy that kind of thing. They have some neat nightly specials too. It's kind of a neighborhood bar and grill with a little more emphasis on the food. I wish they were open on Sunday, it seems like a good place to catch a game. read more

Vella's is a great place to eat and hang out! When you're there you will feel like you're part of a big family, and the food is surprisingly awesome! Try the Vella's Special (think Groucho's dipper or Andy's Deli special, but better), the hamburger steak (covered in onions and peppers mmmmmm!), the spicy fried chicken sandwich (better than Chick Fil A), the buffalo shrimp, or the shrimp Caesar salad. Really, try anything to eat there. You won't be disappointed. Check their online menu for nightly specials. Monday is all you can eat crablegs, which I have yet to try. Tuesday is 50 cent wings. Wednesday is a draft beer special (skip this - see below). One word of advice though, their draft beers are NOT good. I don't know if their pipes are moldy or what, but if you get beer, get it in a bottle. All in all, Vella's is a friendly place with great food for a good price. I love it! :] read more

I've gone here many times since I moved to the Cayce/Columbia area and always get the Vella Special. It's a great sandwich but it can be hit or miss. Some days it's loaded and others it's more bread than anything. Seems off since it's the restaurants named sandwich. The deals are a great value though. read more

This neighborhood restaurant has been serving up sandwiches, salads, wings and steaks for as long as I can remember. Service is fast and the food is consistently on par. Not fine dining, but a friendly bar atmosphere. Simple, consistent and good. read more

Today for lunch I ordered a chicken club, grilled, fries and Cole slaw. The slaw was warm, the fires tasted like they were a day old and the sandwich was at best completely tasteless. If you're looking to go where the locals go in Cayce, SC this place is it. If you go there a few times, you'll notice a lot of regulars, who have probably been going there since their teens. My parent were both born and raised in West Columbia, and have eaten there for years, and passed this gem down to me. The food is affordable, and you can't beat their sandwiches. My personal favorite is the Vella's Special (turkey, roast beef, provolone cheese, bacon bits and Vella's special sauce) with raw fries. Their wings are also good, and don't forget Monday is crab leg night! If you're looking for something lighter, try the grilled chicken dinner which comes with a salad and a side of your choice. The service is great, and the waitresses work hard to please. The owner, Walt, is super nice. Also, it's a great place to come to watch nearly any sports game, and just relax with friends. This is a little hole in the wall. It's got intimate lighting, and is comfy and quiet. Parking is easy, the booths are comfortable, and it's convenient to downtown. It has a full bar and the specials looked great. The hostess was super friendly and took the time to answer questions I had about the menu. The waitress was very friendly and attentive and our food came out very quickly even though they had a fair amount of patrons during peak dinner hour. I loved that there was a diverse group of diners--not just a set regular crowd. There were families and big groups and couples and folks watching tv and people talking. It had a very intimate atmosphere though, and it's not a very big place. It's dimly lit, though, if that's a problem for you. While it may not look like much outside, inside was clean, the food was fresh and delicious and my cup was always full. I had a steak salad that was seasoned perfectly. I found a fennel seed--yup there it was! I found the secret ingredient. It was deliciously flavored, not too much but complicated and yummy and om nom. I will be back, and can't believe it took me this long to go in the first place. read more

I went there on a date, his pick. There was a bug crawling on the wall right by our booth! It was a small cockroach so I know there are plenty more. I was half-way through my meal and lost my appetite. The staff shrugged it off. They did not seem surprised. My burger was overcooked and my date got grilled shrimp. I would hardly call them grilled. The fried appetizer was safe but absolutely nothing more than dive bar status. The place was busy, it seemed that everyone knew eachother. It seemed like more of a locals spot for an older crowd who doesn't know or care about dust, bugs or food... Just alcohol. Don't waste your time. read more

This is your typical local restaurant. Some appetizers, burgers, steaks, and some seafood. We ate there for lunch on 4/30/15 and I would rate it good. Had the chicken tender dinner. It comes with a small salad and a side. Salad was a good size. Raw fries as the side were cooked good, but were a little greasy. The portion of chicken was perfect for lunch. Wait staff was very attentive and friendly. Another member of the party had the ribeye sandwich and said it was cooked perfectly. The other two members had the chef salads and seemed to like theirs as well. Will try Vella's again and maybe go with one of their burgers. For under $10, not including drink, it was a fairly decent lunch spot. read more

I called in an order for 10 wings. Once I arrived to pick up I saw that there were specials being offered that were cheaper that they didn't bother to mention. But I paid and left anyway. Got home and the wings tasted old (like they were cooked earlier that day and just reheated & tossed in sauce). I called and spoke with the manager who stated he could re-make my order. I sent my daughter to return the previous order and pick up the new. Needless to say, she returned with equally crappy wings. I wasn't in the mood to argue. Not to mention, their version of mild wings (medium) is just to make them sweeter. RME... After a long day at work, I just had a tuna sandwich and called it a night. Great spot to grab lunch. Really enjoy the fried buffalo chicken sandwich with raw fries. The wings are very good. Only wish they offered a wing basket with raw fries! Overall, mediocre experience. The place described itself a family place, but the closer you get to the bar, the farther away I would keep the kids. Not a great family environment with the cussing from staff as well as from drunken customers. I know its a bar, there will b drunks, but don't advertise as a family place if you are not willing to handle the drunks. The bathrooms are in poor condition as when I went in, one toilet leaked around the base(Ew!) And the other simply would not flush.Our meal was decent, service was okay. But this won't be a recurring family activity. I think this place is best suited for single middle aged people, and people wanting to watch a football game. Never been for lunch but the dinner experience has deterred me from returning for dinner. read more

Love the food, always have!! The food there is amazing and the prices there you just can't beat. Last Friday I went there and had a ribeye sandwich for $10!! It was amazing!! Happy hour prices are really good too. $1.50 draft beer or $3 liquor drinks. The decor needs to be updated a little in my opinion in certain spots of the restaurant.
