Publick House is a really cool restaurant, the ambiance is very old-school cool, and the service is usually pretty good as well. Although I don't personally eat wings, this is my friends' and family's go-to place for the best wings in Columbia. I mainly get the mozzarella sticks, chicken tenders, and fries, which are for the most part above average, although a little hit-or-miss. They have a great selection of beers, and their hand-made liquor drinks are always fresh and well-made. I have noticed however that their non-alcoholic beverages such as lemonade and soda are often watered down and not the greatest. All-in-all, Publick House is an above-average restaurant, and one that I would definitely recommend to others and will keep coming back to. read more

I thought I dined here in the past and was mistaken. The place was bigger than I expected. I don't know, but for some reason it gave me Cheers vibes. It's dim lighting seem like a laid back spot to go if you don't want to be in a crowd but want to gather with friends, have a drink, or grab a bite. I ordered the cheese sticks. I am on a personal quest to find the perfect cheese stick! These wasn't quite the perfect ones but they were not the worst ones I have come across on my quest. The breading actually had a little flavor and they came out warmer than warm but not hot. In addition, I also ordered the chicken tenders and fries. They were good! The chickens tenders are small and fried well. I wish they gave more on a plate. They do give a plate full of fries which are not bad and actually pretty tasty. The cocktails are made well. Customer service is pretty good too. Overall, not a bad dive bar. read more

Good/Great beer selections. Definitely a divvy, local, community based sports bar. Yummy fried foods smells come pouring out if the kitchen, even when stuffed, you want to try the fried mustrooms. Doesn't look like they did much for covid other than add masks and take down one of the dart boards and some of the seating. It was a saturday game day and it wasn't crazy busy which was nice. My partner adores darts and this is a great place to play. The lane is private due to covid so that was a great perk. We had the whole back room to ourselves for a full hour which was delightful. We just drank great beers (a stout for the man, and a sour for me). So yummy- we may have had three. Lol. Bathrooms are just one stall. Sounded like the cooks had a better playlist going than what they would put out for the customers. Any kid of seating that you like? They have it. Bar, booth, table, and banquette. Everything is comfy and well loved. Feels like hanging out in your parents basement. The second room's decor is my favorite. I also really like that such a diverse group of people are welcome here. Last year was my first time attending St Patrick's Day festivities in Columbia and now I plan for this to be an annual celebration. And NO ONE does St Patrick's Day like these guys. The parade goes right by the front of Publick House and nothing but Good Vibes, GREAT pub food, and ice cold draught beer here, EXCEPT for possibly the best wine offerings, at the most affordable prices in SC! Food was AWESOME! I ordered the pterodactyl wings and they were so yummy. The wings were nice and crisp too. Our waitress was SUPER sweet. The service was very slow. We probably waited over 30 minutes for our food. (2 Wing baskets, fries and salad). I will say the wait staff seemed understaffed which I understand is a problem these days. I do have a recommendation to have napkins or paper towels on the table. A plus to having a toddler is that we had baby wipes on hand. The place had a relaxed, chill environment. Our lunch group went here Tuesday, as it's been one of our favorites and we wanted to revisit it. I'd like to give it 4-5 stars, but unfortunately we had a bad experience this time. It wasn't the food...the food is very good...best chicken wings in town (get the lemon-pepper dry rubbed) and if you want a sauce order it on the side. They are great. And the house dressing is to die for. Six of us ordered the wings (luncheon special is 6 wings/fries) or you can just order 10 wings if not wanting the special. One ordered the reuben sandwich with fries. Three of us ordered the house salads. We arrived at 11:35 and put in our order. The waiter took our order, drink order and returned shortly with the drinks. After one hour of waiting (there was only one other customer in the bar at the time - another customer came in and sat at the bar during that hour and one lady came in and picked up a to-go order. They all received their food before us. The waiter never came out and mentioned the delay in food or anything. We received our salads after about an hour. About ten minutes later our food came out. It was all hot and very good. The waiter commented that he was glad we weren't seven women or he would've really had some complaints. It wasn't his fault, but something must've gone wrong with the chef that day. Needless to say...the food is great....just a very bad experience with the timing on the food. I must add that I've been here twice with my wife and we also had similar experiences with our orders coming out promptly (but not this long). You know I like real people hometown food when traveling as opposed to franchise places. This was a hit for first night in town. James M helped me pick out an Ale I liked...he listened to my likes and set me up with a Sweetwater Blueberry Wheat Ale. I like it! After looking it up I wouldn't have purchased at a store. Now I will. It felt odd eating the wings with a touch of spice to make ones nose run and wish I had a paper napkin. Covid has messed so many things up. Tried Publick House for the first time. Definitely has a neighborhood bar feel to it, seems like it would be a nice place to hang out and have a couple of beers. Our server, Kodi B, was very nice and efficient. Checked on us frequently. We ordered the Fish & Chips and Prime Rib sandwich; the meals were served hot in a reasonable amount of time. The Raw Fries were the best part of the meal, I could have just sat and ate a plate of the fries and been happy. The sweet tea was especially good, tasted freshly made. When we asked Kodi for cups of tea to go and mentioned how good the tea was, she said oh thank you, I made it myself an hour ago! No, thank you Kodi your sweet tea was quite tasty! read more

I am a fan of great wings, and have heard that Publick House has some of the best wings in Columbia... so of course we had to come try! Kelsay and I came after work one day and I already knew what I was getting, the wing and fry combo. Spicy teriyaki wings (all flats - you guys know this already) and raw fries (wing chips if you aren't familiar). Kelsay kept it simple and went with the chicken tender basket with honey mustard and spicy BBQ. Kelsay's tenders were pretty standard, she finished them all and had no complaints. As for the wings, I gotta say... I was little let down. The spicy teriyaki was not spicy at all and they went a little light on the sauce, but the wings themselves were still okay. I like my wings on the crispy side, but these were on the verge of being overdone. I know... "you didn't like the wing flavor, and the wings were almost overdone... why 4 stars?". Well, people think so highly of PH, that I'm willing to accept that I just had a bad batch. I think i just didn't choose the best flavor, because I tried the spicy BBQ Kelsay had and it was great! Another local establishment use to be my favorite but through a recent menu change and the overtaking by college students I decided to nix that place from my list of local favorites-that being said I have been to the Publick House before for drinks but we never ate there. Recently, we popped in and DEVOURED the food. My partner got a salad which isnt a typical bar food I know but ya gotta satisfy whatever craving as it comes, right? Well, I got the suicide wings. DAMN! Not only were the wings plump they had a great crisp to them and last but not least--- the spice level was awesome!! FINALLY. Small dimly lit pub that delivers some of the best wings you will ever eat. We were visiting the area from up north and this pub was recommended. I'm glad we went. Besides the wings, we ordered the fried pickles app and an order of chicken fingers that were both fresh and our table enjoyed. The servers are on point and are knowledgeable of the wide selection of craft beer that the pub takes pride in. But to my party, the wings were the hit! Don't get me wrong the food is amazing. It's the only reason we still go here at all. But the service. The service is abysmal. We waited 30 minutes (not an exaggeration) to even get a drink order after 3 different waitresses said "Someone will be right with you." Then she brought the three of us one drink at a time for the next 10 minutes. We had to stop someone to take our order. Once the order was put in, it came out timely and tasted great. We were checked on only once during our meal. To check out it took roughly 20 minutes. We took the card to the bar to finally pay out. Instead of the bartender paying it out, he took it to the waitress and then gave us attitude about asking where our card is. It's not the first time something like this has happened. If you are in the mood for wings, do NOT come here. We paid $60 for 20 medium buffalo wings and 10 lemon pepper wings. Lemon pepper were fine, but the *medium* buffalo wings came back plain with some grease in the bottom of the tray. The bartender there, a man sporting a beard and a bad attitude, forced us to pay $9 for sauces upon arriving at the store (the owner said that was not supposed to happen). The bartender continued to argue on the phone that they were in fact medium and that we were the ones who were incorrect. If this is their medium sauce, I am clueless as to how they remain on the menu. They tasted like plain soggy wings and had a faint smell of some sort of sauce that wasn't present in the flavor. The owner was not much more helpful and attempted to argue a little more before saying we could come back to the store and get sauce. It's baffling how unapologetic they were. The beer is expensive, the seats are hard and the food is REALLY oily. I went with some friends on a Thursday night and got so sick from eating the fish and chips...it was good, but had so much oil that I wanted to vomit an hour later. The beer selection is thin; I'm sure most people go for the Guinness. Prices are kind of high for being close to 5 Points. The wait staff is OK, but they're pretty girls and they are obviously sick of being hit on and treated us like we were there to hit on them...which we could not have cared less about. Visited with a coworker early evening. Friendly, attentive and observant ladies at the bar. Atmosphere is a laid back comfortable pub feel. People friendly. Lots of folks in the seating out on the street. We got there not much after six on a Monday, and the outdoor seating was already full. Indoor was mostly full by the time we left. Decent mixed beer selection. Craft, Irish, English, German, and Cider on tap and in the bottle. Good bar food selection. My coworker (a foodie) said the cheese steak was excellent, and I can say the fried oysters on My Oyster Rockefeller Wrap were perfectly done, as was the wrap.
