"Great service, crappy owner" I have walked past this place plenty of times on the way to another place in the 'hood. However the other place had an event so I decided to wait for my friend at Velvet. It was kind of a slow night because i was the only person there at 9pm on a Tuesday night. I will say that Sol, the bartender, was amazing and a really sweet woman. We chatted for about 30-40 (or 2 hendricks and sodas) until my friend arrived. Rather than venturing to another place (it was cold), we decided to stay and drink the Tuesday special BOGO sangria. I will say that the sangria was very delicious and had a bit of an alcoholic kick to it. Using the yelp app, I checked in and noticed that there was a 10% off deal. And, I just when I thought that things could not get any better at Velvet . . . enters Phil, the owner. Sol took my phone and showed him the special because she was not sure about it. He flat out refused the deal. I merely asked "why?" Not that it was a big deal or anything but I was just curious. Then Phil spouted off something "I do not have time to go back and forth with your about not giving you a 10% discount on happy hour drinks." or something to that effect. First, of all the yelp did did not say that the deal could not be combined with happy hour deals. Second, I did have 2 Hendricks and sodas ($13 bucks a piece, definitely NOT happy hour prices) before drinking the BOGO sangria. Actually, I spent more on the gin beverages than the sangria ones. Third, you should have explained that to your bartender, who then could have explained it to me. As an owner or manager, shouldn't you have time to discuss questions that PAYING customers may have? No offense, for the majority of the night we were the only two patrons in the bar, so taking 10% of a 56 dollar tab would not have killed the business. OH FYI: There is a contest there where you can win $25 bucks off of your bar tab for taking pictures of you and your friends having fun at Velvet. Buuuttttt, I would not put too much grain of salt on this contest based on my experience of using a yelp deal to save 10% off of my bill. Just a thought. #whatever read more

Velvet is a beacon of hope in a neighborhood of grimy dive bars, lackluster venues, and boring drinks. It has all of the following: -an excellent playlist (last night, they played everything from Eurythmics to Drake) -drink specials that are both delicious and affordable ($8 mojitos all night) -comfy couches and little tables to rest your drinks on if you're feeling like you want to lounge -sizable space at the bar if that's your jimmy jam -a clean! not grimy! pleasant! bathroom (with a huge mirror) -huge open space Please frequent this establishment. You go here when you're waiting for your reservation at Peter Luger's. That's what it seems like. The inside decor is amazing. Beautiful back room. However, hipster central and a bit pricey for drinks (mostly because they know they're getting the PL crowd coming in). At least they take credit cards (unlike PL). read more

Stumbled upon this place on yelp when trying to find somewhere to kill idle time. When I read the name, I was like this sounds, looks cool and might just work in relational the distance to the Knitting factory. My friend and myself both were dressed casually for this concert, so I was a bit concerned about going here. This place is in the Williamsburg area of Brooklyn, so very upscale. When we arrived there were a group of people chilling outside which was fine, and they made us feel welcomed. **walked in, it appeared to be a small space very red like district like with the lighting of the room, but overall cool chill type of vibe. Next thing I noticed was the awesome music, definitely the type of music that is on my playlist, that had me at hello. Two seats were available at the bar, we scouted the menu and ordered our drinks, great names for the cocktails by the way. It was cool sitting there chatting, drinking and watching Charlie Chaplin play on the television at the bar and listening to the great selection of music. To drink I first ordered, "His favorite past time", I can't say I like the combination of the flavors, it had a licorice flavor which I'm not a fan of. The second drink, I ordered "behave yourself", which was mint, cucumber, gin and I believe grapefruit that one I really liked. When in Brooklyn, I can definitely make this a staple spot. read more

Came to this lounge with my boyfriend and two other friends on a Sunday night for some drinks. They also sell tobaccos there which my boyfriend got and he smoked it outside said he really enjoyed it. Came here for a pole exhibit. Very nice vibe and atmosphere. The drinks were really good too. My favorite was the seersucker. The only reason I didn't give this place a full five stars was because the food menu was super tiny and the artichoke dip was a little burnt--I could taste the char. I had the pleasure of celebrating my 29th Birthday at Velvet Brooklyn. I anticipated a large party straggling in the entire night which is exactly what happened. The Velvet team was able to cater to the entire party as well as catch the late comers so I could meet my very reasonable bar minimum. It was an amazing experience and the music was BOMB. I LOVE the atmosphere( part of the reason I picked the place). One of my best birthday experiences and stress free. You guys were amazing! I recommend Velvet Brooklyn for all occasions. Been to this establishment once. The drinks are fantastic. The food options are unique... not what I would normally eat. The bartender was awesome. I made reservations and the day I went we had to sit at the bar because they rented out the restaurant for a private party. That wasn't cool especially because I came from across town to get there. They need to somehow incorporate that when they are renting out the place then reservations shouldn't be able to be booked. read more

I went here for drinks and appetizers with a friend. The drinks are good, creative and strong. They are well flavored with a good contrast. We had light appetizers which were also good. We sat in the back lounge area and the drink service wasn't the best. My friend had to keep getting up and going to the bar for additional rounds as the waitress only bought us our first round when she took our food order. They hold a credit card as many establishments so to run a tab. Parking was street parking and was hard to find on a Tuesday night. I can't imagine in the weekends. There was live music which was enjoyable and you were free to dance and move. It appears that other local musicians being there instruments and sub in at will which was cool. I would go back again if in the area but wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to make the trip (I live in Queens). read more

I had my husband's birthday party here this past Saturday and had an amazing time. The events manager, Mike, was super helpful. They have a large back room that they generally only open for open bars/rent-out-the-space parties but were kind enough to let me host the party in that back room anyway. This dimly lit lounge offers comfortable chairs, love seat or bar seating in the front, with a stylish decor including candles and wall mirrors. Let's not forget a personable staff, cigars for sale and the cute chief statue for great pictures. It also has a private room in the back for rent, with the same comfy decor and private bar area. It was completely empty at 10pm on a Wednesday, but then a few more people came in after we were settled. The bartender was new and in training. I ordered a drink. I don't even know where to start: 1) we struggled with reserving a space for 20-25 people for my husband's 30th after-dinner party at a place that wouldn't charge us $1,000 only for reserving 2) a place that would be able to do this last-minute for us (we couldn't find anything for the past 6 days before the big night that would still be available). The owner (I think he is the owner), Phil, made it happen for us. He was so kind to reserve a the back space of the bar for us, two days before the reservation, and did not bind us to any stupid conditions (minimum $ spend, only 1-tab payment, etc.). WE WERE SO HAPPY! OMG: 1) the DJ was AWESOME - she played old-school cool hip-hop 2) Phil made AWESOME cocktails 3) the staff was SO nice 4) other guests at the Velvet Brooklyn were cool 5) WE HAD THE best time ever! I am so happy Phil made this happen for us. This space is really nice, great music, lovely stuff, awesome drinks, really well priced and great for a party or just a drink or two. This was a quaint little spot in BK, we came for the live Reggae band for my friends birthday celebration. We missed the happy hour but the they did have a $5 Sangria special all night that we partook in. It was fairly empty, not sure what days are the best to come but we appreciated the band singing happy birthday to my friend.
