I'm going to start by saying I will never trust anyone else to touch my hair for the rest of my days. Christina is an angel and a truly talented hair dresser. I have been going to Christina since I was 8 years and I could not trust or love her more. I will share this story and photos just to show her magical abilities and serious understanding of hair and hair treatments. I moved from Chicago to New York City a few years ago and was going on a last minute vacation for which I wanted to touch up my highlights. For reference I am a brunette and Christina has given me this beautiful balayage/ lighter pieces framing my face and I just needed to touch up these highlights. Let me reiterate... HIGHLIGHTS. Long story short I walked out of my nyc appointment fully blonde. Not one strand of brown hair left on my head. Like Britney spears blonde circa 2000. It was trash. I immediately flew home to Christina. Before even telling my family I was coming into town I made sure Christina was available. She worked her magic ...after laughing and getting over the horror that was my hair. But she completely transformed my hair back, which not only shows that she is good at her job but truly understands the process of the treatments and how to appropriately use which colors /treatments to obtain the best results. Velvet Roar is the only place I will get my hair cut, since first walking in in early 2012. Christina is an artist and always makes me feel like I'm a model when I leave. I have extremely difficult hair to cut but she never makes any mistakes. The ladies are all outgoing and very friendly so all newcomers are sure to feel like one of the regulars. The salon is also very modern and beautiful just like the stylists :). I recommend this place to everyone I talk to and even put their business cards in my place of work. This is a long overdue review of Velvet Roar. Christiania has been keeping my mane manageable and hip despite the times I go in there and ask her just to 'shave it all off' b/c I'm having one of those days. The salon is nicely decorated and Christina gives off a lot of good energy that you can't help but fall victim to. If it wasn't for Christina I'm sure I'd be sportin' a Sinead O'connor look now under a variety of hats. I can't believe I haven't reviewed Velvet Roar or Christina here on yelp yet. Christina has been doing my hair for 10 years and I wouldn't go to anyone else. When her and Wendy opened VR I knew it was going to be an amazing salon. They are both extremely talented in ALL facets of hair. Christina does the best job with my regular cut & color. I have gone from dark brown to blonde, short, long, sideswept bangs, straight across bangs, and she nailed it every single time! Every time I leave the salon my blow out lasts DAYS. Which is unheard of for my normally very oily hair. It's seriously magic. Christina also did my hair in an elaborate bun for my wedding day. It was even better than I hoped for. Wendy also did my bridesmaids hair and everyone looked PERFECT. The salon is absolutely gorgeous & they are extremely accommodating, always offering a drink and fun gossip mags. They are the sweetest people too, you will walk out and want to be their best friend & they will make you feel like you are!
