I set up an appointment to drive down to Chicago with the intention to meet him in person, show how the ring fit on my finger, share my ideas, and see what he recommended based on his expertise. The drive was long and parking impossible, but I figured it would be important. His office was small and messy, but I chalked that up to being more focused on the rings themselves and offering good prices. He only spent all of maybe 10 minutes with us and provided absolutely no insight or recommendations. He didn't ask for our budget or anything besides "send me a photo of what you want" and joked how he disliked working on wedding bands because females are difficult. That really rubbed me the wrong way, and I should have trusted my gut and walked away then. After a complete flop of a first design based on a photo where my engagement ring wasn't nearly similar enough, I emailed him in detail what I liked about it, what I didn't like and why, asked for his expert recommendations again, and provided an alternative concept. He said nothing besides "give me a few days to get this done and will send it over" and then I didn't hear from him for two weeks. We weren't in a rush, and the second one was better, but he clearly hadn't read the things I liked/disliked about the first design and just took the photo I shared as a concept and made a CAD of exactly that. It still had a lot of things I wanted changed to make it my perfect wedding band since I will be wearing every day, so I tried calling multiple times and offered to chat on the phone, because after a lot of back-and-forth, he clearly did not understand what I was asking which proved very frustrating. We finally got the wedding band to an acceptable place, and when I asked what the ring would cost (as no range was provided throughout this entire grueling process), I didn't hear from him for two weeks. When he responded he said, "it's done, here is what you owe me" which was surprising and extremely unprofessional. After spam calling the practice to get him on the phone, I voiced my overall frustration, and he said "well I'm barely making anything on commission for this ring and you made me do multiple CAD images. So do you want the ring or not?" TLDR: if you want a fun and customer focused experience where you feel heard and valued, go elsewhere. My friends said they love Kesslers and their other local jewelers.
