My children get 1 cleaning a year through medical at this office. The last few visits the "cleaning" was rushed (maybe 5 minutes) and no exam is performed. Have not seen the dentist since the 1st visit. Maybe bc we are not privately insured customers? They bill medical almost $200 each visit. I received a statement with charges and services. The front desk woman who forgot about me in our previous interaction called me to offer an earlier appointment for my son's cleaning. She apologized again and explained what happened (again). Since this appointment worked much better for my family we took it. My son is sensory-sensitive. He usually has a really, really hard time at dental offices and that's why for the past four years we've gotten referrals to see a pediatric dentist. Unfortunately Delta Dental stops pediatric referrals at 7 but that's neither here nor there. Dr Metias stopped by to say hello and do a cursory check, before handing us over to her calm and patient hygienist/assistant/not sure what her title is. She worked as quickly and efficiently as possible. She did her best to explain to my son what she was doing, when she was doing it. The process was supposed to be 1) seal the four molars, 2) polish his teeth, and 3) apply the fluoride treatment. My son was able to get through the first two molars well, but started melting down before the second two. His behavior was still a vast improvement over his previous trips where he would scream and cry so hard he would burst blood vessels. Anyway, Dr Metias came back over and offered to try a referral but stated insurance would just deny it. She has much more experience than I do so I default to her expertise. The cleaning proceeded, with her taking over. After trying a to polish, we all agreed to skip this step and just doing the fluoride treatment. Overall I am glad Dr Metias took the time to really care for my son. She did make me feel heard and validated my experience. I also received another apology about being left on hold. read more

I am extremely grateful and satisfied with Venice Family Group. The Appointment making was easy and flexible according to my family's needs. The front desk was very kind during check-in and the check-out desk person was so sweet and helpful! When I met Dr. Matias, She was honest and upfront about what I needed and the cost of it before starting any procedures (which was so affordable by the way!), but she was also as sweet as a family member. She saw my nervousness and eased it immediately, even with a hug! I tell you this was such a kind, intelligent Doctor! She could look in my mouth and identify every procedure I have had without yet reviewing my records (which I am getting over there as soon as possible- have your records ready just in case). Ok, so here's my favorite part of my visit....I had a deep cleaning with Mixi (forgive my spelling if it's incorrect). She was ahhh-mazing! Deep cleanings are usually not fun at all. Mixi was able to prevent discomfort using topical numbing gel and her technique was effortless and thorough. I have never felt a deep clean be so oddly satisfying and she even made me laugh throughout my procedure and she was patient with my need to take mini breaks if I needed... What a pleasant procedure! FINALLY the best dentist in Los Angeles has been found! For years I've been worsening my habit of biting the inside of my lower lip. It sands down my teeth, has misaligned the right side of my jaw and produced numerable migraine/tension headaches. I've tried everything to stop it, but the only thing that seems to weaken my habit is using a night guard retainer. Bigger Problem? - Even if you have a dental plan attached to your health insurance, mouth guards and night guards aren't normally covered. So after putting in more hours than I'd like to admit to searching for a dentist who does affordable, quality work, I found the Venice Dental Group. Dr. Metias remembers each client and treats them with the utmost care. I know I sound corny, but I really do enjoy going to the dentist now. I don't have to stress about high pitched drills or getting hustled for more procedures. They listen. They actually care. The staff always keep me happy and the low bill is even better! Service (5/5): This is roughly as good as the dental experience gets. Now, I'm reviewing my dentist, and not so much the amenities. I called in Friday morning, freaking out about a chipped tooth. The dentist had the day off, but she took the day off to take care of me. Respect. Anyways, apparently, it's been a long time since I had a deep cleaning, and good news, the chipped part was not teeth. The bad news? I had some serious calculus issues, and apparently, it had nothing to do with Math. (TMI maybe, but I think it's kind of necessary?) I might be a huge foodie, but I'm a complete dental noob. So you have to take all the things that impress me with a grain of salt. That being said, each room has an x-ray machine, and instead of an x-ray, they use an x-ray chip. So instead of developing film, you see the results popup on a computer screen. They also have a mouth cam, which they take pictures of various quadrants in your mouth. It was used to illustrate exactly what a nightmare my mouth really is. After she explained to me what my mouth SHOULD look like, and what it DOESN'T look like, I pretty much told her to just go to town on it. She also told me what she thinks is necessary, and what she doesn't think is necessary. She was also constantly mindful of my pocket book. It's not like I had a choice in the matter, so I just gave her the go ahead with EVERYTHING. My dentist was constantly concerned about whether or not she's inflicting pain on me, and was quite liberal with applying numbing agents. She would stop the entire procedure to ensure that we can proceed as painlessly as possible. Double respect. That being said, my bill came out to around roughly $1,500, I've done a good amount of research, and it looks like it's really no fault of the office, but more a fault of the insurance systems we have. I had DMO, and I requested that the DMO plan be compared against a PPO plan, and apparently, I don't think either way, it would've saved me any money. Which is kind of aggravating because what's the point of insurance if it's not going to cover what I deem to be normal wear & tear things? If your curious, I had full mouth deep cleaning, replaced my amalgam to composite (4), and had microabrasions on my gums (4) (basically, I brushed my gums, and the abrasion of me brushing caused the roots of my teeth to show, and eventually, I was brushing away the roots of my teeth which is majorly bad). Then I had some anti microbial injections (4) to attempt to restore my gums back to normal. None of that was covered, and none of it would be covered in either DMO or PPO plan. Oh well, so is life, but really makes you wonder if there IS a plan out there that WOULD cover such things, because I imagine it'd be pretty common place. I can't imagine that I'm the only person in the world who doesn't habitually use a extra-soft toothbrush. Anyways, I love the dentist here, she takes care of me. She's like the tooth fairy and the fairy god mother combined. If you ever meet her, you'd understand my reference. She gives off an air that reminds you of your gran gran. I strongly recommend this dentist. That being said... WTF Aetna? WHYYYY am paying for YOU!? read more

Don't come here if you have medi-cal. I had a rotten tooth that either needed to be pulled or have a root canal. They told me they would be happy to give me a root canal after the approval from medi-cal went through. It went through and I call Nagwa and ask when I can make an appointment. At this point, I'm hurting bad. She tells me that all of a sudden she can't help me because of a billing issue. They'll preach sympathy and then stab you in the back. Rotten business practices with a "friendly to your face" attitude, which just makes it all the more infuriating and frustrating to deal with them. read more

I visited Dr Metias after being shocked by how horrible Western Dental was(literally right around the corner) I went in with a painful impacted wisdom tooth, and she took care of me wonderfully. I had never even had a cavity but she has very calming bedside manner, and I have healed up great with only expected soreness. She has a giant heart and will be honest about what you need and what you don't. I am a student strapped on $$ and it was extremely affordable. Venice Dental is also much cheaper than Western Dental and offers Care Credit payment plans. Dr Metias is hilarious and had me laughing as she ripped that tooth out of my face The office appearance is fine, everyone was nice and personable staff wise I will definitely return to this honest,kind, affordable doctor if I have anything in the future. Pain can be a great motivator. Yesterday was one of those days. Thanks to amazing grace, I started an internet search and quickly discovered Denti-Cal, which I had been unaware of all these years. That then led me to the Venice Dental Group. Their excellent Yelp reviews pushed me to make the call and the blessings continued. Jessie answered the phone and the moment I heard her sweet and gentle voice my anxiety lifted. Thirty minutes later, I was greeted by Amal, another very delightful soul filled with light and gratitude. While filling out the paperwork in the warm and welcoming reception area I could hear a continuous stream of loving laughter coming from the inner offices. It was very comforting to me. A few minutes later Mexi, the very engaging and gentle dental hygenist was carefully taking my Xrays for Dr. Mary Makar, who soon joined us. Her absolute radiance instantly filled the room. My first time coming to this dentist office, I thought I just lost a filling but I needed a route canal. Not a very fun process to go through but I am very glad I came here. My girlfriend recommended them since she had a couple cleanings there and enjoyed her experience. The staff were very friendly and professional. The office and equipment was new and very clean. Dr. Metias and Dr. Makar were both comforting and informative. They showed my ex-rays to me and explained the conditions and solutions very well.
