Visited Dr. Winther for temperature sensitivity and pain on an upper tooth and she suggested a root canal (at another doctor's facility) and a crown. Got the root canal done and came back and she had me in and out with the crown quicker than I expected. I was going to write this earlier, but it's been such a non-issue I just forgot about it. I've been a patient for years and always schedule my next appointment in the office and add it to my calendar on the spot. I had one scheduled for today at 2:30. I have a broken leg and had a PT appt at 2:00 nearby. I was almost there (3 minutes away) when I get a call from the receptionist at 2:14 saying I'm late and she has to cancel my appointment. I was confused since it wasn't 2:30 yet. If they need to change it to earlier, they need to call me--they can't just change the time on the automated texts (which I never read anyway since there are so many and I already have it on my phone calendar). Receptionist was VERY rude and unhelpful. Considering I'd been a patient for so long, I was already there by the time she was saying this (still early!), AND I have a hard time getting around on crutches with my broken leg (which I told her about), you'd think they'd just try and make it work. Nope. Instead she said she was going to deactivate my account. Too bad as I always liked Dr. Winter herself. She needs to fire that rude receptionist. I'll find a new dentist. read more

I was a patient of Dr. Winther for several years and had a reasonably good experience, but there was a new hygienist for my last cleaning appointment and I left with my mouth bruised and bleeding. Each time I flinched or winced with pain when the instrument slipped and poked my gums, she acted surprised and said I "must be sensitive." I guess that's correct: I'm sensitive to having a sharp metal instrument penetrate my gums. On my way out, I tried to explain that it had not been a good experience and received only a shrug from the office staff. There was no followup or expression of concern and no reason for me to believe that hygienist is not still working in the office. I did not see my original review so I am putting up another one. I had a disappointing terrible painful experiences with Dr. Winter. 2 crowns and a filling all will problems. None of the crowns fit well and one led to root canal although anytime I had pain it was root canal. Most of the time it was due to poor dental work. I stopped going after I had a filling that had pain for 6 weeks and a mouth guard that was ill fitting. With all due respect, there are more qualified dentists out there. read more

Thank goodness for Dr. Winther and her staff. Without a doubt, her dental practice is the best I've ever had the pleasure of encountering. My husband and I have been seeing Dr. Winther since we moved to the Marina over 10 years ago. As other reviewers have said, she does not push unnecessary procedures (which is very unusual in California IMHO). I trust her completely for all my dental needs. When I cracked a tooth chomping down on a fork, she was available to speak with me ASAP and get my situation taken care of immediately! She basically reconstructed my broken tooth and it looks as good as new. Dr. Winther also assisted me in finding me the perfect night guard and she patiently spent quite a bit of time doing a wonderful fitting for me. She also corrected a previous dentist's poor work on a filling of mine. Her office facility is clean and beautiful with lovely views of the Marina. Parking is either pay at the deck or across the street for a very nominal fee. Billing issues are nonexistent. The one time there was an error, it was corrected immediately. Also, her support staff, in particular her dental hygienists are incredibly sweet, kind, and have a very light touch when polishing teeth. It's a pleasure getting my teeth cleaned! Whaaaatt?! Dr Winther is wonderful and I trust her because after several years of being her patient, I've had no problems with any of the dental work she's done. She's on time for appts, caring, listens to your concerns, has a great personality and most importantly, she's very gentle.  She puts you at ease from the moment you meet her. I am very disappointed with the dental work Dr. Winthers performed. Dr. Winthers recommended a crown for a tooth on on side of my mouth and a filling on the other side. Both upper teeth. Since Dr. Winthers recommended the procedures I decided to have the work done. Prior to her performing the procedures, I was experiencing no discomfort, no pain and no temperature sensitive. And I felt comfortable chewing on both sides of my mouth. The procedures were done 6 weeks ago. And since that time, I continue to experience pain, discomfort and temperature sensitivity (cold and hot food and drink) on the left side of my mouth. I cannot enjoy eating food if I chew on the left side of my mouth. Never in my life have I had such a problem before. When I called Dr. Winthers, she became defensive immediately. She said I may need a root canal. I told her if she thought her work could lead 1) ongoing pain, discomfort and temperature sensitive, and 2) to a root canal, she should have advise me of the fact prior to performing the procedures. I could have then weighed the risk. If she would have told me this was a possibility, I never would have done the procedures. I am very disappointed. I went from no pain, no discomfort, no temperature sensitive, to all the above. I can only chew on one side of my mouth. read more

Very irritating- I needed to find my insurance number and was having technical issues with the insurance app. The receptionist was very short, and didn't even allow me 15 minutes to sort out my new plan information before telling me that Dr. Winther couldn't help me anyway. Very unhelpful, and hurried me out - not something you want went coming to be put in an invasive and vulnerable position (I already have anxiety with the dentist). I reworked my scheduled to make this appointment and then they just pushed me out not accommodating at all. Seriously love this office. I went back for a filling and cosmetic bonding on my front teeth, due to a chip. I'm really anal when it comes to details bc I asked her 3x to fix how it looked so I would really like it. She did and I really love the results. I also added filling in a hole where I constantly would get food stuck. So she fixed this as well in the same appt so I wouldn't have to come back. I was treated like I truly matter here and I can't say enough about their great attitudes and smiling faces. I've been a patient of Dr. Winther since 2017. The office is clean and welcoming. The receptionist is on point and gets you checked in right away and keeps the schedule moving. She's also always been a huge help with scheduling and rescheduling in the past. Once checked in, I never have to wait long to be called back. I've been more than pleased with the hygienists on staff, most recently Genesis is my go to. She is communicative, gentle, and takes extra care to ensure I was comfortable. By far, one of the best cleaning experiences I've had to date. Dr. Winther is personable and warm, while being extremely efficient in examination. I always look forward to interacting with her. It's like catching up with a friend after not seeing them for 6 months - then before I know it, my appointment has concluded with no time wasted. I'm in and out. I don't mind the drive or paying for parking given the experience and service. I also recommend the fluoride treatment - it's a great add on to your visit and find it makes a difference (it's only $30). They never try and upsell me on it, which is also nice. Been coming here for regular cleaning and some crown work for past 4 years. Their schedule is so packed that you need to make appointments weeks to a month in advance. Doctors are knowledgeable, super friendly and i've recommended friends as well who are generally "scared" to go to the dentist. This place is pricey but comparable to other places in marina del rey but if you've got dental insurance, everything is a breeze. The online booking tool doesn't work well since no one contacts me after i put in a request so a phone call is much easier. They sent email and text reminders before your appt. read more

Everything was great with this Dr. for a while until I needed some root canal work, I had my appointment where she told me I needed it and I had to come back to get the service, I switched insurance when I went back to her. Then the next thing I see is a $400 something bill from her plus she already charged $400 to my card. If she knew my insurance wasn't covering the root canal why she performed the procedure without telling me how much it was going to cost me. Not cool. read more

Am I crazy by saying that I actually like going to see Dr Winther? Possibly. I live in Downtown LA and commute all the way to the Marina, even though there's probably 561 other local dentists that I could choose. But Dr Winther is my chosen one. Let's start with parking because it seems to be an issue with other reviewers. Yes, the parking in the attached structure is expensive. It's the marina, hello? If you don't want to pay for parking, buy a snack at Ralph's around the corner and leave your car parked there. That's legal, right!? Well, that's what I do. If you don't mind paying for parking, then you shouldn't have any complaints. So Daniel is the gem (guy that checks you in) at the front desk. He's great. He knows his job like a master. He knows the dental industry, how to deal with patients, how to explain billing, etc. Other dental offices treat you like a number or a widget on a conveyer belt when you sign in. You won't get that treatment with sweet Daniel. Dr Winther and her assistants (Ana and a few other ladies) are the creme of the crop in dentistry. They explain everything they're doing before and while they're doing their work, so you don't have any sudden unexpected surprises in your mouth while you're sitting there with your mouth wide open. It's very comforting, especially since so many people fear going to the dentist. The office is super clean and the view of the marina from the dental chair is spectacular and calming. I've been to other offices and my view is a cheesy animation of a tooth as a cartoon character, reminding you not to forget to brush and floss. Overall, I am very satisfied with my services (cleanings, x rays, multiple fillings), the lovely staff, the office and the whole dental experience. See you in 6 months. read more

HW and staff are excellent. I had an awesome dentist in Santa Clarita, moved to Santa Monica, and tried HW. I thought I had a good dentist, but HW is way better! I do t know what magic she does, but I do t feel pain compared ti my last dentist. She works magic; I chipped a tooth, asked my old dentist and they said it would take a long time and be expansive. Went to HW and I was in and out in like 20 min and I did t pay anything. I have always had great experiences and felt I was in good hands. I moved away and started going to another dentist closer to my home, but, was very unhappy. Absolutely the best dentist I have ever been to!!! Dentists are one of the worst things to try to look for...that and doctors since there are hardly ever any reviews on them. Luckily Dr. Winther had a review at her other office, and she's in my network on my plan here, so perfect!!! Scheduled an early morning appt here as I of course have to work the usual times. Plenty of parking in the building. Walk into their office, a small waiting area with the usual things. Filled out my paperwork, had just enough time to sit down, and wonder if I should grab a magazine when my name was called. So far so good! Ugh...my yearly x-rays were due...I hate these things. I can't stand the way the xrays get shoved into your mouth and then when you bite down the corners dig in. Not so here. The woman who helped me was absolutely wonderful. I told her first thing that I have a horrible gag reflex and usually it takes forever with x-rays, she was patient and understood. She gave me the time I needed to compose myself before each one. The x-rays didn't even dig into my mouth at all! The quickest z-rays I've ever had and pain-free! Marvelous! Minutes after my x-rays Dr. Winther came in. She's warm and friendly, knowing not to ask too many questions while working on my teeth, and not super chatty with her assistant. It always makes me wonder how focused people are when they are just talking up a storm. Super gentle, but cleaned my teeth really well and took off as many stains as possible. My visit took a bit longer because of the care she took to make sure all was well. For once, I didn't get any professional teeth whitening pushed onto me. She did suggest I try Crest whitestrips to dissolve the stains in between the teeth, and she didn't whip out a pack of them to sell right after. I felt entirely comfortable at their office, Dr Winther definitely has the right mix of qualities that I like. The office is nice and clean and the equipment they use seems to be up to date. They also have an awesome view of the marina, if you get lucky to be in one of the very last rooms. I've been to dentists who feel like they're hacking at your teeth, ones that try to sell me a 300 dollar teeth whitening set, and other things that really aren't very pleasant. I left her office with nice shiny clean teeth, an actual smile, and 8.50 poorer cause of parking (no biggie I've had paid 15 before). read more
