I read the reviews before coming & I was excited to get my hands on one of their subs; everyone loves this spot. I ordered their signature Italian with a bag of chips & a bottled water. I have to say that there wasn't anything "special about it". Don't get me wrong, it was pretty tasty but nothing made it stand out versus a sub from a supermarket. This is our favorite sandwich shop in Mill Valley and frankly one of our favorite sandwich shops we've encountered even while living in SF for nearly 10 years. Sandwiches are a dime a dozen but the best sandwiches have the right bread, right amount of moisture vs dryness, high quality deli meat, and that certain set of ingredients that you're not quite sure why it's so much better than other sandwiches with the same ingredients. That is ABSOLUTELY Antone's East Coast Sub Shop!! My husband and I go almost every weekend, it's such a treat for us. Best sandwiches in Marin, hands down. Perfect melt-in-your-mouth Hoagie bread,, the peppers pop, the cheese wafts, the veggies snap, and the avocados are rich as a rainforest. I have finally found a delicious, authentic, hole-in-the-wall sandwich spot that is Antone's East Coast Sub Shop. The staff are friendly, kind, and efficient, and the food is top quality and super tasty. I like basic, so my go-to is turkey with everything, and, my god, do they nail it every time. My friends enjoy the pastrami and roast beef- they have something for everyone. They get very busy at lunch, so I'd try to come either before or after that. Pass by this place often and have been intrigued since authenticity is paramount to any culinary claims of cuisine with origins east of St Louis. Stopped by today and grabbed an Italian sausage Sub w/peppers and onions. Now NY, NJ, MA, CT natives who remember the 80's to 2ks all understand that very slight regional nuance aside this particular sandwich which is a staple at Italian street fairs, block parties and local pizzerias alike is unique to the region. It's prepped in such a way that the sautéed peppers, onions, and sausage fat blend and soak just enough into the toasted, soft, Italian bread to give it a soggy but not sloppy texture and incredible, distinct flavor throughout. Basic but unmistakable. Sounds easy right?, Much like music- if it was easy to create heveryone would be making music. 'You'll be back' I was told after a brief chat with one of the owners. Now, I probably should have taken a photo before I tasted this masterpiece that took me right back to Coney Island. My first visit last year was a big disappointment. I guess I just ordered the wrong thing. This time I went with my guy and got the Meatball Sub (comes with marinara sauce and melted provolone cheese). And boy - this sandwich did not disappoint in the slightest. It was large; the bread was chewy, the sauce was tangy, the meat was meaty... you get the idea. It hit all the right marks. And for just $8.99, this hearty meal is a steal. Best people ever running this place. My family and I went to Muir Woods and on our drive down we got a flat tire so we had to stop at the local tire shop that just happens to be across from Antone's. I walked over to try out their sandwiches only to find that they had already closed. As I was walking away, the owner came out and insisted on making me sandwiches, I mean out right insisted on opening back up to serve me. Who does that these days?!
