We love the convenience of the Golden Gate market, the friendly staff, and the wide variety of things, even though it is not as big as some of the other markets. We have also used them for catering! The previous owners were incredibly service oriented and pleasing to everyone, but especially to the locals that shop there year-round, which is why it is extra upsetting that the new owner Suman is incredibly rude and has absolutely no manners. I am a very longtime resident and have been shopping at Golden Gate market for decades and have never been treated so poorly by any local business, let alone one I frequent all the time. The last few interactions with him have been incredibly obnoxious and unpleasant so I will never shop there again. His bad attitude does not fit our small local town, as our stores and business owners here are always polite, respectful, and courteous to locals and tourists alike. It is a major let down, especially after having the best management prior who were always willing to go above and beyond any request or question you had. This is a nice shop. They have a deli there and decent selection of items. I was able to purchase a CBD drink. Also a pre-made deli sandwich. It was a decent sandwich yet nice to eat given there were closing up the deli shop. Service is great. Very uncrowded at that time of evening. A good place to get some food. read more

As a local I'm so disappointed with this "market". Being the closest store to my house, it would be so convenient - however my experiences here always tends to be pretty awful, especially the last few times I've shopped here. Not once, not twice, but nearly every time I come here I stand at the deli window for about 5 mins while there are numerous people working - who CLEARLY see me, however choose to completely ignore my presence. The last time I came for chicken breast, stood there for 5+ mins while of course, I was ignored. I went to the front to ask if I could have service. She said oh I'm sorry, we RENT our kitchen out for another company to use. (???) IT WAS 4:30 PM. Even so, the rude people from the other company 'renting' the kitchen, could EASILY act human and acknowledge my presence and explain, "Hi, I'm sorry if you would like help you can speak with the cashier, we are using their space," it's pretty simple! I pointed to the glass case and said, so you can't simply walk behind there and grab me the pre-packaged chicken breast??? She said, no, I'm sorry. (By the way it seems all of the cashiers are the newer generation who are emotionless and know NOTHING about customer service. I feel so awkward as if I am an inconvenience to them! So, I ended up walking a mile each way to Driver's market - simply because they refused to sell me chicken breast! At 4:30 pm, just to remind you. Absolutely ridiculous!!! I will never spend a dime here again. What a shame considering I live just up the street, that I have to go across town because they know nothing about customer service. read more

As a cyclist, this is going to be your mid ride stop for something more substantial than just a latte. I'm a big fan of their All American sandwich ($13), which is just a toasted turkey, bacon, avocado sandwich but damn, when you're 50 miles in nothing tastes better. Sure it's a bit pricey but you're getting a more substantial sandwich than you would at Equator for the same price. And if you want coffee, there's a coffee shop attached to the market but I've never tried their drinks. I also love their selection of sodas, kombucha, chips, etc. and I appreciate that they offer local artisan goods (Cicis cookies for example). A decent amount of outdoor seating, though obviously on the weekend in the summer you might have a hard time getting a spot. read more

This is an adorable little market. The sandwiches are delicious even if they are pricey just like everything here. The pasta salad is a no... it's weirdly sweet. front end staff are usually very nice with one exception. Blonde dude in his 20s has a sucky attitude every time I deal with him. I dropped a container of pasta salad all over the floor. Did he help me clean it up? Nope his only comment was "would you like a replacement?" Uh ya think? I love everything about Golden Gate Market except the prices. $9 for a breakfast burrito, $3.75 for a drip coffee, or darn near $15 for a lunch sandwich seems almost unconscionable, but it's so delicious, quick, and nearby that I keep coming back. It's true you get what you pay for and the food is so good. I've never been disappointed by one of their sandwiches. The breakfast burritos are aces though sometimes the eggs are a bit mealy; I think bacon is king but sausage is almost as good, and they just added a veg option as well! Plus, employee turnover seems low which makes me think they treat their employees well. In all it's a great place to grab a quick bite whether you're on a bike ride or on your way to work. read more

Massive props to GG Market's new-ish owner Daniel. The wife and I live a block up from this place and he has re-imagined this market to create a fabulous neighborhood gem. Absolutely awesome sandwiches, artisanal goods, great IPA's and vino, awesome coffee shop. The greatest gift however has to be the biltong. What is biltong? Think crack cocaine beef jerky...but healthy. It's a South African delicacy (Daniel is South African) that he makes probably once a week. It always sits on the deli bar. Unreal. Love this place. A lovely local grocery in Sausalito! There's a lot of pedestrian and biker traffic from tourists and locals alike. Stock up on water, produce, snacks, and of course... Ice cream! It's conveniently located along the bike route from SF to Sausalito, and goodness knows you need a break after crossing the Golden Gate Bridge. The prices are decent, more than your neighborhood supermarket chain store. But take a break on their benches outside and enjoy the weather and view! Inthe 1950s, my early years, lived in Upper Darby, PA, a bedroom subrub of Philly, full of WWII veterans who were starting new lives and growing families as well as careers. Our "corner store" was the Morris Corner Store.l The butcher would give me a slice of salami, there were pickles in a big brine-filled barrel and shelves of just about everything. It was our neighborhood store when malls and super markets were only ideas for the future. When I walked into Golden Gate Market I was transported back 50 years...and it felt really good. A little bit of everything and a lot of quality in product and service with a local, neighborhood cozyness. Friendly cashier and the two guys in the deli department were just so relaxed and courteous in describing the various marinaides and sandwich fixings. And you could construct sandwiches to your taste. Locals have "accounst" whereby theyhe can pick up things and pay for them later. They know where they live and know the families. they even will deliver. How quaint and unusual in our hussle-bussle world today. In business for well over 30 years it is a Sausalito institution that truly SERVES this now busy community. And given the high end tourists and changing complexion of the local community, one has to give credit and admire how adaptive this "corner store" has been in satisfying its continually changing clientel. The meats are simply terriffic and the prices for much of the merchandise and deli items are on a par with the supermarkets. Yes, some items are more expensive, but not by much. Stopped for a quick bite on our way out of town. Amazing and delicious sandwiches. I had the carnitas, added avocado, on a French roll. So damn good. The carnitas tasted like someone's grandmother cooked up a batch, for today's sandwiches. Thick, juicy slices of meat on freshly baked bread.
