Advertises itself as a "Jew-ish" deli, and that's about accurate: the food is pretty good, but not quite there as real NY-style deli cuisine. I had what I always get at delis: matzo ball soup and a pastrami sandwich. The matzo balls were hard and thick, which is one of the two ways to make matzo balls, the other being soft and fluffy. This way isn't wrong, but the other is better. The broth is good, but there was no shredded chicken in it, just tiny cubes of inconsistently cooked vegetable, celery and onion and I'm not sure what all else. The pastrami was quite lean but managed to be fairly juicy. I'm pretty sure it was made from brisket, which is not the canonical pastrami cut. The important part is that it tasted like pastrami and not like brisket, which a lot of would-be pastramis can't manage. Get it "tradition" style on rye with deli mustard. Small place in a yuppie shopping center. Order at the counter, wait (a very short time) for your food to be brought to your table or counter spot. Daily newspapers for you to read. read more

I have been meaning to try Loveski for a while now and finally went by twice recently. On my first visit the lady behind the counter was very friendly. I ordered a famous yeast bagel with herbed cream cheese to go. It was scrumptious! I loved the combo I got. The bagel was slightly salty which I liked. On my second visit I dined there for lunch. They have several tables inside and outside as well as a counter facing the kitchen. We ordered the matzoh ball soup, the Tribute, and the Braised Brisket. I've never had matzoh ball soup before and it was delicious. It was simple but had lots of flavor. Each sandwich was delicious and hearty. I preferred the crunchy bread from the Braised Brisket sandwich over the soft rye that comes with the Tribute sandwich. The pastrami on the Tribute sandwich was delicious though and they are generous with the portions. There's a bunch of other items I'd like to try on the menu when I return. There's a lot of merch, drinks, and snacks as well near the cash register that's worth checking out. Went to the Larkspur Hanukkah celebration today and enjoyed Loveski's little latkes onsite with a loved one. The staff were upbeat and warm when we ordered from their table. And what a treat on a colder day today! Three small round potato patties were enough for a small snack for two. Those mini latkes had just the right amount of crunch and flavor. The side of sour cream and apple sauce paired nicely per usual with any latkes. Will be making a note to stop in the restaurant sometime for a full meal. read more

The SF Chronicle recently did a blind bagel test and of course I, a bagel connoisseur, was interested in their findings. I don't spend much time in the North Bay, so ignored their top pick--Loveski's, a modern Jewish deli in Marin. However, one Sunday, I drove up with my tennis captain for a tennis match and she wanted to stop for a snack. I suggested Marin Country Mart, which we were about to drive by. Though I'd read about this waterfront shopping and food destination, I'd never been. Imagine my surprise when I realized Loveski's was here! We walked in and there was a line just after 2pm. I love love loved the decor and ambiance inside--it was old-timey with a cool bar counter and bright colors. The font of their text made it fun and homey. Service was very good. We enjoyed an everything bagel. It was fresh with a unique blend of sunflower seeds, flax, what tasted like salt. Complex flavors and the cream cheese (plain) tasted like perfection. Service was kind, though we waited a bit for our food. There is no bathroom inside, you have to go outside. Would go back if I was in the area! read more

We had a team lunch here after volunteering at the Marin food bank. We were able to find a very large table to accommodate our big group. Everyone ordered items from bagels to salads to scrambled eggs. We all had specialty coffees. I had the green goddess with light dressing and added smoked salmon . It arrived in a giant bowl and was very tasty although it could've used a side of lemon to squeeze in for a little zest. My espresso was perfect. The man that worked there was super friendly and made sure we had everything we needed and also volunteered to take a few pictures of us both inside and outside as we were leaving . I was able to get a glimpse of some of the sandwiches going by and they looked delicious. Next time. I will try a sandwich. The pickles are the best I have ever had ! read more

We arrived right when they opened to a warm and inviting team. We asked the sweet woman taking our order what her favorite bagel is...the famous yeast bagel. We ordered coffee, a pastrami egg and cheese on the yeast bagel, as well as a smoked salmon bagel on everything. Both were so delicious and filling, but the pastrami was our favorite. The bagels had a perfect crust on the outside and soft, chewy inside. So good! I wish I was local, because the lunch menu looked incredible! Side note that the location was perfect. Overpriced and underfed. Imitation of a Jewish Deli. With virtually no competition in Marin how difficult is it to serve an authentic sandwich. No ambience at all. Loveski seems to be a popular morning stop and is conveniently located across from the larkspur ferry and in this cute little shopping center. Both times we have stopped here for bagels, it's considerably busy. We've tried the herb cream cheese and the onion and chive cream cheese options here with everything bagels as well as the latkes and pastrami sandwich. There is definitely a strong dill taste to most of what we have tried, so keep that in mind. The pastrami bagel sandwich was really filling and a different take on a classic breakfast sandwich option. The latkes are ABSOLUTELY delicious and fresh... They're a must get! read more

Hear me out... This spot is nice, fine bagels but not very attentive customer service. I have come here couple of times at this point. Got the salmon bagel specialty one. It's great and tasty. However my last experience wasn't up to my what I would call "good customer experience". I stand in line for 20 minutes give or take. Labor Day weekend. It's hot. I am ready to swallow my bagel. I see that they have at least 5 plain bagels still left. By the time I reach the cashier they only had 1. I asked the cashier to check if they have extra bagels because I wanted 2 plain bagels with smoked salmon. She checked in the back and said no, that's the only 1 bagel. As soon she started taking it, she told me that she can't give me the plain bagel because an online order came in and they have dibs on it. I was stunned. She started by saying "you do understand that because the order came before you, they have dibs on it". I understand it but why the hell you didn't take the bagel out of the front cabinet? To me that's unfortunate situation. I believe that she should have taken the bagel out as soon the online came in so it is not misinterpreted to a customer that they have more bagels. I've been wanting to try this place for a while but every time I've tried the line was out the door. I finally caught them when the line was not as long! I waited in line for about 15 minutes and grabbed some pickles to buy while in line. I ordered the braised brisket Sandwhich and sat down, it took about 15-20 more minutes to get my food. I really liked the Sandwhich and can't wait to go back for another one! The pickles I felt were a waste of money as they literally just tasted like salty cucumbers which was very disappointing. This is a Marin institution now! We come here for weekend morning bagels, before sports games, for lunch, or just for a snack. My kids love the bagels here. They have other items for food. I've gotten breakfast plates, hot dog bagels, soups, and other sandwiches. You order at the counter and if you're sitting in, they bring the food to you. I would love to see them tweak their menu - it's such a good concept about so many items just don't sound good or aren't very well executed. But some things are standouts. They have some chickpea thing with peppers and other veggies that is so good. They have a brisket sandwich that would be a knockout if it had good cheese on it, not canned processed cheese sauce. Their bagels are just ok. Heir matzoh ball soup is unique but doesn't do it for me. They have a vegan chickpea sandwich that would be so good with less mayo and some more chopped veggies. I've been wanting to try this place for sometime and finally came here on a Tuesday for lunch. Food 3/4: I ordered smoked salmon on an everything bagel. The smoked salmon bagel wasn't anything extraordinary and in fact had very little salmon on it. For $18 I expected a little more smoke salmon. The bagel itself was good and tasted pretty fresh but again nothing special about it. Service 4/5: the bagel took a while to come out despite it not being anything that needed to be really cooked. There wasn't that many people either in the restaurant that would cause a back up and delay in the food coming out either. Parking 5/5: the restaurant sits in a plaza with plenty of Parking. However, parking can get tricky as this plaza can get pretty busy. Overall just an average restaurant. read more

Nothing like a real reuben, and incredibly overpriced at $22. More cheese than meat on the reuben. No sauerkraut. And they added kimchi, very strange. We quickly became big fans of Loveski deli in Larkspur once we found them. They offer some really great items but their Smashed Chickpea sandwich is just fabulous. With a lightly toasted bun and a load of chickpeas with vegetables and greens makes for a healthy & hearty meal, all vegan of course. They have great bagels too, many of which are vegan naturally. They really did a great job with the interior and exterior design making it a place you want to be. It's nice too that they're very dog friendly if you're sitting at an outside table, all of which are kept pretty clean. Super nice staff who are willing to get you something after you've ordered which I thought was a nice touch. It's become a really popular place so keep in mind that it gets busy at lunch. read more

We stumbled onto this cute little spot!!! I wish we werent on vacation so I could go back regularly! Huge shared parking lot available. The staff were all so kind and answered our menu questions. The bagels were that perfect chewy texture. I've never had a yeast covered bagel before but it was DELISH! The miso veggie cream cheese was very mild. If miso is new to you don't be scared! The salad was side salad size, not an entree. The tuna salad was ok, not great. That was $18! Today I decided to give them 1 more try. I ordered matzoh ball soup & a brisket sandwich. Again, unremarkable. The soup needed salt & had very little chicken flavor. There were pieces of parsnips & carrots that had little flavor. The matzoh balls? Again not great. I've had far better in real Jewish delis. The brisket was plentiful but not very flavorful. BTW, those 2 items were about $30. When you walk in you don't smell good food cooking, typically whoever is behind the counter barely acknowledges customers. The friendly person is the guy who delivers orders. It's really a plea to bring back the corned beef sandwich. I grew up in Cleveland and haven't had a plain corned beef on rye that compares to Goodman's deli that closed around 2010. Let me start by saying I love pastrami, and the pastrami here is SO good! Disclaimer that I'm mostly comparing their pastrami to Katz's in NY because it's the only other Jewish deli at the top of my mind. I came here with my bf on 1/1 for lunch, and it was almost packed, but we got a table for 2 easily. You order at the counter, get a number, and then pick a table (diner style). Then they bring you the food as it's ready. There's a few small tables indoors along with bar/counter seating. Then they also have an outdoor patio with some tables. I got the breakfast bagel with sausage (everything bagel). It was delicious, love that it comes with a latke inside. Yum! I'm a terrible judge of bagels (comparing CA to NY), but this one was very good when it comes to flavor and texture. My bf got the tradition sandwich which is your choice of pastrami or corned beef with a special mustard on rye. It comes with a homemade pickle. The pastrami (which he let me try) was so good, just enough fat and juicy. I didn't try the rye or pickle, but the mustard was good. He said the pickle was very tame (probably like the less flavorful pickle from Katz's-the greener in color one). I want to come back and try the corned beef and brisket sandwich. I like that the menu has traditional options but also some with an Asian twist, so I definitely want to try the more unique flavors next time. Service was fast and friendly. We bussed our dishes because I think you're supposed to. My only advice or "ask" would be if possible, can you provide bigger water cups? They are pretty tiny. My bf had to refill ~3 times. And my only "complaint" is that every item seemed to be a la carte. I wish a sandwich came with chips as an example. However, most delis are like this. It's just that the prices are a little high (but it's Marin and high quality food, so I get it.) The pastrami sando is $20. But it had a lot of meat, so I think it's worth it.
