Venture is a nice local store. It is a great place to shop for yourself and also a perfect place to find a gift. They have well curated selection of men's and women's clothing that fits a Bay Area lifestyle. They also carry artwork, cards, books, totes, slippers--lots of quality goods. They are friendly and helpful. They can answer questions about anything in the store and often have Ia story about the artist/designer. The Asian woman there is really nice. This is the place you go for service. You can get some locally made clothing here too. So if you are looking for clothing you can get with a click, or you don't want to talk to people about what you want to wear, avoid this place. BUT if you want people to help you find the right fit in quality clothes This is the place. On my budget, it has to be an occasional treat, but it is well worth it. I love to support a new local business. Great service and beautifully displayed (but accessible) merchandise. Unfortunately the item I received as a gift didn't fit. THey ordered a new piece in a small size and it still didn't work so they graciously returned. Worst customer service EVER. Walked into the store with a gift item to exchange or receive store credit and was denied both because I came in 1 month and 5 days over the return and exchange policy. I live in San Francisco and rarely make it into the east bay. I received the item as a gift and didn't look at the gift receipt until I walked into the store. They could care less about my satisfaction and had no sympathy for the situation I was in. Not a happy customer and will never enter foot into their establishment and will make sure my friends and family will do the same. read more

Venture Goods is the coolest store in Lafayette. I love the quality men's clothing and the new women's section featuring Free People among other brands. If you have a sense of style, you will love this store. If you have no sense of style, let Tom or Rosylyn help you look fashionable without being stuffy.The OluKai shoes I just purchased from Venture are so comfortable--I don't want to take them off. High quality and stylish clothing at reasonable prices. Tom does a great job picking out quality clothing that I would call stylish, but not 'flashy.' Venture has become my 'go to' spot for clothing and I seem to always be able to find something I like. If you are beyond Banana Republic, Gap, J Crew, Macy's but find Nordstrom too 'stuffy'...Venture can hit the sweet-spot. Great brands that I know...Patagonia, Barbour, Red Wing, AG. New brands (many California based) like Blade and Blue and Doublewood. The men's section is most robust although they seem to be building on a nice variety of women's clothing as well. They also have nice accessories (Belts, Socks, lotions, etc.) that you might not see in many other local stores. Rosylyn and Tom get to know their customers and create a great shopping experience. They know me and not only have a great attention to style, but are great at making me comfortable and welcome in their store. read more

This place is neato. Got myself a new wallet, a Bellroy Card Sleeve, so I knew what I wanted when I came in. I used Yelp's new "message the business" feature the day before and I got a reply from Tom within 20 minutes. Prettyyyyy cool. Excellent service. In the shop was no different. Tom has the perfect balance of a knowledgeable salesman and a cool cat, without the possible pretentiousness of either of those things. I was given some clothes for Christmas that were purchased here and loved all of them. The pants I was given didn't fit so I brought them in and they were happy to hem them for me. If this store were in Tahoe, you'd be making up reasons to make the trek just to visit the store. Not only do they have the coolest clothing from Patagonia, Barbour and the high-end brands, but also lesser known CA-made brands. Everything is of exceptional quality and has that "cool" element to it. The clothes they sell are for people buying quality over quantity - people who visit will likely see something, love it....then leave w/o buying it only to come back b/c it haunted them until they bought it. The staff is VERY knowledgeable and very service-oriented. Well worth a visit to anyone driving down the 24E corridor or anywhere near Lafayette-Orinda-Walnut Creek. UPDATE : They have the best SUMMER gear in Nor CA (not just winter gear). I found the kind of shorts you see on someone and think "DAMN those are cool shorts. Where did he get them (but you can't ask)?!" The store is full of clothing that's sensational for lounging in the E Bay heat, getting wet in Tahoe, hiking the hills, etc...Worth a visit in the winter or summer (of fall or spring). It's almost like someone went to REI and gathered up all the best stuff (and then some) to save you from sorting through it all. I'll also add that the staff is knowledgeable and friendly while never being pushy. I had my four year old with me, and the store had legos, an iPad, etc...to keep him entertained. read more

I've been building my Venture wardrobe for over a year now. Their clothing is high quality and distinctive; much of it designed and made in California. Tom and Roslyn and their team have amazing style sense, are low pressure and extremely friendly. The store feels like an extension of your own home with a big leather sofas and a coffee table in back. There are always fun things happening at Venture; trunk shows, wine tastings, cool bicycles and skateboards on display, local art on the walls. But ultimately is the the high quality American made products and the passion the staff has for clothes ( and putting people in them) that keep me coming back. Hurrah for Venture!!! read more

We first stumbled upon Venture a month or so ago. We were wandering up and down Mount Diablo Boulevard, walking off our lunch and checking out the sights. We ended up in front of Venture. Since it was a men's clothing store, my fiancé thought he'd go in and check it out. We had our dog, Teddy, with us, so I opted to wait outside. My fiancé walked in, looked around for what seemed like a few minutes, and then came outside raving about how he wanted to buy everything in the store. So, while he browsed, I waited at the doorway with Teddy so that I could check out anything that he liked. The employees soon noticed Teddy and promptly told us that our dog was welcome in the store! So, Teddy and I joined in on the shopping. They had a ton of clothing options for both men and women. Prices range from moderate to expensive. The clothing is all from companies located in California and is very well made. They had a great sale section (40% off!) that we totally took advantage of. The employees are extremely friendly and helpful. We've been back to Venture a couple of times since and are always happy with our experience and purchases. My fiancé is now much better dressed. There I've bought shirts, shorts and sweaters for my husband and son, and a great jacket for me. It's a bit expensive, but I find it worth it.
