Dropped by El Gordo for dinner on a cold Saturday. It's a small hole in the wall restaurant with a few seats, I'm guessing most of their business is take out orders. They brought their aji verde, or Peruvian green chili sauce, first. I love aji sauce, since it's a little salty and spicy. It goes well with my usual pollo a la brasa, which came with a side of rice and beans. It was pretty dry. Surprisingly, they even managed to dry out the dark, thigh meat. It was seasoned well, but the dry, overcooked meat was a turn off. The rice and beans were pretty standard. Not bad, but not great. I've gotten better Peruvian food in more comfortable restaurants for better prices.

I paid $16, almost $17 for a small plate of lomo saltado that bought a little portion of rice and barely any meat . Never again

I paid $16 almost $17 for this small meal . Feel ripped off none the less . You would expect it to be enough to feed two people at least but this was disappointing. They act as if it's a fancy restaurant in the suburbs when it's not . Way too overpriced and the portions are small . Never again

I always go her for lunch since it is only a few blocks walking distance from my job. There are days in which they are busy but i have never waited for a table! Their lunch specials are always different but always as delicious! The usual soup, entree and drink deal for $7.25, who can go wrong with that. And their portion are also very good. When I don't feel like having the lunch special I go for a traditional peruvian dish such as the lomo or a chaufa. I think the best thing I like about this restaurant is that with a 30 minute lunch (which is sooooo short) I can get in and out regardless what I order without having to rush eating my food and it always tastes delicious! The servers are super nice as well they are always making sure you are ok and if you need something else. P.S. They have a card limit of $10 so make sure to bring cash if your only going for the lunch special

Came by a couple times and loved the food here. Tried the lomo saltado and tallarin verde con pollo. Delicious! They give you a big portion for a good price. Staffs are super friendly and helpful with recommendations.

    Freshly made chicha.

Another good local restaurant. My mom said that she used to go here for their chicken many years ago when she lived here in New Jersey. Got the chicken. All I have to say is, it was really good. Flavorful. Some parts of it were kind of dry but I'm not that nit picky. Salad that came on the side was refreshing. Good hot sauce too. Tried their chicha and it was absolutely delicious. Tasted like it was just made. You can't go wrong with fresh chicha. Friendly little establishment that feels very welcoming. I rate 5/5.

Nice little place. There are 3 people working here so be patient. It's a home cooked meal. Very affordable. Cash only and they only serve whatever is on the menu that day. The soup & entree had a lot of flavor. I would come back.

THE GOOD ----------------…read more+ The food and, more specifically, seafood was AMAZINGLY fresh and delicious!!! ++++ Grilled Octopus appetizer with lemon garlic butter was to die for. Octopus was soooooooo tender and the restaurant's signature lemon garlic butter was a perfect compliment to it. ++++ Surf and Turf was, once again, PERFFFFFECT. Order came with a (hugeeee) 12 oz. ribeye and 10 oz. lobster tail. Both were as good as it gets anywhere. ++++ Branzino with rice and fries was excellent! The branzino was extremely bony, as you would expect, but the fish meat was sooooooo good. Rice was very flavorful and the fries were some of the crispiest I've EVER had. ++++ Mint Lemonade was absolutely refreshing. One of the best refresher drinks we've ever had anywhere. + Spacious and bright interior. Bright blue and white walls and floors make you feel like you're actually in the Mediterranean. + Parking lot is right outside of the restaurant and there are 8 spots in total, but it's on a steep slope that leads up to the restaurant entrance. THE NOT SO GOOD ---------------------------- - The waiter was very, verrrry nice, but, for some odd reason, the side of rice for the Branzino came out 30 minutes after the Branzino arrived on the table!!!! This is not an exaggeration. The waiter kept promising it was coming out soon, but it just took longer and longer and longer to arrive till I was already done with my entree. - The restaurant automatically added a service charge of 15% for just the 2 of us. Typically, you see this for large parties, NOT for parties of 2. With that said, we were a bit surprised it was only 15% though considering 18% seems like the minimum these days. MIXED THOUGHTS --------------------------- = Nada. RANDOM OBSERVATIONS -------------------------------------- = Dined here on an early Monday afternoon from 12:15 - 1:45 and only when we were leaving did another party finnnnaaaalllly come in. We had the whole restaurant to ourselves until then. CONCLUSION -------------------- = Bottom line, the food is spectacular here. I don't use that word lightly. Our meal here was as good as we've had in a longgg time.

Great ambiance, food, staff, service, drinks, decor, I loved it all!!!!…read more I picked to come back for Mother's Day. We had reservations, and we were seated on time. We never sat inside so were super excited . And I must say it was absolutely perfect. We must have had 5 separate ppl taking great care of us. Made us feel like VIP. The food was beyond delicious. We had a large group, and they seated us at 2 separate and crowded tables in the side room, which was less than ideal (with a reservation). It also got really hot because the room was packed. They were pushing us to order everything family style, but everyone wanted to order individually. The two of us weren't super hungry, and asked for our entrees to be on a separate check before ordering, which they would not do. Since I knew we were going to end up splitting the check with the one table, I ended up getting a more expensive entree to make up for the apps and drinks we weren't having (I already had a drink from the bar and my husband doesn't drink). I settled on the special lobster carbonara (which I think was $75). Good, but overpriced. My husband had the filet mignon - it was cooked as requested but we prefer more seasoning. A friend passed her grilled scallops over to us to finish - I took one bite and it tasted like ammonia. I discreetly spat it out. For her sake, I hope the rest didn't taste like that. The atmosphere was loud and hard to have conversations. They did a conga line around the restaurant later in the evening. Not really my scene. Service was slow and it didn't seem like they could handle big groups, even when split up. We ended up staying here for about 3 hours. We ended up leaving before we were even offered dessert. Also, keep in mind they have valet parking.

When I told my mom where we were going her reaction- "omg that place is still around?!? It use to be excellent back in the day!" Well I am happy to report this place is just as good today as it was during my mother's heyday. I decided to get a few oysters and clams to start off with and everything was just so fresh. As an entree the Seafood in a spicy red sauce was easily one of the best I have had in a very long time. There was a generous amount of seafood within the dish, the sauce I swear I could just drink it out of a cup and the pasta was cooked perfectly. My husband got the bbq ribs which I didn't try but you could see how they just slid right off the bone and he couldn't stop talking about how good they were. We ended our meal with some strong espresso. I enjoyed how it is a very casual atmosphere with a nice bar area that had a few TVs to watch some sports games. No need to dress to impress. The service was a little bit on the slower side but the waitress was very nice. The man who brought out my oysters, I asked him which were the east coast and which where in the west coast oysters, along with asking him where in the west coast my oysters were from and he couldn't tell me.
