The place is so scrubbed clean that it smells like a janitors closet. Your nose burns from the fumes and there is not a trace of food cooking aroma. The service borders on aggressive. The carnitas was a burned out dry wreck. No flavor, no moisture, obviously made days ago and reheated. The salsa was a can of tomatoes blended with some chopped onion. Bland. Another hidden gem in Middletown. Sits back off the road and out of the way. Service is excellent - they are fast and bring you chips and salsa right away, with constant refills without having to ask. The food is really good and a lot of it. I always get the Beef Taco salad bowl and it is awesome. You wont leave hungry and the prices are pretty reasonable. Give it a try and you will be back. Not to shabby! The service was excellent! Our waitress was new, but was patient and answered all of our questions even if she had to go ask the kitchen. The margaritas were very good! The salsa had good flavor but not hot what so ever. The queso dip also lacked flavor. I was most disappointed in the verde salsa, it was awful. Good thing the service and atmosphere made up for it. The staff that I encountered was 5-star except for the grumpy faced lady behind the bar that never acknowledge me at the 3 chair bar (que pedo ruquita). The guy bartender did ask ask me if I needed anything eventually.... thanks it was appreciated. I assume waiters tend to you at the bar because that was my experience there which is fine. I ordered a michilada modelo negro and I got a regular model. Mistake ... god no, I heard the waiter tell the bar tender. I heard it mentioned by the bar tenders. Instead of telling me they didn't have it it was assumed it wasn't a big deal and gave me a regular modelo. This in itself is not enough to give this place 2 stars but please please get my food right. I ordered camarones a la diabla which should be spicy shrimp in a red sauce. Before I ordered I asked if they were hot and was asked how hot you want them? I replied very hot using my thumbs up pumping motion to let him know I wanted my bung hole to burn in the morning as I released them back into water. Instead I got sweet shrimp, barely any kick to them. The waiter asked me a few minutes later if everything was ok and I said no these are sweet. He nodded and asked if I would like some habanero to spice it up. The thought in my head was do I look like a chef¿ I said no thank you. My sister and I went there for lunch today and was very happy with the service and the food. Our server Ish was great and extremely helpful and patient with us. We had never been there before and had several questions concerning the food and he was very helpful. The food was fresh and flavorful. We both got the lunch Chimi with rice and salad. Terrible service! Okay my server was fine, but the other servers in the place were complete jerks. They were so awful, I'll never go here again. My dad and I came in earlier during a very slow time. I asked if they could turn on the Reds game and my server was happy to oblige. Then two other male servers loudly complained about changing the channel. They made me feel like an asshole when all I wanted to do was see a baseball game. I heard one guy say that he was mad because it was slow so he'd get to watch the soccer game that was on the TV. My server changed the channel, but within 10 minutes it was back on soccer. The service staff shouldn't make their customers feel awful for simply asking to put on a baseball game. And the real kicker is that the TV behind the bar was playing How I Met Your Mother. It's clear that the staff there believes the tvs are for their use only. I've been in the industry for a long time and I've never seen a more entitled staff. Completely unacceptable. There are better Mexican restaurants in Middletown. This place shouldn't be trying their best to make sure customers feel unwelcome. read more

Yet another excellent meal at Vera Cruz Mexican restaurant. I had the #48 I believe. 2 golden chimichangas, 1 Beef and 1 chicken served with rice and beans. Everything is so delicious and obviously very fresh ingredients, served hot and fresh. Not to mention the endless chips, salsa, and queso dip at the table while we were waiting on our order. I just love this place. I have friends that come from miles away to enjoy their food. The only thing that was slightly disturbing was their choice and music they played in the restaurant it one song was traditional Mexican music , and the next song would be some form of rap which I felt was a little unorthodox. If they would do away with the rap-like music The Experience would be absolutely perfect! (and it would be if they would do a with the crazy music. This is a top notch Mexican restaurant! It's a huge space with two dining rooms. Service was prompt and friendly. I ordered a chicken and cheese enchillada, which was absolutely smothered in melted cheddar. The chips were fresh and warm, and the salsa is housemade. I didn't love the salsa, which had no spice to it and had that metallic tang tomatoes get from the aluminum can. We had to ask for hot sauce, but once I tossed some in, it got a lot better. Rather than the usual Mexican music (which is great, you expect that), they were playing more current pop songs, which was fun and made me feel like I should be going to a zumba class. My Pinterest side got all geeked out: they had the coolest paper flower garland strung up in the dining room that had clearly been handmade and added such charm! Prices were comparable to most other Mexican places in the area.
