One of my favorite tea shops - and I've been to many in So. Cal and Nor. Cal! The atmosphere is great, with a big screen television on one side, dimmed lights above, natural hues on the walls and chatter all around. The drinks come in a standard large size, but they are made from powder. I used to be a fan of boba (or pearl, as others call it) milk tea, but now I am addicted to grass jelly. At Verde, the grass jelly comes in large chunks that easily slide up the straw apart as you drink, not the usual little firm squares of jelly I was used to. The milk tea is, as many have already said, spot on -- not too sweet, just right and a little foamy. The workers are friendly, service fast, prices good. The only thing is that it can get a little crowded, so definitely plan on grabbing a drink and walking around Castro Street which is always plus if you're there with friends. read more

Service isn't always the best and the layout doesn't quite make sense to me, but Verde is one of my staple milk tea places. I like the frothy style and stick to a few of their flavors. The drinks are on the sweeter side, but aren't overly sweet. The boba could be a bit chewier for me, but they're generally pretty good. If you want to use your cc spend more than $5 dollars. Also, unlike its Cupertino sister they let you sit inside without a minimum purchase. They also do snacks and meals. Taiwan toast and popcorn chicken are popular snacks and as long as you're not looking for health food their meals aren't bad. They're a bit too salty for me so I try not to have them too often, but once in a while I'll indulge the food triforce of sugar, fat, and salt. read more

I've always wondered the logic behind having a Spanish name for an Asian boba place. Random observances aside, this place must be doing something right for me to come by pretty much three times a week. But I guess it's a couple of things that make it an interesting spot: 1) The regular boba sizes about the same as the large at most other places. Definitely a plus if you're looking for more sippage for your buck. 2) They have some cheap food specials here which are actually pretty good. For example there's Curry Chicken (yellow chinese curry) that comes with either a free black or green tea for $6. The size of these lunch plates are pretty huge, and include minced pork rice and tofu salad. Taste wise, the food isn't too shabs. Maybe a little salty at times but overall nothing a little tea won't fix. I'd say the money go-to good item is the minced pork bowl. They pack that thing like a clown car and give you a tea egg just cause they're awesome. 3) The tea here isn't overly sweet which I like. It might be because I generally get either the black or green tea, so your results may vary. Especially if you're getting some peach mango milk surprise or other flavor that more than likely tastes as sweet as it sounds. 4) Pretty chill with multiple outlets and tables, and its usually not crazy busy. Ironically this has become my spot whenever I go on a Yelp review binge. Overall it's not THE best boba I've had, but it's definitely in the vicinity. 3.5 stars I know 1/2 you guys looking at this page are looking to sneak your daily dose of boba into that swanky Mountain view movie theatre. If this is the case, I would not recommend ordering the jumbo (and I mean JUMBO) unless you have a structured purse because the cup does not have a sealed cap. The milk teas here are creamy and frothy, just the way I like it. They have a variety of non-fruit flavors as well. They have the best fried calamari here but the worst popcorn chicken. My 'ladybug' friend order passion tea, and 'honey-nut' ordered buttered toast and org. boba milk tea. Service was prompt, they also have hot grass jelly, shaved ice, and other snacks on their menu. The place is small and somewhat trendy. Street parking only, prompt service. Worth the escape from Crittenden! I would like to credit Verde with starting my pearl milk tea obsession. I love their boba, but I'm a fan of sweeter milk tea, which is why I'm rating them a four. I've tried their regular milk tea, hot milk tea, and smoothies, but my favorite is still the original. For a sweeter taste, I'd go with the hazelnut tea and if you're feeling like fruit then try their smoothies - with boba, of course! My personal favorite is strawberry. Their salty fried chicken and brick toast are good if you're looking for something more filing than milk tea. They recently added a cheesecake/milk tea deal, but it doesn't seem as popular as the other foods. Their service is good and the waiters are friendly. They have large portions and each drink is around $3. It's right in the middle of Downtown Mountain View, which makes it a great location for a post-dinner snack. Hours last until around 12:30am and I always find myself spending much longer here than expected: sitting, drinking, and talking. After having tried Tea Era the day before, I dropped by in the afternoon to try out Verde Tea Cafe. There was a small line but it moved fast and I ordered a Red Bean smoothie with boba. The decor in this place is pretty good and unlike many other bubble tea places, I wouldn't mind sitting down here for some food or conversation. The pearls here was pretty good and comparable to Tea Era, which I thought stood out as one of the best I've had in the bay area. i came here with some friends for afternoon tea, since some wanted cold bubble tea and some (like myself) wanted hot tea. note that this cafe also serves snack items such as taiwanese toast, fried chicken, and cheesecake. i ordered a hot ginger tea ($2.99) which had a very strong ginger flavour, but it was sweetened with sugar to cut some of the bitter aftertaste. since i have a bit of a sore throat, the ginger was very therapeutic for me. if anything, i felt they could have added less sugar. i appreciated that it was a large cup, probably around 16oz, so a lot of ginger for my throat! service was very fast! as soon as i paid and sat down, my number was called and my cup of tea was ready. the seating area is very nice here, although i've heard that this is due to recent renovations being completed at this cafe. the tables and chairs are very modern looking and quite comfortable. there is also a bathroom in the back of this small cafe. read more

I moved back from Boston a year ago (after only 6 months away) and Verde had become this yuppy looking place. I like the old Verde much better, it was much more chill. This remodel is trying too hard to be upscale and cool, but it really just looks kind of lame and there is waaaay less seating. I still come in once in awhile to get PMT, although I am still on my first VIP card after about a year. Last night I stopped by to get some salted fried chicken to go. When I poked my skewer into the bag, I was shocked to find the chicken pieces had bones! They were wings and drumsticks!! Is it not common to have boneless fried chicken with pearl milk tea? I didn't even ask, but I guess I should have. Still, it tasted pretty good, but was mighty messy to eat. Skewers don't help, why bother sticking them in the bag. Next time, I'll run across Castro to Tapioca Express. read more

I used to really love this place. It's a great place to sit for hours whether on your laptop (you get 2 hours of free wi-fi) or to people watch and catch up with friends. It gets pretty packed after-dinner and on weekends, but the traffic and service usually moves pretty fast. Additionally, this place offers a great snack menu with both savory and sweet options (crispy salty chicken or thick toast, anyone?). And, unlike other boba places (as well as its sister store Verde Cupertino), you don't need to have a $5 minimum order per person to sit. It's no wonder this place is always packed! Verde started out a solid four-star in my book. This place runs like a well oiled machine, but over time the quality has been compromised for efficiency: their boba has become inconsistent (sometimes undercooked, other times overcooked, but always tasteless) and the "tea" has become bland and overly sweet (even when you ask for it to be toned down). If you opt for the milk tea, be prepared not to be able to tell black tea from green tea. It all tastes like a melted watery milkshake. Isn't it tragic that a tea shop would care so little about tea? Nowadays I opt for their fresh fruit squeeze (grapefruit and honey) or, if I must, plain tea sans the milk (powder). For good solid tea, I'd say stop by Tea Era for deeper tea flavors and consistently sweet "al dente" boba. Sigh, Verde, you used to have it all -- why can't I have my boba and eat it too!? read more

I had heard of this place before and always wanted to try it. Well, I tried it and it really wasn't that awesome. First off, it was a lot smaller than I imagined. Second peeve: their milk tea, which I'm assuming is their main staple. It was way sweeter than I'm used to. Actually, twas so sweet I got a headache & only finished 1/8 of it. And dude - the regular size is huge! It's like on steroids. I remember the days back in the early 90's when I would drive out to Milpitas just to get my pearl milk tea or black tea pearl with jelly drink. Those days are gone because I finally found a better place and its closer to where I live. Pearl teas have became overrated with regional establishments like Quickly and Fantasia. These places degrade the quality and beef up the prices. When most food stores open they use quality ingredients, and as time passes by, the quality reduces as prices go up. Some people are loyal to the places they frequent and resist change. In all my 8 years, Verde Green Tea has always kept up with its same taste and value. They have a great menu with Toasts, Lunch Specials, Shaved Ice, Coffees and Teas. My favorites are both Mint Green Tea with Pearls, Mango Smoothie with Pearls, and hot Milk Tea with Small Pearls. Hot Summer days are great for Shaved Ice with Condensed Milk and fresh Mango slices. Chewy Black Pearls with always the right amount of sweetener and cooked to perfection. Plus they carry small pearls for those who don't want to choke on them and great for small children. The hours are great and they open late. The place is always packed with people. Free Wifi is always good. It's located right off Castro Street close to light rail. One drawback is that this place could use more space in Mountain View. There's just barely enough room to walk through to get in or out of the door. One star less for the cramped space. But overall 4 stars. read more

1 star to start. Food (1 star): I'm a big fan of the teas with aloe as I've found a lot of milk tea places don't offer aloe. I've been getting the mango tea with aloe of late and it is very good. They also have fried chicken and various other food items, which are good for a late night snack. Service (0.5 stars): They've undergone a lot of staffing changes of late, but service has actually gotten better. There can be a wait on busy nights, both to order and to receive your drinks. Value (1 star): For the same price as most other milk tea places, you get significantly more drink here. It definitely is the best value and the food items are reasonably priced as well. Experience (0.5 star): I really like coming here for milk tea as it's in a convenient location and open very late. Unfortunately, there is a wait many times and the layout of the restaurant is not conducive to the long lines. The waiting area is the same as the entrance/exit and this does not make for a good combination. It also feels very cramped inside and they have strict rules such as "no loud noise, no play games, no cellphone". I've been a regular patron of this place since my college days. What keeps me coming back here is the fact that they actually use real fruit (instead of the artificial syrup stuff) in some of their drinks. My favorite is the Kiwi Kiss with pearls, followed by the other items on their Frozen Romance menu (as I think these are the ones with fruit / juice). Their actual milk tea and food items are not bad either. The only thing I don't like about this place is the poor spatial design. I actually liked it better before the remodel, when it was brighter, less claustrophobia-inducing, and played Asian music videos. I get that they're trying to be more mainstream with the "darker," wannabe Starbucks design (Jay Chou videos have sadly been replaced by bad English movies), but this led to more problems. The entrance/line for ordering is always really, really cramped, and there's a lack of ample seating. The bar / counter where they make the drinks take up way more space than the actual space for customers. When we do manage to snag a table, I can't help feeling a bit claustrophobic since the tables/seats are all pushed up next to each other. As a result, I end up taking my boba to go most of the time. This place is narrow and tiny, but it's clean and nicely decorated, of course with flat screen TVs in the back. I always came here for regular milk tea or the black sesame one (with pudding!). Sometimes the flavored drinks can be a little too sweet (not super consistent). As for food, I knew they had the typical stuff like basil fried chicken, sweet potato fries, and thick toast, but I just found out they have other Taiwanese food, too. The ground pork over rice (lu rou fan) had really good flavor and used pretty lean meat. The curry chicken was a Japanese style curry, slightly milder, with big chunks of chicken, carrots, and potato over rice. I love Taiwanese rice plates, so I was excited to find out they had it here. Probably easier to do take out, since it's such a small place. The irony of this place is that Verde is actually now Rojo. Aside from the drastic interior change, the place is now targeted toward more matured mac cafe friendly sophisticated people. Back in the days, Verde was actually a pretty laid back joint for us Palo Alto kids. Brighter color, brighter light, round tables. Now the set-up is like a place for blind dates, with a club like bathroom... The pearl milk tea here is pretty decent, if you are the type that digs the foam from being shaken. Yes Pearl, not boba, this is norcal. I always get the almond milk tea, taro is not bad either. The tea here is great, but the food not so much. The salty fried chicken is decent, but often has a lot of random chewy parts that I often question if it is actually chicken I am eating. Verde is less keen on the food now, they used to advertise cheap minced pork rice combos and toasts much more prominently... To be honest, I only really hit up this place now as a rendezvous to meet up with my friends. If you want a place to just relax and chitchat, Tapioca Express would be a better location, minus the flies. But if you are digging Pearl Milk Tea unlike other chained tea places, Verde should definitely be in your addition. p.s. They have a typo on the menu board. This is my favorite place to drink milk tea in the Bay Area. The seats are nice, and I really like the wooden feel of the interior. It saddens me to give verde such a bad review after spending tons of time here during college, but it's much deserved due to their downhill spiral of poor service, shitty tea, and general uncleanliness. Service - not very pleasant when ordering. I tried to change my boba to pudding one second after I ordered, and the cashier girl laughed and said "no sorry" in a rude mocking manner. My friends also got their order messed up and forgotten about. Tea - super sweet and tastes like powder, definitely not the authentic, high quality stuff. The earl grey tastes like soap bubbles. I think they try to make up for it with their large portions, but it doesn't help to drink a bigger cup of crap. Cleanliness - messy bathrooms that look like they're cleaned once a week. The seating area itself was also dirty with lots of plates left out on empty tables and stuff on the ground in the dining and kitchen area. Overall, go to tea era or ocha instead. Everyone always raves about Verde being the best boba place...this location was just okay. Every time i come here my cup is filled with ice and the drink isn't too special. I've tried the milk tea, thai tea, skinny beauty, watermelon, grapefruit and mango. I like the fresh fruit selection only because it has aloe (aloe = so yummy!). -During my recent visit i noticed new workers there and my drink tasted better =) Hopefully it'll continue to be good from here on out. The original V to the erde, Verde. I remember coming here 10 years ago, when I first started college (uh oh, showing my age a wee bit). Still at the same location but better layout. They had tables all around, games to play, and the bar was at the back. These days, they have a most fire-hazard-like layout. As soon as you enter through the door (if you can, because most of the time there is a line snaking out throught he door) and you're instantly at the cash register. People are bumping into each other, not sure if they're in line still or if they're waiting for drinks. It's confusing and crowded, ALL. THE. TIME. Even when there isn't much of a crowd, the layout is a mess. Still, the milk tea is the same. Frothly loveliness and a good size beverage. I always get the milk tea. Sad to say though, their sister Cupertino location has the better milk tea (although similar layout, less claustrophobic feeling). I miss the old days of the open layout and games (they no longer off the latter either), sitting with my cousins with milk teas in hand, discussing college. I still come here from time to time since its close to my house but if I had the choice, I'd choose the Cupertino location hands down. read more

I've been coming here since I moved to Mountain View a couple years ago, and it's always been a pretty good place to get a milk tea drink with pearls. The staff is impressively fast producing the drink orders, and the snack foods that they have aren't too bad either. I'm a big fan of the chicken pieces that they have. Not too long ago, I discovered "pudding milk tea" at Verde. I ordered it on a whim, after several months of getting the regular -- milk tea with pearls. I figured that it would be like tapioca pudding or some vanilla pudding mixed in with milk tea, but to my surprise, it was actually mango pudding pieces mixed in with the milk tea. Chinese mango pudding is more like a jell-o than an American pudding (and not like a bread pudding). The mango pudding at Verde is pretty good, and I recommended it to my friends, who reluctantly tried it, only to discover that they liked it too. It gets pretty crowded and loud on the weekends, but it can be a good kick-it place with friends if you're looking for a low-key spot to hang out for a little bit. read more

We'd just finished dinner in Mountain View and were driving around looking for dessert. Deciding to pass on Tapioca Express and found that Verde Tea was still open. We rushed over and the place was packed even 20 minutes to close! Being the adventurous sort I decided to try the plum smoothie. The lady at the counter explained there were two types of plums: salt and sweet, or sweet and tart. I went with sweet and tart and it was amazing! It did have a bit of a salty flavor to it but it complimented the tart so well. My mouth begins to water as I try to describe it. I will definitely get this drink again. We also got the watermelon juice with agave syrup and aloe jelly which got a thumbs up from our friend who is particular about what he eats. And finally we got an Earl Grey Milk Tea with tapioca which also got raving compliments for its consistency, concentration of flavor, and general deliciousness. We will visit again probably every time we are in Mountain View and craving boba (which is always, of course). It's open until 11:30 every night and doesn't open until late morning (11ish). read more

Stopped by Verde Tea Cafe for a small snack to eat after attending a late-night symphony and it wasn't all that great. I've been to many Taiwanese and HK cafes that serves their version of a thick-toast (2.5inches bread fried in an egg-laden batter with flavored-spread in between and syrup on top) so their Taiwan Thick Toast appealed to me. We got the Strawberry Thick Toast with butter for $2.30 with tax . Although the toast was presented in a cute little box, the actual toast was nothing like how I imagined. It was a barely toasted single-slice of buttered-bread with strawberry jam on top. To be honest, it tasted soggy and not toasted. There was nothing special about their Strawberry Toast. It wasn't "thick" and it wasn't really toasted. For $2.30 guests, you can easily buy a bag of bread from a grocery store and recreate a better Taiwanese thick toast..just look up recipes from Google. Although I didn't order any drinks, my friends ordered the Red Bean Milk Tea and weren't impressed by the flavor. Pass on the toast, you'll thank me later! read more

The first Boba place I've visited back in 2011 when I first moved out here to California. Great place for that late night gossip sessions or studying! I always get their honeydew milk tea with pearls, make sure to ask for less sugar since a) it's bad for you and b) verde's drinks are very sweet in general. Other boba flavors that I like: jasmine milk tea, peach milk tea. Milk teas taste better than straight teas (imho) Over the course of four years, their milk tea shop has been going up and down. For example, in 2012 and 2013 there are times that I can smell bad odor coming out of the kitchen. Today (2015 June) - boba remains delicious! Yummy! Like my undergrad days in LA, I needed a treat as a break from studying. So, I decided to take a walk and see what Mountain View had to offer. A friend and I stumbled across this place on Villa Street and noticed it was packed with people (usually a good sign). Everyone inside and out was holding a drink of some sort. So, my friend and I ventured inside and were excited to see their huge menu offerings. I ordered a Taro Milk Tea with Pearls and my friend ordered an Almond Milk Tea with Pearls. DELICIOUS! It totally cheered me up and relieved some stress. My friend and I have been back several times and are still quite pleased with the drinks and the Taiwan Thick Toast with Peanut Butter. Yummy x 2!
