Verde y Crema is one of my go-to spots when in downtown TJ. Whether I'm with a group, looking for a nice meal, or wanting just a drink with some live music, they have it all. The food here is so, so good. I love how different the menu is and there are so many great things to choose from, we almost always end up ordering several plates to share so we can eat a little bit of it all! I will say that my favorite dish is definitely the Res Braseada. The meat is always cooked perfectly and just melts in your mouth. But the tacos are all good, the birria sandwich is bomb (and the fries that come with it, too), and the elotes.... get the elotes! They've got a great selection of beers and their wine is good, too. The different levels lend themselves well to whatever kind of vibe you're feeling, but no worries, the service is bomb no matter where you decide to plant yourself. Went around 4pm on a Saturday, so it wasn't busy yet. It was kind of strange walking up because it wasn't obvious where to check in. If you want to eat in the restaurant, don't go all the way to the top (that's a bar area I think). We were greeted quickly and brought water, which was refreshing with the rosemary. I ordered a Mezcal cocktail that I forget the name of. It was oddly kind of thick, but still good. We started with the cauliflower ceviche, which was light and refreshing. It had great citrus flavor with a hint of spice. My husband ordered the birria grilled cheese, which was huge. He really enjoyed it. I got the seared yellowtail. The fish was cooked nicely, and the accompanying veggies were really good as well. Overall the service was friendly and food was good. We would go back. Maybe a little pricier than some of the other restaurants around, but still reasonable and worth the stop. They have an interesting variety of menu items. Where do I start. The location is nice. Right in the heart of a bustling safe street. If you sit on the top floor there's a room where you have a view of the street - but it's for smokers. So if you don't like smoke... it might not be the spot for you. Ordered. Braised meat? I forgot what it was. The best thing we ordered. It had squash. Carrots and potatoes in the dish. I don't have a picture of that. The meat broke easily when a fork was used. Nice and tender. Flavor good. Rib eye - I like good steak. I recently was in Cabo at minus and had 4oz melt in your mouth A5 wagyu. Also was recently in a place in Costa Mesa also with a wagyu cut. So... this definitely fell short. They could thicken up the streak and use more salt and pepper - add a tovluch of butter in top? I dunno - it needs to be improved for sure. It came with a side of potatoes - They were instant potatoes... I definitely could taste the difference. Back in those eat what you have days - I know they were instant potatoes. The sprinkles of deep fried onions on top couldn't even save that. Crunchy pig ears with blue corn tortillas. It was crunchy but felt like a weird deep fry. I had fries that were twice fried. So I dunno if these were also fried they need to work on the texture of this. It felt like eating old fried tortilla chips. We ordered this because there was some place in Colorado that had Thai style crispy pig ears that were super good. So we were disappointed with this dish. Grill cheese sandwich - Not enough cheese. The meat inside was good. But I felt like it was more of a fancy sloppy Joe made with pulled meat. I would add more cheese or put less meat. The side of fries were twice fried. Korean tacos. They missed the mark with this. The Essence of Korean bbq is a sweet garlic sesame taste. This tasted more Chinese-Thai - they dabbed on hoisin sauce and tasted more peanut based. Pork belly tacos. Awesome thought but also missed the mark. We got there shortly after opening. I wouldn't be surprised if the pork was from the night (or so/day) before. It wasn't crunchy. If it was. The taco would have been fire. Wait staff were friendly. Bar looks nice. But apparently I don't have the only not so great review. Teach the cook and just get rid of your old food. Lots of hungry people on the street or employees that probably can use food for their families. Just saying. read more

We *accidentally* ordered vegan dishes and didn't even realize it, they were so good. The beet tacos were such a juxtaposition of flavors and textures, the service was AMAZING. Mood and vibe were just perfect. Great place for a date or to spend your whole night! read more

I would not recommend this place to someone that has a taste for authentic Mexican food. This is a last resort type of stop. Everything from receiving drinks to the food took an unreasonable amount of time. You are in TJ so you might as well just go around the corner to the taco stand it'll be much tastier and filling than here. Food didn't have much flavor at all and drinks such as the aguas frescas were very watered down. I was extremely disappointed in this place because I expected more. What a surprise! I spent an afternoon here during a quiet time of the day and left feeling very relaxed and well fed. I'm from San Diego and I've traveled a bit, so I was surprised at how many dishes here were unique and new for me. I had a seafood ceviche with a wonderful savory nutty flavor. I particularly enjoyed a tomato salad with local produce. The mezcal and wines are excellent. By the end of the afternoon, I was too full to try the banana bread dessert, which came highly recommended. I'll have to make another trip to TJ. read more

Apparently this is a new location for a restaurant that was originally located downtown. I was told the old location was much better. The new location is right across the street from Caesar's on Revolucion. Downstairs is a crowded brewpub and the restaurant is on the second floor. Beautiful place, well accented. Good soundproofing so none of the Revolucion party noise filters in. We went in winter, but I took notice of all the AC units inside, so even in summer there probably won't be an outside noise problem, although they do have a pretty cool patio overlooking the street. Bathrooms trying to be trendy, but the setup is just annoying, with communal washbasin for handwashing. The place wants to be upscale, but has some issues. The service wasn't particularly attentive, as we continually had to make eye contact with the waiter or wave him over when we needed something. My steak special was improperly prepared. A medium rare order resulted in them bringing me a bloody rare steak, cool and raw in the middle. I wouldn't mind - I can eat anything medium well or lower, but the steak itself had no seasoning at all and was very fatty and sinewy. For the price point, I would expect a steak prepared correctly, with at least a touch of salt, and trimmed somewhat before cooking. A friend's pork knuckle was presented excellently and was tasty. They specialize in Mescal, which is not a personal favorite, but I tried one at the waiter's recommendation. Not bad. They offer a selection of Mexican craft beers in addition to the old standbys. Prices very high for Tijuana. So, I didn't hate the place and will chalk the problems with this visit up to growing pains, but if I'm in the neighborhood, I'd just as soon go to Caesar's unless I get overruled by the group. read more

Looking for a late-night meal after 10 pm - difficult to find. Glad that Verde y Crema is there! The place is a bit hard to find - it's up a flight of stairs and we didn't see signage; it's diagonally across the street from Hotel Caesar's. Tried sirloin tacos and a couple sharing dishes, all very good. The chocolate con chocolate dessert is truly incredible!! read more
