I am disgusted with the level of customer service received from here both Dany and Cris their supposed manager who was outrageously disrespectful to me and denied services to me after they fell to call me back about a blood transfusion and then hung up on me while we were on the phone. I have not screamed at them or cursed at them or nothing, and I am being shut down in a way after trying to help my senior citizen mother with her cat who needs a blood transfusion, and I am literally in tears at how I have been treated when I am trying to help a cat that is suffering. This is disgusting horrible evil behavior by your staff. I will never trust this company with any animal ever. There is no kindness. There is no compassion. There is zero level of care for anyone or their pet when there is an urgent need for help. And this is disheartening because I'm in the rescue community and I have done so much for so many animals and have brought business to this company and to be treated this way is sickening. Important Caution: This is not a full service ER as advertised. We brought our older dog here in an emergency, trusting she would receive the level of care her condition required. We would have done whatever it took to protect our girl and get her the help she needed. While some staff were kind and knowledgeable, this facility lacks advanced diagnostic tools like MRI and CT scan, and does not appear equipped with the full range of medications or specialty-level interventions that critical cases may require. When you present as an emergency care facility, most people would reasonably assume you have the tools and capabilities to fully diagnose and treat serious conditions. That was not our experience. What was not clearly communicated to us-- and what became devastatingly clear in real time--is that once your pet is admitted, especially if they require oxygen support, transferring them to a higher-level hospital may no longer be a realistic option. We were effectively left without the ability to pursue more advanced care when it mattered most. We lost our dog. In her final moments, we also had to request a more peaceful, humane setting for her, as it wasn't their standard procedure. No family should have to fight for that while saying goodbye. I am sharing this because I wish we had understood the limitations of this "Emergency" facility upfront. If your pet is in serious or rapidly declining condition, I would strongly consider going directly to a fully equipped specialty hospital with full diagnostic capabilities, access to specialists, and comprehensive treatment options. Do not tell a family their dog is at the end of their life without the tools to be certain, regardless of age, because they will always wonder if more could have been done. Even if the outcome had been the same, when you love a dog this much, a part of the process is the peace of mind that you have done everything possible to diagnose and treat their condition. read more

I would give 4.5 stars if that was an option, but i don't feel right only giving 4 stars, so 5 stars it is. Here's the skinny... Reason for visit: My aunt was in the hospital when her cat got sick with a urinary tract infection. While I was at her house to feed and scoop pans, I noticed he started circling the area multiple times trying to eliminate himself. I was very concerned he was blocked, and since our regular vet was closing in 30 minutes, I had no choice but to take him to the local ER. My whole family uses the same regular vet, and we have all used this ER at one time or another. I am very familiar with what I was walking into cost wise and how things may take a little longer than regular visits. I completely understand patients may arrive after me and may need immediate care putting them to the top of the list. I am also versed in animal medicine as I used to be a vet tech years ago. I am in no way suggesting I know more than the veterinarians. I am saying I knew it was important to get my aunt's cat in as soon as possible. Now onto the actual review. The staff are all extremely nice and professional. The facility is exceptionally clean. After each patient left, one of the girls would grab a swifter to dry mop and then follow up with a wet mop. The restroom was very clean. The whole interior of the building smelled very nice. They have small blankets to use while there since it is quite frigid. They offer complimentary water and coffee with sugar and creamer available if needed. A coke machine is in the lobby for paid sodas if you choose. They apparently are the go-to ER for police dogs. Many of the HPD K9s are pictures on the wall with lovely thank you cards to the vet who helped them. If you haven't caught on by now, I have these details seared in my brain because I was there a very long time. I checked in at 5:38 PM and finally left at 12:56 AM (leaving only once to go home to let my dog out and come back to wait). Yes! Almost 7.5 hours. I was pleased with the diagnosis and treatment plan. I was fine with the cost. I was frustrated with the communication, and I was very tired. I had come straight from work to my aunt's house to the ER. It was a long day, to say the least. My aunt was initially called by the front desk associate to add me as a responsible party for her cat. Kind of like HIPPA for cats. All was settled and we would get a treatment started. Before I left, I paid the $155.00 exam fee and was told an estimate would be emailed to me with a call from the vet afterward. I explained how important it was for me to be called since my aunt would most likely not be able to answer with nurses in and out of her room. All was understood by both ladies, and I was asked to write down my email address. I went on my way to tend to my dog. About 35 minutes later, my aunt called saying she and the vet spoke. He told her to send me up and by time I arrived, the cat would be ready. This was at 8:10 PM. From the point on, I had to approach the desk to ask for updates at least 5 times. I still wonder why the email wasn't sent. That would have given me a clue to understand what was going on sooner. I was willing to leave the cat there if needed. I just needed better communication. In conclusion, I feel badly for being so frustrated (and tired) and I completely respect the emergencies which came in while I was there (honestly breaks my heart!). I very much thank the staff for being so nice and I thank Dr. John Ellis for helping my aunt's cat. I encourage better communication not only with/for your clients, but also with/for your staff. They take a lot of the attitudes when people are frustrated. I could tell Evelyn (I think that was her name) at the front desk felt bad and the vet tech who went over my discharge instructions was absolutely the sweetest. I could tell she felt bad about the situation. To those taking the time to read this review. I would go back to this ER in a heartbeat if one of my kids needed emergency care. They were so loving and thoughtful when our pet was very sick and ultimately had to be euthanized. It was more than just a job for them, you could tell they care and hurt with you. Our experience with VERGI was extremely alarming and deeply disappointing. We brought our dog in after she was attacked, and while the staff initially responded quickly, the level of care she received afterward raised serious concerns about the clinic's communication, oversight, and medical standards. After emergency surgery, we were told she would need daily follow-ups for bandage changes and monitoring. However, each visit was marked by long wait times (often 5+ hours), inconsistent updates, aftercare instructions were minimal, and we rarely spoke with a vet directly. Most of the information we received came from front desk staff or technicians, making it difficult to understand her actual condition or treatment plan. We noticed a number of red flags during her care. For instance, medications were not administered on time or at all during her stays, despite specific dosing intervals, and we were never asked to provide her prescriptions or told if she had been given pain relief. When we asked at pickup whether she had been given any medication, a vet tech responded, "Probably not," which was deeply alarming. Aftercare instructions were vague, and no one ever explained what to watch for in terms of complications. Even as new issues emerged, such as possible infection or tissue damage, there was no adjustment in her treatment, and her vitals were rarely, if ever, checked. At one visit, we were told she had reopened a stitch, something that clearly should have been caught sooner, especially given the bleeding we had reported. As her condition worsened and her mobility declined due to restrictive and poorly applied bandaging, we made the decision to seek a second opinion elsewhere. The difference was immediate. She was seen right away, had her vitals taken, and was admitted overnight. They discovered a fever, high blood pressure, and a serious wound infection that had progressed into an abscess. She required a second surgery the very next day. It became clear that what VERGI had overlooked could have become life-threatening if we hadn't intervened. This experience was heartbreaking. We trusted VERGI to provide professional, attentive care during a critical time, instead, we were met with delays, unclear communication, and critical oversights. We are sharing this in hopes that no other pet or pet owner goes through what we did. I'm not writing this as the outcome of our visit ended up in the most positive way however let me elaborate on something every true pet owner and lover will ultimately have to face someday. Our 18 year old Pepper who was fine on Thursday, became critically ill and after attempting ( selfishly) to try to put off the inevitable we were faced with a really suffering pet on Saturday night!! Our vet closed, most vets closed, I called Vergi they were so sympathetic and helpful. I didn't want my dying pet to have to sit in a waiting room or wait to fill out paperwork!! Well we didn't have to. There genuine concern and ability to see our situation, immediately moving us into the proper setting and calling the vet in for immediate evaluation. Now I understand sometimes we all have to wait but be encouraged when u do because it probably means your pet is stable and of course needs attention just maybe not immediately. The Professional and humane treatment that was given to our Pepper( who was NEVER thier patient) deserves this review from us. Well deserved review from us and Pepper also!! read more

Short summary at end if you don't want to read the longer review. Took my 2 month old puppy in for diagnosis and treatment, mostly diagnosis. Was quoted $1600 and I had to pay upfront in full before they would perform any service on him. Was told to leave and they'd call in 3 to 4 hours with additional information and treatment options. They called and said they wanted to do exploratory surgery. Exploratory, not corrective and it would cost as much as $6000 and after surgery they wanted to keep him at their clinic at additional cost and it wasn't guaranteed that he would survive any of this. While they acknowledged he had an infection, they strangely did not administer antibiotics but instead, administered a narcotic painkiller. They said his prognosis was poor and strongly implied that he would die without the surgery. Talked it over with my husband and we decided we didn't want to spend more money on surgery, so he went to pick up the puppy. Sent me a text saying they were giving him a hard time about taking the puppy home and wanted him to sign a release form before they'd give him the puppy. They said if he took him home, he would decline and die. They offered to euthanize him (at additional cost) citing he was in so much pain he couldn't walk (he couldn't walk because he was heavily sedated). To me it sounded like it was more about the money. It was a stray puppy that I'd had less than 2 weeks and someone even commented to me that 2 weeks was a small time investment for that sort of money investment. So I don't get why they were guilting my husband into making him agree to the expensive surgery. People. The decision on what happens to my animal is ultimately mine, not yours. Edit/Update: I was disturbed that they sedated my dog yet did not treat him for the kidney and bladder inflammation they found on the ultrasound but recommended surgery instead of the obvious antibiotics. Also been thinking I should divulge the diagnosis as IMO (and my vet's) it was a misdiagnosis. They said my puppy had a hole in his bladder and it was leaking urine into his abdominal cavity and that's why they wanted to open him up to take a look with the surgery. I went to Vergi because my vet was closed that day. I was so upset over the dire news they were presenting to me that I texted the office manager of my vet's animal clinic telling her that my dog was deathly sick and we had been advised he should be put down. She said come in the following afternoon and they'd try to figure out what was going on. By that time, the sedative had mostly worn off and puppy was looking a Whole Lot Better. Still urinating blood but not as badly. My vet did bloodwork and had the paperwork from Vergi. Felt that puppy had a bladder infection and probably a kidney infection as well. Gave him antibiotics and steroids, wants me to return the next day (today) to see how well the antibiotics are working (something to do with antibiotics that are better or less optimal for growing puppies). Was in disbelief that Vergi did not treat him with antibiotics and steroids. Happy to report puppy is looking lightyears better. Will post another update after vet visit today. Update2: Vet says puppy is looking vastly improved today, a sign he's on the correct antibiotic and on the path to recovery. Brought my dog in for a possibly eating something toxic. Ended up having to keep her over night to make sure what she ate wasn't going to kill her. The estimate was a couple thousand for her specific case, but after everything was said and done they refunded me $700, which I felt they could have probably kept considering I'd agreed to pay it. Expensive. 3 stitches on a 1.5" laceration was over $1000 - no blood work or X-ray needed, just wound cleaning (for which they charged $65) and stitches. That's $700 more than a human Urgent Care for the same service. They are competent and do good work, but, again, cost seems disproportionate to the service provided. I brought my dog in for vomiting and pooping blood. She couldn't even stand. Vergi led me to believe she was seen by a veterinarian (which she wasn't) and told me she wasn't critical. I took her home and less than 24 hours later she was admitted to icu at another animal hospital and died. DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE. This was the ABSOLUTE WORST experience I've ever had with an emergency vet. They could have killed my dog. I went in on a Monday at 4:15p (with my 8 year old), and no one came in to speak to us until about 6:30 pm--and we weren't even able to leave until 9pm!!!! After explaining the entire situation and why we were there, the "vet" came in with a $4,000 estimate--even after I had explained that I wanted to simply have our dog checked before our vet opened the next morning (due to one episode of diarrhea) The recommendations were ridiculous and way beyond what my dog needed. They came down to about $700 in an estimate with at least 4-5 medications related to pain--which one is sufficient--and it turns out not only was I right--the one I finally agreed to almost killed her.... we ended up agreeing on seditation and fluids. The "vet" told me she could be "drowsy" and "seem tired" after this medication but that it would give her relief. They did not tell me she would not be able to walk for 3 days!!! She is 100 pounds and, as a small woman, not very easy to lift. Her mood drastically declined, I could not get her to eat or drink--or get up/out to even go potty. I brought her immediately the next morning to our home vet, and besides these symptoms, she was ok. My vet gave her probiotics and more fluids but wanted to watch her since there was no more diarrhea (it only happened once). This went on the rest of the day, and she finally got up on her own Wednesday evening. She's coming back--and seems as though not only did they overcharge for services (and a "vet" who was incredibly unknowledgeable and spoke to me in a condescending manner) but they also OVER MEDICATED AND we were there for FIVE HOURS for all this!! I can't even tell you how many times I said to someone, "I just want to take my dog now and go home--I have to feed my daughter and get her to bed--and they kept assuring me--"almost done". She should not have had that long of reaction to pain meds for diarrhea. I tried to resolve this with the vet manager through email, but never received a response--so here we are. People complain Gulf Coast is too expensive, but I would go there in a heartbeat over what I just went through. The positive I can share is the front desk staff were the nicest people. read more

I took my dog in at 6:45pm. He had an ear infection. I told them this and was fine with the $135 fee. He was taken back immediately. About 15 minutes later I was told it would be 2-4 hours for him to be treated and that I should go home. While at home I got the expected email with treatment plan for an additional $354. Was fine with that and docusigned for the treatment. This was now 8:30! Received a call and was told 1-2 hours for his treatment. After 2 hours went back. Sat another 90 minutes. At midnight was told another 4-6 hours. We agreed to not move forward. Waited another hour just to get my dog and go home. No treatments. Correction - at checkout they refunded my $135 So at least there is that. read more

I have been going to Vergi for 20 years but NEVER AGAIN! My dog had a growth/mass that broke through the skin so we took him to have the wound cleaned and get antibiotics to prevent an infection. They kept him 9 HOURS to give him a shot and clean and wrap the wound. He had no food or liquids all afternoon or evening. We got home at 1:00 am Sunday. Overnight it bled a lot and he looked weak so we took him back Sunday afternoon .They kept him another 6 hours to rewrap the wound and sent him off again. He is so weak he can't stand, won't eat or drink and can barely lift his eyes open. I called and asked why he wasn't given fluids for dehydration and the tech flippantly told me my husband did not approve the heart scans and blood tests, so no fluids. We have a regular vet that all my dogs visit regularly - and we were told Saturday evening that's fine - to just have tests run there. Yes my dog is 14 and has some issues, but he was eating and drinking just fine Saturday before we took him in. Now he's lethargic and probably dying. read more

We brought oirdog whose leg was broken here and they did not do a good job putting on a cast we thought but it was just a cheap splint w tape. They charged 950 which is outrageous but we had to get the dog healed. Less than 24 hours the splint came off. We went back to this place and the staff is less than friendly did not apologize for us having to come back and then charged another 80 dollars for materials. Amazing group of emergency vets! They took care of my Sundance Kitty. They diagnosed his illness that no other vet had been able to do. They treated Sundance and Leo & I with lots of kindness and made his last day very comfortable to say our final goodbyes. They are very good veterinarians! We highly recommend them for emergencies and undiagnosed illnesses. They are awesome!!! They truly are angels for your ill animals. I would never take my dog here again. I have extensive years in the medical field with knowledge regarding various conditions, diagnostics, and medications. The vet's lack of medical knowledge with how to properly treat my dog was very disturbing. I am not saying that all the veterinarians here are bad, but the one I encountered was the worst veterinarian I have ever encountered. Also, I found the veterinarian assistant to be pushy regarding diagnostic tests and treatment that I knew my dog did not need. I felt like this facility was just trying to order a bunch of unnecessary tests and treatments to make money. I find this unethical. I gave a 2 star rating due to the wait time being shorter than the average wait time in comparison to other ER's. Also, the front desk staff and tech were pleasant. read more

We have previously taken two very sickly kittens here where we have had to put them down which I don't necessarily blame for that but tonight was awful. I also read a review saying they wanted to unnecessary charge them which I think was their initial goal when we got there. We eventually coughed up 345$ but that was after they wanted us to pay over 400$ just to get her fever down (this was after an estimate of $1500). They kept trying to give her an anti nausea medication when we told them multiple times she already had it at the place we got her fixed today. We had to have said it to at least 4 different people. Techs were rude beforehand. Front desk was very nice, needless to say. Doctor was nice too but he never once came back even after a tech said he was going to. Absolutely no updates without having to beg more than 2 times. We also waited a very long time after they took out cat. Towards the end we had to wait and BEG and I mean absolutely beg for them to take her temperature again. They told us that we would have to wait because more people were piling in. So pretty much no communication to anyone who knew anything. Doctor never once returned and the techs kept saying I don't know. A bit ridiculous if you ask me. They ended up giving us loads of medication. So we wait even longer at this point it had been 3-4 hours of wait time in general. Thank god her fever has gone down and she's alright but I was already having a day and this was just absolutely a nightmare of an experience. I don't know what to believe with this place. Update: I believe Vergi sees people in distress and take advantage of it. I am still sick to my stomach them trying to charge us 1500$ when it was not needed. Thankfully, our vet we know and trust was open today and we took her in to get her checked out and see how her fever is. She's been fine today but we wanted to see if there was anything wrong with her chest and lungs. Doctor examined her and thankfully good news. I had to put my dog down today. And the staff there made me feel as if I wasn't alone. They were compassionate and kind in the worst of circumstances and I couldn't be more grateful than to have taken my pal there to say my final goodbyes. Although the pain that I feel today may never leave me. The warmth of the staff that I felt today as well, will never leave me. Thank you ladies for having a heart. I strongly believe actions of this practice initiated the downward spiralling and the passing of my dog. Vergi is overworked and understaffed. If you love them like family, I firmly recommend you to bring your pet elsewhere. There are multiple after-hours vets within a 20-minute drive. Writing this is so tough, please don't let this happen to yourself and your loved one. *********************** After being seen initially at 11AM by Dr. Miller, she started working on our 5-year-old Australian shepherd Chief at around 8PM - roughly 9 hours of wait time. We were finally able to bring our dog home at 11:30pm - at which point Dr. Miller had worked at least a 12-hour shift. Just to put things into perspective, and provide some sympathy for the overworked physician, in Texas it is illegal for truck drivers to operate longer than 11 hours consecutively. What level of care can you reasonably expect from any physician, regardless of education or experience or quantity of espressos consumed, that has been under such a stressful workload for so long? With regards to the rest of the experience, Chief was at this practice for more than 12 hours over the course of which we were only able to get a hold of the Dr. once, despite calling multiple times and spending more than 30 minutes on hold each time. Nevertheless, the lack of procedure and severe understaffing for the number of patients they are willing to admit (aka greed), is less important to me than the substandard quality of care provided. I took Chief in for a urinary issue, as he was otherwise a happy dog. At the time I expressed this was due to obstructions in his urinary tract, as this has happened before (it was later confirmed that Chief did have urinary stones causing his obstruction). Ignoring my insistence to relieve his bladder with a catheter, Chief was drained of more than 4L of unrelated abdominal fluids. This fluid build-up was most likely liver related; he has carried it for almost as long as I known him without change and definitely not an immediate danger to his life - but absolutely more lucrative for the practice than a simple catheter. This drainage not only did not relieve Chief of the life-threatening obstruction within his urinary system, but the large amount of fluid removed added further stress to his body. He was not prescribed any antibiotics or medication upon discharge, looked miserable, and literally had fluid leaking from the hole where they removed his ascites. Dr Miller suggested that we investigate possible heartworm, despite Chief's medical records showing that he was on heartworm prevention and had a negative test as well as preventative de-worming less than a year ago. I will leave the rest of the story out as it is still raw, but despite best efforts of my regular vet and another emergency clinic, and more time and resources spent, Chief's condition deteriorated and we decided to have him euthanized after what looked like an autoimmune disorder with various triggers including infection. It is still hard to fathom how he was a happy dog less than a week ago. I miss him. read more

Came here with my 16 year old silky terrier dog that was bit by a large dog. I was super worried because it was close to his eye and he had just had surgery a couple months prior. They cleaned him up had to sedate and stitch him up. The bite was right by his eye all the way down to his mouth (basically the whole side of his face) and now almost 3 weeks later you can barely tell. He is all healed up and the eye Dr said there was no trauma to the eye. I can't thank the staff enough for everything they did and everyone I encountered was super nice! read more

My baby was having really bad stomach issues. We took her to Vergi and as a prior experience with another furbaby, I want to thank all the staff for treating her and us with so much care, concern and patience. She is MUCH better. For the front desk staff, the techs and the doctors - thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Shout outs to Dr. Wallis, Dr. Trujillo, Dr. Flowers and Miss Dee (who just wanted to carry my girl around).
