Bait‑and‑Switch -- Final Cost Was Over 3× the Quote If you're considering this company, Google "Verity Van Line Complaints." I wish I had. My written estimate was $2,392. After a date change and storage, it jumped to $3,956. Then, while they had my furniture, they demanded another $3,529.81 or they wouldn't release it. Final cost: $7,529.81 -- more than THREE TIMES the original quote. This was a blatant bait‑and‑switch and a hostage move. (I'd also like to note that if my salesperson had been honest and forthright and given me a total of over $7,000, instead of telling me to just give them a check for $4,000, two days prior to my move, I would have canceled them as I had another mover on hold just in case. The crews were unprofessional and aggressive. Antiques were shoved into boxes, no FRAGILE stickers, furniture wasn't wrapped, bedding was not in a sanitary bag, everything smelled like cigarettes, and they even tried to give me two TVs that weren't mine. ( There is no inventory list. They just put stickers on everything after the fact .) My garage was ransacked and my late father's fishing gear disappeared. I paid $400 for insurance that they never provided and was charged for unpacking which they didn't do. I now have over $5,000 in damages in my furniture. Michael Mafucci is dismissive and condescending towards me. His "solution" was to send "his guy who knows how to fix things" over and offer me $1,000. Here's the part that really stands out: Men who file complaints seem to get results. As a senior woman, I was dismissed and placated. (A complaint I filed with the BBB has still not been addressed, while complaints filed by men are addressed and treated with a sense of urgency)* There are honest Moving Companies out there. This is not one of them. *UPDATE: The Complaint was answered by an unidentified person who is now claiming my job was two separate moves! We had numerous communications from the Verity team and Rob Johnson's estimate was spot-on. The three-man moving crew that was assigned to our move (Chris, Timmy and Joe) were hardworking, friendly and careful. They took the time to ensure that everything was properly packed and positioned in the truck so there was no damage to our furniture, glassware and electronics for the 200+ mile journey. We are VERY pleased with the service that Verity Van Lines provided us in our move from Long Island NY back to New Hampshire. Robert Johson was referred to us by our friends who recently moved down to Florida, and Rob was great. We scheduled an appointment at the house so he could see all of "our stuff" that we needed moved. He was very detailed in his walk around the house. We already started the packing and he used his tablet to account for the boxes, the beds, the office desks, the furniture, and everything. He put together a quote and printed out a quote right there in our kitchen. We asked the mover up in New Hampshire for a quote as well. The Verity quote was similar but it was Rob who made us feel great about this move! We had a change in the Dates, and Rob handled this with the greatest of ease. We checked in a few days before the move and Rob explained that the office would confirm the exact time, the day before. Sure enough, they called as promised the day before. @ 9:15 am here comes the Verity Truck. Sammy was the driver and captain of this team. He had 3 others with him. They packed the truck with great precision and care. They took the time to wrap all the furnture and bureaus in padding, the mattresses were put into "bags," and the glass, the mirrors, and valuables were bubble wrapped as well as beng padded. They were on point and took great care of each item. We stayed out of the way as they loaded up. Sammy had us sign off on what they loaded and confirmed the plan for tomorrows unloading in New Hampshire. They pulled out @ 1:15pm right before it downpoured! The next day the same crew pulled up just as planned. It took a little more time to unload as they were equally careful coming into the new home and now things needed to be assembled etc. Plus, the plan we had for certain things didn't fit in that room or up the stairs. They were so awesome in theses changes. I'd say by 2:15pm we were signing off on the move. In our whole home move, THIS was by far the easiest part. The Verity Van Lines team from Rob, Sammy, and the office staff made this move go just as planned. They worked with our schedule and time frame. They did exactly what they said they would do. They met every expecation and communication was great every step of the way. As Verity was referred to me... I am more than happy to refer Verity Van Lines to everyone moving out of New York. Update-7.31.2025-The owner Michael was true to his word and honored his promise to make adjustments. We sicnerely appreciate his efforst! Original-Terrible personal experience. I have moved six times and all went well with the other major companies. Not the case with Verity! We contratced with them for a move to Florida. We used three of their services; junk removal, packing and moving. Junk removal no showed three times and finally arrived hours late, the packers made a mess out of all the boxes and the movers ran out of the house on delivery (dispite $100 tips on pickup) so fast they left their runners and ramp. Even after I called them to come back they still didn't unpack everything as evidenced by the fact that we are not only missing items, but we still have the rugs they wrapped around TVs and mirrors they packed but we had to unpack. Worse was the fact that Sal the salesman told us how he has been doing this all his adult life so we assumed his estimate would be accurate. BUT even though we packed 30 boxes ourselves and shipped LESS items than the estimate, the bill was, 16%/ $1,000 more. No one ever called to see how the move went. We called the owner who was very nice and has offered to make it right. I will update this after we see how he does that. read more

He came over and gave us a very reasonable estimate, worked within our time frame and made it happen in under two weeks! Paul revisited us the day before the move to asses things and showed up promptly the next day with his team, Gorilla and Andrew and they were just as awesome! The move went with out a hitch in 98 Degree heat and it was extremely seamless. The team did some extras at no additional charge and more importantly..., nothing was broken! Lesson number one...never move to Maine in the winter!!! Thankfully, we had Verity Van Lines to move us. It was a very stressful move and Verity helped keep the stress level low. Extremely professional from the first call to moving us in. The final amount was actually less then the price quoted. Dennis and Raffie were gentlemen even when the van couldn't make it up the driveway due to the snow. They had to move the furniture further than expected. They really worked hard and were very respectful of our furniture and our new house. I would recommend Verity Van Lines and I would use them again and again. The worse experience unfortunately. When the salesman comes for the estimate you get a feeling all would be taken care of professionally. Not the case. The movers were sloppy and broke things. I feel it is my duty to post this. Verity Van Lines had a job on my block recently and when they turned their truck on to my block and made a wide turn they tore down my phone and cable lines which were attached to my house causing over $500 worth of damage. I fully understand that it was an accident and if their actions showed any remorse and wanting to do the right thing and take care of it I would not be writing this review. I was treated with total disrespect and physically threatened by the driver. I had to call the police document what had happened. After reaching out to there office to get reimbursed for the damages. Jen B in their office was no help an refused to pay for the damages. I look forward to my day in court. You have a choice when hiring someone to move and you are much better off rewarding a company that deserves your business! read more

I had the Verity Van Lines give me an estimate for moving me across the country. Sal met my wife and with his years of experience (his words, not mine) he determined that the furniture and boxes we have to move weighted 10,000 pounds. I thought this was EXTREMELY high to yesterday I painstakingly weight each and every box and tub I had packed. I also weighted the furniture I could lift and guessed the weight of the couch, dining room table and buffet. We also have a few other smaill items (2 TV's, Mirror, several pictures, computer table etc:) and came up with a gross weight of a little over 5,300 pounds. I still have about 10 move boxes to pack up but I severely doubt they will weight 4,700 pounds. I guess because it was my wife he met he could just pull this absurd figure out of the air and try to charge me $5,000 too much. On top of that he only accepts cash or bank check - I guess other people realized his bad business practices after the move and stopped payment to him on credit card. Amazing crew. 1st and most important, we interviewed several companies who said they would pack a truck, then move everything to a bigger truck and then move it again to a smaller truck to deliver - moving our furniture 3 times - which is INSANE. Verity said from the start they move our furniture once into a truck and 2nd into our new home, so they were the way to go. They were just amazing; it is probably one of the most stressful things in your life to do, moving 1000's of miles and they made it almost stress-free; the price was within $20. from initial estimate, truck was on-time, movers were professional, everything is counted and recorded, they called when they were a day away, everything was there and nothing (except for 2 glasses we packed) was broken. Everything went very smoothly from getting an estimate, selecting the moving date we wanted and most importantly the move itself. The staff we worked with were responsive and professional. It is with great pleasure that I write this review for Verity Van Lines. Throughout our move, my husband and I frequently commented on how impressed we were with our moving team. The first person we met was Robert who came to give an estimate. We were impressed with the accuracy of the on-site estimate, the ease of getting a printout, and the fact that he came back two days before the move to confirm that the estimate was still accurate. Early on the morning of January 17, 2014 we met Dennis, Kyle, and Joey. They arrived on time and got right to work. Joey immediately started loading our boxes while Dennis and Kyle began to wrap up our furniture. We couldn't believe how quickly they got everything loaded into the truck, we had envisioned it taking hours longer than it actually did. The team was courteous, hardworking, and very personable. Once at our new house, the moving team went above and beyond. Again, they unloaded the truck more quickly than we had anticipated. The team followed all of our instructions regarding where things should go. They helped rearrange our furniture several times until I was satisfied with the placement of everything. They even helped install felt pads I had gotten for the feet of our couch to avoid scratching our hard wood floors. I had been very anxious about our move beforehand, but Dennis, Kyle, and Joey made the experience easy and enjoyable. As we have told many people since our move, Verity Van Lines was definitely worth every penny. read more

5 words says it all...DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY !! They made big promises, charged me a lot of money, and made my move so stressful it was a nightmare. They sent a small truck to move a 6 bedroom house. I expected 4 guys - they sent three and one was old an feeble. WHen the crew did the walk through they moaned and groaned and gave me the impression they wouldn't be able to do the job in one day. They broke the first piece of furniture they carried down the stairs and then yelled at me for being mad about it because it was old anyway ( it was an antique dresser from England). I ended up in a screaming match - nose to nose - with the leader of the crew within the first hour. There was no on site supervisor. I couldn't get anyone from the company on the phone. When I finally did connect with Rob the guy who gave me the estimate and drew up the contracts he said he couldn't get to my job for hours to see what was going on. He refused to give me a different crew. I held the phone out for him to listen to the leader of the crew who was still yelling at me. Rob says " Oh thats how he always talks to people" We had to get this move done so my daughters and I struggled through this move trying hard to put up with this crew. In the end they did get the job done but it was a stressful, awful, emotional day and it didn't have to be that bad. The company offered me absolutely no support, no help, no communication, no assistance. Once they had signed contracts we were written off . I really must repeat this DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY !!! I gave this 1 star because I'm unable to give 0 stars. They lost an entire box of my property during my move and storage. When I contacted them I got the runaround at first and ultimately a claim denial due to the fact the inventory was signed off on when it was dropped off. How are you supposed to know an entire box is missing upon delivery? To make matters worse multiple pieces of furniture were broken. I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy. read more

I was given Verity by another mover after he cancelled and it was the best thing that could have happened. Mike called me and the next day Rob came to my house. He was professional, and very reassuring that they would take care of me. I contracted with them and since I lived in an apartment building there were some logistics to work out, which he did. On the day of the move Frank and his 2 sons came and they were great! They packed me up and took my things away without a hitch. Unfortunately NY was hit with a blizzard but I still received my things in Florida 1 week later. Nothing was damaged or missing. Frank was here from NY along with his Florida crew. I also had some items going to my Moms down the road..no problem. Fast, efficient, pleasant and reliable. I highly recommend them and would use them again without a second thought. My son used them and was moved in 3 days. No problem. We used them 3 months later to same location and they took 12 & 1/2 days. That means we had no beds or chairs. It was near Thanksgiving and they knew they would be slow and it would take longer but did not even give me a heads up that this might happen. For my son they said 3 to 5 days, for me it was 5 to 7, after I signed it was 7 to 10 then 2 more days for the holiday. I even complained to the president who wanted to rent me a bed for 1 night. They are out for themselves, not the customer. The movers themselves were great people and highly efficient but of course they will side with the boss. Someone else just moved them near New Years and it took 8 days. read more

They are liars and the worst movers I have ever dealt with. Their claims are ignored and meaningless. They completely destroyed and broke most of my furniture. In moving my storage (which was in their care) they tossed all of my boxes and broke most everything in them My bedroom furniture was so broken it needed to be thrown out. When it got to Florida from Long Island I tried to have it fixed. It was not fixable. I took pictures of it and Emailed them to Candice who claims to take care of claims. She never called me back. I called the owner who told me because I threw the furniture out it was a problem. I explained to him the company I sent it to could no longer hold onto it and would charge me unless I had it picked up. It made no sense to pay someone to transport it to my home because it was not usable. The rest of my belongs their movers literally were thrown into the storage unit in Florida. Everything was opened and just thrown everywhere. They even left several of their blue moving pads. DO NOT USE THEM. THEY ARE NOT TRUSTWORTHY. TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL. BEWARE! This is a very high end moving company and they talk a good line. I had total faith that they would be able to handle the move of my Italian lacquer furniture. They make a lot of promises--and they do keep them. They were on time and the crew was pleasant. The problem, the crew was not competent. They moved my lacquer furniture without protecting it with blankets. When I mentioned it to the crew, they said everything would be fine--not to worry. Needless to say, they scratched the furniture and scratched the newly refinished floors. I waited 3 weeks to be sure the floors were completely cured but they still scratched them. I was totally shocked to find clear packing tape residue on the furniture as well. I called management and they told me in order to help me I needed to file a claim. They really were totally uncaring and sympathetic to the situation. Claim forms were not going to help the situation. My floor re-finisher came to see the scratches and told me that trying to fix the areas would make it worse. So I got stuck with a big bill, scratched floors and scratched furniture. Why don't they let you post photos on this site! I'd love to share the photos of the damages and the clear tape residue. Beware! read more

We moved from NEW YORK to N. CAROLINA in OCT. 2016 with Frank and his guys and what seemed to start off good ended in a very BAD experience! While they loaded us in NY we gave the helpers furniture, laptop, tools and ladders, new windows and other items we thought we might not have room for in the new home. We had over 100 boxes plus furniture. This crew took 2 days to load us up and then make there way down to NC but they had to make a pickup and a drop in Maryland before they came to NC. They showed up and put furniture in the home and over 125 boxes in the 3 car garage piled high and in about 7 hours were done Frank said sign here and here pay the balance over 11,000.00 I said I didn't count the boxes and they said don't worry any problems you purchased insurance just call the office. After like 2 weeks we noticed large mirrors from Fortunoff were gone as well as power tools and vases and collectibles were broken! I called SAL the salesman and left messages but no response, so people beware we got taken for a ride and after you give them the certified check you have no recourse! read more

We used Verity to move across states, while the price was slightly higher than some of the other state-wide movers, my parents had used them to move their house on LI locally with alot of expensive antique and custom made furniture. We felt it was worth the extra to have our antiques moved properly. We moved into a 3 story townhouse, which I believe I had told the estimator, however, upon arrival to the new home, the crew complained about the flights of stairs (which, honestly were pretty miserable), and we ended up having to pay an extra $400. They did a great job - protected the interior wood paneling in the apartment, and our furniture. However, the crew complained alot, which I realize is probably a strategy to get a bigger tip but totally unecessary - it is their job! We also had a snafu on our end on the pick up side, which Verity rectified quickly. So we appreciated their flexibility and the move was great. The only big complaint I have is with contacting them in advance of the move, they don't seem to have any voicemails which drove me crazy, so if they want to continue in their business they probably should be more available and customer friendly, but they did do a good job and I can't complain about that. read more

BEWARE!!! I moved over the summer and needed to place my furniture/ belongings in storage for a month. When the movers were finished delivering everything to my new home I was very quickly given papers to sign and not really explained what I was initialing. They told me to look around and make sure things were in the right place. Upon inspection it was noted that the bed was put together backwards and a few little odds and ends, which they corrected. Upon hours of their leaving, it was discovered that on my 59 inch plasma tv (which was conveniently placed with the screen facing the wall) the screen was all cracked, a dent was present on the frame and the plug was crushed. I called right up and was told that they were leaving for a the day and that someone would call me back tomorrow. Well I never received a call and had to call myself the next day. When I explained the situation I was offered no apology and was actually given the answer of "well how do we know that you didn't do the damage". Well I really wish we can post pictures here because I would have needed a sledgehammer to do that kind of damage. It was very clear that this tv was either not packed properly (and I paid to have it boxed properly), dropped, or something was dropped on it. I sent in a claim, emailed pictures and got a response back that I initialed and signed papers saying that all items were in fine condition so they weren't taking any responsibility. How can a moving company expect their customers to inspect every inch of every item delivered, and check every box to make sure that everything was ok. That would take longer than the move itself. Unpacking a house takes days if not weeks. They took no responsibility and I never received an apology, just a cold letter informing me that they are taking no responsibility. I would not trust this company. I am not naïve in expecting every item to come back perfectly in a large move, but I do expect a moving company to own up to their mistakes and at the very least apologize. I couldn't in good conscience recommend them to anyone. read more
