Cons: this hotel is marketed as walking distance to the Ben and Jerry's Factory. While it is true they are half of a mile down the same road, THIS IS NOT WALKABLE! It is all highway with no shoulder and a blind curve. it is also uphill the entire way in case you decide you are not afraid of lots of fast cars and want to brave the walk. I really wish the hotel would offer a shuttle. THERE IS NO UBER IN WATERBURY. There are local "taxi" services (private car services, really) who will give you a ride to B&J for $35. Also of note: the breakfast included Vermont maple syrup, but there were no pancakes or waffles to put it on. I ended up putting it on the severely overcooked bacon to try to soften it up and to be able to experience the local syrup. Additionally, the hot tub jets were not working. It was still a nice soak and was clean and not overly chlorinated, but jets would have been nice. Other than those three complaints, our stay really was great. The rooms were larger than expected, and everyone who worked there was just fantastic.

Our room: basic, but the bed and the bedding was clean and super comfortable. We slept quite comfortably, and the blackout curtains helped keep just enough light out. We often will use the bathroom light as our night light, and the bathroom was positioned in just a way that we didn't have light glaring at us as we slept. Noise didn't come easily through the door, so we weren't disturbed either by other guests in the hallway. Toiletries are standard and basic, but smelled lovely. Service: the infused water (they change fruits! Super fun and delicious) was a lovely touch, and the afternoon cookies were a wonderful surprise. And the breakfast had good variety of prepared and fresh items, so lots of choices for everyone! The staff were all also really friendly. The only negative was that our room smelled humid. Granted Vermont has had its share of rain this year, so we figured it was because of all the rain. There was also a patch in our bathroom that needed paint (it had been muddled, but not yet sanded or painted). These were the only negatives I could express about our stay.

Greg showed us around the property, the lobby shop, brought us to our room and explained all the unique and exciting details of the house and property. We woke up each morning to a beautifully prepared breakfast. Since our trip was so last minute, we didn't have much of a plan. Greg was kind enough to sit down with us and help us map out our entire journey. He even helped us map an alternate route home that was more scenic. We didn't get to everything on the list, but everything he mentioned was perfect. You can tell he has a genuine love and passion for what he does. A year ago I found it at Grünberg Haus, and I've been coming back again this summer--and it was the best tripe yet by far! Duane is the kind of host you don't forget. He seems to know what you need before you do, and you can feel how much he genuinely cares about everyone who walks through the door. I was traveling solo to meet up with friends and got there before anyone else arrived. Duane met me right in the parking lot, helped me get settled. Little touches like that set the tone for the whole stay. I stayed in the Inn and it was perfect. The bed was incredibly comfortable, everything was spotless, and the decor is full of personality and details you will never get tired of discovering. Mostly, though, it was just relaxing. I spent a lot of time just hanging out doing nothing but listening to the woods around me. As a lifelong New Yorker, it was the exact opposite of my daily life, and exactly what I needed. Breakfast is where Duane really shines. He is the heart and soul of Grünberg Haus and a true culinary genius. Every morning he cooked something different and every single one was a winner: egg, ham, and cheese; pancakes and eggs; breakfast tacos. And that yogurt and berry parfait... I'm still dreaming about it. The inn itself is gorgeous, decked out with great pop culture posters and all kinds of fun finds. My friends and I spent evenings hanging out in the cozy living room with a few drinks, and it was a blast. Duane also recently put in a new wifi system that boosted the internet across the entire property, so staying connected was never an issue, even out in the cabin. In the gathering room of the Inn, he's got an incredible selection of records! And if you want to watch anything, the projector is great. The location can't be beat. I was a bit disappointed the first morning when I saw a continental breakfast laid out. It looked good though with fantastic granola, fruit, smoothies, and juice. But when I sat down, a full, made-to-order breakfast was also offered. The only mistake I made was in not taking a picture of the huge waffle covered with sliced strawberries and whipped cream. I think the morning manager Allie was responsible for the menu. But this isn't all. We chatted with the other managers and got suggestions about where to eat dinner and what to do. And there was more to do right at the inn. A bar is open every night if there are customers. A fellow living in the neighborhood stopped at the bar one night, and we got even more information from him. There's plenty of parking. Dozens of restaurants and shops are within a block or two, so if you are too tired to drive somewhere, such as Stowe, there are a number of good choices for dinner with a short walk. The room and the parlor/lobby make you feel it's the 19th century. A jigsaw puzzle was on the coffee table and being slowly put together by guests. Kids were playing with the many toys and games there too. And all the other guests seemed to appreciate the Old Stagecoach Inn as much as we did, giving it a community feel. The only cautions are there is no elevator in part of the inn and there was no TV in our large room. However, since we felt we were in a 19th century, Victorian house, a TV would have been out of place. They said they may add a TV, but like us, they were worried that it would look odd with all the antiques. And yes the main building dates to 1820 and a stagecoach inn, but it was later turned into a mansion and even late extra rooms were added. When we toured the Shelburne Museum, a docent at the Vermont inn building said he had helped convert the house to an inn years ago and remembered the beautiful woodwork in some of the rooms.

I understand small businesses rely on reservations, but the response from management felt unnecessarilyj rigid and dismissive, especially compared to the empathy shown by other small, family owned Vermont inns. Given how the situation was handled, I would not stay here or recommend it to others. P.S. We don't think extreme weather is "foreseeable" since we had been checking the weather up to a week prior.

There is also tea, coffee and evening port available as well! We stayed in the River Room... which had a very comfy bed, a beautiful bathroom with bathtub and shower. in the bathroom there was bubble bath soap, lotions, organic hand wash, a blow drier, shampoo, conditioner and body wash. The bathtub even had a tray you can use to read your book while relaxing. The breakfast was amazing. Everything was fresh and delicious and perfect-size portions. I had the best piece of toast I've ever had. I didn't think toast coult be so delicious...! Outside the window there were bird feeders that attracted all kinds of birds and even chipmunks. Across the street is a Mad River trail along the river which is quite scenic. All and all, we had great time and enjoyed the stay. I would recommend this place to anyone!

The common areas were very comfortable, and we felt welcome to use them. Sometimes at B&B's you feel like you're in someone's living room, but this felt like usable guest space. We enjoyed the tea from Vermont Liberty Tea Co., and were especially excited to arrive back at the B&B late one evening to a platter of brownies in the dining room! (Linda was kind enough to share the recipe, though after seeing how much butter was called for - no wonder they were so good!! - I never attempted baking them myself). Coffee on the large porch in the morning overlooking fields and a large lawn dotted with adirondack chairs provided a welcome escape from city life. Luke and Linda were very friendly and fun, eager to offer recommendations but also not intrusive. Breakfast was delicious, and Linda was patient with my friend's several special requests. Outstanding inn in Stowe, VT. So very glad we stayed here. Our room was very spacious and…read morecomfortable. The bed was ultra comfortable; pillows were awesome. The staff was warm and friendly. I only have one criticism. While the A/C was working, we had difficulty regulating it to feel comfortable. It was rather cold and clammy at night, but by morning, we felt fine. It wasn't so much the cold part that bothered me, but the clammy part was what got to me. Everyone kept saying how unseasonably hot and humid it was for Stowe, so who knows... maybe the A/C just had difficulty regulating itself... or we didn't know how to use it properly. It wasn't bad, per se, but it was a little uncomfortable some of the time. The room overall, though, was really great. Also, we loved that they had Netflix and Amazon Prime, so we could settle into the shows we were missing while traveling. That was a nice surprise ! Most hotels don't offer any of that. We had planned to dine out at one of the local restaurants, but we found out they were serving dinner at Grant's, the inn's restaurant. We were tired after traveling around all day, so we stayed at the inn and ate a great meal at Grant's. (See separate review for that.) Also, the common areas in the main building next to the restaurant are very tastefully appointed, spacious, with lots of games, books and sitting areas for people to utilize. We walked around them to see what there was but returned to our room to relax and watch some of our shows. My only regret was that we couldn't stay longer. One night in Stowe just isn't enough, especially at the Stowe Village Inn. Let's hope there will be a next time !
