I've purchased multiple pieces from Versani over the years and was always happy with the designs. Unfortunately, the clasp on one bracelet I bought about a year ago has been problematic and almost caused me to lose it multiple times. I already came in once before to have it repaired, but the issue was never properly fixed and the bracelet continued to unclasp on its own. Today I returned again because I was frustrated about having to repeatedly come back for the same issue on a piece of jewelry I already paid good money for. Instead of handling the situation professionally, one of the employees asked if I was drunk simply because I expressed frustration while speaking with his colleague. That was shocking and very disrespectful, especially from a store presenting itself as luxury. The jewelry is beautiful, but after this experience I no longer feel comfortable returning. read more

This is one of the best jewelry stores in New York. Initially started in a Soho Loft over 20 years ago, Ara and his team have been designing super cool pieces which any local and visitor alike should check out. Having bought about seven different pieces for myself beginning in 1993, I returned to Soho last weekend to discover Ara, its founder, minding his Flagship, as interested in his customers as he was 20 years ago when I first met him. My sterling pieces, which ranged from bracelets to necklaces had tarnished a bit over the years but have held up well after regular use (all clasps and adornments were intact). Ara happily took them all and returned them a few days later, polished up and shining like the day I bought them. I am traveling overseas soon and plan on getting a few special pieces for my relatives as I cannot imagine a better gift than a unique design from Versani, especially when they stand by their products the way I have experienced. I stepped into this shop a few years ago while visiting NYC from CA and bought a black diamond infinity ring and a silver bracelet for my mother. We enjoyed both pieces so much and the customer service was excellent! My apartment was robbed about a year ago and they took my ring. I contacted versani and I was able to purchase a new one from them. It was a bit smaller than the last, though, so I finally got around to contacting them again and I just received a brand new one this past week! I can't stress enough what a great company this is. Their communication is excellent and they go above and beyond to coordinate any needs you might have. The staff are extremely helpful and great at what they do! I bought some earrings from them and have been happy with them ever since I constantly go back to view there stuff because I love it! The prices are very high however and could come down by a lot more but I do understand it's New York City, so ho and the rents are high so covering your over head definitely comes first! Also I took my earrings in for a cleaning and they didn't seem to be cleaned well or if at all! It felt like the whole week they where there someone was wearing them! When I got them back then smelled and looked dirty! I do a better job cleaning them at home under the sink! I'm going to go back here tomorrow and buy a pinky ring so that I can be more baller than 2009 Joba Chamberlain. My buddy and I decided to stop in here as a joke, because there were signs everywhere of guys in gaudy jewelry that look like they wear Ed Hardy shirts to clubs. I was dressed in a stylish $6 shirt and some fly on sale American Eagle shorts and leg hair, so I knew they'd want to cater to my every need. When I walked in the lady came up and asked me if I wanted help right away. She ignored my friend next to me, implying she could sense the machismo emanating from my $.99 ebay necklace. She opened the case and started having me try on the bracelets. They were pure silver, and heavy, and while most men's jewelry isn't that fancy, these were fancier for men's jewelry. I pretended that there was some chance I was going to buy a super expensive bracelet, which of course there wasn't, and since they had no price tag I was pretty sure the price was going to be hilarious. My plan was to do one of those "that's it?" looks when she told me how much it was, then try on the most expensive thing there, and then decide I didn't like it and go. But when she told me the prices, it wasn't actually that expensive - at least for jewelry. It was still about 200 to 600 bucks, so it wasn't pocket money, but these bracelets were pure silver, and silver is expensive. Still, I started to head out the door and then saw their sales case. I checked out the rings, and there was this pinky ring there that looked cool and was 50% off. I've never worn a pinky ring before, but it ended up being comfortable and nice quality. So hey... good on you Versani. Not terrible prices and stuff I actually like. I had to head out, but I'll be headed back. I have always been a big Versani fan, as far as getting a lot of pieces there, etc. However, the recent issues my husband has had with jewelry repair (on a bracelet purchased there) leave something to be desired. First, we had very explicit instructions on sizing. We get the first repair home, and realize, a sterling silver bead had been removed, which is more expensive than the other beads. We were never informed a bead was removed, and we did not get the bead with the bracelet. Okay, the husband goes back, gets the bead situation straightened out, and explicitly describes how he wants the beads placed. We find out more beads were removed which we were not told about. Great. The beads were NOT placed that way, and a manager decided to change his bracelet to her needs and specifications, which were wrong, and ugly! We get the bracelet back and its so clearly wrong, we send it back, and its adjusted. It took 3 tries, and many trips, and hours of our time. They have great original pieces, but we will never use them for jewelry repair again! And I would recommend that you don't either! Ridiculous... read more

I had bought a really nice pair of earrings for my girlfriend back in August. They were black diamonds with silver backing. After a few months, I noticed that they looked like someone took a hammer to them, then let their pit bull chew on them for awhile, finally using the blender to grind them up on the frappe setting. Knowing that the girlfriend wasn't one to punish her jewelry, I took them back to the store. The woman at the store was very attentive and saw the major flaws in the stones. In the end, she said that they were unable to fix it or exchange it for identical stones. "Perfect diamonds on earrings like this would have cost $5000 but you "only" paid $800". Apparently all of their other black diamonds had major flaws also. I was offered an exchange in the store but how could I trust anything else in they sold? I ended up just taking the earring and chalking it up to a caveat emptor. This store has really nice jewelry but at these prices I would expect a little more pride in their work. I have a difficult time believing that there is not another stone that can be swapped out for this one. The "we totally sold you a piece of crap but can't do a thing about it" defense is weak and barely deserves this one star I gave them. Damn you, caveat emptor!! read more

Spent $190 on a 26" silver box chain for a pendant that I've had for 20 years but the chain had broke several years back. I love the look of the chain but the the clasp looks poorly constructed. First and foremost; big ups to Pat B for initially introducing me to this place. We went to look at tie-clips, since as a Physicians Assistant, it's prolly not sanitary to have his tie flapping about when treating patients' open wounds and whatnot. But while browsing around, I noticed that with a good 70% of the merchandise being large, masculine, and solidly bold, Versani seems to cater mainly toward handcrafted men's jewelry - which is a rarity. And I loved it. So much so, that I recently dragged Peter here. He's been talking about getting into jewelry lately, possibly starting with a statement ring or a nice watch. So we entered the comfortable subterranean shop with artfully arranged display cases, organized by similar materials, along the length of Versani's exposed brick walls. On one hand, I gotta admit; with some of the collections revolving around the concept of embossed snakeskin leather or dark denim set in super-shiny sterling silver, the first thing I thought was "AHHHH - GUIDO GEMS!!!" But not everything is as ostentatious; some of the brushed silver pieces are real works of art, and display a quiet dignity that would be more appropriate for those of the white collar (versus popped collar) set. And while they don't have an extensive men's watch section, there's also a few really nice pieces here for women, ranging from simple gold hoops to elegant, emerald-cut precious stone cocktail rings, which I dig. Did I also mention the antiques section in the rear? For all you taxidermy lovers, they have a small collection of stuffed mammals scattered amongst hand-blown wine decanters, vintage bars disguised as large radios, and crystal knickknacks. Conclusion; like that weird older uncle, Versani is an odd little jewelry store...but you love them for their eclectiveness. read more

Versani specializes in chunky silver Unisex pieces that are meant to be statements, not just adornments. I have bought several items from them over the years, and they have stood the test of time and wear. Their selection, however, though occasionally sprinkled with gold and semi-precious stones, can be somewhat redundant. Even so, finding matching pieces can be tough, as many of their earrings are much finer in weight and design than their necklaces, rings and bracelets. Though their prices are a little on the high side (about $250 for a Sterling silver wrist cuff), I have to say, you mostly get what you pay for as the pieces are well made and well weighted. However, if you ever do have an issue with one of their pieces, they have on site repair, which includes free buffing for the life of the piece. Overall, if Versani is your style, you won't find a better store. read more

Rude staff, rough interior that scratches your belongings. This Soho stores are quite em full of rough wood that "scratches the staff's clothes all the time", according to one sales. My precious coat was pinched a hole by the display counter!The General manager Gabrielle promptly and coldly said: it's OK. She further argued that there was nothing to apologize for, there was nobody to talk to for this problem. I tried to give suggestion to others staff, none willing to listen. My husband and I stumbled on Versani many years ago and had such a memorable experience that visiting Ara has become a "must" stop whenever we're in New York. I LOVE jewelry and Ara's unique and constantly evolving designs are pure quality, can be dressed up or down, and I rarely wear one of his pieces without getting compliments from random strangers. My husband loves jewelry too, but is quite picky--it must be extremely masculine and unique. Ara hits it every time. The people who work here are really nice and helpful. The jewelry itself is beautiful, although quite expensive. But,they get two stars because every piece that either I or someone I know has gotten from here has fallen apart, unfortunately. When I was in highschool, my parents got me a ring from here as a present. It was so cute, but after a couple of months, the stone fell out. A few years ago ( which was many years later),I popped in here and saw a pretty ring in the sale section. I bought it and wore it for three months and yet again, one of the stones fell out. An ex boyfriend bought a bicycle chain looking bracelet from here last summer and it was not cheap. The first day he wore it, the clasp broke. I am not rough with my jewelry and I wear rings all the time. The only other time I have had stones fall out on me was from silver street fair rings with marcasite stones. Considering the price at Versani, that's pretty dissapointing. The only type of thing I would possibly consider buying from here in the future would be something like a ring with a solid design and no stones, so that there was nothing that could break or fall off. But, I'd sooner just not buy anything, because though the designs are lovely, the quality is not very good. read more

Versani has very nice, original pieces of jewelry, no doubt. But pay attention to this and the other similar reviews when you are warned about the quality - stones fall out, are not of the highest quality, clasps break, chains links open - and Versani repairs are very poorly done. They state they have on-site repairs, and polishing of your jewelry will be done for life - but every time I came in for a polishing, they took over 45 minutes (or I could come back the next day) and tried to sell me things while I waited. I've had 4 repairs done in the last 2 years - two for chains breaking, two for stones falling out - and each took well over a month to return to me, and the quality of all the repairs was poor. I was recently kept waiting over a month to repair a broken chain. When the chain was returned, it had not been cleaned, and a big blob of silver solder was on the clasp. The broken chain was kinked and damaged, and the piece looked awful. The store had promised me a replacement, but said their repair was "adequate". Never again will I shop at Versani. It is not worth the trouble. read more

I had the great pleasure of stumbling into Versani last weekend, while in NYC on business. I am a big fan of silver and have had a hard time finding any unique pieces in Chicago where I live. Walking into Versani was like walking into a hidden fortress, you walk downstairs and all of the jewelry is beautifully displayed in wooden crafted cases. All of the jewelry was solid, I was also very happy to hear that all of the their pieces are designed by the owner and hand crafted in the store. Where else in NYC can you find a jewelry store like this! Awesome! The staff was very friendly and immediately offered to help me as soon as I walked in the store. Yaf was the name of the woman who helped me and she was fabulous! I come to NY often to shop and do business, and I have never met a sales person like Yaf! She was attentive and really understood what I was looking for. In addition, I'd like to also add that Yaf really took the time to educate me on what I was buying and how it was made. Another plus!!!
