I can't definitely see this hitting the spot after a night of drinking, but for a first visit, the ordering at the counter was not super clear between the many various handwritten signs about specials, new items, and other things. It can be overwhelming, but they also post the menu on the door so I came it with a little understanding of there being a lot going on just generally. I ordered the spicy muffuletta, hot. I loved the olive tapenade, and the sesame bread was perfect for soaking up all the oils. The sauce would drip down my arms as I noshed on this giant sandwich, and I didn't even notice. I also can't believe how generous the portions were, but NOLA does late night food right. Staff were straightforward, service was fast, and I will be back! Verti Marte is a must try when in NOLA. I was looking for a place that had quick shrimp po boy options. While I was there, a local recommended I try their roast beef po boy. So I ended up switching my order to this. It was actually a really amazing dish. I liked the buttered bread, fresh lettuce, mayo, tomatoes, and roast beef. The roast beef was tender and juicy. Every time I am in New Orleans I stop at Verti Marte for one of their huge, messy poboys. The storefront is not nice, service is surly, but the sandwich is pure magic. I usually get All That Jazz. It has grilled shrimp, turkey and ham, grilled mushrooms, cheese, tomatoes and wow sauce. It last at least 2 meals and about 20 napkins later. The price has gone up quite a bit. The sandwich is $18. Important reminder, order and pay at register before going to the back to give them your ticket. I forget half the time and waste a lot of time. read more

The bread was falling apart though despite eating it within 10 mins of getting it and I wish it wasn't. It made it a bit harder to eat but thankfully we found some tables at the French market. The fried shrimp was very fresh and really well breaded. The set up is interesting, it seems like there's a register for all the liquor store stuff and a register for the deli section of this establishment. Wanted to try the famous Po'Boy but couldn't. The market is open 24/7 but they stop making sandwiches at a certain time. I arrived in New Orleans at 4:50AM and was at the market around 5:17. Nothing is mentioned online about this which was very unfortunate. The area at the time is also very sketchy. I felt unsafe so I quickly walked away somewhere else and called a Lyft to my hotel. There was a line and no place to go, was told the menu is in the back, get out of line - head to the back and there is a sign saying order at cashier. Why not post that ON THE DOOR? Never heard of this place until I walked by it almost daily during my week long stay in the New Orleans French Quarter. I am not a fan of New Orleans Po Boys and I don't frequent 24/7 places to eat, as up at 6am and asleep at 10pm. All this changed once I found Verti Marte. Located in a residential area of the French Quarter with 2 hour limits on parking 7am-7pm rigorously enforced. Stay longer than 2 hours and you risk a parking citation, or even having your car towed. Convenience store open 24/7 with groceries, snack foods in the front and deli in the back. Narrow aisles, especially around the cashier, where most people have to move sideways to get by. Prevents wholesale thief. Front windows covered with metal fencing to prevent break ins. You place your order with the front cashier, paying in advance, no dine and dash, and waiting 10-20 minutes for your order to be made. Have to hand over your receipt to get your food. No ticket, no food. All That Jazz sandwich costs $25.28 when delivered by Grubhub, before delivery and tip charges. Cash price in person takeout is $17.25 plus $1.80 tax or $19.05 -10.43% sales tax on convenience food! Credit card in person takeout price is $19.81 -4% surcharge. Sign at store says "No refund without the return of the food/item purchased. No refund if two or more bites are eaten from returned food." So only take one big bite of the sandwich if you are unsure if you'll like it! Walked 200 feet to my timeshare, up 18 stairs, to my 300 square foot condo. Wife gets half, and I get half of the 12 inch submarine sandwich. One bite and I'm in Po Boy heaven. Each bite has grilled shrimp, turkey, ham, mushrooms, tomatoes, swiss cheese and American cheese, topped off with WOW sauce, and surrounded by a food long roll of bread. So messy, best eaten over a plate, with a fork to pile in all the shrimp, mushrooms and tomatoes falling out. The WOW sauce causes the bread to dampen and weaken, falling apart in your hands. The slices of turkey and ham prevent the sandwich from completely falling apart. The grilled shrimp in the white-orange WOW sauce is heavenly. Do not eat when wearing white pants or white shirt. I did, but my timeshare condo had a washing machine and dryer. We didn't eat this once, but twice, during our 1 week stay in New Orleans. Almost made it three times, but wife balked on the last day. Eat this thing daily for years and you won't be able to fit through the narrow aisles of Verti Marte, and will have to send your thinner relative to pickup the food. It's not a 5 star grocery store; it's a 5 star sandwich shop. When you visit then first time its like a teeny tiny seven-eleven but with aisles that are narrow and the floors sometimes have boxes blocking the way a little. If you need groceries or some drinks for your hotel stay then go to Rouses but if you crave an amazing Po Boy then you are in the right place. Push to the back of the little shop and you'll find the deli counter and the menu board (HUGE SELECTION). I almost always go for the Shrimp Po Boy. I get mine with lettuce tomato and their wow sauce but sometimes I get mayo instead of wow sauce. Bread is always excellent and the fried shrimp has crispy breading but then shrimp is cooked perfect. I had the signature All That Jazz sandwich which comes with ham, turkey and lots of shrimp (all grilled), Swiss and American cheese, mushrooms and tomatoes on grilled French bread with sesame seeds. It's a messy sandwich but oh so good. Washed it down with a Barq's Red Creme Soda. It's about 20$ after taxes and a nominal 4% ($0.90) card service fee. You definitely get your money's worth.
