Excellent place for an early breakfast. The beignets are how I like them to be, crispy but doughy on the inside. I ordered the Eggs Ranchero with chorizo which offers a different kind of breakfast plate. The classic eggs Benedict has a slightly different hollandaise sauce than what is considered classic. The ham and cheese omelette was really good according to my daughter. The service was fast and friendly. We were seated promptly. Our food came out quick and fresh. Jimmy J's Café 115 Chartres I was in New Orleans from Thursday to Monday, during the first weekend of the 2026 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. I had checked out of my hotel (Crowne Plaza on Canal) and wanted to stop for breakfast before heading out to the airport. On foot, not more than a five-minute walk, I was heading for another venue (which will remain nameless) when I encountered the open doors at 115 Chartres, for Jimmy J's Café. I stopped and asked for a menu. Good choice! Small seating inside and out, and excellent service (thank you, Ashley Be.). Ashley took my order for à la carte: two eggs ($5), home fries ($4), and English muffin ($4). She correctly and thoughtfully asked if I wanted to just order Eggs Americano - but the menu showed the dish included bacon, which I was trying to avoid. So, I stayed with my order of the three side dishes and added an upside-down pineapple cocktail ($11) - not sure what was in it, but it was the perfect morning wake-up call. Everything came out fast, was full of flavor, and the portions were huge. They would be easy to share, even if you're hungry. Wow this place is a gem! Inside super cute and small tables around for two to four seats. Service top notch sat immediately and given tons of drink selections. Service started n ended rushed. We got there about an hour before close. Everyone of the stuff acted like they wanted out of there. We ordered a pancake, half order biscuits n gravy, half order french toast, bacon, eggs. Nothing stood out. I don't know what is in that sausage gravy but it tasted like straight flour to me. Jimmy J's Cafe is a small little cafe on a random little street. I'm so glad I found it on yelp! We ordered the Hangover po boy, dirty south bowl, and Espresso martini. The espresso martini was not on the physical menu, but I saw it on a list of drinks on their wall. Maybe it was just intended to be artwork, because what I got was NOT an espresso martini. It was still good though, just totally different flavor. The bartender said she used Vanilla Vodka, Cold brew, Carolans (kind of like a baileys), and chocolate syrup. It got the job done. The dirty south bowl was AMAZING! I was full, but couldn't stop eating it! Just thinking about it, I want more. Everything was cooked well. The potatoes were just the right amount of soft inside and crunchy outside. I could literally drink the sauce it was so flavorful. The hangover poboy was good. I only had a bite, but my husband devoured it. The staff was friendly and attentive. I would definitely recommend this place. There are so many foods I would want to come back and try. Stopped in with my wife for a pre-departure breakfast. The setting is very comfortable and appealing for a small café. We were immediately welcomed by Stephanie, who also served as our waitress. She took care of bringing us some water and mentioned she'd be right back to take our breakfast order. My wife ordered the Beignets, and I decided to put together an à la carte breakfast. I chose the Andouille sausage, two eggs, and a half order of biscuits and gravy. The beignets arrived hot, fluffy, and fresh. The andouille sausage was good, though not quite as spicy as I'm accustomed to. The eggs were cooked as requested, and the biscuits and gravy were delicious. The biscuit was fluffy and buttery, and the gravy was perfectly seasoned with a rich flavor and a generous amount of sausage pieces mixed in. Me and my coworkers are in town for a conference in the Marriott across the street. We hit our first lunch break for the week and Jimmy J's looked like the best option. We walk in the door and the dude behind the counter kinda snapped and pointed for us to sit at a table. We let him know that we had 2 more coming, he snaps again that he can't seat us until the full party is there. Me and my buddy step just outside the door, kinda close but not blocking anyone from coming in or out. It was raining, so we didn't go too far. Dude then snapped again that we couldn't stand in the doorway. So, we went to Daisy Duke's next door. It's really a shame, we always look for a local spot that makes for a quick lunch during this gig every year. I guess Jimmy J's will miss out on the business. read more

Maybe this is drunk/hungover person's paradise and that's where the rating is coming from but for the sober looking for good vibes and better food, this is not it. I'm not even sure this could be classified as a cafe. It's definitely a hole in the wall dive, with at least one colorful character working there. But the food is mid at best. Context: We were in New Orleans with friends for a quick weekend trip in January 2024. It was our last day and we were looking for a brunch spot before we all flew home later in the day. We happened to walk by this place by chance and I am so glad we did. This place was the best restaurant we hit up while in NOLA and probably one of the best experiences of 2024, hands down. Food and drink: The food here is soul food cooked with love and it is so amazing. Our table all settled on different things so I was able to see a different variety of dishes. From tasty looking omelets and breakfast bowls to decadent french toast (I had the bananas foster french toast, AMAZING), everything I sampled was so good. I honestly will go back to this place to try another french toast dish - Fruity Pebbles, banana bread, Captain Crunch...how do I choose?! Coffee was NOLA strong, just the way I like it. If you are looking for a boozy brunch, they have a small bar that whips up classics like Irish Coffee or Mimosas. Service: Super-fast and super friendly. All the waitresses had a nickname and they chatted with every table like it were family. Our group had a great time teasing and joking around with the ladies. They kept up the whole time and made the whole experience that much more enjoyable. Seriously, some of the best service I have ever had in my life - no kidding. Price: Prices were very competitive for this place being downtown. There was a line to get a table and now I know why. Great food, great service, and great prices. Portions were just right and you didn't leave hungry at all. My consensus: This is a must stop while in New Orleans even if you are not a fan of brunch or breakfast. We found this spot while walking toward Sax Fifth Ave from Royal Sonesta hotel. There was outdoor seating but little too breezy on this morning so dined inside. I made the decision to find the best rated breakfast in New Orleans...it wasn't easy but it led me to the whole in the wall Jimmy J's were I ordered the French Toast Monte Crisco which came with hash browns. The smell of the San which was amazing, the look of it was okay. I bit into it and was like, "okay, okay". And then I dipped it into one part maple syrup and one part hot sauce and that already approved "okay, okay", turned into "well damn this is good!" Take my recommendation dip and double dip those sauces with this sandwich. The potatoes were good...well cooked but adding salt is mandatory! I would come again and order the same thing, you likely won't finish What you have because the portions are more generous than you think. And yes the service was good, the ladies at the register when you enter were amazing! There are not a lot of seats here so order in advance. I'd happily stop by Jimmy J's on any future trip back to NOLA. Where to start. It's a smaller spot so if you have a bigger group you may have a short wait but for 2 we were able to be sat immediately. Our server Diesel greeted us promptly, recommended some items to us, and brought our drinks quickly. We got the shrimp and girts, 2 grilled pork chop with French toast and I was in blissful, heaven and had to loosen my belt a little. The shrimp and grits were divine and I'm sure I'll be dreaming about them in the upcoming days. The pork chops with the gravy were great (the shrimp just had more of that WOW factor but I ate both with no complaints) I unfortunately didn't try to French toast because I stuffed myself, and my hotel didn't offer a microwave to heat up food but it looked just as great as the other options. The blackened pork chop is a hard pass. It's a blade steak firstly and not a pork chop... But that can be regional. The problem is with the blade steak you end up with a fatty salty mess. At $18 the food on your plate is probably less than $2... Just not pleasurable. Staff was positive and accommodating but nonetheless I will not be returning. So visiting another state we had to see what New Orleans crab cakes have to offer. It's probably my mistake for trying the crab cake at this establishment but it was missing the crab. I was so disappointed I had to ask google what's the difference between Louisiana crab cakes and Maryland crab cakes. The description I read is exactly what I received from this restaurant - the use of breadcrumbs or cornmeal, Creole seasoning and then pan-fried in oil. It may have had shredded pieces of crab but I didn't see it or taste it. The shrimp po boy was simple. The shrimps were fried well. read more

We went here based on the reviews - and were very disappointed in the food. The service was mediocre at best (but this is across the board in New Orleans) I ordered a Steak & Egg Omelette - they do not use real egg (it is liquid egg). The omelette was extremely greasy and the fillings were falling/sliding out of the omelette. The hash browns were undercooked - which meant they were hard. The french toast was absolutely horrible. It appeared as the toasted bread and not even French toast. We reordered it and it was so bland that I can't imagine that this is what French Toast taste like. The breakfast bowl was quite a let down as well. Hasbrowns being undercooked as well as overcooked bacon and sausage. The country gravy was probably the best thing they had. It is NOT sausage gravy - it's a creole based gravy so don't actually think white country gravy. Overall, I would not revisit this place. The food was horrible. read more

We were visiting New Orleans from out of town for a friend's birthday (it also happened to be St. Patty's Day weekend) and decided to come here for breakfast one day. They have a small amount of tables inside and their waiting area is actually across the street in order to not crowd the store front. There were two people ahead of us for a table and we waited about 10-15 minutes before one of the workers waived to both us and the people ahead of us to come get seated. Not too bad for a holiday weekend! Once seated we quickly got serviced and our waitress was extremely friendly, provided great recommendations and was funny too!! She was really amazing I wish I caught her name!! Everyone working was very friendly actually! We got seated near the bathroom which at first I was a little wary but it actually never bothered us and we didn't get any weird smells and weren't bothered by the traffic in and out. My friend got the shrimp and grits and I got one of the daily specials on their chalk board on the back wall, the blackened chicken bowl (with jalapeños as recommended by our server if you like spicy stuff which I do). My bowl was PHENOMENAL!!! Sooo tasty, plenty of chicken, and the portion looks deceivingly small. It was more than enough to get me stuffed! My friend enjoyed her shrimp and grits as well. I got to try a bite and it's great if you like super creamy and cheesy grits! The flavor was great and the portion was great as well. Just a five minute walk from Bourbon Street, Jimmy J's Cafe is a great little breakfast spot to enjoy in the French Quarter. (+) Friendly service. New Orleans literally does not have a lack of great breakfast options in the French Quarter. We stumbled upon Jimmy J's and were so happy we did. My boyfriend got a hurricane and I got the cucumber Bloody Mary. He liked his hurricane, but I definitely wasn't as good as Pat O'Brien's original. My cucumber Bloody Mary was delicious. The food was amazing. I got an omelette with some crawfish and shrimp and he got a ham french toast. Everything was so good and the portions were humongous. Service was quick.
