Wow this place is a gem! Inside super cute and small tables around for two to four seats. Service top notch sat immediately and given tons of drink selections. The menu is full of choices, indicator say the Monte Cristo was a speciality. Portions were perfect for the price, did not feel overfull. Great great breakfast!!!!

Average. Ticked I wasted a breakfast here. Very small spot. Like maybe 30 folks can fit. Good news is that they allow you order single items so you can order multiple things to try. Service started n ended rushed. We got there about an hour before close. Everyone of the stuff acted like they wanted out of there. We ordered a pancake, half order biscuits n gravy, half order french toast, bacon, eggs. Nothing stood out. I don't know what is in that sausage gravy but it tasted like straight flour to me. Bacon was decent and the banana foster french toast was just ok. The check was brought as soon as she put the plates down. I was planning to get a cocktail to go. Heck with her. Less tip for her. Too many great places to eat n better service. One is right next door. Hint hint daisy duke. Worst breakfast of the trip. Keep walking.

Jimmy J's Cafe is a small little cafe on a random little street. I'm so glad I found it on yelp! We ordered the Hangover po boy, dirty south bowl, and Espresso martini. The espresso martini was not on the physical menu, but I saw it on a list of drinks on their wall. Maybe it was just intended to be artwork, because what I got was NOT an espresso martini. It was still good though, just totally different flavor. The bartender said she used Vanilla Vodka, Cold brew, Carolans (kind of like a baileys), and chocolate syrup. It got the job done. The dirty south bowl was AMAZING! I was full, but couldn't stop eating it! Just thinking about it, I want more. Everything was cooked well. The potatoes were just the right amount of soft inside and crunchy outside. I could literally drink the sauce it was so flavorful. The hangover poboy was good. I only had a bite, but my husband devoured it. The staff was friendly and attentive. I would definitely recommend this place. There are so many foods I would want to come back and try. For example one of their many French toasts, Poboys, or their shrimp and grits.

I'm a fervent fan of ratatouille, and was greatly looking forward to a breakfast with a side of ratatouille. The Eggs Lafitte does NOT come with a side of ratatouille. That was a sad disappointment for me. I pointed out this discrepancy to the server but she was unconcerned. Boo.

Seems quite a lot of dough in the crab cake. Egg is cooked well. Interesting interior design. Not too busy on a weekday morning.

Jimmy J's Café is hands down one of my favorite spots in New Orleans! Nestled on a little side street, this gem is packed with flavor and hospitality. Every time I visit, the staff is warm and welcoming, making it feel like home. Giving old French quarter vibes. This time, I tried the Dirty South Bowl--shrimp, andouille sausage, and breakfast potatoes smothered in a rich garlic cream sauce and topped with Parmesan. Let me tell you, that cream sauce had me licking my fingers! Every bite was packed with bold, comforting flavors that scream Southern goodness. Jimmy J's is truly one of the French Quarter's best-kept secrets. If you haven't been yet, you're missing out!

Get the breakfast nachos. I never knew this was a thing I needed in my life but it is apparently. This is NOT a health food place so..... keep that in mind. The breakfast sandwich is also good or try the fruity pebble French toast. Just a small little place with not much seating but we never have a problem getting in and the service has always been good for us.

Context: We were in New Orleans with friends for a quick weekend trip in January 2024. It was our last day and we were looking for a brunch spot before we all flew home later in the day. We happened to walk by this place by chance and I am so glad we did. This place was the best restaurant we hit up while in NOLA and probably one of the best experiences of 2024, hands down. Food and drink: The food here is soul food cooked with love and it is so amazing. Our table all settled on different things so I was able to see a different variety of dishes. From tasty looking omelets and breakfast bowls to decadent french toast (I had the bananas foster french toast, AMAZING), everything I sampled was so good. I honestly will go back to this place to try another french toast dish - Fruity Pebbles, banana bread, Captain Crunch...how do I choose?! Coffee was NOLA strong, just the way I like it. If you are looking for a boozy brunch, they have a small bar that whips up classics like Irish Coffee or Mimosas. Service: Super-fast and super friendly. All the waitresses had a nickname and they chatted with every table like it were family. Our group had a great time teasing and joking around with the ladies. They kept up the whole time and made the whole experience that much more enjoyable. Seriously, some of the best service I have ever had in my life - no kidding. Price: Prices were very competitive for this place being downtown. There was a line to get a table and now I know why. Great food, great service, and great prices. Portions were just right and you didn't leave hungry at all. My consensus: This is a must stop while in New Orleans even if you are not a fan of brunch or breakfast. Seriously, you can't miss this place. Compared to some of the other well known brunch options in the area, I would always choose this place over them. I will be in town next summer and I know where I am going for breakfast. Banana bread french toast, here I come!

Jimmy J's is a hidden gem tucked away in a unassuming spot - the quintessential hole-in-the-wall joint that punches way above its weight in flavor. We stumbled upon it on a whim and got incredibly lucky with zero wait time, which made the whole experience even better. The food was straightforward but delicious; everything we ordered hit the spot with fresh ingredients and solid portions. Service was impressively quick and friendly, without feeling rushed. If you're in the mood for no-frills, satisfying eats in a cozy, low-key setting, this place delivers. Highly recommend for a quick bite! 4.5/5 stars.

Delicious food. Small little hole in the wall with great hospitality. Definitely reccomend checking this place out if it's your first time in nola or a local!

We found this spot while walking toward Sax Fifth Ave from Royal Sonesta hotel. There was outdoor seating but little too breezy on this morning so dined inside. We were just looking for a quick breakfast bite. My wife says after the fact that our waitress had rotten teeth but I didn't even notice, she was attending and got us in and out. I was very happy with my order scrumptious, affordable, filling. I commented to my wife that I would return if given the chance.

    French Toast Monte Cristo

I made the decision to find the best rated breakfast in New Orleans...it wasn't easy but it led me to the whole in the wall Jimmy J's were I ordered the French Toast Monte Crisco which came with hash browns. The smell of the San which was amazing, the look of it was okay. I bit into it and was like, "okay, okay". And then I dipped it into one part maple syrup and one part hot sauce and that already approved "okay, okay", turned into "well damn this is good!" Take my recommendation dip and double dip those sauces with this sandwich. The potatoes were good...well cooked but adding salt is mandatory! I would come again and order the same thing, you likely won't finish What you have because the portions are more generous than you think. And yes the service was good, the ladies at the register when you enter were amazing! There are not a lot of seats here so order in advance. If there is a table you can take it and you already have your food. If not take it with you and go sit on the water in the French Quarter and enjoy!

We are planning a breakfast on a Monday coming up as we're from out of town. Is there usually a long wait as I see you don't take reservations?

There was definitely a wait but they got customers in and out quickly.

They are listed as having vegan options but I don't see anything remotely close on the menu. Any tips?

One of the best cups of coffee I have ever had. Does anyone know what brand they use?

There are many good brands of NOLA coffee so your best bet is to call Jimmy J's and just ask them!

Is breakfast served all day, or does breakfast service end at a certain time?

    Breakfast is all day.

I was in New Orleans for the 2026 Jazz and Heritage Festival, so my mornings were my own. I travel alone and don't always look for reservations when planning on a meal in this city. Streetcar Café is a perfect choice for what I was looking for: ample breakfast choices, a full bar, and excellent service by Andres. I ordered two poached eggs ($3.50), a single pancake ($4.50), and hash brown potatoes ($4). Totally reasonable pricing, and excellent meals, topped with the Always Summer (Malibu rum, Triple sec, OJ, Pineapple juice, Grenadine, $13). The place filled up pretty quickly after I arrived at around 10 a.m. Andres did an outstanding job of keeping track of my order, and served up the menu items piping hot. Couldn't finish it all, but it was a best-choice for brunch this morning.

The fried 'seafood' platter contains farm-raised imported shrimp, farm-raised imported Swai (a foreign garbage-eating pond-raised fish), and farmed oysters for $26. No thanks. Ok. Switching to gumbo. Uh, their 'gumbo' is a thin broth with virtually no solid ingredients besides white rice. A very few minuscule shreds of chicken and maybe a 6-8 tiny cubes of some tasteless sausage for $17. It did come with a nice biscuit. Be aware of what's being served. Stick to the well-known real-deal restaurants. Not everything is what it claims to be. Nothing real about this ripoff. We'll never go back to this tourist trap.

Though pop-up showers were still lingering, my husband and I decided to take a gamble on courtyard dining--and I am so glad we did! Sheltered under the green umbrellas surrounded by historic brick walls, lush greenery, and rain-kissed citrus trees, the atmosphere was incredibly romantic and peaceful. The courtyard's intimate layout even brought a bit of extra magic to our evening. We sat near another wonderful couple (and their adorable daughter) and became fast friends, sharing laughs and conversation throughout the night. What truly anchored the experience, though, was the incredible service. The staff was remarkably personable, helpful, and welcoming. The dinner itself was excellent from start to finish, showcasing immense culinary skill across every dish. We started with the delicious brussels sprouts and a uniquely seasoned spring/summer gumbo that was unlike any version we've had before (oh, what I would give for the recipe). As for the entrées, the shrimp and grits were phenomenal, and the blackened catfish sandwich with a fresh salad was executed flawlessly...and the bread pudding was fantastic, too! It is rare to find an experience where top-tier hospitality, a breathtaking environment, and great food come together so (seemingly) effortlessly. Café Amélie is an absolute must-visit! We will be back.
