Patrick, Tevin and Jocelyn were kind, professional and patient with everyone. Dr. Jin met with us before the CT scan and spent a good amount of time explaining the entire procedure. He put us at ease and it was clear he had Max's best interest at heart. He was so kind and sweet. He addressed every issue we raised and we didn't feel rushed during that meeting. Surgery was performed on July 28, 2026 and Dr. Jin called us personally and advised all went well! I also want to talk about Lori who is the surgical liaison. Lori possesses an abundance of knowledge and information and is head and shoulders above any person I have met in a similar position. She also took her time with us addressing concerns and answered our questions with the undeniable experience and certainty of a professional. Of course surgery is an unexpected expense, so we expressed that concern as well. We were given an initial estimate of expenses and the final bill came under what we anticipated. There were no hidden costs or unexpected expenses incurred. Transparency throughout the entire process from explanation of injury to payment was so appreciated and helped put our minds at ease as well as making the decision to put Max in the care of Dr. Jin and his wonderful team!

During that consultation, we learned that surgery would be higher risk because of a cardiac condition we had not previously known about. Dr. Jin involved the cardiologist on staff, carefully considered the additional risks, and developed a thoughtful treatment plan. When our cat ultimately needed surgery, Dr. Larkin performed the procedure and provided his follow-up care. He was truly exceptional. He took extra time to explain the surgery and our cat's condition, patiently answered all of our questions, and continued to follow up with us throughout his recovery. His knowledge, expertise? skill, compassion, demeanor and attentiveness put us at ease during an incredibly stressful time. My cat has had kidney disease for the past few years along with other issues that I'd been managing fairly successfully with medications, but I could tell something was really wrong and needed to find someone to take her to while I was out here (we live in Astoria). I chose Good Ground due to proximity and the fact that they had an appointment available later that day. I called my vet in Astoria to forward over her records so they'd have all the info and know her health had been on the decline. It was a long wait from the time we got there until we were seen, and when Dr. Swanson finally saw her she didn't seem to know anything about my cat's history even though I'd forwarded the records. I filled her in, and she recommended bloodwork and a urinalysis to learn more about what was going on, as well as giving her some fluids and a shot of antibiotics since her urine looked cloudy. I asked the vet if there was any food she recommended for cats in this state to entice them to eat. She recommended some kind of organic food you could only order online...I was looking for something that was easily accessible that was palatable. My cat didn't improve and got worse, so the next afternoon I was eager to talk to someone to find out what the bloodwork had found. The front desk person told me that the vet usually calls at the end of the day to talk about bloodwork but again I reminded her that my cat had not eaten or drank anything in days and that this situation is more urgent than that, that I'd want to bring her back in today if something could or couldn't be done. I finally heard back from the vet who confirmed my worst suspicions -- her kidney disease had progressed dramatically, and on top of that she had a terrible UTI. The vet kept calling my cat a he during this time which was also upsetting on top of getting this news, wasn't her gender anywhere in these results? She then talked about hospitalizing my cat for three days and giving her an IV to flush out her kidneys. I ask what the outcome of that would be. Best case, she tells me my cat lives another month and then we're right back where we are now. Worst case, my cat gets hospitalized for three days, comes home and crashes and we have to put her down anyway. I guess don't really know how folks are out here about their pets. I know it's the Hamptons, so maybe people here feel more inclined to throw money at the problem. But money aside (my insurance would've covered it), I couldn't imagine putting my cat through a hospital stay and have her last days of life be spent in a strange place which I know she hates, only to have her die a day later anyway. I was surprised that I had to be the one to bring euthanasia up in this conversation and not the vet. While I was waiting for this bloodwork, I had called my vet in Astoria who agreed that euthanasia was likely the best option for my cat at this stage. If you've had a pet for as long as I had my cat (14 years), you know when something is really, really wrong. Throughout her illness I'd always been so afraid I wouldn't know when the right time to put her down would be. If you have a chronically ill pet, I can promise you, you'll know. I will say that putting my cat down here was the kindest experience it could have been. The entire staff were extremely respectful and communicative during every part of the process. They even gave me a plaque with her pawprints imprinted in it as well as a paper with her ink prints. I don't know that Good Grounds is the best option in an emergency situation, but I do think that for more straightforward, non-emergent issues it would be a decent vet choice.

Instead of being met with compassion, empathy, and professionalism, they left feeling dismissed, upset, and deeply hurt by the way the staff handled the situation. No family should have to experience the loss of a pet while also feeling unsupported by the very people who are supposed to provide comfort and care. The lack of sensitivity and professionalism during such a heartbreaking moment only added to their grief.I understand that veterinary medicine can be stressful and emotionally demanding, but kindness and compassion should never be overlooked. Pets are family, and their owners deserve to be treated with respect during one of the worst days of their lives. Based on what my friend experienced, I would encourage others to carefully consider where they choose to bring their pets. Very disrespectful to the clients' time. When I question the staff how much longer it will be, the responses and tone from the assistants are not friendly. The office is too crowded and disorganized.
