What wonderful young people that work here to help your pet. While we didn't get the result we had hoped for and went through a roller coaster of emotions going from one diagnosis to another, we had to come to the realization it was time for our dear Zoe.

VEG correctly diagnosed the problem and prescribed a course of treatment that resolved the issue within a week or two.

I brought my little fur-baby to VEG several hours after a different vet who we hadn't seen before misdiagnosed an issue with his eye. This was my first experience with VEG, and they were terrific. Dr. Oller and the team examined my little dog's right eye, which had begun bothering him in the late afternoon and had become swollen and red. Dr. Oller's finding: a scratch on the cornea. Dr. Oller prepared a plan of treatment and after-care -- which included wearing the dreaded cone -- and which I accepted and followed. By morning, my doggie's eye was already looking better. We followed the course of after-care until his regular vet, who we went to for follow-ups, said the eye was fully healed. At VEG, everyone I interacted with and everyone I saw and heard interacting with another family who'd come in with their little dog for an urgent matter, demonstrated heart, compassion and caring that far exceeded my expectations. Hopefully, my little fur-baby won't need emergency care again, but if he does, I won't hesitate to bring him to VEG. I highly recommend VEG for emergency pet care.

I had to bring my kitten to VEG this morning after noticing he was limping. I suspect he had a burst of zoomies while I was out, and a large standing mirror that had been leaning against the wall must have fallen on his leg. I felt absolutely horrible! From the moment we arrived, everyone at VEG was incredibly kind, caring, and empathetic. Dr. Amanda Campbell saw us quickly and was both efficient and compassionate throughout the visit. Nan at the front desk was so sweet and made the check-in and discharge process smooth and fast, which I deeply appreciated during such a stressful time. Unfortunately, my little guy will need surgery, but the team provided clear next steps and helpful resources so I didn't feel overwhelmed or lost. Even though I wish we hadn't needed an emergency visit, I'm grateful we ended up at VEG. I'll definitely return here if we ever face another urgent situation. Thank you to the entire team for taking such good care of us.

They saved our Saint Bernard's life. And they did it with professionalism, efficiency. and compassion which is a rare combination. Every staff member was proficient while being so caring to our big girl. She didn't fit in any of the crates, so they made a bed for her on the floor and pulled couches around it so we could be with her and reduce her anxiety. The cost estimates were carefully explained and we were refunded a portion because a procedure was deemed unnecessary. While deeply traumatic, it was an amazing experience.

They were so sweet and attentive to our corgi when we came in for an emergency. It's an ER so it can get busy but they were so sweet and thoughtful. Would recommend to anyone with an emergency for their pet.

Our bunny getting checked in at VEG Encinitas

We have a little lop bunny who doesn't drink as much water as she should, so we've been to VEG Encinitas 3 times for gastrointestinal (GI) emergencies. Each emergency happened during the night shift, but everyone at VEG was so kind and helpful, from front-of-house to the vet techs to the doctors. We really felt that everyone wanted to help our bunny get better through her 2 overnight stays and 1 outpatient treatment. What I really appreciate about VEG is their: 1. Open floor model - We were able to stay with our bunny throughout each visit, which really helped our peace of mind. I like to think that our bunny also appreciated us being nearby during her lab tests too. 2. Transparency - The VEG staff took super detailed notes on our bunny's condition and care, and they emailed us all the docs afterwards. The documentation has been super helpful to our primary vet and to us. 3. Accessibility, especially for exotic pets - VEG is open 24/7 and they have experience with responding to bunny GI issues. They were also available every time we called with questions before bringing our bunny in, and answered our questions afterwards about how to administer her meds at home. Even though pet emergencies aren't cheap, we're so grateful that VEG is close by to help us when we need it! A special thank you to Randi, Sharlyne, Theresa, Dr. Cherie, Dr. Mortimer, Dr. Solomon, and Dr. Salazar.

I took my best boy, Loki the miniature schnauzer, to VEG this past Sunday after he'd been puking for nearly two days. Was I scared? Absolutely. Were the staff and Dr at VEG compassionate and understanding? Beyond. They went out of their way to keep me calm, and to take the greatest care of Loki. Dr. Salazar was wonderful. Also, they have the best snacks and coffee in the waiting room for us nervous pet parents. I was touched by their followup text to ensure Loki was doing better. Which, he is, and I am grateful for that. You can continue following Loki's story at PNCHELOKI on Instagram and TikTok.

We took our sick parakeet to Dr. Kim today and they took exceptional care of him and I think he is healed. He has stopped wheezing. From the phone call to the front desk then the Vet aide Theresa and follow up with Randi this experience was perfect. I so trust this Vet. THANK YOU

If I could give this place 10 stars I would. I brought my kitty in yesterday morning because he was repeatedly vomiting and foaming at the mouth. I called ahead and received a text link to fill out the intake paperwork and once I arrived we were seen immediately by the doctor and vet tech. Dr. Salazar and nurses Andrea and Samantha were absolutely wonderful to me and my kitty. They were very thorough and took the time to explain to me everything they were doing and what could be wrong. You can tell that they love what they do, have huge hearts for animals, and are truly passionate about veterinary medicine. They treated my kitty like he was their own. Because my kitty needed an ultrasound, the radiologist was not going to be in until later in the afternoon, so they allowed my kitty to stay there during the day and set him up with a nice little condo complete with a cozy bed, blanket, and litterbox. The little things they do to keep the fur babies comfortable meant to much to me. They have the Feliway diffuser in all the exam rooms (its a pheromone that helps calm nervous kitties), they have sound machines to play nature noises, and will even play animal videos for them if needed. I have never seen anything like it. When we were discharged, I was given very detailed notes on how to continue my kitty's care at home. Thank you so much to VEG for taking such wonderful care of my fur baby!!

I think my cat has ringworm, should I bring him in for an exam?

Ringworm can and maybe should be addressed by a licensed Vet and testing. VEG (Veterinary Emergency Group) could certainly help, but remember the "Emergency" part of their name. Call VEG and ask if they should treat this or any reliable Vet. VEG… Read more

They found out my fur baby, Abby, had high levels of bacteria due to a tick disease which absolutely hit me like a train. During our visit with Dr. Hackett, I felt like I was unnecessarily alarmed and pushed toward additional testing that turned out to be completely unnecessary. I brought in my two dogs, including my Border Collie, whose heart rate Dr. Hackett immediately treated as a serious concern. She made it sound like something could be very wrong and suggested multiple tests to rule out an emergency situation. My border collie also gets seizures which I told Dr. Hackett about and she told me she thought they are fainting spells due to his low heart rate, not seizures. Which I also got confirmations he definitely has seizures and nothing else like she suggested. After leaving very worried, I sought second opinions from other veterinarians. They all reassured me that my Border Collie's heart rate was completely normal for the breed and that they have seen even lower heart rates in athletic dogs like him despite his seizures. What was presented to me as potentially alarming was actually very typical. The same thing happened with my senior dog. Dr. Hackett told me her kidney and liver values were elevated and strongly pushed further testing, making it sound urgent. When I had another vet review the labs, they explained the values were only slightly elevated and extremely common in older dogs. They even told me she is far more likely to pass from old age before those numbers would ever reach liver failure levels. They also mentioned the slight elevation could simply be due to her high-protein diet. The experience left me feeling like fear was used to push unnecessary testing rather than providing balanced, knowledgeable guidance. It caused a lot of unnecessary stress and extra expense. Because of this, I would personally recommend seeking care elsewhere and getting a second opinion if you are ever told something is urgently wrong here.

I've never gotten to watch them work like this or for this length of time. The Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) is something that I've never seen before and I am so impressed. It's open concept so everyone being treated is all in the same room and they let you stay with your pet the entire time, even during surgery. They even have rooms that you can sleep in! They let you lay on the floor and hold your baby, they get on the floor to help your baby. I couldn't stay with Mei touching her or even letting her see me because of the spaz attack she has when she sees me which causes her to gasp for air, but they got me a padded bench to sit next to her chamber, close but out of sight. I watched them do a surgery on a cat, a surgery on a dog, leap tables to get to a dog who was seizing, to hold him safe while another tech skidded across the floor with meds like out of a movie, I saw them sprint across the room to stop a large dog from hurting himself, deal with sobbing pet parents (me), carry a massive pig in, x ray that massive pig, treat a ferret, treat a dog for rattlesnake bite, and all the other stuff- it was non. Stop. all with calm yet fierce professionalism and kindness and caring. It takes some special people to work in this field! Competent af. These people know what they are doing. I came flying through their door at 9am with Mei in significant breathing distress like a bat out of hell. I practically fell through the door. I thought she would die in the car on the way over there. I called to let them know I was on my way and they were ready for me when I got there. They shouted "triage!" And 4 people rushed over and immediately put Mei on oxygen and went to work troubleshooting. They put her in the oxygen chamber right away. They noticed that when she saw me she lost her shit and started gasping like crazy so they told me to hide to keep her calmer; and they were right. When I laid down on a bench and closed my eyes I awoke to the doctor putting a blanket on me and the nurse had left a pillow. The open concept allows drs and nurses to move quickly and freely and see everything and communicate things that they need. There were not curtains to block what was happening, no doors to get in the way, you see it all. I appreciated it because I like to KNOW. I want to SEE, otherwise how can you know they are doing it right? I highly, highly recommend them! Blessings on all the heir houses! Truly angels on earth. I owe them a debt I can never repay- they saved my Mei Dr Romy was our doctor and she even stayed late to make sure that Mei didn't get lost in the shuffle during shift change- and I'm talking hours late. If there was ever a vet that deserves donations and volunteers to help it's them. Donate! Volunteer! I am so grateful to them I can't recommend them enough!

I felt hopeless and sad we had not figured it out since she kept getting sick. I told the vet and she kept reiterating upright feedings which was not the solution and wholly unnecessary! Finally, I went to VCA and the vet suggested hydrolyzed protein, what I told the other vet. My dog is now finally doing better now thanks to this place. Don't take your dog here.

By far, the best place to take your dog for urgent care or oncology needs (if you see Dr. Proulx)…read more I've been taking my dog here for just over a year for quarterly consultations with Dr. Proulx. My 11 year old dog has a history of very aggressive MCTs, and Dr. Proulx has helped us put him on a fantastic regimen that has prevented any new tumors from appearing for 15 months, while minimizing dosages for steroids. Dr. Proulx is incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and kind. He answers all of my questions thoughtfully, even when I call from home because I'm a nervous dog mom. We just took my dog to the urgent care this weekend, and it was a great experience. I called in advance to say I was coming up, and they were able to see him right away. They had great bedside manner, thoroughly explained our options for next steps, proactively provided cost transparency, and offered follow up appointments. They also helped me prioritize what was needed so I could decide what to schedule with my pcp to save some money - it's clear they aren't trying to take advantage of you! We saw Dr. Vezeleva, and I can't recommend her enough. When we were done speaking with the care staff, I asked the front desk if I could take my dog to the car to wait while they filled a prescription for me - they immediately brought him out so he could wait comfortably, and they even met me at my car to get me when everything was ready so that the end process as seamless as possible.

The following has been my own experience dealing with this business. conclusions are my own…read moreopinions. Took my dog in for abdominal procedure for a bloat condition. Surgery was done. Dog was kept in the facility for the following 3 days. Went for a visit and was asked if he had anything wrong with his paw. Answer was of course "NO". They explained he had swelling on his paw and that rinsing with warm water would take care of it. They made no mention of embolisms, clots, restraints etc. When we took him back 5 days later with his skin falling off, they tried blaming it on some random "embolism" event. Nothing mentioned of this previously and they obviously didnt bother evaluating or treating for this? In my opinon the injury was from restricting blood flow "tourniquet effect "to the limb based on the circular mark on his paw with damage and swelling below that line. An external pressure injury. In any case, he was in their care when the injury happened. There is nothing showing anyone checked bandages for pressure, ties for being applied appropriately, or that anyone checked his extremities for proper circulation. I believe the "embolism" was nothing but an excuse for their own failures inserted into the record 5 days later. Many months of care, cleaning, changing bandages and preventing him from licking his wound. A full time job. My poor dog still has difficulty walking almost a year later. Sent a demand letter to VCA requesting refund of money I paid for the surgery and other medical treatment. Letter went unanswered. Their insurance company contacted me asking for receipts, which I provided. They then did nothing. I finally filed suit in small claims court. No answer from VCA. Court date pending. nothing explaining their role in this. Filed complaint with licensing board for investigation into their actions and ethics. I called Escondido Veterinary Emergency and spoke to the nicest lady on the phone who answered all my questions, didn't make me feel rushed, or bad about my questions I decided to wait another night and then I took her in after work and when I walked in the lady I talked to on the phone asked if she talked to me yesterday and I said yes. Her name was Brittany from the moment I walked in Brittany was so warm and sweet, said all the right things in my moments of sadness and took such good care and my and Lacey. When I tell you that she went above and beyond... she went above and beyond. She told me I was making the right decision, offered kind words and ice cream to Lacey. Brittany made such an unpleasant experience as pleasant as possible. Once we were done Cara came in and went over everything with me, I just can't tell you how impressed I am with both Brittany and Cara and their kindness. I wish anyone who must make this decision the best possible experience like this one I had. Thank you so much Brittany, Cara and Escondido Veterinary Emergency for being so kind.

My experience with this hospital was extremely disappointing, not only because my dog's condition…read moreworsened after the visit, but also because of the unprofessional way the situation was handled. I brought my dog in because he was panting heavily and seemed restless. At that time, he was still active and able to walk and run normally. After the examination, the hospital performed X-rays, blood work, and an ultrasound, and I was charged about $1,700. Despite all of these tests, they said they could not determine what was wrong with him. Even so, they prescribed antibiotics and discharged us. When we returned home, my dog's condition became dramatically worse. He stopped eating and drinking, became extremely lethargic, and within 24 hours he could barely move and was unable to walk on his own. I called the hospital and was told this was not normal, so I brought him back immediately. However, instead of trying to investigate what might have gone wrong, the hospital insisted that I would need to pay again just for bringing my dog back . The veterinarian suggested they could prescribe painkillers if I wanted. I explained that my dog had been walking and active when I first brought him in, and that the only symptom he had was panting. After all the tests and procedures performed at this hospital, he left unable to walk. Yet the staff still could not explain what had happened and continued suggesting additional medications. The most concerning part of this experience was the veterinarian's unprofessional conduct. When I expressed that I did not think it was fair to pay for another recheck under these circumstances, her attitude immediately changed. She insisted that my dog's current condition had nothing to do with their treatment. Feeling frustrated and unheard, I decided to take my dog home and seek another opinion instead of continuing treatment there. Later, my second veterinarian requested my dog's medical report from Escondido Veterinary Emergency. I learned that the report included details of the argument I had with the hospital and quoted my words. Including personal disputes with a pet owner in a medical record is highly unprofessional. Medical reports should document only the patient's medical condition, findings, and treatment. Recording and sharing personal arguments in a professional report can unfairly influence other veterinarians reviewing the case. As of today, Escondido Veterinary Emergency has not yet sent me a copy of this report, despite having paid $1,700 for the tests and procedures. I strongly encourage other pet owners to think carefully before bringing their animals here.

From the moment we arrived, the staff and Dr. Parkins treated our boy with such gentleness and respect -- and they treated us the same way. They were patient, kind, and never made us feel rushed. They gave us the space to grieve while also guiding us through every step with such care. Their kindness and thoughtfulness in the days and weeks that followed showed us that, it wasn't just a job -- they truly cared. We are so grateful to have had this team with us at the end of his life. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

After getting the referral I called to get scheduled. For a business open 24/7 no one ever answered the phone. I ended up going on the website and filling out a "Contact us" form. I will say the from the time I entered the contact us the contact that was made (via email) was quick (same day) requesting more info. The next day I had an email about a consultation appt (which was scheduled 29 days later- includes weekends). In the email they stated the consultation would be $265 for an hour. It was interesting my vet had recommended us to the hospital for oncology but we were then scheduled an appt with surgery (I am not sure if they had the records from the vet and that is why they went surgery not oncology or what). The day of our appt they ask you arrive early and like any appt nowadays you get there early to be seen 10-15 minutes after your appt time. The first part of the consultation was the vet tech asking about why we were there and putting the info in. They took my dog to be weighed and get other stats, then brought them back. The Dr (surgeon) came in and had a believe a resident with him. The dr explained what was the recommendation (surgery) but answered all my questions, even ones about what would happen if I did not do surgery (it is expensive). The dr was kind and understanding and said it was ok if I chose to do nothing. He gave me signs to look out for if my pet was in distress or decline as quality of life would need to be assessed. I got the actual quote for the surgery and it was $1500 less than the Dr had estimated (which was appreciated) and the vet tech went over some of the charges I may not incur if they are not needed (blood transfusion, extra night in hospital). I appreciated that they were willing to have some flexibility in what is a cost prohibitive procedure. They did not pressure me to make a decision, stated I could call back after having time to think or explore finances (it would require some kind of financial assistance to be able to do the surgery, the vet tech gave us some options she had utilized in the past). The Dr also wrote a rx for essentially dog Tylenol and called it in to Costco to further save money. I understand that Dr's expertise (and the vet tech) needs to be compensated but $265 for talking for less than 30 minutes seems excessive. For about a 45 minute appt with the vet tech/Dr (surgeon) it was about $6 a minute. If you spread it out over the time we were waiting in the lobby not interacting with anyone if brings the cost down to $5 a minute for the hour long consultation. I feel it would have been more reasonable to have a fee of around $150. Parking is very impacted in this area due to many businesses sharing one lot. The spots are also small and people do not park well so you may not be able to get in or out of your car. Overall it was a good experience but an expensive one.
