What wonderful young people that work here to help your pet. While we didn't get the result we had hoped for and went through a roller coaster of emotions going from one diagnosis to another, we had to come to the realization it was time for our dear Zoe.

VEG correctly diagnosed the problem and prescribed a course of treatment that resolved the issue within a week or two.

I brought my little fur-baby to VEG several hours after a different vet who we hadn't seen before misdiagnosed an issue with his eye. This was my first experience with VEG, and they were terrific. Dr. Oller and the team examined my little dog's right eye, which had begun bothering him in the late afternoon and had become swollen and red. Dr. Oller's finding: a scratch on the cornea. Dr. Oller prepared a plan of treatment and after-care -- which included wearing the dreaded cone -- and which I accepted and followed. By morning, my doggie's eye was already looking better. We followed the course of after-care until his regular vet, who we went to for follow-ups, said the eye was fully healed. At VEG, everyone I interacted with and everyone I saw and heard interacting with another family who'd come in with their little dog for an urgent matter, demonstrated heart, compassion and caring that far exceeded my expectations. Hopefully, my little fur-baby won't need emergency care again, but if he does, I won't hesitate to bring him to VEG. I highly recommend VEG for emergency pet care.

I had to bring my kitten to VEG this morning after noticing he was limping. I suspect he had a burst of zoomies while I was out, and a large standing mirror that had been leaning against the wall must have fallen on his leg. I felt absolutely horrible! From the moment we arrived, everyone at VEG was incredibly kind, caring, and empathetic. Dr. Amanda Campbell saw us quickly and was both efficient and compassionate throughout the visit. Nan at the front desk was so sweet and made the check-in and discharge process smooth and fast, which I deeply appreciated during such a stressful time. Unfortunately, my little guy will need surgery, but the team provided clear next steps and helpful resources so I didn't feel overwhelmed or lost. Even though I wish we hadn't needed an emergency visit, I'm grateful we ended up at VEG. I'll definitely return here if we ever face another urgent situation. Thank you to the entire team for taking such good care of us.

They saved our Saint Bernard's life. And they did it with professionalism, efficiency. and compassion which is a rare combination. Every staff member was proficient while being so caring to our big girl. She didn't fit in any of the crates, so they made a bed for her on the floor and pulled couches around it so we could be with her and reduce her anxiety. The cost estimates were carefully explained and we were refunded a portion because a procedure was deemed unnecessary. While deeply traumatic, it was an amazing experience.

They were so sweet and attentive to our corgi when we came in for an emergency. It's an ER so it can get busy but they were so sweet and thoughtful. Would recommend to anyone with an emergency for their pet.

Our bunny getting checked in at VEG Encinitas

We have a little lop bunny who doesn't drink as much water as she should, so we've been to VEG Encinitas 3 times for gastrointestinal (GI) emergencies. Each emergency happened during the night shift, but everyone at VEG was so kind and helpful, from front-of-house to the vet techs to the doctors. We really felt that everyone wanted to help our bunny get better through her 2 overnight stays and 1 outpatient treatment. What I really appreciate about VEG is their: 1. Open floor model - We were able to stay with our bunny throughout each visit, which really helped our peace of mind. I like to think that our bunny also appreciated us being nearby during her lab tests too. 2. Transparency - The VEG staff took super detailed notes on our bunny's condition and care, and they emailed us all the docs afterwards. The documentation has been super helpful to our primary vet and to us. 3. Accessibility, especially for exotic pets - VEG is open 24/7 and they have experience with responding to bunny GI issues. They were also available every time we called with questions before bringing our bunny in, and answered our questions afterwards about how to administer her meds at home. Even though pet emergencies aren't cheap, we're so grateful that VEG is close by to help us when we need it! A special thank you to Randi, Sharlyne, Theresa, Dr. Cherie, Dr. Mortimer, Dr. Solomon, and Dr. Salazar.

I took my best boy, Loki the miniature schnauzer, to VEG this past Sunday after he'd been puking for nearly two days. Was I scared? Absolutely. Were the staff and Dr at VEG compassionate and understanding? Beyond. They went out of their way to keep me calm, and to take the greatest care of Loki. Dr. Salazar was wonderful. Also, they have the best snacks and coffee in the waiting room for us nervous pet parents. I was touched by their followup text to ensure Loki was doing better. Which, he is, and I am grateful for that. You can continue following Loki's story at PNCHELOKI on Instagram and TikTok.

I think my cat has ringworm, should I bring him in for an exam?

During our visit with Dr. Hackett, I felt like I was unnecessarily alarmed and pushed toward additional testing that turned out to be completely unnecessary. I brought in my two dogs, including my Border Collie, whose heart rate Dr. Hackett immediately treated as a serious concern. She made it sound like something could be very wrong and suggested multiple tests to rule out an emergency situation. My border collie also gets seizures which I told Dr. Hackett about and she told me she thought they are fainting spells due to his low heart rate, not seizures. Which I also got confirmations he definitely has seizures and nothing else like she suggested. After leaving very worried, I sought second opinions from other veterinarians. They all reassured me that my Border Collie's heart rate was completely normal for the breed and that they have seen even lower heart rates in athletic dogs like him despite his seizures. What was presented to me as potentially alarming was actually very typical. The same thing happened with my senior dog. Dr. Hackett told me her kidney and liver values were elevated and strongly pushed further testing, making it sound urgent. When I had another vet review the labs, they explained the values were only slightly elevated and extremely common in older dogs. They even told me she is far more likely to pass from old age before those numbers would ever reach liver failure levels. They also mentioned the slight elevation could simply be due to her high-protein diet. The experience left me feeling like fear was used to push unnecessary testing rather than providing balanced, knowledgeable guidance. It caused a lot of unnecessary stress and extra expense. Because of this, I would personally recommend seeking care elsewhere and getting a second opinion if you are ever told something is urgently wrong here.

I've never gotten to watch them work like this or for this length of time. The Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) is something that I've never seen before and I am so impressed. It's open concept so everyone being treated is all in the same room and they let you stay with your pet the entire time, even during surgery. They even have rooms that you can sleep in! They let you lay on the floor and hold your baby, they get on the floor to help your baby. I couldn't stay with Mei touching her or even letting her see me because of the spaz attack she has when she sees me which causes her to gasp for air, but they got me a padded bench to sit next to her chamber, close but out of sight. I watched them do a surgery on a cat, a surgery on a dog, leap tables to get to a dog who was seizing, to hold him safe while another tech skidded across the floor with meds like out of a movie, I saw them sprint across the room to stop a large dog from hurting himself, deal with sobbing pet parents (me), carry a massive pig in, x ray that massive pig, treat a ferret, treat a dog for rattlesnake bite, and all the other stuff- it was non. Stop. all with calm yet fierce professionalism and kindness and caring. It takes some special people to work in this field! Competent af. These people know what they are doing. I came flying through their door at 9am with Mei in significant breathing distress like a bat out of hell. I practically fell through the door. I thought she would die in the car on the way over there. I called to let them know I was on my way and they were ready for me when I got there. They shouted "triage!" And 4 people rushed over and immediately put Mei on oxygen and went to work troubleshooting. They put her in the oxygen chamber right away. They noticed that when she saw me she lost her shit and started gasping like crazy so they told me to hide to keep her calmer; and they were right. When I laid down on a bench and closed my eyes I awoke to the doctor putting a blanket on me and the nurse had left a pillow. The open concept allows drs and nurses to move quickly and freely and see everything and communicate things that they need. There were not curtains to block what was happening, no doors to get in the way, you see it all. I appreciated it because I like to KNOW. I want to SEE, otherwise how can you know they are doing it right? I highly, highly recommend them! Blessings on all the heir houses! Truly angels on earth. I owe them a debt I can never repay- they saved my Mei Dr Romy was our doctor and she even stayed late to make sure that Mei didn't get lost in the shuffle during shift change- and I'm talking hours late. If there was ever a vet that deserves donations and volunteers to help it's them. Donate! Volunteer! I am so grateful to them I can't recommend them enough!

We brought our cat in around 9 PM on a Sunday because she had sudden weakness, was falling over, and was clearly having trouble using her front leg and part of her body. We repeatedly told them something was seriously wrong. Instead of treating that like the emergency it obviously was, they became fixated on claiming her carrier smelled like marijuana and suggesting possible THC ingestion. That theory made no sense to us, and worse, it distracted from the actual symptoms we were there for. Their own written notes said our cat had "no apparent lameness," normal pupils, and no neurologic abnormalities. That did not reflect what we were seeing at all, and later vet visits found far more serious neurologic issues. We were also told, "yeah don't worry, there is nothing absolutely critical right now." That was completely wrong. We were sent home with reassurance that this would likely self-resolve. Because of that, there was delay before we got her properly evaluated elsewhere. We later found out she had a very serious condition affecting her brain, and vets are now telling us it may be lymphoma or a viral infection. Either way, this was never some minor "maybe she ate something weird" situation. What makes this so disturbing is not just that they were wrong. It is that they were dismissive while being wrong. They minimized obvious red flags, focused on an unlikely explanation, documented the visit in a way that downplayed what was happening, and sent us home with false reassurance when our cat needed real urgency. If your pet is falling over, weak, unable to use a leg properly, or showing neurologic symptoms, do not trust this place to take it seriously. We regret going here, and we regret trusting what we were told.

I brought my dog in because he was panting heavily and seemed restless. At that time, he was still active and able to walk and run normally. After the examination, the hospital performed X-rays, blood work, and an ultrasound, and I was charged about $1,700. Despite all of these tests, they said they could not determine what was wrong with him. Even so, they prescribed antibiotics and discharged us. When we returned home, my dog's condition became dramatically worse. He stopped eating and drinking, became extremely lethargic, and within 24 hours he could barely move and was unable to walk on his own. I called the hospital and was told this was not normal, so I brought him back immediately. However, instead of trying to investigate what might have gone wrong, the hospital insisted that I would need to pay again just for bringing my dog back . The veterinarian suggested they could prescribe painkillers if I wanted. I explained that my dog had been walking and active when I first brought him in, and that the only symptom he had was panting. After all the tests and procedures performed at this hospital, he left unable to walk. Yet the staff still could not explain what had happened and continued suggesting additional medications. The most concerning part of this experience was the veterinarian's unprofessional conduct. When I expressed that I did not think it was fair to pay for another recheck under these circumstances, her attitude immediately changed. She insisted that my dog's current condition had nothing to do with their treatment. Feeling frustrated and unheard, I decided to take my dog home and seek another opinion instead of continuing treatment there. Later, my second veterinarian requested my dog's medical report from Escondido Veterinary Emergency. I learned that the report included details of the argument I had with the hospital and quoted my words. Including personal disputes with a pet owner in a medical record is highly unprofessional. Medical reports should document only the patient's medical condition, findings, and treatment. Recording and sharing personal arguments in a professional report can unfairly influence other veterinarians reviewing the case. As of today, Escondido Veterinary Emergency has not yet sent me a copy of this report, despite having paid $1,700 for the tests and procedures. I strongly encourage other pet owners to think carefully before bringing their animals here.

Extremely disappointed and felt punished for asking about affordable care…read more My husband took our dog here for an injured leg and was quoted a very high price just for an X-ray and splint. He explained that we could not afford their pricing and that we planned to seek care elsewhere, including possibly in Mexico, where veterinary services are often more affordable. Instead of respecting his decision as a pet owner trying to do the best he could financially, this clinic reported him to the Humane Society. We were shocked and distressed. At no point did we refuse care for our dog--my husband simply declined their services due to cost and planned to get treatment elsewhere. Veterinary care is already incredibly expensive, and pet owners should not be threatened or reported for seeking alternative, affordable options. This experience felt punitive and unnecessary, and it caused a great deal of stress during an already difficult situation. I cannot recommend a clinic that responds this way when a client is transparent about financial limitations and still actively trying to obtain care for their pet.

The specialists take the time to thoroughly answer questions and never make you feel rushed. Our appointment lasted nearly two hours because we had so many questions about our dog's medical condition, and the entire team remained attentive and supportive throughout the visit. We did experience a small issue with a prescription that was sent to Costco. Since it was a Friday, it took several phone calls to get everything clarified. What truly impressed us was the level of accountability and customer service. The doctor personally called us on a Saturday to apologize for the prescription error and ensure everything had been resolved. This was our second visit, and based on the compassionate care, professionalism, and dedication of the staff, we will absolutely be returning. I highly recommend this hospital to anyone looking for exceptional veterinary care for their pet.

From the moment we arrived, the staff and Dr. Parkins treated our boy with such gentleness and respect -- and they treated us the same way. They were patient, kind, and never made us feel rushed. They gave us the space to grieve while also guiding us through every step with such care. Their kindness and thoughtfulness in the days and weeks that followed showed us that, it wasn't just a job -- they truly cared. We are so grateful to have had this team with us at the end of his life. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
