Where do I start? I didn't want to write this review because I didn't want to relive the trauma of it all but I feel I need to write this for other dog parents who are on the fence about Dr Sheahan and the team at Veterinary Eye Clinic. My fiancé and I have a 13 year old pug/labradoodle mix, Jobiie, who we consider our child. We got Jobiie very early in our relationship (we were just couple young kids in love) and it was absolutely love at first sight. All of our friends and family know, Jobiie is our pride and joy. There was nothing we wouldn't do for him. Earlier this year, Jobiie got hit really hard with different health issues and it absolutely rocked my fiancé's and my world. One of the health issues he developed was cataracts. It almost seems like it popped up out of nowhere and he lost his vision pretty fast. His vet gave us a list of ophthalmologists in our area (Irvine, CA) but they were all booked for weeks to months. I knew we were running low on time because I read after a certain point, cataracts can no longer be operated on. Desperate, I googled "veterinary dog ophthalmologists in Southern California" and the Veterinary Eye Clinic was one of the results. After calling the first few results (they didn't have an appointment soon enough), and they were able to get us a consultation appointment on Monday. Our consultation was .. A M A Z I N G !! My fiancé and I always feel too uncomfortable to ask all the necessary questions at the vets office and often leave appointments more confused. HOWEVER, this was not the case with Dr Sheahan. We felt so comfortable with her and did not hesitate if we had any questions. Dr Sheahan explained everything so thoroughly and so in depth. We booked an appointment for the pre surgery and the surgery with Dr Sheehan before the consultation was over. The surgery appointment was set right before Dr Sheehan left for vacation. Despite the sudden rupture in Jobiie's left eye the morning of surgery day, pre surgery and surgery went great. Dr Sheehan did a beautiful job. My fiancé and I breathed a breath of fresh air and we finally felt weight lift off of our shoulders. Up to this point, Dr Sheahan went above and beyond for us. The day after surgery, Jobiie wasn't doing so well. The influx of health issues he had came flooding back and we rushed him to the nearest emergency animal hospital. The hospital asked questions about Jobiie's behavior the day before. Since he was with the Veterinary Eye Clinic for his cataracts surgery the day before, we called for some information and insight. Right off the bat, they said they were sorry to hear about Jobiie and offered to have Dr Sheahan give us a call .. while she was on vacation!! Unfortunately, Dr Sheahan was in an area with very little reception and it took a while to connect with her. During that time, the doctor at the hospital said Jobiie's prognosis was very poor as he needed a blood transfusion and we should consider euthanasia. Hearing this, we were emotional wrecks. Like a beacon of light, Dr Sheahan was able to find reception and called us while we were going back and forth between getting the blood transfusions or letting Jobiie go peacefully. Dr Sheahan went even further than above and beyond. Serendipitously, she knew the emergency animal hospital Jobiie was at and knew all the doctors and owner at the hospital. She called the owner and made sure we we were in good hands. Coached us with questions we needed to asked and explained all the details the hospital doctors told us in layman's terms. Dr Sheahan spoke to us like she was a friend and told us if money wasn't an issue, we should consider going through with the blood transfusion to give Little J (Dr Sheahan's nickname for Jobiie). Because Dr Sheahan gave us the oomph we needed, we marched back into the hospital and told the hospital doctor we wanted to do the blood transfusion. She made sure to check in on us and Jobiie for the days he had to stay at the hospital and she always answered the phone when we needed advice. DID I MENTION SHE DID ALL OF THIS WHILE SHE WAS ON VACATION?! We are so glad we went with Dr Sheahan's advice because our Little J lives to see another day! Anyways, my fiancé and I always look forward to Jobiie's follow up appointments with Dr Sheahan. We will be forever grateful for her and appreciate her team deeply. If you are on the fence about VEC, don't be. My fiancé and I are convinced they are superheroes. Dr. Sheahan and her team are extremely caring, compassionate and professional. Our dog was unfortunately bitten by another dog and her eyelid had a deep laceration and there was a puncture wound above her eye as well. The incident happened late Sunday night and Dr. Sheahan squeezed us in for an appointment the next morning. Her and her team stayed several hours past their closing time to perform emergency surgery on our dog, and treated her with gentle hands amidst a stressful situation for our family. Thankfully because of the quick action of Dr. Sheahan and the team at the Veterinary Eye Clinic, our dog is on the road to making a full recovery. I wanted to take a moment to praise Dr Sheehan and the incredible staff at this Eye Clinic who are very professional and perform eye surgery at its best. My dog Mojo (Yorkie) suffered from a stye that has grown considerably large about 50% his upper eyelid. Upon first visit the staff was really friendly and informative. Dr Sheehan took her time to show me different surgeries she had performed to other dogs to explain in the best way possible how she operates. After the procedure went well and Mojo started his way to recovery, I was amazed of what an incredible job she has done. She had reconstructed the eyelid with a skin graft and stitched back together. After healing for few weeks it's almost impossible to see any scar or notice anything whatsoever. When we got there, we knew immediately we were in the right place finally. In Feb this year our lab mix was diagnosed with diabetes and we were told that she would more then likely go blind within the year. I'm so happy with the care and service we received from the staff and Doctors at VEC. I noticed my elderly dog's, Clementine, eye was pretty swollen yesterday. She was a bit off so we rushed her to her primary Vet. After some test, they referred us to VEC Alhambra (an hour drive from our home), and luckily our vet and was in communication with VEC and in the very next morning! Dr. Sheahan is a phenomenal Dog Ophthalmologist. My dog developed a corneal lesion on his eye and she was able to see him as an emergency and did the most thorough testing. She checked everything from the front to the back of his eyes and discussed the diagnosis and management of his condition. I am very thankful with the service and successful procedure we received from Veterinary Eye Clinic. My Frenchie (Oobie) had some bad allergies and dry eye that turned into an ulcer, and one of his eyes had a hole that was 99 percent penetrated. We needed emergency surgery as his eye was ready to pop, which would have cause him to have his eyeball removed. We were advised to perform a conjunctival graft to save his eye. This would save the eye (although there would be some partial vision blocking and it wouldn't look aesthetically pleasing). While faced with a difficult decision, we love our frenchie, so we chose to perform the surgery the next day. It was definitely a very emotional time for us, but thankfully Dr Sheahan and her staff at the Thousand Oaks location did a fantastic job making sure it was successful. Recovery was not easy as he had a come for a month, but I can't thank Dr Sheahan enough for saving my Oobies eye. Today, I am shocked how great his eye looks. It has continually gotten better to the point where it is difficult to tell he had the surgery. I am forever grateful for all their help. I cannot say enough praise for this place. I was referred over by my vet to see Dr. Sheahan and I had an appointment within the next few days. When we arrived with my dog, she listened to our concerns and explained what was going on with my dog Logan. She was attentive and took her time with us so we understood what was going on and our next steps of treatment. She provided us with all the information, and broke down the treatment and what it would cost. At recheck appointments, Dr. Sheahan and her staff were genuine and cared about my dog Logan. She was patient with him while giving him his exams. She was open and honest about how he was spoke and explaining our options of treatment for his left eye. My dog did have to have his eye removed and fortunately he was able to get the surgery done within a few hours as there was an available time. I brought my 9 y/o German Shepard here because of a mass that has been growing and getting bigger on her lower eyelid. We consulted with Dr Chang, who has very nice, knowledgeable, and thorough. We scheduled Reina for surgery exactly a week later under sedation to remove it. We dropped her off at 7:30am and she was ready for pickup by 12. Everything went smoothly. Reina is recovering well. The vet techs were very nice as well and gave thorough discharge instructions. The other vet, Dr Sheahan, even called the next morning to see how Reina was doing, which I really appreciated. Overall a very pleasant experience. Costly, around $3600 for everything including a 2 week recheck appt, but the surgery needed to be done before it got worse. Overall would recommend! read more

I recently brought home a 6-month-old Japanese Chin. He had a small red eye when I got him, and I took him to the vet two days after getting him to get his last shots, and a checkup and noticed his eye was worse. They gave me steroid drops which worked off and on, but never cleared up the issue. Eventually the eye closed, he was swatting at it, and there was a blue circle where the pupil is. I had seen other horrible veterinary eye doctors in the Valley when I had my last chin. I had one who had chronic eye problems and I think he could have been saved had I had a doctor that cared for him, so this problem was horrifying me because I lost my other two chins just last year. Fast forward, I had looked on Yelp for the best Eye doctor for animals and this place popped up. After four regular vet visits and his eye getting worse and worse, I reached out to this place. They gave me an appointment the very next day. They told me over the phone how much it would be. They did not ask for the money in advance which told me they cared about the animals more than the money right off the bat. I drove an hour and half in the middle of rush hour from Northridge to Alhambra. I went in and the place was so packed we couldn't find a parking space or a place to sit. I didn't care. That just told me that again, this was the place I needed to be. The vet tech came in and I thought she was the doctor because she was so thorough, knowledgeable and kind. The doctor (Dr. Jennifer Sheahan came in and looked at him, did three tests on him and told me he has a corneal ulcer and a fungus of the eye. It was deep and pretty bad. She was adamant that they needed to treat this issue aggressively or else the next step was going to be a $10,000 proposition (which I don't have). I was given 4 prescriptions in the form of three antibiotic eye drops, and one oral antibiotic. There was such warmth from her and her techs, I literally started to cry because they really cared about me and my little guy. I went back today, just four days later for a recheck. His beautiful eyes are wide open, and they said he is on his way to recovery. I don't have to take him in for three more weeks, and I couldn't be happier that he is recovering and I can see his beautiful eyes again. I am beyond grateful to VEC and Jennifer Sheahan. He is due to go back in three weeks. I will update you on his condition. GO TO VEC if you need your pet's eyes examined! read more
